Ching Chen from Southern California is Dueling against local Duelist Jerry Nova in this Round 4 Feature Match! Chen is using a Mermail Deck packing Non Aggression Area to help him in his matchup against Dragon Rulers. Nova is using a Dragon Ruler Deck. Both Duelists currently have a 2-1 record, but only one of them will advance 3-1 in the tournament. It’s time to Duel!

 

Duel One

 

Chen opened up Duel 1 with Atlantean Heavy Infantry, Mermail Abyssteus, Atlantean Dragoons, Mermail Abyssgunde, and 2 copies of Aqua Spirit. He discarded Atlantean Dragoons to Special Summon Mermail Abyssteus and Nova used Maxx “C” to draw a card. Chen added Mermail Abysspike to his hand with the effect of Mermail Abyssteus and Atlantean Marksman to his hand with the effect of Atlantean Dragoons.

 

 

Nova activated Cards of Consonance to discard Dragunity Corsesca and draw 2 cards. He activated Dragon Ravine next, and used its effect to discard Tidal, Dragon Ruler of Waterfalls and send Tempest, Dragon Ruler of Storms from his Deck to his Graveyard. Next, he banished Tempest and Corsesca to Special Summon Tidal from his hand, and added Debris Dragon from his Deck to his hand with the effect of Tempest. He Summoned Debris Dragon next, and used its effect to Special Summon Maxx “C” from his Graveyard. He Tuned Debris Dragon with Maxx “C” to Synchro Summon Orient Dragon. He attacked and destroyed Mermail Abyssteus with Tidal and then attacked directly with Orient Dragon to drop Chen down to 5700 Life Points. Nova Set 3 cards to his back row before ending his turn.

 

Chen drew Mermail Abyssmegalo next turn. He discarded Atlantean Marksman and Atlantean Heavy Infantry to activate the effect of Mermail Abyssmegalo and try to Special Summon it; but Nova flipped Vanity’s Emptiness! Chen targeted Tidal with the effect of Atlantean Heavy Infantry and Nova’s face-down Book of Moon with Atlantean Marksman; but Nova Chained Book of Moon to put Tidal face-down and protect it. Vanity’s Emptiness went to the Graveyard right after Nova’s Book of Moon. Chen Summoned Mermail Abysspike next turn. He activated its effect by discarding Mermail Abyssgunde. He added Atlantean Marksman from his Deck to his hand with Abysspike’s effect and used his Abyssgunde’s effect to Special Summon Mermail Abyssteus from his Graveyard. Next, Chen discarded Atlantean Marksman and Aqua Spirit to Special Summon Mermail Abyssmegalo. He targeted Nova’s Raigeki Break for destruction with the effect of his Marksman, and Nova Chained it by discarding Tidal to destroy Abyssmegalo. Chen added Abyss-sphere from his Deck to his hand with the effect of Abyssmegalo after Abyssmegalo was destroyed. Chen banished Aqua Spirit from his Graveyard to Special Summon another Aqua Spirit from his hand and combined it with Mermail Abysspike to Xyz Summon Bahamut Shark. He attacked and destroyed Nova’s face-down Tidal with Bahamut Shark. In Main Phase 2, he detached Abysspike from his Shark to Special Summon Mermail Abysstrite from his Extra Deck in Defense Position.

 

Nova drew Sacred Sword of Seven Stars next turn and discarded it to activate the effect of Dragon Ravine and send Blaster, Dragon Ruler of Infernos from his Deck to his Graveyard. He banished Blaster and Debris Dragon from his Graveyard to Special Summon Tidal from his Graveyard and then used the effect of Blaster to add Flamvell Guard from his Deck to his hand. He Summoned Flamvell Guard and then Tuned it with Tidal to Synchro Summon Crimson Blader. Nova attacked and destroyed Bahamut Shark with Crimson Blader. In Nova’s Main Phase 2, Chen activated Abyss-sphere to Special Summon Mermail Abysslinde from his Deck. Abyss-sphere and Mermail Abysslinde were sent to the Graveyard in the End Phase, and Chen Special Summoned Mermail Abyssleed from his Deck with Abysslinde’s.

