New York’s Hansel Aguero was the champion of the North American WCQ in 2011, and is currently 7-1 in this year’s WCQ with his Dragon Ruler Deck. Now he’s paired against Oregon Duelist Alexander Thomas and his Madolche Deck in this Round 9 Feature Match! With 3 more rounds remaining in the Swiss portion of this weekend’s tournament, both Duelists will be Dueling their hardest to earn this victory in order to increase their chances of making the Top 64 cut.

Duel One

Thomas opened up Duel 1 with Madolche Hootcake, Madolchepalooza, Madolche Messengelato, Maxx “C”, Book of Moon, and Madolche Ticket.

He Summoned Madolche Messengelato and then activated Madolche Ticket. Next, he Set Madolchepalooza and ended his turn.

Aguero activated Sacred Sword of Seven Stars by banishing Tidal, Dragon Ruler of Waterfalls from his hand. He drew 2 cards and then searched his Deck for another copy of Tidal to add to his hand with his banished Tidal. Aguero Set 2 cards to his back row before passing.

Thomas drew another Maxx “C” next turn. He attacked directly with Messengelato to drop Aguero down to 6400 Life Points. Thomas Set Book of Moon before passing his turn.

Aguero drew a card and passed.

Thomas drew Madolche Magileine and Summoned it. He activated its effect, but lost out to Aguero’s Effect Veiler. Next, he attacked directly with Magileine and Messengelato to drop Aguero down to 3400 Life Points.

Aguero activated Heavy Storm, and Thomas Chained Book of Moon to put Magileine face-down. All other Spell and Trap Cards on the field were destroyed, including Aguero’s own face-down Book of Moon and Lightning Vortex. Next, Aguero activated the effect of his in-hand Lightning, Dragon Ruler of Drafts, and Thomas Chained Maxx “C”. Aguero discarded Tidal along with his Lightning to Special Summon Tempest, Dragon Ruler of Storms from his Deck, and Thomas drew Forbidden Lance off of the effect of Maxx “C”. Next, he activated Dark Hole to destroy all monsters on the field, and both Madolche monsters were shuffled back into Thomas’s Deck. Finally, Aguero activated Super Rejuvenation to draw 2 cards in his End Phase.

Thomas Summoned Madolche Hootcake. He activated its effect to banish Maxx “C” from his Graveyard, and then Special Summoned Madolche Messengelato from his Deck. He used Messengelato’s effect to add Madolche Knights from his Deck to his hand. Next, he attacked directly with Hootcake and Messengelato to drop Thomas down to 300 Life Points. Thomas Set 3 cards to his back row before ending his turn.

Aguero activated Gold Sarcophagus to banish Blaster, Dragon Ruler of Infernos from his Deck, and used its effect to add Burner, Dragon Ruler of Sparks from his Deck to his hand. He activated its effect, and Thomas Chained Maxx “C”. Aguero discarded Burner and Redox to Special Summon Blaster from his Deck, and Thomas drew Madolche Ticket off of the effect of Maxx “C”. Next, Aguero activated another copy of Gold Sarcophagus to banish Redox, Dragon Ruler of Boulders from his Deck, and used its effect to add Reactan, Dragon Ruler of Pebbles from his Deck to his hand. He Summoned Reactan to the field, and then declared an attack on Madolche Hootcake; but when Thomas activated Forbidden Lance in the Damage Step to reduce the ATK of Reactan, Thomas sealed the victory; Reactan dropped down to 1000 ATK, and Hootcake’s 1500 ATK were enough to destroy the Reactan and wipe out Aguero’s last 300 Life Points!

Duel Two

Aguero banished Tempest and Blaster from his hand to Special Summon Redox from his hand, and used the effects of his banished Tempest and Blaster to add Burner and Tempest from his Deck to his hand. Next, he discarded Burner and Tempest to Special Summon Blaster from his Deck. He combined Blaster with Redox to Xyz Summon Mecha Phantom Beast Dracossack in Attack Position and then detached Redox from Dracossack to Special Summon 2 Mecha Phantom Beast Tokens in Defense Position. Aguero Set a back row before ending his turn.

Thomas opened up with Kycoo the Ghost Destroyer, Ultimate Offering, Solemn Judgment, Metaion, the Timelord, and 2 copies of Effect Veiler. He Summoned Kycoo and then attacked a Token to destroy it. He Set Ultimate Offering and Solemn Judgment before ending his turn.

Aguero detached an Xyz Material from Dracossack to Special Summon 2 more Mecha Phantom Beast Tokens to the field and then Tributed Dracossack to destroy Kycoo with the Dracossack’s effect. Next, Aguero banished Dracossack and Blaster from his Graveyard to Special Summon Tempest from his Graveyard, and used his Blaster’s effect to add a Blaster from his Deck to his hand. Aguero Tributed 2 Mecha Phantom Beast Tokens to Summon Blaster and then attacked directly with Tempest and Blaster to drop Thomas down to 2800 Life Points. Aguero Set a card to his back row before ending his turn.

Thomas drew Gozen Match next turn. He Summoned Metaion, the Timelord and then Set Gozen Match. He ended his turn, and Aguero returned Tempest to his hand in the End Phase.

Aguero activated Sacred Sword of Seven Stars to banish Tempest from his hand and draw 2 cards, and then used Tempest’s effect to add Lightning, Dragon Ruler of Drafts from his Deck to his hand. Next, he discarded Lightning and Tidal to use Lightning’s effect. When Thomas Chained Gozen Match, Aguero Chained Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy the Gozen Match. Aguero Special Summoned Tempest from his Deck with the effect of Lightning. Next, Aguero banished Burner and Redox from his Graveyard to Special Summon Tidal from his Graveyard.

