Top 8 Feature Match: Xue Hu versus Stephen Klaus

October 8th, 2013

Only eight Duelists remain in the tournament now. Dragunity Decks are now the most common Decks remaining, having weeded out most of the Dragon Rulers. This match will see a Dragunity mirror match, between Xue Hu and Stephen Klaus. Only one can move on!

Duel 1

Klaus’s Top 8 hand consisted of 2 Redox, Dragon Ruler of Boulders, Blaster, Dragon Ruler of Infernos, Tempest, Dragon Ruler of Storms, Terraforming, and Dragon Ravine. He got another Ravine and played it, discarding Tempest to add Dragunity Phalanx to his hand. He banished Tempest from the Graveyard and Blaster from the hand to Special Summon Redox. He added Dragunity Mystletainn and Blaster to his hand. He Normal Summoned Phalanx and used it to Special Summon Mystletainn. It equipped Phalanx, which was Special Summoned. He tuned Phalanx to Mystletainn for Colossal Fighter and passed.

Hu used Ravine, destroying Klaus’s. He played Gold Sarcophagus to banish Tempest, adding Dragunity Corsesca to his hand. He used Ravine next, discarding Tidal, Dragon Ruler of Waterfalls to put Tempest in the Graveyard. He banished Tidal from the Graveyard and Blaster from his hand to Special Summon Redox in defense position, adding Blaster and Tidal from his Deck to his hand. He Normal Summoned Corsesca and tuned it to Redox for Scrap Dragon! It destroyed Ravine and Colossal Fighter. Klaus’s Redox returned to his hand in the End Phase.

Klaus drew Solemn Warning. He played Ravine, discarding Blaster to add Dragunity Dux to his hand. He discarded both of his Redox to Special Summon Colossal Fighter! Dux came next, equipping Phalanx. Hu Chained Maxx “C” when Phalanx used its effect, but Klaus continued and Synchro Summoned HTS Psyhemuth! Colossal Fighter collided with Scrap Dragon, revived itself, and attacked again! HTS Psyhemuth attacked as well, leaving Hu at 2800. Klaus Set Solemn Warning to finish.

Hu discarded Debris Dragon for Cards of Consonance. He banished Tidal for Sacred Sword of Seven Stars, adding another Tidal to his hand. He activated Redox from his Graveyard, banishing Debris and Maxx “C”. He used Blaster from the Graveyard next, banishing Tempest and Scrap Dragon, and added Corsesca to his hand. He Xyz Summoned Mecha Phantom Beast Dracossack, but when it used its effect, it was negated and destroyed by Solemn Warning! Hu Set two back row cards.

Klaus drew Upstart Goblin. He thought a while before playing it, drawing Blaster. He used Ravine to discard it, and Hu Chained Raigeki Break to destroy Ravine! Hu discarded Tidal for the cost. Klaus banished Mystletainn and Redox to Special Summon Blaster, then banished Blaster and Phalanx for Redox, but Hu Chained Vanity’s Emptiness. Blaster attacked, and Hu used Swift Scarecrow.

Hu added Tempest to his hand thanks to Gold Sarcophagus, then played Card Trooper. He sent Debris, Maxx “C”, and another Trooper, and Vanity’s Emptiness destroyed itself. Redox banished Maxx “C” and Scarecrow to revive itself, then Hu used Tempest in his hand, banishing Dracossack and Debris. He stacked Tempest and Redox for Number 11: Big Eye, and it stole Blaster! Hu banished Corsesca and Blaster to revive Tidal, and stacked it with Blaster for Mecha Phantom Beast Dracossack. It created 2 Mecha Phantom Beast Tokens, then Tributed one to destroy Colossal Fighter.

Klaus drew Dragunity Phalanx. He Normal Summoned it, and Hu used Raigeki Break to destroy HTS Psyhemuth! With only Phalanx to face Hu’s imposing field, Klaus wouldn’t be able to make a comeback!

Hu discarded Tempest and Debris to add Blaster to his hand. He Set two back row cards.

Klaus drew Blaster. He activated Ravine, discarding Blaster and putting Phalanx in the Graveyard. Sacred Sword banished Tempest to give him Mystical Space Typhoon and Dux, and Tempest got him Dragunity Mystletainn. Dux came down and equipped Phalanx, and Hu Chained Maxx “C” to Phalanx’s effect. Dux dealt 1900 damage, and Klaus Set Mystical Space Typhoon and Return.

Hu banished Blaster for Sacred Sword, adding Flamvell Guard to his hand. He banished Debris from his Graveyard and Blaster from his hand for the Tempest in his Graveyard, and Klaus flipped Vanity’s Emptiness. Klaus tuned Phalanx to Dux for Dragunity Knight – Vajrayana, equipping Phalanx. He Special Summoned Phalanx, and tuned it to Vajrayana for Stardust Dragon. He Normal Summoned Dux, but it was flipped by Book of Moon before it could be equipped. Klaus banished Phalanx and Vajrayana for Blaster, but Hu negated it with Debunk, banishing it. Klaus took the opportunity to play Return from the Different Dimension, throwing down Blaster, Tempest, and Phalanx, and wiped out the rest of Hu’s Life Points!

Return is a pretty good card

Hu began with Card Trooper, sending Debris and 2 Redox to the Graveyard. He banished Tidal and Blaster from his hand to revive Redox, and added another Tidal and Blaster to his hand.

Klaus had Ravine, Phalanx, Redox, Tempest, Blaster, and Mystletainn. He discarded Tempest and Phalanx to search out Blaster. He played Ravine, discarded Redox, and put Dux in his hand. Dux came down and brought back Phalanx. Hu Chained Maxx “C” to Phalanx’s effect, and Klaus sighed. He tuned Phalanx to Dux for HTS Psyhemuth. Psyhemuth destroyed Trooper in battle, giving Hu a new card.

Hu played Ravine, destroying Klaus’s. He banished Tidal for Sacred Sword of Seven Stars, and got a new Tidal to his hand. He banished Maxx “C” and Trooper to Special Summon Redox from the Graveyard, and he still had 9 cards to work with in his hand. He Normal Summoned Dragunity Corsesca, tuned it to Redox, and threw down Scrap Dragon. He Set Sacred Sword and had Scrap destroy it and HTS Psyhemuth. Klaus drew Ravine. He discarded both copies of Blaster to target a back row card, Debunk, and Hu Chained it. Klaus revived Redox, banishing HTS Psyhemuth and Tempest, and added Phalanx to his hand. He played Ravine, destroying Hu’s, and discarded Phalanx to put Dux in his hand. He played Dux, brought Phalanx to the field, and combined them for Dragunity Knight – Vajrayana. That brought Phalanx back again, and Klaus used Phalanx to Special Summon Dragunity Mystletainn. That equipped Phalanx yet again, and he Special Summoned it. Klaus stacked Mystletainn and Vajrayana for Hieratic Dragon King of Atum, and used it to Special Summon Tempest from the Deck. He stacked Tempest and Redox for Mecha Phantom Beast Dracossack, and created 2 Mecha Phantom Beast Tokens. Klaus tuned Phalanx to the Tokens for Colossal Fighter.
