12-year-old Stephen Meagher from Michigan and 13-year-old Fletcher Phillips from Missouri are both currently 4-2 in the tournament, and are now facing off against one another in this final Swiss Round. Watt Deck is Stephen Meagher playing, one might ask? Watts, of course! Fletcher Phillips is using Dragon Rulers. Each Duelist’s life in the tournament is on the line here, as only the victor will have the chance of advancing to the Top 32!

Duel One

Phillips started off Duel 1 by activating Gold Sarcophagus to banish Tidal, Dragon Ruler of Waterfalls from his Deck, and used Tidal’s effect to add Stream, Dragon Ruler of Droplets from his Deck to his hand. Next, he discarded Burner, Dragon Ruler of Sparks and Lightning, Dragon Ruler of Drafts to activate Burner’s effect, and Meagher Chained Maxx “C”. Phillips Special Summoned Blaster from his Deck, and Meagher drew a card thanks to the effect of Maxx “C”. Next, Phillips discarded Stream, Dragon Ruler of Droplets and Burner to Special Summon Tidal from his Deck, allowing Meagher to draw another card. Next, Phillips detached an Xyz Material from Dracossack to Special Summon 2 Dracossack Tokens to the field, and Meagher drew another card thanks to Maxx “C”.

Stephen Meagher started off his first turn with Thunder Sea Horse, 2 copies of Pot of Duality, Compulsory Evacuation Device, Monster Reborn, Wattpheasant, Mirror Force, Bottomless Trap Hole, and Wattgiraffe. He discarded Thunder Sea Horse to add 2 more copies of Thunder Sea Horse from his Deck to his hand and then activated Pot of Duality. He revealed Solemn Warning, Wattgiraffe, and Dark Hole from the top of his Deck, and added the Dark Hole to his hand before shuffling the other 2 cards back into his Deck. Next, he Summoned Wattgiraffe and attacked directly with it, dropping Phillips down to 6800 Life Points. In Main Phase 2, Meagher Set Mirror Force, Bottomless Trap Hole, and Compulsory Evacuation Device.

Phillips drew a card and then activated Heavy Storm! Meagher Chained Compulsory Evacuation Device to return Dracossack to Phillips’s Extra Deck, but Meagher’s Bottomless Trap Hole and Mirror Force were destroyed by the Storm. Next, Phillips banished Burner and Lightning to Special Summon Blaster from his Graveyard. Next, he banished Burner and Stream from his Graveyard to Special Summon Tidal. He attacked Wattgiraffe with Tidal to destroy it and drop Meagher down to 6600 Life Points, and then attacked directly with Blaster to drop Meagher down to 3800 Life Points. In Main Phase 2, Phillips combined his Dragons to Xyz Summon Mecha Phantom Beast Dracossack and then ended his turn.

Meagher drew Fiendish Chain and then activated Dark Hole to destroy both Mecha Phantom Beast Tokens. Next, he discarded Thunder Sea Horse to add 2 copies of Wattcobra from his Deck to his hand. He Summoned Wattpheasant next, and tried to attack directly with it; but Phillips discarded Swift Scarecrow to stop the attack! In Main Phase 2, Meagher activated Pot of Duality, revealing Solemn Warning, Fiendish Chain, and Wattpheasant from the top of his Deck. He added Solemn Warning to his hand and shuffled the other 2 cards back into his Deck. Meagher Set Fiendish Chain and Solemn Warning before ending his turn.

Phillips drew a card and then added Tidal to his hand thanks to Gold Sarcophagus. He activated another Gold Sarcophagus next, and banished Redox, Dragon Ruler of Boulders from his Deck with its effect. He added Reactan to his hand with the effect of his banished Redox. Next, Phillips discarded Reactan and Tidal to Special Summon Redox from his Deck. He detached an Xyz Material from Dracossack to activate its effect; but Meagher flipped Fiendish Chain to negate its effect. Next, Phillips banished Reactan and Tidal to Special Summon Blaster from his Graveyard, and used Tidal’s effect to add Stream from his Deck to his hand. Phillips attacked Wattpheasant with Blaster to destroy it, and Meagher dropped down to 2000 Life Points. In Main Phase 2, Phillips combined his 2 Dragons to Xyz Summon another Mecha Phantom Beast Dracossack. He detached an Xyz Material from it to Special Summon 2 Mecha Phantom Beast Tokens to the field and then ended his turn.

