Round 5 Feature Match: Brandon DePalma versus Jake Phillips
15-year-old Brandon DePalma and 20-year-old Jake Phillips are both local New Jersey Duelists Dueling against one another in this Round 5 Feature Match. DePalma is using an innovative Heraldic Beast Ninja Deck that Summons Dark Simorgh by using Ninjitsu Art of Transformation, and takes advantage of powerful Heraldic cards including Heraldry Reborn and Advanced Heraldic Art. His opponent, Jake Phillips, is using a Machine Deck that uses Rescue Rabbit with Mechanicalchaser and X-Head Cannon. It’s time to Duel!
Duel One
DePalma opened up Duel 1 with Ninja Grandmaster Hanzo, Heraldry Reborn, Bottomless Trap Hole, Heraldic Beast Aberconway, Advanced Heraldic Art, and Ninjitsu Art of Transformation. He Summoned Hanzo and used its effect to add another copy of Ninjitsu Art of Transformation from his Deck to his hand. He Set one of them along with a Bottomless Trap Hole before ending his turn
DePalma activated Ninjitsu Art of Transformation during Phillips’s Standby Phase to trade in his Ninja and Special Summon Dark Simorgh from his Deck! Phillips Summoned Machina Gearframe and used its effect to add Machina Fortress from his Deck to his hand. Next, he discarded Mechanical Chaser and Machina Fortress to Special Summon the Fortress back from the Graveyard. DePalma flipped Bottomless Trap Hole to try to banish it; but Phillips used Forbidden Lance to protect it! Next, Phillips activated Iron Call to Special Summon Mechanicalchaser from his Graveyard. He combined his Mechanicalchaser with Machina Gearframe to Summon Maestroke the Symphony Djinn and then detached an Xyz Material from Maestroke to put Dark Simorgh face-down with Maestroke’s effect. Machina Fortress attacked and destroyed Dark Simorgh and then Maestroke attacked DePalma directly.
DePalma drew Magic Cylinder next turn. He Set it along with his Aberconway and then ended his turn.
Phillips Summoned X-Head Cannon and then activated Iron Call to Special Summon Machina Gearframe from his Graveyard. He combined his Gearframe with X-Head Cannon to Summon Photon Papilloperative and then detached an Xyz Material from Photon Papilloperative to switch Aberconway into Attack Position. Fortress attacked it to try to destroy it, but DePalma used Magic Cylinder to reverse the attack! Next, Photon Papilloperative attacked and destroyed Aberconway. Finally, a direct attack from Maestroke dropped DePalma down to 3500 Life Points.
DePalma drew Heraldry Reborn next turn! He activated it to Special Summon Heraldic Beast Aberconway from his Graveyard and then attacked Maestroke. Maestroke lost an Xyz Material, and Aberconway was destroyed. Next, DePalma used another Heraldry Reborn to revive it, and Set Ninjitsu Art of Transformation.
Phillips attacked and destroyed Aberconway with Photon Papilloperative, and then direct attacks from Machina Fortress and Maestroke finished DePalma off!

Duel Two
DePalma opened up Duel 2 with Pot of Avarice, Advanced Heraldic Art, Magic Cylinder, Foolish Burial, Mirror Force, and Ninja Grandmaster Hanzo.
He activated Foolish Burial to send Heraldic Beast Leo from his Deck to his Graveyard and activated Leo’s effect to add Heraldic Beast Aberconway from his Deck to his hand. He Summoned Hanzo next, and used its effect to add Ninjitsu Art of Transformation from his Deck to his hand. DePalma Set Ninjitsu Art of Transformation and Mirror Force before ending his turn.
Phillips drew a card and then DePalma activated his Ninjitsu Art of Transformation to trade in his Hanzo for a Dark Simorgh! DePalma Summoned Rescue Rabbit and then banished it to Special Summon 2 copies of Mechanicalchaser from his Deck. He attacked Dark Simorgh with a Mechanicalchaser, signaling that he had a Forbidden Lance in his hand, and DePalma flipped Mirror Force to destroy both copies of Mechanicalchaser.
DePalma drew Bottomless Trap Hole and then Summoned Aberconway. He attacked directly with Dark Simorgh and Aberconway to drop Phillips down to 3500 Life Points. DePalma Set Bottomless Trap Hole and Magic Cylinder before ending his turn.
Phillips Summoned Machina Gearframe and used its effect to add Machina Fortress to his hand. He sent Mechanicalchaser and Machina Fortress from his hand to his Graveyard to Special Summon the Fortress back to the field, and when DePalma used Bottomless Trap Hole to try to banish it, Phillips used Forbidden Lance to protect it! Next, Phillips activated Monster Reborn to Special Summon Mechanicalchaser from his Graveyard. Mechanical Chaser attacked Aberconway, and DePalma used Magic Cylinder to negate the attack and drop Phillips down to 1650 Life Points! Next, Gearframe attacked Dark Simorgh and Phillips activated Limiter Removal to double the ATK of his Machines and destroy the Simorgh in battle! Next, Machina Fortress attacked Aberconway. Unaffected by Limiter Removal due to Lance, it only had 1700 ATK and was destroyed in battle. When it went to the Graveyard, it destroyed Aberconway with its effect. Phillips Set a card to his back row and then combined his Mechanicalchaser with Machina Gearframe to Summon Gear Gigant X. He detached an Xyz Material from Gear Gigant X to add Machina Gearframe to his hand with its effect before ending his turn.
DePalma activated Advanced Heraldry Art to Special Summon Heraldic Beast Leo and Heraldic Beast Aberconway from his Graveyard and combined them to Xyz Summon Diamond Dire Wolf! He used his Diamond Dire Wolf’s effect to have it destroy itself along with Gear Gigant X. Heraldic Beast Leo went to the Graveyard when Diamond Dire Wolf went down, triggering its effect and allowing DePalma to add Heraldic Beast Basilisk from his Deck to his hand. Phillips activated Mind Crush to force DePalma to discard the Basilisk, but it was all over moments later! DePalma activated Heraldry Reborn to Special Summon Heraldic Beast Leo from his Graveyard and attacked with it to win the Duel!

