Round 5 Feature Match: Robert Boyajian versus Joseph Villadiego

October 6th, 2013

Joseph Villadiego made the trip here from Henderson, Nevada, and brought along Dragon Rulers featuring Blue-Eyes White Dragon. He’s in for a tough match, as he’s facing Robert Boyajian who last appeared in the Top 8 of the 2013 World Championship! Boyajian made the trip up from Newport Beach, California, with a Dragon Ruler Deck of his own.

Duel 1

Villadiego started off with Tidal, Dragon Ruler of Waterfalls, discarding another Tidal. He sent Blaster, Dragon Ruler of Infernos to the Graveyard. He banished Blaster from the Graveyard and Redox, Dragon Ruler of Boulders from his hand to Special Summon Tempest, Dragon Ruler of Storms from his hand. Redox and Blaster searched out another Redox and Flamvell Guard. He Normal Summoned Flamvell Guard and Synchro Summoned Colossal Fighter, then Set a back row.

Boyajian had Mystical Space Typhoon, Terraforming, Dragunity Corseca, Tidal, Dragon Ruler of Waterfalls, and 2 Tempest, Dragon Ruler of Storms. He played Typhoon, and Villadiego Chained Return from the Different Dimension! He Special Summoned Blaster in attack position, and Redox in defense. Boyajian continued with Terraforming to get Dragon Ravine, then used Ravine to discard Tempest and send Trigon to the Graveyard. He discarded Tempest and Corseca to search out Debris Dragon, then Normal Summoned Debris to revive Trigon. He Synchro Summoned Ancient Fairy Dragon, destroyed Ravine to gain 1000 Life Points, and searched out a new Ravine. He played that, and discarded Tidal to send Blaster to the Graveyard. He banished Debris and Corseca to revive Tidal, then stacked it and Ancient Fairy Dragon for Number 11: Big Eye! Big Eye swiped Blaster, then Boyajian revived his own Blaster by banishing Tempest and Ancient Fairy Dragon. He stacked the Blasters for Mecha Phantom Beast Dracossack, made two Mecha Phantom Beast Tokens, and Tributed one to destroy Colossal Fighter. In the End Phase, Redox returned to Villadiego’s hand.

Villadiego banished Flamvell Guard and Tempest to revive Tidal from his Graveyard. With Tempest, he searched out Corseca. He played D.D.R. – Different Dimension Reincarnation next, discarding Redox to return Tempest to the field! He Xyz Summoned his own Big Eye in defense position, stole Boyajian’s Big Eye with it, then used that to steal a Mecha Phantom Beast Token. He discarded two copies of Redox for its effect, reviving one of them. He paired that with Corseca to bring out Crimson Blader! Blader destroyed Dracossack in battle, then revived Blaster in Main Phase 2.

Boyajian drew Vanity’s Emptiness and Set it. Blaster returned to the hand.

Big Eye, and Blader dropped Boyajian to 600 Life Points. In Main Phase 2, Villadiego banished Tempest and Redox to revive Redox, but Boyajian Chained Vanity’s Emptiness. Villadiego Set two back row cards.

Boyajian drew Swift Scarecrow. He used Ravine to discard it, sending Redox to the Graveyard and destroying Vanity’s Emptiness. He banished Tempest and Scarecrow to bring Redox to the field, and Tempest gave him Debris Dragon. He played it, revived Trigon, and wiped the field with Black Rose Dragon! Villadiego’s face-down cards were Cards of Consonance and Trade-In. Boyajian revived Tidal and Blaster to the open field. Since Villadiego had paid half his Life Points for Return from the Different Dimension, Boyajian  was able to finish him off!

Even after having his Big Eye get Big Eye’d, Robert Boyajian is able to mount a comeback with Black Rose Dragon!

He blasted the last back row card with Typhoon, a Vanity’s Emptiness. Boyajian continued by using Blaster in his Graveyard, banishing Ancient Fairy Dragon and Tempest. Tempest searched out Debris, and he Summoned it to bring out Trigon. He Synchro Summoned Ancient Fairy Dragon, then blew up Villadiego’s Dragon Ravine and got a Ravine of his own!
