Jesse Choate went 9-2 with his Karakuri Geargia Deck in the Swiss Rounds of this weekend’s tournament and Gancedo went 10-1 with Fire Fists. Now, Choate and Gancedo are using brand new Decks against one another in a Match that will decide who advances to the Finals.

 

Gancedo has never drafted before, but Choate has lots of experience drafting Battle Pack 2: War of the Giants – Round 2. Choate’s experience drafting is likely to give him the edge in this Match. It’s time to Duel!

 

Duel One

 

Gancedo started off Duel 1 by Setting 3 cards to his back row and Summoning Dark Valkyria.

 

 

Choate opened up Duel 1 with Blustering Winds, Magical Arm Shield, Tardy Orc, Cameraclops, Mask of Weakness, and Blackwing – Elphin the Raven. He Normal Summoned Cameraclops and then activated Blustering Winds to increase the ATK and DEF of his monster. He attacked with Cameraclops and Gancedo flipped Kunai with Chain to switch Cameraclops into Defense Position and increase the ATK of his Dark Valkyria. Choate Set 2 cards to his back row before passing his turn.

 

Gancedo Normal Summoned his already face-up Valkyria and then used its effect to destroy Choate’s Cameraclops before attacking directly. He Set a card to his back before before passing.

 

Choate drew Cursed Armaments and then Normal Summoned Tardy Orc.

 

Gancedo Set a fifth card to his back row and then attacked Tardy Orc with Dark Valkyria. Choate activated Mask of Weakness, and Choate used Time Machine. Choate Special Summoned Dark Valkyria back to the field after it was destroyed in battle, and then Normal Summoned it again while it was already on the field in order to turn on its effect. He used Valkyria’s effect to destroy Gancedo’s Tardy Orc and then ended his turn.

 

Choate drew Tanngrisnir of the Nordic Beasts and Set it.

 

Gancedo Summoned Drillroid and used it to attack Choate’s face-down Tanngrisnir. Choate flipped Magical Arm Shield to take Dark Valkyria and force Drillroid to attack the Valkyria instead. Drillroid was destroyed and Gancedo Set a card to his back row before passing.

 

Choate Summoned Pitch-Black Warwolf and then equipped Dark Valkyria with Cursed Armaments. Next, Gancedo flipped Nordic Relic Brisingamen to copy the Warwolf’s ATK onto his Valkyria.

 

Gancedo Summoned Deep Sweeper and Tributed it to destroy Cursed Armaments; but when Cursed Armaments was destroyed, Choate was able to equip it back onto Dark Valkyria. Next, Gancedo attacked Tanngrisnir with his Dark Valkyria. He activated Spikeshield with Chain to increase his monster’s ATK, destroying Tanngrisnir and giving Choate 2 Nordic Beast Tokens.

 

Choate Tributed one of his Tokens to Summon Blackwing – Elphin the Raven, and Gancedo activated Memory Loss when Choate tried to use Elphin’s effect. Elphin’s effect was negated and Elphin switched into Defense Position. Choate attacked Gancedo’s face-down Big Shield Gardna with his Warwolf and lost 1000 Life Points in the battle. Big Shield Gardna switched into Attack Position.

 

Gancedo switched his monsters into Defense Position and Set a card to his back row.

 

Choate drew Tardy Orc and switched his Elphin into Attack Position. He attacked Dark Valkyria with his Warwolf to destroy it, and equipped Cursed Armaments to Big Shield Gardna.

 

Gancedo passed without making a play.

 

Choate drew Full-Force Strike. He attacked Big Shield Gardna with his Warwolf, losing 1000 Life Points, and then attacked Big Shield Gardna with Elphin to destroy it, dropping Gancedo down to 5000 Life Points.

 

Gancedo Summoned Dark Valkyria and then activated Miracle Locus. Choate drew Cyber Prima with its effect, and then Dark Valkyria attacked and destroyed Elphin and Dark Valkyria.

 

Choate drew another Pitch-Black Warwolf and then Summoned Meklord Army of Granel. He activated its effect to halve the ATK of Dark Valkyria and then attacked Dark Valkyria with Meklord Army of Granel to destroy it.

 

Gancedo Set a card to his back row and passed.

 

Choate drew Memory of an Adversary and Set it.

