Seattle, Washington’s Tatsuaki Yajima went 10-1 in the Swiss Rounds of the YCS this weekend with his Prophecy Deck – a Deck that we have not yet seen in action in a Feature Match this weekend. Now he’s facing off against Toronto, Canada’s Kareem O’Brien, who piloted his Geargia Deck to a 9-2 record. Both Duelists’ life in the tournament is on the line in this Top 32 Feature Match, as only the victor will advance to the Top 16. It’s time to Duel!

Duel One

O’Brien Summoned Geargiarsenal and Tributed it to Special Summon Geargiarmor from his Deck. He activated Upstart Goblin next, drawing a card and giving Yajima 1000 Life Points. He used his Geargiarmor’s effect to flip it face-down and then Set a card to his back row.

Yajima opened up with Spellbook of Secrets, Compulsory Evacuation Device, Spellbook Magician of Prophecy, The Grand Spellbook Tower, Spellbook of Fate, and Spellbook of Power. He Summoned Spellbook Magician of Prophecy and activated its effect; but O’Brien flipped Fiendish Chain to negate its effect! Yajima activated Spellbook of Secrets next, adding Spellbook of the Master from his Deck to his hand. He activated Spellbook of the Master, revealing The Grand Spellbook Tower and copying Spellbook of Secrets. He added Spellbook of Eternity from his Deck to his hand with its effect. Next, he activated The Grand Spellbook Tower and Set Compulsory Evacuation Device and Spellbook of Fate.

O’Brien Flip Summoned Geargiarmor and activated its effect to add Geargiano Mk-II to his hand. He Summoned it to the field and then activated its effect to Special Summon Geargiarsenal from his Graveyard. He Tributed Geargiarsenal to Special Summon Geargiano from his Deck in Defense Position and then combined Geargiano and Geargiano Mk-II to Xyz Summon Soul of Silvermountain; but Yajima flipped Compulsory Evacuation Device to return it to O’Brien’s Extra Deck! Next, O’Brien attacked Spellbook Magician of Prophecy with Geargiarmor. Yajima flipped Spellbook of Fate and banished Spellbook of the Master and Spellbook of Secrets from his Graveyard to put his Magician face-down. Geargiarmor attacked and destroyed the Magician, allowing Yajima to add Spellbook of Wisdom from his Deck to his hand with his Magician’s effect when his Magician flipped face-up.

Yajima drew Spellbook Magician of Prophecy next turn and then returned a Spellbook from his Graveyard to his Deck to draw Justice of Prophecy with the effect of The Grand Spellbook Tower. Next, he Summoned Spellbook Magician of Prophecy and activated its effect. O’Brien tried to negate its effect with Fiendish Chain, and when Yajima Chained Spellbook of Wisdom to make Spellbook Magician of Prophecy immune to Traps, O’Brien negated the Magician’s effect with Effect Veiler! Yajima activated Spellbook of Eternity to grab Spellbook of the Master. Then he activated Spellbook of the Master by revealing Spellbook of Power to copy Spellbook of Eternity and add Spellbook of Secrets from his banished zone to his hand. He activated Spellbook of Secrets to add Spellbook of Fate from his Deck to his hand and then activated Spellbook of Fate by banishing Spellbook of Wisdom, Spellbook of the Master, and Spellbook of Secrets to banish O’Brien’s face-down Geargiarmor. Spellbook Magician of Prophecy attacked directly, dropping O’Brien down to 7500 Life Points.

O’Brien Summoned Geargiarsenal and attacked Spellbook Magician of Prophecy with it, destroying the Magician and dropping Yajima down to 7800 Life Points. Next, O’Brien Tributed Geargiarsenal to Special Summon another Geargiarmor from his Deck. He Special Summoned Geargiaccelerator next, and combined it with Geargiarmor to Xyz Summon Gear Gigant X. He detached Geargiaccelerator to add Geargiano Mk-II from his Graveyard to his hand with the effect of Gear Gigant X. O’Brien Set a card to his back row before passing his turn.

