13-year-old Matthew Wilkinson from Seattle, Washington was the winner of the World Championship Qualifier Dragon Duel in 2011. Now he’s back, hoping to repeat his victory this year with the very same Deck: Elemental HEROs. But his 13-year-old opponent Shivum Dang from Overland Park, Kansas won’t make that easy for him. Dang’s Deck contains the most powerful monster in the entire Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME: Exodia the Forbidden One! If Wilkinson hopes to advance in the tournament with a 1-0 record, he’ll need to defeat Dang before Dang can assemble all 5 pieces of Exodia.

Duel One

Wilkinson opened up Duel 1 with Bottomless Trap Hole, E – Emergency Call, Forbidden Lance, Solemn Judgment, Gemini Spark, and Compulsory Evacuation Device. He activated E – Emergency Call to add Elemental HERO Stratos to his hand and then Summoned it, activating its effect to grab Elemental HERO Neos Alius from his Deck.

Dang Set 4 cards to his back row and then passed his turn.

Wilkinson drew Dark Hole and then Normal Summoned Elemental HERO Neos Alius. He attacked directly with Stratos and Neos Alius to drop Dang down to 4300 Life Points and then Set Gemini Spark before ending his turn.

Dang Set a card and passed his turn. Wilkinson activated Gemini Spark in Dang’s End Phase, to Tribute Neos Alius and destroy Dang’s newly Set Accumulated Fortune.

Wilkinson Summoned Neos Alius next turn, and Dang activated Waboku. He Chained Jar of Greed and Reckless Greed to draw 3 cards.

Dang skipped his Draw Phase due to the effect of Reckless Greed and then Set 2 cards to his back row.

Wilkinson drew Heavy Storm!

He activated Heavy Storm to try to destroy every Spell and Trap Card on the field. Dang Chained Threatening Roar; but Wilkinson gave up 4000 Life Points and negated it with Solemn Judgment! All Spell and Trap Cards on the field were destroyed! Wilkinson attacked directly with Neos Alius and Stratos to drop Dang down to 700 Life Points. In his second Main Phase, Wilkinson combined his Neos Alius with Stratos to Xyz Summon Gagaga Cowboy in Defense Position, activating its effect to inflict the 800 points of damage that Wilkinson needed to seal the Duel.

Duel Two

Dang Set 2 cards to his back row and Summoned Cardcar D. He activated its effect to draw 2 cards before entering his End Phase.

Wilkinson opened up with Elemental HERO Bubbleman, Bottomless Trap Hole, Elemental HERO Stratos, Elemental HERO Neos Alius, Forbidden Lance, and Hero Blast. He Summoned Elemental HERO Neos Alius and attacked directly, dropping Dang down to 6100 Life Points. Wilkinson Set Hero Blast, Bottomless Trap Hole, and Forbidden Lance before ending his turn.

Dang Set 2 to his back row and passed.

Wilkinson Summoned Elemental HERO Stratos and then activated its effect to add Elemental HERO Neos Alius from his Deck to his hand.

He attacked with Stratos first, and Dang Special Summoned Battle Fader from his hand to negate the attack and end the Battle Phase.

Dang Set a card to his back row and passed. Wilkinson activated Gemini Spark to Tribute his Neos Alius, destroy the newly Set Jar of Greed, and draw a card in Dang’s End Phase.

Wilkinson Summoned Elemental HERO Neos Alius and then Set Miracle Fusion and Monster Reborn. He Special Summoned Elemental HERO Bubbleman from his hand next. He combined Bubbleman with Stratos and Neos Alius to Xyz Summon Number 16: Shock Master, and activated its effect to shut down all Trap Cards. Dang Chained Legacy of Yata-Garasu, followed by Mystical Space Typhoon (targeting Wilkinson’s face-down Miracle Fusion), followed by Waboku and Accumulated Fortune. Miracle Fusion was destroyed, and Wilkinson drew a total of 3 cards before the Chain resolved. Wilkinson activated Monster Reborn next, targeting the Stratos in his Graveyard. He Special Summoned Stratos to the field and activated Stratos’s effect to add Elemental HERO Bubbleman to his hand.

Dang activated Pot of Duality, revealing Cardcar D, One Day of Peace, and Upstart Goblin from the top of his Deck. He added Cardcar D to his hand and then Set 3 cards to his back row. Next, he Summoned Cardcar D and activated its effect to draw 2 cards before ending his turn.

Wilkinson drew Compulsory Evacuation Device. He activated Shock Master’s effect again, choosing Traps, and Dang Chained Jar of Greed, followed by Just Desserts. Wilkinson Chained Hero Blast. Wilkinson returned Elemental HERO Neos Alius from his Graveyard to his hand and destroyed Battle Fader; Dang drew a card and dealt 1000 points of damage to Wilkinson, dropping him down to 7000 Life Points. Wilkinson Summoned Elemental HERO Neos Alius next, and then Special Summoned Elemental HERO Bubbleman. He attacked with Bubbleman, and Dang Special Summoned Battle Fader from his hand to block the attack and end the Battle Phase.

Dang drew a card and then passed his turn.

Wilkinson combined Elemental HERO Bubbleman with Elemental HERO Neos Alius to Summon Blade Armor Ninja then used his Shock Master’s effect by detaching its last Xyz Material to stop all monster effects for the turn. Wilkinson Summoned Kycoo the Ghost Destroyer next, and Dang used Threatening Roar to stop Wilkinson’s attacks.

Dang activated Heavy Storm. Wilkinson Chained Compulsory Evacuation Device to return Elemental HERO Neos Alius to his hand, and then Wilkinson’s Bottomless Trap Hole and Forbidden Lance were destroyed by the Storm. Next, Dang activated Reload. He sent 5 cards from his hand back into his Deck to draw 5 new cards.

Dang activated Upstart Goblin next, bringing Wilkinson back up to 8000 Life Points and allowing Dang to draw a card. Dang Set 2 cards to his back row before ending his turn.

Wilkinson drew Thunder King Rai-Oh and Summoned it to the field. Dang activated Threatening Roar to stop Wilkinson from attacking.

Dang activated Upstart Goblin to draw a card, giving Wilkinson another 1000 Life Points. He activated Reckless Greed next, drawing 2 cards and giving up his next 2 Draw Phases. Dang activated Reload next, sending his hand back into his Deck to draw 5 new cards. He Set a card to his back row and then Summoned Cardcar D to Tribute it and draw 2 cards before ending his turn.

Wilkinson drew Elemental HERO Neos Alius and then attacked Battle Fader with Kycoo to destroy it. Next, Thunder King Rai-Oh attacked; but Dang used Swift Scarecrow to stop the attack and end the Battle Phase. In Wilkinson’s End Phase, Dang activated another Reckless Greed to draw 2 cards.

Dang skipped his Draw Phase and then Set 2 cards and passed.

Wilkinson attacked directly with Kycoo, and Dang activated Legacy of Yata-Garasu, followed by Reckless Greed; but Dang’s newly drawn cards were no help! Direct attacks from Kycoo, Rai-Oh, Blade Armor Ninja, and Shock Master wiped out Dang’s 6100 Life Points!
