Round 8 Feature Match: Junior Santos vs. Joseph Anadio
Junior Santos from Seattle, Washington and Joseph Anadio from Tustin, California are both currently 5-2 in the tournament with unconventional Decks. Santos is using a Gladiator Beast Deck that uses 3 of each Dragon Ruler, and Anadio is using Blackwings. One of these Duelists will advance with a 6-2 record and a strong shot at making it to Day 2. It’s time to Duel!
Duel One
Santos opened up Duel 1 with Mystical Space Typhoon, Effect Veiler, Gladiator Beast Octavius, Tidal, Dragon Ruler of Waterfalls, Blaster, Dragon Ruler of Infernos, and Sacred Sword of Seven Stars. He activated Sacred Sword of Seven Stars to banish Gladiator Beast Octavius and draw 2 cards. Next, he activated Dragon Ravine. He discarded Tidal to send Tempest, Dragon Ruler of Storms from his Deck to his Graveyard with the effect of Dragon Ravine. Then, he used Tidal’s effect to try to Special Summon it by banishing Blaster from his hand and Tempest from his Graveyard. Anadio Chained Maxx “C” to draw a card. Santos Set Mystical Space Typhoon and Book of Moon before ending his turn.
Anadio activated Pot of Duality, revealing Blackwing – Bora the Spear, Allure of Darkness, and Blackwing – Blizzard the Far North from the top of his Deck. He added Allure of Darkness to his hand and shuffled the other 2 cards back into his Deck. Next, he activated Allure of Darkness to draw 2 cards and banish Blackwing – Vayu the Emblem of Honor from his hand. He activated Black Whirlwind next, and then Normal Summoned Blackwing – Bora the Spear. Santos flipped Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy the Black Whirlwind so that Anadio wouldn’t be able to use its effect. Anadio ended his turn and Santos returned Tidal to his hand in the End Phase.
Santos discarded Tempest from his hand to activate the effect of Dragon Ravine and send Blaster, Dragon Ruler of Infernos from his Deck to his Graveyard. Next, he banished Blaster and Tempest to Special Summon Tidal, Dragon Ruler of Waterfalls from his hand. Anadio flipped Bottomless Trap Hole to banish Tidal, and Santos searched his Deck for a copy of Flamvell Guard to add to his hand with the effect of his banished Blaster. He Set Mystical Space Typhoon before ending his turn.
Anadio attacked directly with Blackwing – Bora the Spear, dropping Santos down to 6300 Life Points. He Set a card to his back row before ending his turn, and Santos destroyed the newly Set Vanity’s Emptiness with Mystical Space Typhoon in the End Phase.
Santos discarded Blaster and Flamvell Guard from his hand to use Blaster’s effect and target Anadio’s face-down Icarus Attack. Anadio Chained it to Tribute Bora and destroy Santos’s face-down Book of Moon and face-up Dragon Ravine. Santos Summoned Gladiator Beast Bestiari next, but lost his monster to Torrential Tribute.
Anadio Summoned Blackwing – Zephyros the Elite next turn and attacked directly with it.
Santos Summoned Gladiator Beast Laquari next turn. He attacked Zephyros to try to destroy it in battle, but Anadio discarded Blackwing – Kalut the Moon Shadow to increase his monster’s ATK and win the battle.
Anadio Summoned Blackwing – Shura the Blue Flame next. He attacked directly with Shura and Zephyros to drop Santos down to 100 Life Points. Anadio combined his monsters to Xyz Summon Gagaga Cowboy in Main Phase 2, but when he tried to deal 800 points of damage with his Cowboy’s effect, Santos discarded Effect Veiler to negate the Cowboy’s effect and stay in the Duel!
Santos Special Summoned Blaster and attacked over Gagaga Cowboy to destroy it. He Set Bottomless Trap Hole before ending his turn.
Anadio drew Black Whirlwind and activated it. He returned it to his hand to Special Summon Zephyros from his Graveyard at the cost of 400 Life Points, but lost his monster to Bottomless Trap Hole.
Santos Set a monster and passed.
Anadio drew a card and passed.
Santos drew a card and passed.
Anadio activated Black Whirlwind. He Summoned Kalut and used its effect to add Blackwing – Gale the Whirlwind from his Deck to his hand. He Special Summoned Gale and then attacked Debris Dragon with Kalut, losing 600 Life Points. He used Gale’s effect to halve the ATK and DEF of Debris Dragon and then Tuned his monsters into HTS Psyhemuth in Main Phase 2.
Santos Set Raigeki Break and then ended his turn.
Anadio attacked Debris Dragon with HTS Psyhemuth, and Santos activated Raigeki Break, discarding Blaster to destroy HTS Psyhemuth.
Santos activated Dragon Ravine next turn. He discarded Redox to send Tempest from his Deck to his Graveyard with the effect of Dragon Ravine. He banished Tempest and Redox from his Graveyard to Special Summon Blaster from his Graveyard, and Anadio Chained Maxx “C” to draw a card on its Special Summon. Next, Anadio Summoned Dragunity Corsesca. He attacked directly with Blaster and Corsesca to drop Anadio down to 3400 Life Points. He Tuned Corsesca with Blaster in Main Phase 2 to Synchro Summon Scrap Dragon and Anadio drew another card with Maxx “C”. Santos used his Scrap Dragon’s effect to destroy his own Debris Dragon along with Anadio’s Black Whirlwind in Main Phase 2.