Yajima drew Solemn Warning next turn and then sent a Spellbook from his Graveyard to his Deck to draw Spellbook of Eternity with the effect of The Grand Spellbook Tower. He activated Spellbook of Eternity to add Spellbook of Secrets to his hand and then activated Spellbook of Secrets to add Spellbook of Wisdom from his Deck to his hand. Next, he Summoned Justice of Prophecy. He activated Spellbook of Power to increase its ATK by 1000 and then attacked Gear Gigant X. O’Brien flipped Dimensional Prison to try to banish it, but Yajima Chained Spellbook of Wisdom to make it immune to Traps. Justice destroyed Gear Gigant X in battle, and Yajima added Spellbook of Fate to his hand from his Deck thanks to Spellbook of Power. O’Brien Special Summoned Geargiano from his Graveyard with the effect of Gear Gigant X. Yajima activated Spellbook of Fate next, banishing Spellbook of Power, Spellbook of Wisdom, and Spellbook of Secrets from his Graveyard to banish Geargiano. Yajima Set Solemn Warning and then banished Justice of Prophecy in his End Phase to add Spellbook of Secrets and High Priestess of Prophecy from his Deck to his hand.

O’Brien tried to Summon Geargiano, but Yajima flipped Solemn Warning and paid 2000 Life Points to negate its Summon!

Yajima drew Justice of Prophecy and then returned Spellbook of Fate to his Deck with The Grand Spellbook Tower to draw Spellbook of Life. He Summoned Justice of Prophecy and then activated Spellbook of Secrets, prompting O’Brien to concede.

He Set 5 cards to his back row and ended his turn.

Yajima started off Duel 2 with Solemn Warning, Spellbook of Eternity, Justice of Prophecy, Fiendish Chain, Spellbook of Power, and The Grand Spellbook Tower.

He Summoned Justice of Prophecy, activated The Grand Spellbook Tower, and then Set Fiendish Chain and Solemn Warning. He entered his End Phase, and O’Brien flipped 2 copies of Dust Tornado to destroy Yajima’s Fiendish Chain and Solemn Warning. Yajima banished Justice of Prophecy to add High Priestess of Prophecy and Spellbook of Secrets from his Deck to his hand with his Justice of Prophecy’s effect.

O’Brien Set a card to his back row and passed his turn.

Yajima drew Temperance of Prophecy and Summoned it, prompting O’Brien to flip DNA Surgery, transforming all monsters into Machines. Next, Yajima activated Spellbook of Secrets to add Spellbook of Wisdom from his Deck to his hand. Next, he Tributed Temperance to Special Summon High Priestess of Prophecy from his Deck, and banished Spellbook of Secrets from his Graveyard to destroy DNA Surgery with the effect of High Priestess of Prophecy. He attacked directly with High Priestess of Prophecy and then ended his turn.

O’Brien activated Upstart Goblin to draw a card and give Yajima 1000 Life Points. He Summoned Geargiarmor next, and then Special Summoned Geargiarsenal. He combined Geargiarmor with Geargiarsenal to Xyz Summon Number 101: Silent Honor ARK and then detached both Xyz Materials from it to attach Yajima’s High Priestess of Prophecy to it as an Xyz Material.

Yajima drew Spellbook of the Master next turn. He revealed Spellbook of Power, Spellbook of Eternity, and Spellbook of Wisdom from his hand to Special Summon High Priestess of Prophecy and O’Brien flipped DNA Surgery to turn all monsters into Machines. Next, Yajima activated Spellbook of Eternity to add Spellbook of Secrets to his hand. He banished Spellbook of Eternity from his Graveyard to destroy DNA Surgery with High Priestess of Prophecy once again, and then activated Spellbook of Secrets to add Spellbook of Fate from his Deck to his hand. Next, he activated Spellbook of the Master by revealing Spellbook of Fate, copying the effect of Spellbook of Secrets. Yajima added Spellbook Magician of Prophecy from his Deck to his hand. Yajima attacked Number 101: Silent Honor ARK with High Priestess of Prophecy, and O’Brien protected it by giving up an Xyz Material. Yajima Set 2 cards to his back row before passing.

Yajima drew a card and then tried to use the effect of The Grand Spellbook Tower to draw an extra card; but O’Brien flipped Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy the Tower. Next, Yajima banished The Grand Spellbook Tower from his Graveyard to destroy O’Brien’s face-down Mistake with the effect of High Priestess of Prophecy. He activated Spellbook of Power next, increasing the ATK of High Priestess of Prophecy. He attacked and destroyed Number 101: Silent Honor ARK with High Priestess of Prophecy, dropping O’Brien down to 3700 Life Points. He added Spellbook of Secrets to his hand thanks to the effect of Spellbook of Power. Next, he activated Spellbook of Secrets to add Spellbook of the Master to his hand. He activated Spellbook of the Master to copy Spellbook of Secrets and add The Grand Spellbook Tower from his Deck to his hand. He activated The Grand Spellbook Tower next, and Set Book of Moon before ending his turn.

O’Brien drew Geargiarsenal and Summoned it; but when Yajima flipped Spellbook of Fate to banish it, O’Brien instantly offered the handshake!