 

Chen drew Atlantean Heavy Infantry next turn. He combined Mermail Abyssleed with Mermail Abyssteus to Xyz Summon Number 11: Big Eye in Defense Position, and then used its effect to take control of Crimson Blader. He attacked and destroyed Nova’s Orient Dragon with Crimson Blader.

 

Nova drew Tidal and discarded it to send Redox from his Deck to his Graveyard with the effect of Dragon Ravine.

 

Chen drew Mermail Abysspike next turn. He Summoned Mermail Abysspike and switched all of his monsters into Attack Position! Direct attacks from Mermail Abysstrite, Number 11: Big Eye, Mermail Abysspike, and Crimson Blader wiped out Nova’s last 7500 Life Points!

Duel Two

 

Nova started off Duel 2 by Setting 2 cards to his back row.

 

 

Chen opened up Duel 2 with Mermail Abyssocea, Atlantean Dragoons, Mermail Abysslinde, Dark Hole, Atlantean Heavy Infantry, and Non Aggression Area. He Set Dark Hole and Non Aggression Area to his back row and then Set Mermail Abysslinde.

 

Nova Set a monster and passed.

 

Chen drew Imperial Iron Wall. He activated Non Aggression Area in his Standby Phase by discarding Mermail Abyssocea. Next, he activated his face-down Dark Hole! Nova’s face-down Debris Dragon was destroyed, along with Chen’s own Mermail Abysslinde. Chen Special Summoned Mermail Abyssmegalo from his Deck with the effect of Mermail Abysslinde. Next, he Summoned Atlantean Dragoons. He used the effect of Mermail Abyssmegalo to Tribute Atlantean Dragoons and let Abyssmegalo attack twice; but Nova flipped Divine Wrath and discarded a card to destroy Abyssmegalo and negate its effect. Chen added Mermail Abyssmegalo from his Deck to his hand with the effect of his Atlantean Dragoons. He Set Imperial Iron Wall before entering his End Phase. In his End Phase, Nova flipped Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy the Imperial Iron Wall.

 

Nova passed his turn without making a play, unable to Summon due to Non Aggression Area.

 

Chen drew Vanity’s Fiend and then passed.

 

Nova banished 2 copies of Debris Dragon from his Graveyard to Special Summon Tidal, Dragon Ruler of Waterfalls from his hand. He attacked directly to drop Chen down to 5400 Life Points.

 

Chen drew Mermail Abyssgunde next turn. He discarded Mermail Abyssgunde and Atlantean Heavy Infantry from his hand to try to Special Summon Mermail Abyssmegalo, and Nova Chained Maxx “C”! Nova drew 1 card when Abyssmegalo was Summoned, and another when Abyssgunde Special Summoned a second Abyssmegalo from the Graveyard. Chen added Abyss-sphere from his Deck to his hand with the effect of Abyssmegalo, and destroyed Tidal with Atlantean Heavy Infantry. He attacked for 4800 points of damage with both Abyssmegalos, and then Tributed 1 of them for Vanity’s Fiend in Main Phase 2. He Set Abyss-sphere before ending his turn.

 

Nova activated Dark Hole to clear the field! He discarded Redox with Dragon Ravine to send Blaster, Dragon Ruler of Infernos from his Deck to his Graveyard. Next, he banished Maxx “C” and Blaster from his Graveyard to Special Summon Redox. He added Flamvell Guard from his Deck to his hand with the effect of his banished Blaster. Nova Tuned Redox with Blaster to Synchro Summon Crimson Blader and then banished Flamvell Guard and Redox to Special Summon Tidal from his Graveyard. He attacked with Crimson Blader, and Chen activated Abyss-sphere to Special Summon Mermail Abysslinde in Defense Position. Crimson Blader attacked and destroyed Mermail Abysslinde, and Chen Special Summoned Mermail Abyssleed from his Deck in Attack Position.

