Randy Nguyen from Texas and Robert Boyajian from California are both undefeated in the tournament so far. Now, they’re Dueling against one another for the opportunity to secure that undefeated record going into Day 2 of the tournament. Nguyen is using a Prophecy Deck, and Boyajian is using Dragon Rulers. It’s time to Duel!

Duel One

Nguyen opened up with Spellbook of Power, The Grand Spellbook Tower, Solemn Warning, Spellbook Magician of Prophecy, Spellbook Library of the Crescent, and Spellbook Star Hall.

He activated Spellbook Library of the Crescent to search for Spellbook of Secrets, Spellbook of Judgment, and Spellbook of the Master, and randomly added the Spellbook of Judgment to his hand. Next, he Normal Summoned Spellbook Magician of Prophecy; but when he activated its effect, he lost out to Boyajian’s Effect Veiler. Nguyen activated Spellbook of Judgment next, and then activated Spellbook Star Hall. He activated The Grand Spellbook Tower afterwards, adding a Spell Counter to Star Hall. He activated Spellbook of Power next, adding another counter to the Spellbook Star Hall, and then searched his Deck for Spellbook of Secrets, Spellbook of Fate, and Spellbook of the Master to add to his hand with the effect of Spellbook of Judgment in his End Phase. Next, he Special Summoned Jowgen the Spiritualist from his Deck with the effect of Spellbook of Judgment. He Set Solemn Warning before ending his turn.

Boyajian tried to Normal Summon Reactan, Dragon Ruler of Pebbles but lost out to Nguyen’s Solemn Warning. He passed his turn without making another play.

Nguyen drew Mirror Force next turn. He activated his Tower’s effect to put Spellbook of Judgment on the bottom of his Deck and draw an extra card during his Standby Phase. Then he activated Spellbook of Secrets to add Spellbook Magician of Prophecy from his Deck to his hand, and added a Spell Counter to his Star Hall. He Summoned the Magician and then activated its effect to add another Spellbook Star Hall from his Deck to his hand. Next, he activated the Star Hall, adding another Spell Counter to his first Star Hall. Subsequently, he activated Spellbook of the Master, copying the effect of Spellbook of Secrets, and adding a Spell Counter to each Star Hall. He added Spellbook of Wisdom to his hand and then switched Jowgen into Attack Position. He attacked directly with 2 Magicians, each with 1100 ATK, and with Jowgen, who had 800 ATK. Nguyen Set Mirror Force, Spellbook of Fate, and Spellbook of Wisdom before ending his turn.

Boyajian Set a monster and passed his turn.

Nguyen drew Spellbook of Life and then used his Tower’s effect to put Spellbook of Power on the bottom of his Deck and draw another Spellbook of Power. He flipped Spellbook of Fate and banished 2 Spellbooks from his Graveyard to putt his Magician face-down, adding a Spell Counter to each Star Hall in the process (for a total of 8 counters). He Flip Summoned his Magician and tried activating its effect, but he lost out on its effect to Boyajian’s Effect Veiler. Next, Nguyen activated Spellbook of Secrets, adding 2 more Spell Counters to his Star Halls and adding Spellbook of Judgment from his Deck to his hand. He activated the Spellbook of Judgment and added 2 more Counters to his Star Halls. Next, he activated Spellbook of Power, adding 1000 to Jowgen and adding 2 more Spell Counters to each Star Hall. Jowgen attacked and destroyed Boyajian’s face-down Maxx “C”, allowing Nguyen to add another Spellbook of Power from his Deck to his hand. Boyajian immediately conceded.

Duel Two

Robert Boyajian started off Duel 2 by activating Sacred Sword of Seven Stars. He banished Tidal, Dragon Ruler of Waterfalls from his hand to draw 2 cards, and then used Tidal’s effect to add Stream, Dragon Ruler of Droplets from his Deck to his hand. Next, he activated Gold Sarcophagus to banish Redox, Dragon Ruler of Boulders from his Deck. He used its effect to add Reactan, Dragon Ruler of Pebbles from his Deck to his hand. Next, Boyajian discarded Stream, Dragon Ruler of Droplets and Tempest, Dragon Ruler of Storms to Special Summon Tidal from his Deck. He activated another Gold Sarcophagus next, banishing Blaster, Dragon Ruler of Infernos from his Deck. He used Blaster’s effect to add another Blaster from his Deck to his hand. Next, Boyajian discarded Reactan and Blaster to Special Summon Redox, Dragon Ruler of Boulders from his Deck. He combined Redox with Tidal to Xyz Summon Mecha Phantom Beast Dracossack and then detached an Xyz Material from Dracossack to Special Summon 2 Mecha Phantom Beast Tokens in Defense Position. Boyajian Set 2 cards to his back row before ending his turn.

