Round 10 Feature Match: Thomas Mak Versus Jeremy Lozano
Bujins have had a strong presence at the top tables this weekend, but seem to have been underrepresented in Feature Matches. We’re going to try to rectify that this round, as we Feature Match one of the many Bujin Decks still in contention for a Top 32 finish. Thomas Mak currently hold a 7-2 record with his Bujin Deck, which utilizes the combined synergies of the Bujin, Bujingi, and Bujintei monsters. His opponent this round, Jeremy Lozano, has a 7-2 record with Mermails. A victory in this round will bring one of these Duelists closer to a Top 32 finish, while a loss is likely to make it impossible for one of these Duelists to advance to the elimination rounds. It’s time to Duel!
Duel One
Mak opened up Duel 1 with Bujincarnation, Fiendish Chain, Bujingi Turtle, Bujin Yamato, Upstart Goblin, and Book of Moon. He activated Upstart Goblin to draw Bottomless Trap Hole and give Lozano 1000 Life Points. He Summoned Yamato and Set Bottomless Trap Hole, Book of Moon, and Fiendish Chain before entering his End Phase. In his End Phase, he used Yamato’s effect to add Bujingi Hare to his hand and discard it.
Lozano Set a monster and 3 cards to his back row.
Mak drew Forbidden Lance. Lozano flipped Abyss-sphere to Special Summon Mermail Abysslinde from his Deck in Defense Position, and Mak attacked Lozano’s face-down Mermail Abyssturge with Yamato to destroy it. In the End Phase, Mak activated the effect of his Yamato, and Lozano flipped Divine Wrath, discarding Tidal, Dragon Ruler of Waterfalls to negate the effect of Yamato and destroy it. Abyss-sphere was sent to the Graveyard next, and Mermail Abysslinde went to the Graveyard with it. Lozano Special Summoned Mermail Abysspike from his Deck with the effect of Mermail Abysslinde and activated its effect by discarding Atlantean Marksman. Mak negated the effect of Abysspike with Fiendish Chain, and Marksman destroyed Mak’s face-down Book of Moon with its effect.

Mak activated Bujincarnation to Special Summon his banished Bujingi Hare and the Bujin Mikazuchi in his Graveyard. He combined both of his monsters to Xyz Summon Bujintei Susanowo and then detached an Xyz Material from Susanowo to add Bujingi Crane from his Deck to his hand. He attacked Evilswarm Exciton Knight with Bujintei Susanowo. Since Lozano had as many cards on his field as Mak had on his field and in his hand combined, he was unable to use his Exciton Knight’s effect. Mak discarded Bujingi Crane from his hand to double his Susanowo’s ATK, wiping out Lozano’s last 2300 Life Points in the battle!
