It’s the Top 16, and we’re about to witness the first ever Draft play in a YCS! We’re here with Jesse Choate, who we spoke to [here] about his Draft choices. He’s facing Sehabi Kheireddine, in the first Top 16 Draft happening at a YCS.

Duel 1

Kheireddine used Pot of Duality to reveal Krebons, Metal Reflect Slime, and Ancient Gear Knight. He took the Slime, then Normal Summoned Blackwing – Zephyros the Elite. He Set one back row card.

Choate had Half Counter, Breakthrough Skill, Truckroid, Windstorm of Etaqua, Fighting Spirit, and Fiend’s Sanctuary. He Set Truckroid and his Trap Cards.

Kheireddine Set two back row cards.

Choate drew Gene-Warped Warwolf. He Summoned it, then equipped it with Fighting Spirit. Warwolf attacked, but Forbidden Lance took it down, making it unaffected by Fighting Spirit!

Kheireddine played Blade Knight and attacked with it, bouncing off Truckroid’s 2000 DEF.

Choate drew Tanngrisnir of the Nordic Beasts and passed.

Kheireddine switched his monsters to defense position, then used Zero Gravity! Everything was in attack position now. He Set two more back row cards, then equipped Blade Knight with Big Bang Shot. Blade Knight attacked, and Choate flipped Windstorm of Etaqua.

Choate drew Treeborn Frog. He Normal Summoned Tanngrisnir, and attacked Blade Knight. Kheireddine flipped Butterflyoke, saving his monster.

Kheireddine moved his monsters back to attack position, then added Krebons to his field. Blade Knight went after Truckroid, and Choate activated Breakthrough Skill on Blade Knight, keeping it at 2000 ATK. Krebons destroyed Tanngrisnir, and Zephyros destroyed a Nordic Beast Token.

Choate drew Mecha Phantom Beast Tetherwolf and played it, getting a Mecha Phantom Beast Token. Truckroid switched to attack position. Tetherwolf used its effect to take down Blade Knight, then Chaote Set Fiend’s Sanctuary.

Kheireddine destroyed the last Token with Krebons. Zephyros attacked Truckroid, and Half Counter let Truckroid win the battle! It equipped Zephyros to itself, going up to 2600!

Choate drew Forbidden Dress. He banished Breakthrough Skill from his Graveyard to negate Krebons, then took it down with Truckroid. It equipped Krebons, then Tetherwolf attacked directly. Choate Set Dress and Treeborn Frog.

Kheireddine activated Earthquake, and all monsters switched to defense position. Next, he Special Summoned The Fiend Megacyber! He Normal Summoned Samurai of the Ice Barrier next, and entered his Battle Phase. The Fiend Megacyber attacked Truckroid, but Choate’s Forbidden Dress weakened it and Truckroid survived. Samurai destroyed Tetherwolf,  but Kheireddine had no other plays.

Choate drew Blackwing – Elphin the Raven. Truckroid destroyed The Fiend Megacyber, and attached it to itself. Kheireddine had 2200 Life Points remaining.

Kheireddine used his Samurai’s effect to draw a card, destroying it. He Set a back row card and a monster.

Choate drew Dark Magician of Chaos! He flipped Fiend’s Sanctuary, then Tributed his Metal Fiend Token and Treeborn to bring Dark Magician of Chaos onto the field! Its effect retrieved Forbidden Dress, and it banished Des Mosquito. Truckroid attacked, but was blocked by Butterspy Protection.

Kheireddine Set a card to his back row. He had two there, but nothing else.

Choate drew Pitch-Black Warwolf. Kheireddine used Metal Reflect Slime, but it was no match for Truckroid! Dark Magician of Chaos attacked directly, and this first Duel was over!

Duel 2

Kheireddine played Herald of Creation with two back row cards.

Choate started with Dark Magician of Chaos, Tardy Orc, Full-Force Strike, Vylon Prism, Magical Arm Shield, and Mecha Phantom Beast Tetherwolf. He played Tardy Orc and Set both of his back row cards.

Kheireddine played Krebons and passed.

Choate drew Gene-Warped Warwolf. He played Tetherwolf, creating a Mecha Phantom Beast Token. Tardy Orc and Tetherwolf attacked Krebons, and Kheireddine paid 1600 Life Points total to stop the attacks.

Kheireddine Normal Summoned Blackwing – Zephyros the Elite and attacked the Mecha Phantom Beast Token. Herald of Creation attacked Tetherwolf, but Magical Arm Shield redirected the attack to Krebons!

Choate drew Treeborn Frog. He Normal Summoned Vylon Prism and entered his Battle Phase. He sent Prism into Zephyros, and used Prism’s effect to equip it to Tardy Orc. Tardy Orc attacked Herald next, but Forbidden Lance turned the tide of that battle. Tetherwolf destroyed Zephyros.

Kheireddine destroyed Tetherwolf with Herald, then Normal Summoned Blade Knight.

Choate drew Half Counter. He played Gene-Warped Warwolf and destroyed Blade Knight.

Kheireddine Special Summoned Swarzschild Limit Dragon, and it attacked Warwolf. Choate used Half Counter to win that battle, leaving the Life Points at 6300 to 4900, in Choate’s favor. In Main Phase 2, he used his Herald of Creation to discard Embodiment of Apophis and return Swarzschild to his hand. Then, he bounced Herald of Creation to his hand to Special Summon Zephyros.

Choate drew Tanngrisnir of the Nordic Beasts and Normal Summoned it.Warwolf took down Zephyros, and Tanngrisnir attacked directly. Kheireddine only had 2900 left.

Kheireddine Special Summoned The Fiend Megacyber and Swarzschild! Megacyber destroyed Warwolf, and Swarzschild did not attack Tanngrisnir.

Choate drew Memory of an Adversary. He flipped up Full-Force Strike, targeting Tanngrisnir, and destroyed Megacyber. He Set Memory of an Adversary and Treeborn.

Kheireddine Normal Summoned Swallowtail Butterspy. He attacked with Swarzschild, but Memory of an Adversary banished it. Swallowtail attacked next, fruitlessly destroying Treeborn.

Choate drew Cyber Prima, turned Tanngrisnir to defense position, and passed.

Kheireddine played Little-Wingguard. Winguard and Swallowtail destroyed Tanngrisnir and a Nordic Beast Token. At the End Phase, Swarzschild went to Choate’s field.

Choate drew his second Cyber Prima. He Tributed Treeborn for a Prima, and his monsters took down Winguard and Swallowtail.

Kheireddine played Winged Rhynos and destroyed the last Token.

Choate drew Tardy Orc and revived Treeborn. Prima attacked, but Winged Rhynos was bounced to safety thanks to Metal Reflect Slime.

Kheireddine used Pot of Duality, revealing Shield & Sword, Worm Apocalypse, and Winged Sage Falcos. He chose Shield & Sword. He played it, and switched Metal Reflect Slime to attack position… not realizing it couldn’t attack! He also Normal Summoned Herald of Creation, though, and it destroyed Swarzschild. Herald discarded Winged Rhynos in Main Phase 2, returning Swarzschild to the hand.

Choate drew Mask of Weakness, then Tributed Treeborn and Cyber Prima for Dark Magician of Chaos! Choate sent the Magician to wipe out Metal Reflect Slime, along with the rest of Kheireddine’s Life Points!