 

Chen drew Imperial Iron Wall next turn. He attacked and destroyed Tidal and then Set his Imperial Iron Wall.

 

Nova discarded Redox to activate the effect of his Dragon Ravine and sent Tempest from his Deck to his Graveyard. Next, Nova activated Return from the Different Dimension. He paid 1550 Life Points to Special Summon Blaster, Redox, Debris Dragon, and Flamvell Guard from his Banished Zone. He Tuned Redox with Flamvell Guard to Special Summon Stardust Dragon, and then attacks from Crimson Blader, Stardust Dragon, Blaster, and Debris Dragon wiped out Chen’s Life Points!

Duel Three

 

Chen opened up Duel 3 with Imperial Iron Wall, Mystical Space Typhoon, Aqua Spirit, Atlantean Marksman, Mermail Abyssturge, and Mermail Abyssgunde. He Set Mystical Space Typhoon and Imperial Iron Wall before ending his first turn.

 

Nova activated Dragon Ravine. He discarded Blaster, Dragon Ruler of Infernos to use its effect, but Chen stopped it by Chaining Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy the Ravine. Next, Chen flipped Imperial Iron Wall. Chen ended his turn with no field.

 

Chen drew Non Aggression Area. He Summoned Atlantean Marksman and attacked directly with it, dropping Nova down to 6600 Life Points. Next, he Special Summoned Atlantean Dragoons from his Deck with his Marksman’s effect, dropping Nova down to 4800 Life Points. Chen Set Non Aggression Area before ending his turn.

 

Nova activated Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy Imperial Iron Wall and then Set a card to his back row.

 

Chen drew Debunk and then activated Non Aggression Area in his Standby Phase by discarding Abyssturge. Next, he banished Abyssturge from his Graveyard to Special Summon Aqua Spirit. He attacked directly with Atlantean Marksman; but his Battle Phase was cut short by Swift Scarecrow! In Main Phase 2, Chen combined Aqua Spirit with Atlantean Dragoons to Xyz Summon Bahamut Shark. He detached Atlantean Dragoons from it to Special Summon Mermail Abysstrite from his Extra Deck and then added Mermail Abyssmegalo from his Deck to his hand with the effect of Atlantean Dragoons. Chen Set Debunk before ending his turn.

 

Nova activated Dark Hole to destroy all monsters on the field! He ended his turn, unable to Summon.

 

Chen drew a second Debunk and Set it. He Summoned Mermail Abyssgunde and attacked directly with it, dropping Nova down to 3400 Life Points.

 

Nova banished Swift Scarecrow and Blaster, Dragon Ruler of Infernos from his Graveyard to try to Special Summon Redox from his hand; but Chen flipped Debunk to banish the Redox. Chen added Flamvell Guard from his Deck to his hand with the effect of Blaster. Next, Nova activated Return from the Different Dimension! He Special Summoned Redox and Blaster in Attack Position, along with Swift Scarecrow in Defense Position, by giving up 1700 Life Points. He attacked Mermail Abyssgunde with Redox to destroy it, and then attacked directly with Blaster to drop Chen down to 5000 Life Points. Chen combined his Redox with Blaster in Main Phase 2 to Xyz Summon Mecha Phantom Beast Dracossack in Attack Position! He detached Redox to Special Summon 2 Mecha Phantom Beast Tokens in Defense Position and then Tributed a Token to destroy Debunk. He Tributed Swift Scarecrow in Main Phase 2 to Summon Vanity’s Fiend.

 

Chen drew Maxx “C” and Set it.

 

Nova discarded Flamvell Guard and Blaster, Dragon Ruler of Infernos to destroy Chen’s face-down Maxx “C” with his Blaster’s effect. Direct attacks from Dracossack and Vanity’s Fiend finished Chen off!