 

Gancedo Summoned Toon Gemini Elf and passed.

 

Choate drew Windstorm of Etaqua. He activated Full-Force Strike, targeting his Nordic Beast Token, and Gancedo immediately conceded.

Duel Two

 

Gancedo Summoned Beast King Barbaros and Set a card to his back row.

 

Choate opened up Duel 2 with Evilswarm Mandragora, Blackwing – Elphin the Raven, Meklord Army of Granel, Dark Magician of Chaos, Breakthrough Skill, and Gene-Warped Warwolf. He Summoned his Warwolf and attacked Beast King Barbaros to destroy it. He Set Breakthrough Skill and then passed.

 

 

Gancedo Summoned Zombyra the Dark and attacked Gene-Warped Warwolf to destroy it. Zombyra’s ATK dropped by 200.

 

Choate Summoned Meklord Army of Granel and tried to halve the ATK of Zombyra; but Gancedo Chained Memory Loss to negate the effect of Granel and switch Granel into Defense Position!

 

Gancedo activated Graceful Charity next turn to draw 3 cards and discard 2 cards. Next, he Summoned Dark Valkyria. He attacked Granel with Zombyra to destroy it and then attacked directly with Dark Valkyria. Gancedo Set 3 cards to his back row before passing.

 

Choate Special Summoned Mandragora from his hand and then Tributed it to Summon Blackwing – Elphin the Raven. He activated its effect to switch Dark Valkyria into Defense Position and then attacked Dark Valkyria. Gancedo activated Butterflyoke to switch Elphin into Defense Position.

 

Gancedo attacked Elphin with Zombyra to destroy it and then attacked directly with Dark Valkyria. He Normal Summoned Dark Valkyria again in Main Phase 2 to turn on its effect.

 

Choate Summoned Tardy Orc and then equipped it with Reptilianne Rage.

 

Gancedo tried to destroy Tardy Orc with Valkyria’s effect, but Choate flipped Breakthrough Skill to negate its effect! Gancedo activated Full-Force Strike next, and attacked Elphin with Zombyra to destroy Elphin. Dark Valkyria attacked directly next.

 

Choate Set a back row and passed.

 

Gancedo Set a back row and attacked directly with Dark Valkyria.

 

Choate drew Cyber Prima and passed.

 

Gancedo attacked directly with Valkyria once again and Set a card to his back row before ending his turn.

 

Choate Set a back row and passed.

 

Gancedo attacked directly with Dark Valkyria, and Choate flipped Memory of an Adversary; but Gancedo flipped Forbidden Chalice to increase his monster’s ATK. The 400 ATK increase was enough to make it so that when Choate lost Life Points to the effect of Memory of an Adversary, he lost the Duel.

Duel 3

 

Choate started off Duel 3 with Mask of Weakness, Fiend’s Sanctuary, Tardy Orc, Truckroid, Jurrac Gallim, and Pitch-Black Warwolf in his hand. He Summoned Tardy Orc and then Set 2 cards to his back row.

 

Gancedo Summoned Dark Valkyria and equipped it with Reptilianne Rage. He Set 3 cards to his back row before passing.

 

Choate drew Share the Pain and then Set a monster. He activated Share the Pain, Tributing his Truckroid and forcing Gancedo to Tribute Dark Valkyria. Tardy Orc was weakened by Reptilianne Rage and attacked directly for 1400 points of damage.

 

Gancedo Summoned Zombyra the Dark and attacked Tardy Orc with it. Choate flipped Mask of Weakness to try to weaken Zombyra, but Gancedo flipped Spikeshield with Chain to increase his monster’s ATK. Zombyra destroyed Tardy Orc in battle and then play passed to Choate.

 

Choate drew Vylon Prism and Set a monster.

 

Gancedo Summoned Gilasaurus and then attacked Choate’s face-down Jurrac Gallim with Zombyra. Gancedo discarded a card from his hand due to Gallim’s effect. Gilasaurus didn’t attack.

 

Choate Set a back row and passed.

 

Gancedo attacked directly with Gilasaurus and passed.

 

Choate Summoned Pitch Black Warwolf and equipped it with Reptilianne Rage. He attacked Zombyra with his 2400 ATK Warwolf to destroy Zombyra and then passed his turn.

 

Gancedo Set a card to each zone and switched Gilasaurus to Defense Position.