Nguyen opened up with Spellbook of Judgment, Spellbook of Wisdom, 3 copies of Gozen Match, and Spellbook of Judgment. He Set all 3 copies of Gozen Match and then ended his turn. Boyajian flipped DNA Surgery in Nguyen’s End Phase, naming Dragons.

Boyajian Tributed a Mecha Phantom Beast Token to destroy a face-down Gozen Match with Dracossack’s effect and then banished Tidal and Tempest from his Graveyard to Special Summon Blaster from his Graveyard. Nguyen flipped Gozen Match, and when Boyajian Chained Mystical Space Typhoon, Nguyen flipped his last Gozen Match. Boyajian gave up his Blaster, and then added Steam and Tempest to his hand with the effects of his banished Dragon Rulers. Boyajian detached an Xyz Material from Mecha Phantom Beast Dracossack next, in order to Special Summon 2 Tokens, and then Tributed both Tokens to Summon Tempest. Tempest attacked directly, dropping Nguyen down to 5600 Life Points.

Nguyen drew a card and then instantly conceded, realizing he had no way out.

Robert Boyajian draws a much better hand in Duel 2 than in Duel 1, and manages to take a quick victory! Randy Nguyen will be going first in Duel 3!

Duel Three

Nguyen opened up Duel 3 with Kycoo the Ghost Destroyer, Mind Drain, Solemn Warning, Spellbook of Judgment, Spellbook of Fate, and Book of Moon.

He Summoned Kycoo the Ghost Destroyer and then Set Solemn Warning and Mind Drain.

Boyajian drew a card and then Nguyen gave up 1000 Life Points to activate Mind Drain.

Boyajian activated Sacred Sword of Seven Stars next, banishing Redox from his hand. He drew 2 cards and then added another Redox from his Deck to his hand with his banished Redox’s effect. Next, Boyajian activated Gold Sarcophagus to banish Blaster, Dragon Ruler of Infernos from his Deck. He activated its effect to add another Blaster from his Deck to his hand. Next, he Normal Summoned Reactan; but Nguyen flipped Solemn Warning and gave up 2000 Life Points to negate its Summon. Boyajian Set 2 cards to his back row before ending his turn.

Nguyen drew Gozen Match. He attacked directly with Kycoo to drop Boyajian down to 6200 Life Points and then banished Reactan from his Graveyard. Nguyen Set Book of Moon and Gozen Match before ending his turn.

Boyajian flipped Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy Mind Drain and then activated his in-hand Blaster’s effect to discard it along with Burner and destroy Kycoo. Next, he activated Gold Sarcophagus to banish Tidal from his Deck. He activated Tidal’s effect to add Stream, Dragon Ruler of Droplets from his Deck to his hand. He discarded Stream and Redox to Special Summon Tidal from his Deck, and then banished Burner and Stream to activate Redox’s effect and try to Summon it; but Nguyen Chained Gozen Match to the activation of Redox’s effect.

Nguyen drew Mystical Space Typhoon next turn. He ended his turn, and Boyajian returned Tidal to his hand.

Boyajian drew a card and then added Blaster to his hand in his Standby Phase thanks to the effect of Gold Sarcophagus. He banished Blaster and Redox from his Graveyard to Special Summon a Tidal from his hand, and then used the effects of Redox and Blaster to add Burner and Redox from his Deck to his hand. Boyajian attacked directly with Tidal to drop Nguyen down to 2400 Life Points.

Nguyen drew Spellbook of Secrets next turn. He activated Spellbook of Judgment and then used Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy Boyajian’s face-down Eradicator Epidemic Virus. Next, he activated Spellbook of Secrets to add Spellbook Magician of Prophecy from his Deck to his hand. He Summoned the Magician to the field and used its effect to add Spellbook of the Master to his hand. Next, he activated it to copy the effect of Spellbook of Secrets, and added Spellbook of Wisdom to his hand. He activated Spellbook of Fate next, and banished 2 Spellbooks from his Graveyard to put his Spellbook Magician of Prophecy face-down. He Set Spellbook of Wisdom and then entered his End Phase. He added Spellbook Library of the Crescent, Spellbook of Secrets, Spellbook of Eternity, and Spellbook of the Master to his hand with the effect of Spellbook of Judgment, and then Special Summoned Jowgen the Spiritualist to the field.

Boyajian added Tidal to his hand with the effect of the Gold Sarcophagus he activated 2 turns earlier. He activated Dark Hole, and Nguyen Chained Spellbook of Wisdom to protect his Jowgen. Next, Boyajian used his Blaster’s effect to discard it along with Burner to destroy Jowgen. Next, he activated Card Destruction to draw a new hand. After activating Heavy Storm, Nguyen conceded, realizing he would be unable to survive the turn with only 2400 Life Points remaining.