Finally, Aguero flipped his face-down Skill Drain, and Thomas instantly conceded with his only line of defense – Metaion, the Timelord – shut down.

Duel Three

Thomas opened up Duel 3 with Metaion, the Timelord, Maxx “C”, Solemn Judgment, Madolche Chateau, Compulsory Evacuation Device, and Madolche Magileine.

He Summoned the Magileine and activated its effect to add another copy of Magileine from his Deck to his hand. Next, he activated Madolche Chateau. He Set Solemn Judgment and Compulsory Evacuation Device before ending his turn.

Aguero banished Tempest from his hand to activate Sacred Sword of Seven Stars and draw 2 cards, and then added another copy of Tempest from his Deck to his hand with the effect of his banished Tempest. Next, Aguero discarded Lightning, Dragon Ruler of Drafts and Blaster, Dragon Ruler of Infernos from his hand to Special Summon Tempest from his Deck in Attack Position. Aguero Set 2 cards to his back row and then activated Super Rejuvenation. He drew 2 cards in his End Phase.

Thomas drew Vanity’s Emptiness. He Summoned Madolche Magileine and activated its effect to add Madolche Hootcake to his hand. He combined both copies of Magileine to Xyz Summon Madolche Queen Tiaramisu; but Aguero activated Raigeki Break and discarded Tidal to destroy her. Next, Aguero Set Vanity’s Emptiness and ended his turn.

Aguero banished Tidal and Lightning from his Graveyard to Special Summon Blaster from his Graveyard and then used Tidal’s effect to add Stream, Dragon Ruler of Droplets from his Deck to his hand. Next, he activated the effect of his in-hand Tempest to discard it along with another Tempest and add Redox, Dragon Ruler of Boulders from his Deck to his hand. Aguero attacked directly with Blaster to drop Thomas down to 5200 Life Points and then activated his in-hand Stream’s effect. Thomas Chained Maxx “C”. Aguero discarded Stream and Redox to Special Summon Tidal from his Deck, and Aguero drew Madolche Knights.

Thomas drew Gozen Match. He Summoned Madolche Hootcake and activated its effect, targeting the Maxx “C” in his Graveyard; Aguero Chained Skill Drain, paying 1000 Life Points; but Thomas flipped Solemn Judgment and gave up 2600 Life Points to negate and destroy the Skill Drain! Thomas banished the Maxx “C” from his Graveyard and Special Summoned Madolche Puddingcess from his Deck!

He attacked Tidal with Puddingcess, and Aguero flipped Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy Madolche Chateau. Thomas lost 1600 Life Points, dropping down to 1000 Life Points, and Thomas activated Puddingcess’s effect to destroy Blaster. Thomas shuffled Puddingcess back into his Deck and then Set 2 cards to his back row before ending his turn.

Aguero banished Stream and Blaster from his Graveyard to Special Summon Redox from his Graveyard in Defense Position, and then used Blaster’s effect to add Burner from his Deck to his hand. Next, Aguero Summoned Effect Veiler; but Thomas flipped Gozen Match, and Aguero sent the Effect Veiler to his Graveyard.

Thomas activated his Hootcake’s effect, banishing Magileine from his Graveyard. Aguero Chained Maxx “C”. Thomas Special Summoned Messengelato from his Deck and added Madolchepalooza from his Deck to his hand with Messengelato’s effect, and Aguero drew a card. Thomas Set a card to his back row and then passed his turn.

Aguero banished Maxx “C” and Blaster from his Graveyard to Special Summon Redox from his hand and then added Dragunity Corsesca from his Deck to his hand with the effect of Tempest. At this point, time was called in the round. He ended his turn with Redox on the field in Defense Position.

Thomas activated his Hootcake’s effect by banishing Magileine from his Graveyard, and Special Summoned another Magileine from his Deck. He combined Magileine with Messengelato to Xyz Summon Madolche Queen Tiaramisu, and then detached an Xyz Material from her. He sent the Queen and Messengelato in his Graveyard back to his Extra Deck and Main Deck, and shuffled Redox back into Aguero’s Deck. Thomas attacked with Hootcake and Tiaramisu to drop Aguero down to 3300 Life Points and then ended his turn.

Aguero discarded Blaster and Burner from his hand to try to destroy Madolche Queen Tiaramisu, and Thomas Chained Madolche Knights to protect it. Aguero Set a card to each zone and then ended his turn.

Thomas activated Tiaramisu’s effect by detaching its last Xyz Material, and sent Chateau and Magileine from his Graveyard to his Deck to shuffle both of Aguero’s on-field cards back into Aguero’s Deck. Thomas attacked with Hootcake, and Aguero discarded Swift Scarecrow to stop the attack.

Aguero discarded Burner and Tidal to try to Special Summon Blaster from his Deck; but Thomas Chained Vanity’s Emptiness to stop it.

Thomas was up in the last turn of overtime. He attacked with Hootcake, and Aguero dropped down to 1800 Life Points, still up by 800 Life Points. Next, Tiaramisu attacked directly; but Aguero discarded Swift Scarecrow to try to stop the attack! Thomas, however, Chained Compulsory Evacuation Device to return the Tiaramisu to his hand, stopping the Swift Scarecrow’s effect. Vanity’s Emptiness was destroyed since Compulsory Evacuation Device entered Thomas’s Graveyard, and then Thomas activated Madolchepalooza! He Special Summoned Madolche Puddingcess from his hand! Since Thomas had no monsters in his Graveyard, Puddingcess had 1800 ATK. A direct attack from Puddingcess finished Aguero off!