 

Choate drew Blustering Winds and Summoned Vylon Prism. Prism attacked Gilasaurus and then Warwolf attacked Big Shield Gardna, costing him 200 Life Points. Big Shield Gardna survived the attack and switched into Attack Position.

 

Gancedo flipped Nordic Relic Brisingamen to copy the ATK of Warwolf onto his Big Shield Gardna and then flipped Miracle Locus to increase its ATK further. Big Shield Gardna attacked and destroyed both of Choate’s monsters.

 

Choate Set a monster and passed his turn.

 

Gancedo switched his Big Shield Gardna into Defense Position and Set a back row.

 

Choate drew Breakthrough Skill and then activated Fiend’s Sanctuary to Special Summon a Metal Fiend Token to the field. He Tributed Yomi Ship and his Metal Fiend Token to Summon Dark Magician of Chaos to the field and Gancedo flipped Memory Loss to negate Dark Magician of Chaos’s effect and switch Dark Magician of Chaos into Defense Position.

 

Gancedo Summoned Deep Sweeper and Tributed it to destroy Choate’s face-down Breakthrough Skill.

 

Choate drew Windstorm of Etaqua and attacked Big Shield Gardna with Dark Magician of Chaos; but Gancedo flipped Butterflyoke to switch Dark Magician of Chaos into Defense Position.

 

Gancedo passed.

 

Choate tried to attack with Dark Magician of Chaos, but his monster was switched into Defense Position by Butterflyoke.

 

Gancedo Set a back row.

 

Choate Summoned Mecha Phantom Beast Tetherwolf and Special Summoned a Mecha Phantom Beast Token in Defense Position with its effect.

 

Gancedo Tributed Big Shield Gardna to Summon Big-Tusked Mammoth. He attacked Choate’s Token to destroy it and then ended his turn.

 

Choate drew Berserk Gorilla and Summoned it. He activated Blustering Winds next, increasing the ATK and DEF of Tetherwolf by 1000. Tetherwolf attacked the Mammoth to destroy it, and Gancedo flipped Time Machine to Special Summon it back to the field. When Dark Magician of Chaos tried to attack, Gancedo switched it back into Defense Position with his Butterflyoke. Choate activated Cursed Armaments to weaken the Mammoth before ending his turn.

 

Gancedo activated Different Dimension Gate to banish his own Mammoth along with Choate’s Gorilla. He Set a back row before passing.

 

Choate drew Cyber Prima. He attacked directly with Tetherwolf and then passed his turn.

 

Gancedo Set a back row and Set a monster.

 

Choate drew Tardy Orc and Summoned it.

 

Gancedo Set a back row.

 

Choate drew Treeborn Frog. He tried attacking with his Tardy Orc, and Gancedo flipped Needle Ceiling to destroy all 3 of Choate’s face-up monsters!

 

Gancedo Flip Summoned Dark Valkyria and then Summoned Steamroid. He attacked directly with Steamroid and Dark Valkyria, dropping Choate down to 2300 Life Points.

 

Choate drew Pitch-Black Warwolf and then Summoned Treeborn Frog. He activated Pineapple Blast to destroy Valkyria and then passed his turn.

 

Gancedo attacked with Steamroid, but Choate flipped Windstorm of Etaqua to change the battle position of all of Gancedo’s monsters. Gancedo Summoned Toon Gemini Elf in Main Phase 2 and then passed his turn.

 

Choate Tributed Treeborn Frog to Summon Cyber Prima. Different Dimension Gate was destroyed, and Berserk Gorilla and Big-Tusked Mammoth were returned to the field. Berserk Gorilla attacked and destroyed Steamroid and Choate Set a card to his back row before ending his turn.

 

Gancedo Tributed both of his monsters to Summon Chaos Hunter and then declared an attack against Cyber Prima. Choate lost 100 Life Points and his monster was destroyed.

 

Choate drew Cameraclops and then Summoned Pitch-Black Warwolf. He attacked Chaos Hunter with his Gorilla and flipped Forbidden Dress; but Gancedo flipped Forbidden Chalice to win the battle!

 

Gancedo Summoned Drillroid on his next turn, and attacked with Drillroid and Chaos Hunter to wipe out Choate’s Pitch-Black Warwolf and his last 1800 Life Points.
