Round 6 Feature Match: Austin Starks versus Pedro Isidro
Cowardly mortals! I, Grapha, Dragon Lord of Dark World, am back to devastate Duelists around the convention center! In a format where Duelists nationwide believe that any Deck is viable, I am here to prove that only my army – the Dark World army – is worthy of emerging in victory! For now, Austin Starks is commanding my army, and he has brought with him new recruits. Even the noble Divine Dragon Knight Felgrand has allied itself with my Dark World forces. The opposing Fire Fist forces, controlled by Pedro Isidro, think they can defeat me!? Let’s Duel, and prove them wrong!
Duel One
Isidro started off Duel 1 by Summoning Brotherhood of the Fire Fist – Dragon and activating Fire Formation – Tenki. He activated Tenki’s effect to add Coach Soldier Wolfbark from his Deck to his hand and then used his Dragon’s effect to Set Fire Formation – Tensen from his Deck. This, of course, was a pitiful play that did not involve even a single DARK monster. Next, Isidro used Pot of Duality, revealing Fire Formation – Tensu, Fire Formation – Tenki, and Fire Formation – Gyokkou from the top of his Deck. He added Gyokkou from his Deck to his hand and shuffled the other 2 cards back into his Deck. Fortunately for Starks and myself, my Dark World army doesn’t need face-down cards to emerge victorious. Isidro, who does need these weak defensive cards, Set 2 cards to his back row before passing.
Starks – a worthy ally of the Dark World army – opened up Duel 2 with 2 copies of Trade-In, Into the Void, The Gates of Dark World, Dragged Down into the Grave, and me, Grapha, Dragon Lord of Dark World!
He activated Into the Void to draw another copy of myself from his Deck, and then used Trade-In to discard a copy and draw Reckless Greed and Upstart Goblin. Although I was sent to the Graveyard, I knew I would later return – for I am immortal! Starks used Upstart Goblin to generously give 1000 Life Points to Isidro, and then used Trade-In to discard another of me and draw Broww, Huntsman of Dark World and another Into the Void, which he activated. Next, Starks Summoned Broww and returned it to his hand so that I, Grapha, could join the battle! Starks Set Dragged Down into the Grave and Reckless Greed, activated The Gates of Dark World, and then used Dragged Down into the Grave. Starks discarded Wolfbark from Isidro’s hand, and Isidro discarded Broww from Starks’s hand. Both Duelists drew a card, but Starks drew an extra card thanks to the effect of my loyal Broww. Next, Starks used Upstart Goblin to draw another card and generously give another 1000 Life Points to Isidro. Starks Set Dark World Dealings and then used Dragged Down into the Grave to get rid of Dark Hole from Isidro’s hand, and discard Beiige from his own hand. Both players drew a card, and then Starks Special Summoned Beiige returned Beiige to his hand to Special Summon another copy of me, Grapha! Next, Starks banished Stardust Dragon from his Extra Deck to Special Summon Malefic Stardust Dragon – a worthy ally of darkness. He combined Malefic Stardust Dragon with me to Xyz Summon Divine Dragon Knight Felgrand (a monster of LIGHT that I successfully convinced to join my winning army) and then activatred Dark World Dealings to draw a card and discard Beiige, which he Special Summoned. Next, Starks detached me (as an Xyz Material) from Felgrand to activate Felgrand’s effect and make Felgrand unaffected by other card effects. Next, he returned Beiige to his hand to Special Summon me back to the field from the Graveyard! I, Grapha, attacked Brotherhood of the Fire Fist – Dragon, and Isidro activated 2 copies of Tensen in the Damage Step to increase his monster’s ATK and destroy me in battle. Only with the assistance of 2 cowardly Trap Cards could I be defeated! Starks Set Eradicator Epidemic Virus before ending his turn. In his End Phase, Starks discarded his hand consisting of Beiige, Vanguard of Dark World, due to the earlier-activated Into the Void, and Special Summoned Beiige to the field with its effect.
Isidro drew a card and then Starks activated Eradicator Epidemic Virus, Tributing Grapha, Dragon Lord of Dark World to destroy all of Isidro’s Spells! Isidro lost his face-up Tenki and the Gyokkou in his hand. Isidro Summoned Brotherhood of the Fire Fist – Gorilla and used its effect. He sent Tensen to the Graveyard to try to destroy Starks’s face-down Reckless Greed, and Starks Chained it to draw Dragged Down into the Grave and Trade-In. Next, Isidro activated Fire Formation – Tenken. He combined Brotherhood of the Fire Fist – Gorilla and Brotherhood of the Fire Fist – Dragon to Xyz Summon Bujintei Kagutsuchi and activated its effect to send the top 5 cards of his Deck to his Graveyard. Kagutsuchi attacked Felgrand, and Starks used Felgrand’s effect to negate Kagutsuchi’s effect so that it lost its ATK boost, allowing it to be destroyed in battle.
Starks activated Dragged Down into the Grave and discarded Beiige before both players drew an extra card. He Special Summoned Beiige back to the field and returned it to his hand to Special Summon me back from the Graveyard! Next, Starks banished Broww from his Graveyard and discarded Beiige to draw a card with The Gates of Dark World. He Special Summoned Beiige back to the field and then attacked directly with me, Felgrand, and Beiige, dropping Isidro down to 2000 Life Points. Starks Set Gateway to Dark World before ending his turn, reinforcing his Dark World forces.