Duel Three
Phillips started off Duel 3 by Summoning Rescue Rabbit. He banished it to Special Summon 2 copies of Mechanicalchaser from his Deck and then combined both Mechanicalchasers to Xyz Summon Gear Gigant X. He detached an Xyz Material from Gear Gigant X to add Machina Gearframe from his Deck to his hand and then Set 2 cards to his back row.
DePalma opened up with Heraldic Beast Basilisk, Heraldic Beast Eale, Torrential Tribute, Monster Reborn, Magic Cylinder, and Heraldic Beast Aberconway.
He Set his Basilisk along with both Trap Cards before ending his turn.
Phillips detached an Xyz Material from Gear Gigant X to add Tin Goldfish from his Deck to his hand and then Normal Summoned his Goldfish. He used its effect to Special Summon X-Head Cannon and then combined X-Head Cannon with Tin Goldfish to Xyz Summon Maestroke the Symphony Djinn. Gear Gigant X attacked DePalma’s face-down monster, and DePalma activated Magic Cylinder to negate the attack and deal 2300 points of damage to Phillips. Next, Maestroke attacked and destroyed Basilisk, and Basilisk took down one of Maestroke’s Xyz Materials.
DePalma drew Mirror Force next turn. He activated Monster Reborn to Special Summon Basilisk from his Graveyard and then Normal Summoned Heraldic Beast Eale. He combined his Eale with his Basilisk to Xyz Summon Number 8: Heraldic King Genom-Heritage!
He used its effect to try to copy Maestroke’s effect and strip Maestroke of its power; but Phillips used Breakthrough Skill to negate Heraldic King’s effect!
Phillips used Maestroke’s effect to put Number 8: Heraldic King Genom-Heritage face-down and then attacked it with Gear Gigant X. DePalma used Mirror Force and Phillips Chained Forbidden Lance to protect Gear Gigant X. Maestroke was destroyed, and then Gear Gigant X continued its attack against Number 8: Heraldic King Genom-Heritage, costing Phillips 300 Life Points. In Main Phase 2, Phillips Summoned Machina Gearframe and used its effect to add Machina Fortress to his hand. He discarded Fortress and X-Head Cannon to Special Summon Fortress back to the field. Next, he equipped his Fortress with Gearframe to protect it and Set a card to his back row.
DePalma used the effect of Number 8: Heraldic King Genom-Heritage to copy Gear Gigant X next turn, and then detached an Xyz Material from Number 8: Heraldic King Genom-Heritage to imitate Gear Gigant X’s effect and add Meklord Emperor Wisel from his Deck to his hand!
He activated Heraldry Reborn to Special Summon Basilisk from his Graveyard and then Normal Summoned Heraldic Beast Aberconway. He combined Aberconway and Basilisk to Xyz Summon Maestroke the Symphony Djinn and then detached an Xyz Material from Maestroke to put Fortress face-down. DePalma lost the Wisel in his hand as a result of Machina Fortress’s effect. Maestroke attacked Fortress, and Phillips flipped Mirror Force to take down an Xyz Material from Maestroke and destroy Number 8: Heraldic King Genom-Heritage. Next, Maestroke destroyed Machina Fortress in battle, and Fortress destroyed Maestroke with its effect. DePalma Set Torrential Tribute before passing his turn.
Phillips discarded Machina Cannon to Special Summon Machina Fortress, but DePalma flipped Torrential Tribute to clear the field. Phillips Normal Summoned Mechanicalchaser next and attacked directly to drop DePalma down to 6150 Life Points. He Set a card to his back row before passing.

Phillips drew Tour Guide From the Underworld and Summoned it, activating its effect to Special Summon another Tour Guide from his Deck! He combined both Tour Guides to Xyz Summon Leviair the Sea Dragon and then used Leviair’s effect to Special Summon Rescue Rabbit. Next, he combined his Rabbit with his Mechanicalchaser to Summon Photon Papilloperative! He detached an Xyz Material from it to switch DePalma’s face-down Basilisk into Attack Position, and then used Breakthrough Skill to negate its effect. He attacked over Basilisk with Photon Papilloperative and attacked directly with Leviair the Sea Dragon.
DePalma drew Heraldry Reborn next turn! He activated it to Special Summon Heraldic Beast Aberconway in Attack Position.
Phillips attacked Aberconway with Photon Papilloperative to destroy it and then attacked directly with Leviair to drop DePalma down to 650 Life Points.
DePalma drew Heraldic Beast Leo and Set it, but it was all over on Phillips’s next turn! Phillips detached an Xyz Material from Photon Papilloperative to switch Leo into Attack Position and reduce its ATK, and then Photon Papilloperative attacked over Leo to end the Duel!
