Local Chicago Duelist Gabriel Andrade lost his first 2 rounds of the tournament, but kept his spirits high. He won the next 8 rounds with his Ghostrick Madolche Deck, and is now one win away from a Top 32 finish! Andrade’s opponent, Toronto’s Rob Chung, lost rounds 1 and 3 of the tournament; but like Andrade, he never lost hope – he won the rest of the rounds with his Bujin Deck, and like Andrade, is one victory away from making it to the elimination rounds. Both of these Duelists have made it far in this weekend’s YCS tournament, but only one of them can make it to the Top 32. It’s time to Duel!

 

Duel One

 

Chung started off Duel 1 by activating Upstart Goblin to draw a card and give Andrade 1000 Life Points. He activated Fire Formation – Tenki next, adding Bujin Yamato to his hand. He Summoned Yamato and then activated Pot of Duality, revealing Bujingi Turtle, Tenki, and Forbidden Lance from the top of his Deck. He added Forbidden Lance to his hand and then Set 3 cards to his back row. In his End Phase, he used the effect of Bujin Yamato to add Bujingi Hare from his Deck to his hand and then discard it to his Graveyard.

 

 

Andrade started off Duel 1 with Ghostrick Mary, Compulsory Evacuation Device, Madolche Hootcake, Madolche Mewfeuille, Mystical Space Typhoon and Mistake. He Set Compulsory Evacuation Device, Mystical Space Typhoon, and Mistake, and then passed his turn.

 

Chung attacked directly with Yamato, and Andrade flipped Compulsory Evacuation Device; but Andrade Chained Forbidden Lance to make Yamato immune. After taking damage, Andrade discarded Mary from his hand to Special Summon Ghostrick Jiangshi from his Deck face-down. In the End Phase, Andrade flipped Mistake to stop Bujin Yamato’s effect.

 

Andrade Summoned Madolche Hootcake next turn, and Chung flipped Torrential Tribute to clear the field. Chung Chained the effect of the Hare in his Graveyard to banish it and protect Yamato.

 

Chung activated Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy Mistake and then attacked directly with Yamato. Andrade tried to Special Summon Ghostrick Jackfrost from his hand to block the attack, but Andrade flipped Solemn Warning to negate its Summon! Yamato’s direct attack went through, and Chung searched his Deck for a Bujingi Hare to add to his hand with the effect of Yamato in the End Phase. He discarded it with Yamato’s effect.

 

Andrade Summoned Mewfeuille and used its effect to Special Summon Hootcake from his hand. He banished Jiangshi from his Graveyard to Special Summon Madolche Messengelato from his Deck with Hootcake’s effect, and then used Messengelato’s effect to add Madolche Chateau from his Deck to his hand. Next, he combined Mewfeuille with Hootcake to Xyz Summon M-X-Saber Invoker and then detached Hootcake from Invoker to activate Invoker’s effect and Special Summon Messengelato from his Deck. Next, he combined both Messengelatos to Xyz Summon Madolche Queen Tiaramisu! He detached an Xyz Material from Tiaramisu to target the Hootcake and Messengelato in his Graveyard and return the Yamato and Tenki on Chung’s field to his Deck. Andrade added Hootcake and Messengelato to his hand thanks to Madolche Chateau and Chung shuffled the Yamato and Tenki into his Deck. Andrade attacked directly with Invoker and Tiaramisu, dropping Chung down to 1700 Life Points.

 

Chung conceded on his next turn, devastated by Andrade’s previous play with Tiaramisu.

Duel Two

 

Chung started off Duel 2.

 

 

He activated Pot of Duality, revealing Maxx “C”, Bujingi Hare, and Royal Decree from the top of his Deck. He added Royal Decree to his hand and shuffled the other 2 cards back into his Deck. Next, he Normal Summoned Bujingi Turtle. He Set 2 cards to his back row before ending his turn.

 

Andrade opened up with Madolchepalooza, Torrential Tribute, Mirror Force, Trap Stun, Madolche Messengelato, and Madolche Hootcake.

 

 

He Summoned Messengelato and Set Madolchepalooze, Torrential Tribute, Mirror Force, and Trap Stun before ending his turn. Chung flipped Royal Decree in his End Phase!

 

 

Chung activated Fire Formation – Tenki and added Bujin Yamato from his Deck to his hand. He Summoned it to the field and then combined Yamato with Turtle to Xyz Summon Bujintei Susanowo. He detached Turtle from Susanowo to send Bujingi Hare from his Deck to his Graveyard and then attacked Madolche Messengelato to destroy it. Andrade shuffled Messengelato into his Deck with its effect.

 

Andrade drew Ghostrick Jiangshi and Set it.