Meagher drew Starlight Road and then discarded Thunder Sea Horse to add 2 copies of Wattgiraffe from his Deck to his hand. Next, he Summoned Wattcobra and attacked directly with it, dropping Phillips down to 5800 Life Points. He added another Wattcobra to his hand with its effect. Meagher Set Starlight Road before ending his turn.

Phillips attacked Wattcobra with Dracossack to destroy it, dropping Meagher down to 400 Life Points.

Meagher drew another Fiendish Chain next turn. He activated Monster Reborn to target the Wattpheasant in his Graveyard, and Phillips Chained Maxx “C” to draw a card when it was Summoned. Next, Meagher Summoned Wattgiraffe. He tried to attack directly, but Phillips discarded Swift Scarecrow to stop the attack. Meagher Set Fiendish Chain before ending his turn.

Phillips added Redox to his hand thanks to the effect of Gold Sarcophagus and then tried attacking with Dracossack; but Meagher flipped Fiendish Chain to stop it in its tracks!

Meagher drew Messenger of Peace next turn! He Summoned Wattgiraffe and then attacked directly with both Wattgiraffes and the Wattpheasant. He used his Wattpheasant’s effect to banish a Mecha Phantom Beast Token from the Duel. In Main Phase 2, he activated Messenger of Peace.

Phillips activated Monster Reborn to Special Summon Wattcobra from Meagher’s Graveyard and then attacked directly with it to wipe out Meagher’s last 400 Life Points!

Meagher establishes control with his Watt Deck in Duel 1 after losing a lot of Life Points early on, but Phillips is able to use Monster Reborn to Special Summon Wattcobra from Meagher’s Graveyard and beat him with his own card! Stephen Meagher will be going first in Duel 2!

Duel Two

Meagher opened up Duel 2 with Thunder Sea Horse, Honest, Wattgiraffe, Spirit Reaper, Fiendish Chain, and Soul Drain. He discarded a Thunder Sea Horse to grab 2 more Thunder Sea Horses from his Deck. He Set Soul Drain, Fiendish Chain, and Spirit Reaper before ending his turn.

Phillips activated Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy Meagher’s face-down Soul Drain and then discarded Stream and Tidal to Special Summon Tidal to Special Summon Tidal from his Deck. He Summoned Effect Veiler next, and Tuned it with Tidal to Synchro Summon Colossal Fighter. Next, he attacked Meagher’s face-down Spirit Reaper with Colossal Fighter. Spirit Reaper withstood the attack, and Phillips ended his turn.

Meagher drew Torrential Tribute. He discarded another Thunder Sea Horse next turn and added 2 copies of Wattcobra to his hand. Next, he Summoned Wattcobra and attacked directly with Wattcobra, dealing 1000 points of damage to Phillips. Meagher added another Wattcobra to his hand with his attacking Wattcobra’s effect. Meagher Set Torrential Tribute before ending his turn.

Phillips Summoned Psi-Blocker and activated its effect to name Thunder Sea Horse. Next, he attacked Wattcobra with Colossal Fighter; but Meagher flipped Fiendish Chain to block the attack. Phillips Set a card to his back row before ending his turn.

Meagher drew Imperial Iron Wall and then Summoned Wattgiraffe. Phillips flipped Breakthrough Skill to negate Wattcobra’s effect, and then Meagher attacked directly with Wattgiraffe to drop Phillips down to 5800 Life Points. Meagher Set Imperial Iron Wall before ending his turn.

Phillips banished Breakthrough Skill from his Graveyard to target Meagher’s Spirit Reaper and negate its effect.

Next, Phillips revealed Blaster from his hand and banished 2 copies of Tidal from his Graveyard to Special Summon Blaster. Phillips flipped Imperial Iron Wall. Phillips added Stream from his Deck with Tidal’s effect. Psi-Blocker attacked and destroyed Spirit Reaper and Blaster attacked Wattgiraffe; but Meagher discarded Honest from his hand to boost his Wattgiraffe’s ATK and win the battle.