Anadio Normal Summoned Blackwing – Sirocco the Dawn and passed.
Santos drew Tidal and discarded it with Dragon Ravine to send Redox to his Graveyard. Next, he banished 2 Dragons to Special Summon Blaster, and destroyed his own Ravine with Scrap Dragon to take down Anadio Sirocco. Direct attacks from Blaster and Scrap Dragon wiped out Anadio’s last 3400 Life Points!
Junior Santos uses Effect Veiler to negate Gagaga Cowboy’s effect while he’s at just 100 Life Points and then turns the Duel around to win it with his Gladiator Beast Deck! Joseph Anadio will be going first in Duel 2!
Duel Two
Anadio started off Duel 2 by activating Pot of Duality. He revealed Blackwing – Zephyros the Elite, Blackwing – Kalut the Moon Shadow, and Mystical Space Typhoon from the top of his Deck. He added Kalut to his hand and shuffled the other 2 cards back into his Deck. He Normal Summoned Bora and then Set 2 cards to his back row.
Santos opened up Duel 2 with Fencing Fire Ferret, Bottomless Trap Hole, Solemn Warning, Tidal, Dragon Ruler of Waterfalls, Book of Moon, and Gladiator Beast Laquari. He Summoned his Ferret and then attacked Bora, destroying both monsters. Santos Set Solemn Warning, Bottomless Trap Hole, and Book of Moon before ending his turn. Anadio destroyed Solemn Warning with Mystical Space Typhoon in the End Phase.
Anadio activated Black Whirlwind and then Summoned Bora. Santos flipped Bottomless Trap Hole to try to banish Bora, and Anadio Chained Icarus Attack to Tribute Bora and target the activated Bottomless Trap Hole and Santos’s face-down Book of Moon for destruction.
Santos Summoned Gladiator Beast Laquari next turn. He attacked directly with Laquari and then sent it back into his Deck at the end of the Battle Phase by activating its effect. Anadio Chained Maxx “C” to the effect of Laquari, and Santos Special Summoned Gladiator Beast Bestiari and used its effect to destroy Black Whirlwind. Anadio drew a card off of Maxx “C”. Santos Set Cards of Consonance before ending his turn.
Anadio activated Black Whirlwind and then Summoned Kalut. He used Black Whirlwind’s effect to add Blackwing – Gale the Whirlwind from his Deck to his hand and then Special Summoned Gale. He used Gale’s effect to halve the ATK and DEF of Bestiari, and then attacked over Bestiari with Kalut to destroy it. A direct attack from Gale dropped Santos down to 6050.
Santos discarded 2 copies of Tidal from his hand to activate its effect and send Blaster, Dragon Ruler of Infernos from his Deck to his Graveyard. Next, he banished Tidal and his Ferret to Special Summon Blaster, and attacked Gale with Blaster to destroy it and drop Anadio down to 4700 Life Points.
Anadio Tributed Kalut to Summon Blackwing – Sirocco the Dawn and then used his Black Whirlwind’s effect to add Blackwing – Kalut the Moon Shadow from his Deck to his hand. He attacked Blaster with Sirocco and then discarded Kalut from his hand in the damage step to increase Sirocco’s ATK and destroy Blaster in battle.
Santos banished Blaster from his Graveyard and his hand to Special Summon Tidal from his Graveyard next turn, and then used his banished Blaster’s effect to add Flamvell Guard from his Deck to his hand. He attacked Sirocco with Tidal; but Anadio discarded Kalut from his hand in the Damage Step to increase his monster’s ATK and destroy Tidal in battle. Santos flipped Cards of Consonance in Main Phase 2 to discard Flamvell Guard and draw Debris Dragon and Trap Stun. He Set both cards before passing.
Anadio Set a card to his back row and then attacked Debris Dragon with Sirocco, unable to destroy it.

Santos activated Trap Stun. Next, he activated Dragon Ravine. He discarded Maxx “C” to activate his Dragon Ravine’s effect and send Tempest, Dragon Ruler of Storms from his Deck to his Graveyard. Then, he banished Tempest and Flamvell Guard to Special Summon Tidal from his Graveyard. He used Tempest’s effect to add Dragunity Corsesca from his Deck to his hand. He Summoned Corsesca and then switched Debris Dragon into Attack Position. He attacked Sirocco with Tidal to destroy it and then attacked directly with Corsesca and Debris Dragon to drop Anadio down to 2300 Life Points. In Main Phase 2, Santos Tuned Corsesca with Tidal to Synchro Summon Scrap Dragon. He used his Dragon’s effect to destroy his own Debris Dragon along with Anadio’s Black Whirlwind before ending his turn.
Anadio drew a card and Set it to his back row.
Santos drew Raigeki Break next turn. He used his Scrap Dragon’s effect to destroy his own Dragon Ravine along with Anadio’s face-down Vanity’s Emptiness and then attacked directly with Scrap Dragon to win the Duel and the Match!