 

Chung detached another Xyz Material from Susanowo and added Yamato from his Deck to his hand. He Summoned it to the field and then attacked Andrade’s face-down Jiangshi with Susanowo. Andrade added Ghostrick Mary to his hand with Jiangshi’s effect. Next, Yamato attacked directly and Andrade discarded Mary from his hand to Special Summon Jiangshi from his Deck face-down. Susanowo attacked it again, this time allowing Andrade to add Ghostrick Jackfrost from his Deck to his hand with Jiangshi’s effect. In his End Phase, Chung added Bujingi Turtle from his Deck to his hand with the effect of Yamato and discarded it.

 

Andrade Summoned Madolche Hootcake next turn. He activated its effect, and Chung discarded Effect Veiler from his hand to negate it.

 

Chung activated Upstart Goblin to give Andrade 1000 Life Points and draw a card. Next, he activated Fire Formation – Tenki to add Bujin Mikazuchi from his Deck to his hand. He Summoned Mikazuchi to the field and then attacked Madolche Hootcake with Susanowo to destroy it. Andrade shuffled Hootcake into his Deck. Mikazuchi attacked next, and Andrade Special Summoned Jackfrost to put it face-down. Susanowo attacked Jackfrost to destroy it. Next Yamato attacked directly, and Andrade Special Summoned another Jackfrost to put Yamato face-down. Susanowo then attacked and destroyed Jackfrost again.

 

Andrade drew Madolche Hootcake next turn. He Summoned it to the field and activated its effect, and Chung Chained Maxx “C”. Andrade banished Jiangshi from his Graveyard to Special Summon Messengelato from his Deck. Chung drew a card from the effect of Maxx “C”, and Andrade added Madolche Chateau from his Deck to his hand with Messengelato’s effect. He activated the Chateau and then attacked Chung’s face-down Yamato with Hootcake to destroy it. Messengelato attacked and destroyed the face-down Mikazuchi next.

 

Chung flipped his face-down Twister and paid 500 Life Points to destroy Chateau. Next, he attacked Hootcake and Messengelato with Susanowo, destroying both monsters and causing Andrade to shuffle them back into his Deck. Chung Set a card to his back row before ending his turn.

 

Andrade drew another Madolche Hootcake next turn and Summoned it! He banished Jiangshi from his Graveyard to Special Summon Messengelato from his Deck and added Madolche Ticket from his Deck to his hand with Messengelato’s effect. He activated Ticket and then ended his turn.

 

Chung activated Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy Ticket and then attacked and destroyed both of Andrade’s monsters with Susanowo. A direct attack from Mikazuchi finished Andrade off!

 

 

Rob Chung wins Duel 2 after shutting down Andrade’s back rows with Royal Decree! Andrade will be going first in Duel 3!

 

Duel Three

 

Andrade opened up Duel 3 with Dark Hole, Mystical Space Typhoon, Madolche Hootcake, Ghostrick Jiangshi, Madolche Chateau, and Divine Wrath.

 

 

He Set Jiangshi and Divine Wrath before ending his turn.

 

Chung Summoned Yamato, activated Kaiser Colosseum, and Set a card to his back row. He opted not to use the effect of Yamato in his End Phase.

 

Andrade Flip Summoned Jiangshi to add Ghostrick Mary to his hand and then activated Dark Hole to clear the field! Chung tried to Special Summon Mikazuchi from his hand, but Andrade flipped Divine Wrath and discarded Mary to negate Mikazuchi’s effect and destroy it. Next, Andrade activated Madolche Chateau. He Summoned Hootcake and activated its effect. He banished Jiangshi from his Graveyard to Special Summon Messengelato from his Deck. He used Messengelato’s effect to add Madolche Ticket from his Deck to his hand, and then activated the Ticket. He attacked directly with Hootcake, and Chung flipped Twister, paying 500 Life Points to destroy Chateau. Hootcake and Messengelato scored direct attacks, dropping Chung down to 4400 Life Points. Andrade Set 2 cards to his back row before ending his turn.

 

Chung activated Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy Andrade’s face-down Madolchepalooza and then Summoned Bujin Yamato. He used Yamato to attack Hootcake, which was returned to the Deck and then added to Andrade’s hand with Ticket. Chung added Mikazuchi to his hand with Yamato and then discarded Hare in the End Phase.

 

Andrade activated Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy Kaiser Colosseum and then activated Hootcake’s effect. He banished Mary from his Graveyard to Special Summon Mewfeuille and then combined Hootcake and Mewfeuille to Special Summon M-X-Saber Invoker. Next, he detached Hootcake from Invoker to Special Summon Messengelato with Invoker’s effect, and combined both Messengelatos to Xyz Summon Madolche Queen Tiaramisu. He detached Messengelato from Tiaramisu and returned Hootcake and Chateau from his Graveyard to his Deck. He shuffled Yamato back into Chung’s Deck. With a face-up Fairy (Tiaramisu) on the field, he Special Summoned Madolche Hootcake from his Deck thanks to the effect Madolche Ticket! Direct attacks from Hootcake, Tiaramisu, and M-X-Saber Invoker finished Chung off!