Isidro drew Coach Soldier Wolfbark next turn and Summoned it. (Here’s some advice, Coach: join the Dark World army!) He activated its effect to Special Summon Bear from his Graveyard and then combined Wolfbark with Bear to Xyz Summoned Evilswarm Exciton Knight! He activated Exciton Knight’s effect to wipe out ALL of Stark’s cards! I watched helplessly as my most powerful allies were swept into the Graveyard by a pesky Fiend of LIGHT! Isidro Set Solemn Warning face-down before ending his turn.
Starks was forced to end his turn without making a play.
Isidro Summoned Brotherhood of the Fire Fist – Dragon and attacked directly with his monsters.
Starks drew Upstart Goblin and activated it, drawing Skill Drain. He instantly conceded, unable to survive another attack from Isidro’s monsters.
Austin Starks Summons me, Grapha, Dragon Lord of Dark World over and over again, but I alone could not stand up against the entire Fire Fist force and Evilswarm Exciton Knight. In Duel 2, I hope my lesser Dark World minions pitch in so that I can carry my Dark World army to victory!
Duel Two
Starks started off Duel 2 with Skill Drain, The Gates of Dark World, Beiige, Vanguard of Dark World, Malefic Stardust Dragon, and 2 copies of Reckless Greed. It was a promising start for my Dark World army. Starks Set all of his Traps to his back row and then ended his turn.
Isidro activated Gyokkou to target Starks’s face-down Reckless Greed. Starks Chained his other face-down Reckless Greed, and then Chained the Reckless Greed that was targeted by Gyokkou to draw a total of 4 cards. It was a brilliant play that was to be expected from Dark World Duelists! Isidro Set 2 cards to his back row and Set a monster before passing.
Starks activated Upstart Goblin to draw Skill Drain and then activated The Gates of Dark World. He banished Stardust Dragon from his Extra Deck to Special Summon Malefic Stardust Dragon and then Set everything except Beiige and Dragged Down into the Grave to his back row. Starks activated Dragged Down into the Grave and discarded Wolfbark from Isidro’s hand, while he discarded his own Beiige. He Special Summoned Beiige to the field. Next, Starks activated Dark World Dealings to draw a card and discard Snoww, Unlight of Dark World. Isidro drew a card and discarded Morphing Jar #2. Starks added me, Grapha, Dragon Lord of Dark World from his Deck to his hand with the effect of his Snoww. It was a wise choice. Next, he banished Snoww from his Graveyard to discard me and draw Mystical Space Typhoon. He activated Mystical Space Typhoon next to destroy Isidro’s face-down Tenken. He returned Beiige to his hand to Special Summon me from his Graveyard, and then Set Mystical Space Typhoon before passing.
Isidro drew a card and then Starks activated Eradicator Epidemic Virus, Tributing Grapha to infect all of Starks’s Spells! Starks lost Mystical Space Typhoon from his hand and a face-up Gyokkou. Next, Isidro Flip Summoned Morphing Jar #2, but lost out on its effect when Starks flipped Skill Drain.
Starks attacked and destroyed Morphing Jar #2 with Malefic Stardust Dragon.
Isidro drew Pot of Duality next turn and lost it to Stark’s brilliantly used Eradicator Epidemic Virus.
Starks drew Dragged Down into the Grave and then attacked directly with Malefic Stardust Dragon.
Isidro drew Brotherhood of the Fire Fist – Gorilla and Set it.
Starks drew Allure of Darkness and attacked Gorilla with Malefic Stardust Dragon to destroy it.
Isidro activated Pot of Duality, revealing Gyokkou, Mystical Space Typhoon, and Brotherhood of the Fire Fist - Bear from the top of his Deck. He added Mystical Space Typhoon to his hand and shuffled the other 2 cards back into his Deck. He Set Mystical Space Typhoon before ending his turn.
Starks drew Beiige and tried to Summon it, but Isidro flipped Solemn Warning and paid 2000 Life Points to negate its Summon. Isidro conceded just moments later, aware that he was about to be torn apart by the Dark World army.
Austin Starks helps me command my Dark World army to triumph in the glorious Duel 2! Although Pedro Isidro will have the advantage of going first in Duel 3, but my Dark World army will nevertheless triumph!
Duel Three
Isidro started off Duel 3 by activating Fire Formation – Tenki and adding Coach Soldier Wolfbark from his Deck to his hand. He Summoned Bear and then Set 4 cards to his back row.
Starks opened up Duel 3 with 3 copies of Malefic Stardust Dragon, Broww, Beiige, and Snoww. It was a sad hand that didn’t even include me in it. Starks ended his turn without making a play.
Isidro attacked directly with Bear to drop Starks down to 6400 Life Points and then ended his turn.
Starks drew Mystical Space Typhoon and Set it. Isidro activated his own Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy Starks’s newly Set Mystical Space Typhoon on the End Phase.
Isidro Summoned Wolfbark to the field and then attacked directly with Wolfbark and Bear, dropping Starks down to 2900 Life Points. He Set Tenki from his Deck with Bear’s effect. He activated Tenki in Main Phase 2 and added another Wolfbark from his Deck to his hand with its effect. Isidro combined his Wolfbark with Bear to Xyz Summon Abyss Dweller before ending his turn.
Starks drew Dark World Dealings next turn! Finally, a useful Dark World Spell Card! He activated it, and Isidro Chained the effect of Abyss Dweller. Starks drew Dust Tornado and conceded, stuck with a bunch of monsters and no powerful plays.
Against all odds, Pedro Isidro defeated my Dark World army with a pack of unimpressive, fire-wielding animals!
Although defeated for now, I shall have my revenge!
