Round 3 Feature Match: Dakota Angeloff versus Zachary Leverett
It’s Round 3, and this time we’re sitting with Dakota Angeloff, from Tuscaloosa, Alabama. He’s using Fire Fists today, but he’s teched his Deck out with ways to beat the other Fire Fist Decks he’s expecting: He’s using some secret tech choices to get the job done. Unfortunately, he’s up against a very different kind of Deck this round: Zachary Leverett’s Hieratic Dragons! Zachary has the home field advantage today, being from right here near Atlanta. It’s Fire versus Dragons!
Duel 1
Leverett began with Reckless Greed, Flamvell Guard, Hieratic Seal of Convocation, Enemy Controller, Tidal, Dragon Ruler of Waterfalls, and Blaster, Dragon Ruler of Infernos. He Set Reckless Greed.
Angeloff played Fire Formation – Tenki, adding Brotherhood of the Fire Fist - Bear to his hand. Bear attacked and grabbed Fire Formation – Gyokkou. Leverett preempted Gyokkou and played Reckless Greed to draw Labradorite Dragon and Solemn Warning. Angeloff played Pot of Duality to reveal Solemn Warning, Call of the Haunted, and… Traptrix Trap Hole Nightmare?! He took Warning, then Set four cards to his back row.
Leverett skipped his draw, due to Reckless Greed. He played Hieratic Seal of Convocation to search out Hieratic Dragon of Tefnuit, but lost that to Black Horn of Heaven! He discarded Blaster and Flamvell Guard to destroy Bear, then Set Enemy Controller and Warning.
Angeloff played Gyokkou to lock down Enemy Controller. Tenki came next, searching out Brotherhood of the Fire Fist – Gorilla, and it was lost to Leverett’s Solemn Warning.
Leverett skipped his draw, and made no plays.
Angeloff had Coach Soldier Wolfbark! He revived Bear and attacked directly with Wolfbark.
Leverett finally could draw a card, and it was Maxx “C”. He banished Tefnuit and Flamvell Guard to revive Blaster, which destroyed Wolfbark in battle.
Angeloff played another Wolfbark to bring back Gorilla, and Leverett’s Maxx “C” gave him Hieratic Seal of Convocation. Angeloff pressed on, and Xyz Summoned Number 101: Silent Honor ARK! Leverett knew he was done for, and conceded immediately!
Dakota Angeloff takes advantage of his opponent’s weak hand, never letting him get going! The Duelists changed things up with their Side Decks, discussing what would have happened if Leverett had decided to Tribute his Blaster to Set Labradorite Dragon, instead of leaving himself open to Number 101.
Duel 2
Leverett began with 2 Effect Veiler, Hieratic Dragon of Tefnuit, Mystical Space Typhoon, Dragon Shrine, and A Wingbeat of Giant Dragon. He used Dragon Shrine to put Labradorite Dragon and Tempest, Dragon Ruler of Storms in the Graveyard.
Angeloff played Pot of Duality to choose Tenki from his Deck, losing it to Mystical Space Typhoon. He Set five to his back row.
Leverett drew and Set Reckless Greed. Angeloff had nothing, and passed the next five turns! In that time, Leverett drew Compulsory Evacuation Device, Enemy Controller, and Solemn Warning, Setting them all, and used Upstart Goblin to get A Wingbeat of Giant Dragon. Angeloff passed again, and Leverett used Dragon Shrine, putting Flamvell Guard and Blaster, Dragon Ruler of Infernos in his Graveyard. Angeloff flipped up Soul Drain then, but once again passed his next turn. Leverett drew Redox, Dragon Ruler of Boulders, and Hieratic Dragon of Tefnuit, passing those turns as well. He was biding his time, waiting until it was safe to play A Wingbeat of Giant Dragon and safely make his moves.
Angeloff finally tried to make a move, playing Banisher of the Radiance, but lost it to Solemn Warning.
Leverett drew Hieratic Dragon of Su and Set Wingbeat.
Angeloff discarded Fiendish Chain due to having too many cards in the End Phase!
Leverett drew another Hieratic Dragon of Su. He flipped Reckless Greed to draw Debris Dragon and another Reckless Greed. He Set both, then discarded Redox at the End Phase since his had too many cards.
Angeloff played Traptrix Myrmeleo. “Attack Debris…” he said, and he called it right. Leverett used Reckless Greed to get Torrential Tribute and Hieratic Seal of Convocation.
Leverett Tributed Debris for Tefnuit, then flipped A Wingbeat of Giant Dragon! Angeloff lost 2 Black Horns of Heaven, Fiendish Chain, and Light-Imprisoning Mirror. Leverett Tributed Tefnuit to Special Summon Su, and Angeloff knew where this was going – he conceded before Leverett needed to finish his combos.
After a long Duel, Zachary Leverett manages to finally blow the field wide open and take the win!
Duel 3
Angeloff started off with Traptrix Myrmeleo and Fire Formation – Tenki! He used both effects to get Bottomless Trap Hole and Coach Soldier Wolfbark, respectively, and Set three back row cards.
Leverett had Hieratic Dragon of Eset, Hieratic Dragon of Su, Hieratic Dragon of Tefnuit, Redox, Dragon Ruler of Boulders, and Tidal, Dragon Ruler of Waterfalls. He drew Hieratic Seal of Convocation. He played Tefnuit into Bottomless Trap Hole, then used Hieratic Seal of Convocation to get another Tefnuit, but Angeloff used Torrential Tribute! Leverett Normal Summoned Eset, and Tributed it to Special Summon Su. Eset’s effect Special Summoned Labradorite Dragon, and he Xyz Summoned Hieratic Dragon King of Atum. Atum was negated by Fiendish Chain, and Leverett used it to Xyz Summon Gaia Dragon, the Thunder Charger. He attacked directly with Gaia Dragon.
Angeloff had Brotherhood of the Fire Fist - Bear! Bear used Tenki to destroy Gaia Dragon and attacked, getting Tenki. That got him Wolfbark, and he Set one back row card.
Leverett drew A Wingbeat of Giant Dragon. He banished Atum and Gaia Dragon to Special Summon Redox from his hand, then returned it with Wingbeat to wipe out Angeloff’s Set Mystical Space Typhoon and everything else. Tidal came down next by banishing Eset and Tefnuit, and it destroyed Bear in battle.
Angeloff played Tenki, getting Bear. It pitched Tenki to destroy Tidal. Bear attacked, and its effect Set Fire Formation – Gyokkou, and Angeloff Set another card alongside it.
Leverett drew Reckless Greed. He banished Su and Redox for Tidal, but Angeloff had The Transmigration Prophecy! He returned Tidal and his own Tenki to the Decks. Leverett Set Reckless Greed, and played it as soon as Angeloff’s turn started so he wouldn’t lose to Gyokkou – he got Tidal again, and Torrential Tribute.
Angeloff played Wolfbark, getting back Bear. Wolfbark and the first Bear attacked, and Angeloff stacked his bears for Steelswarm Roach.
Leverett skipped his draw and Set the Torrential Tribute. Angeloff didn’t Summon anything to trigger it though, and he was moving ahead undefeated with FireTrix! Or is it TrapFists?