Meagher drew Messenger of Peace next turn. He discarded Thunder Sea Horse from his hand to add 2 copies of Wattgiraffe from his Deck to his hand and then Normal Summoned one of them. He attacked directly with both copies of Wattgiraffe to drop Phillips down to 2200 Life Points. In Main Phase 2, he combined both Wattgiraffes to Xyz Summon Number 50: Blackship of Corn, and then used its effect to send Psi-Blocker to the Graveyard and inflict 1000 points of damage to Phillips. Finally, Meagher activated Messenger of Peace before ending his turn.

Phillips Set a monster and passed.

Meagher paid 100 Life Points in his Standby Phase to keep Messenger of Peace on the field and then Normal Summoned Wattgiraffe. He attacked directly, wiping out Phillips’s last 1200 Life Points.

Duel Three

Phillips started off Duel 3 by Normal Summoning Reactan, Dragon Ruler of Pebbles and Setting 4 cards to his back row.

Meagher opened up Duel 3 with Pot of Duality, Spirit Reaper, Compulsory Evacuation Device, Imperial Iron Wall, Recycling Batteries, and Magic Cylinder. After drawing his card for the turn, Phillips flipped Royal Decree. Next, Meagher activated Pot of Duality to reveal Messenger of Peace, Mind Drain, and Mirror Force from the top of his Deck, and added the Mind Drain to his hand. He Set Spirit Reaper along with 3 Trap Cards next. In his End Phase, Phillips flipped 2 copies of Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy Meagher’s face-down Mind Drain and Magic Cylinder.

Phillips attacked Meagher’s face-down Spirit Reaper, flipping it face-up.

Meagher drew a card and Set a back row.

Phillips passed.

Meagher Summoned Wattcobra and tried to attack directly with it; but Phillips discarded Swift Scarecrow to stop the attack.

Phillips activated Heavy Storm to destroy all back rows and then attacked Wattcobra with Reactan to destroy it. In Main Phase 2, Meagher activated Monster Reborn to Special Summon Wattcobra from Meagher’s Graveyard.

Phillips attacked directly with Wattcobra to drop Meagher down to 6200 Life Points and then ended his turn.

Meagher discarded Thunder Sea Horse to add 2 copies of Wattgiraffe from his Deck to his hand. He Summoned it and then attacked Wattcobra to destroy it in battle and deal 200 points of damage to Phillips.

Phillips attacked Wattgiraffe with Reactan to destroy it.

Meagher drew Torrential Tribute. He discarded Thunder Sea Horse to add 2 copies of Wattcobra from his Deck to his hand and then activated Recycling Batteries to add Wattgiraffe and Wattcobra from his Graveyard to his hand. He Set Torrential Tribute and then ended his turn.

Phillips Set a card to his back row and passed.

Meagher drew Mirror Force and then time in the round was called! He Summoned the Wattgiraffe and Phillips flipped Breakthrough Skill to negate its effect. He Set Mirror Force before ending his turn.

Phillips attacked Wattgiraffe with Reactan and Meagher flipped Mirror Force to destroy it. Phillips tried to Summoned Tidal by banishing 2 Dragons next, but Meagher flipped Torrential Tribute to clear the field!

Meagher activated Pot of Duality to add Messenger of Peace to his hand and then Normal Summoned Wattgiraffe. He attacked directly to drop Phillips down to 6600 Life Points and then ended his turn.

Phillips activated Gold Sarcophagus to banish Tempest, Dragon Ruler of Storms from his Deck, and used its effect to add Lightning to his hand.

Meagher paid 100 Life Points with Messenger of Peace and then Summoned Wattcobra to the field. He attacked directly with Wattgiraffe and Wattcobra, dropping Phillips down to 4400 Life Points. In Main Phase 2, Meagher Xyz Summoned Gagaga Cowboy in Defense Position and detached an Xyz Material to deal 800 points of damage to Phillips.

Phillips offered the handshake as soon as he started his next turn. He had only Obelisk the Tormentor, Super Rejuvenation, Breakthrough Skill, and Lightning in his hand. Down in the Duel, 5700 Life Points to 3600 Life Points, he saw no way out.
