12-year-old Giovanna Calderon from Houston, Texas is Dueling against Atlanta, Georgia’s 12-year-old Sidney Jacobs in Saturday’s Dragon Duel Feature Match! Both of these Duelists are undefeated so far, but only one of them can finish the tournament with a perfect 4-0 record.

Duel One

Jacobs started off Duel 1 by Setting a monster and passing his turn.

Calderon opened up Duel 1 with Forbidden Lance, Bujingi Peacock, Bujingi Turtle, Solemn Warning, and 2 copies of Bujingi Crane. She Summoned Bujingi Turtle and then discarded Bujingi Peacock in Main Phase 2 to add Bujin Yamato from her Deck to her hand. Calderon Set Solemn Warning and Forbidden Lance before ending her turn.

Jacobs Summoned Lyla, Lightsworn Sorceress and activated its effect to destroy Calderon’s face-down Forbidden Lance. Next, he Summoned Plaguespreader Zombie and Tuned it with Lyla to try to Synchro Summon Mighty Warrior; but Calderon flipped Solemn Warning and paid 2000 Life Points to negate its Summon. Next, Jacobs put a card in his hand on top of his Deck to Special Summon Plaguespreader Zombie back from his Graveyard in Defense Position.

Calderon Summoned Bujin Yamato and then attacked Plaguespreader Zombie with Bujingi Turtle, banishing it from the Duel. Next, Yamato attacked directly, dropping Jacobs down to 6200 Life Points. Jacobs tried to negate Yamato’s effect with Effect Veiler, but Yamato’s effect activated in the End Phase after Effect Veiler wore off. Calderon added Bujingi Hare from her Deck to her hand and discarded it.

Jacobs activated Dark Hole to clear the field and then banished Effect Veiler to Special Summon Black Dragon Collapserpent; but Calderon flipped Bottomless Trap Hole to banish it from the Duel. Jacobs Set a monster before passing.

Calderon drew Bujingi Quilin and Summoned it to the field. She attacked Jacobs’s face-down Divine Dragon Apocralpyh with Yamato to destroy it, and then attacked directly with Quilin to drop Jacobs down to 4600 Life Points. In her End Phase, Calderon searched her Deck for a Bujingi Hare to add to her hand with the effect of Yamato, and discarded the Hare.

Jacobs Summoned Tour Guide From the Underworld next turn and activated its effect to Special Summon another Tour Guide from his Deck. He combined both Tour Guides to Xyz Summon Wind-Up Zenmaines in Defense Position and then banished Lyla and Apocralyph from his Graveyard to Special Summon Lightpulsar Dragon. Lightpulsar Dragon attacked Bujin Yamato, but Calderon discarded Bujingi Crane to increase her monster’s ATK and win the battle.

Calderon drew Bujingi Peacock next turn. She combined her Bujingi Quilin with Bujin Yamato to Xyz Summon Bujintei Susanowo. She detached an Xyz Material from Bujintei Susanowo to search her Deck for Bujin Yamato and add it to her hand. Next, she Summoned Yamato and banished Quilin from her Graveyard to destroy Zenmaines. Jacobs protected it by detaching an Xyz Material from Zenmaines, and when Susanowo attacked Zenmaines, Jacobs protected it once again by detaching another Xyz Material. Finally, Calderon attacked Zenmaines with Yamato and discarded Crane from her hand, wiping out Zenmaines. In Main Phase 2, Calderon added Bujin Mikazuchi from her Deck to her hand by sending Bujingi Peacock from her hand to the Graveyard. In her End Phase, she added Bujingi Quilin from her Deck to her hand and discarded it with Yamato’s effect.

Jacobs drew a card and then extended the handshake, overwhelmed by Calderon’s field. Sidney Jacobs will be going first in Duel 2!

Duel Two

Jacobs started off Duel 2 by Setting a monster.

Calderon opened up Duel 2 with Effect Veiler, Bujingi Hare, Bujingi Crane, 2 copies of Fire Formation – Tenki, and Forbidden Lance.

She activated Tenki and used its effect to add Bujin Yamato from her Deck to her hand. Next, she Summoned Bujin Yamato and Set Forbidden Lance. Calderon used Yamato’s effect in her End Phase, adding Bujin Mikazuchi from her Deck to her hand and discarding Bujingi Hare.

Jacobs Set a card to each zone and then passed his turn.

Calderon drew Bujin Mikazuchi next turn and then activated Fire Formation – Tenki to add Brotherhood of the Fire Fist - Bear from her Deck to her hand. She Summoned Bear to the field and then used its effect to send Tenki to the Graveyard and destroy Jacobs’s face-down Ryko. Calderon banished Bujingi Hare from her Graveyard to protect Yamato for the turn, and then attacked Jacobs’s face-down Plaguespreader Zombie with Yamato to destroy it. Finally, Brotherhood of the Fire Fist - Bear attacked Jacobs directly, dropping him down to 6400 Life Points and allowing Calderon to Set Fire Formation – Tenki from her Deck with Bear’s effect. In her End Phase, Calderon added Bujingi Hare from her Deck to her hand with Yamato’s effect and then discarded the Hare. Jacobs flipped Royal Decree in Calderon’s End Phase.

Jacobs Normal Summoned Hieratic Dragon of Eset and then Tributed it to Special Summon Hieratic Dragon of Su. He used Eset’s effect to Special Summon Wattaildragon from his Deck in Defense Position. Next, he combined Su with Wattaildragon to Xyz Summon Hieratic Dragon King of Atum in Attack Position, and detached Wattaildragon to Special Summon Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon from his Deck in Defense Position. He activated the effect of Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon to Special Summon Wattaildragon from his Graveyard in Defense Position, and then put a card on top of his Deck to Special Summon Plaguespreader Zombie back from his Graveyard. Next, he Tuned Plaguespreader Zombie with Wattaildragon to Synchro Summon Stardust Spark Dragon, banishing his Plaguespreader Zombie. Stardust Spark Dragon attacked Yamato, but Calderon discarded Bujingi Crane to increase her monster’s ATK and win the battle!

Calderon drew Bujingi Quilin and Summoned it. She combined Quilin with Yamato to Xyz Summon Bujintei Susanowo and then detached Quilin from Susanowo to activate its effect and add Bujingi Crane from her Deck to her hand. Calderon banished Bujingi Quilin from her Graveyard to destroy Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon and then activated another Fire Formation – Tenki. She added Yamato to her hand with its effect and then used Bear’s effect to destroy Atum by sending Tenki to the Graveyard. Direct attacks from Susanowo and Bear dropped Jacobs down to 1100 Life Points.

Jacobs Summoned Divine Dragon Apocralyph and activated its effect by discarding Night Assailant; but Calderon discarded Effect Veiler to negate its effect. Jacobs instantly offered the handshake, excited about his 3-1 finish.
