Welcome to Day 2! These are the top ranked Duelists from Saturday, moving on for the final two rounds of Swiss play. We’ve got Anthony Eckroth, from Salt Lake City, up against Alejandro Galindo from Long Beach, CA. Eckroth’s brought along a Geargia Deck today, while Galindo is packing Fire Kings. Geargia tend to focus on constantly gaining cards, while Fire Kings simply blow cards up. This should be interesting!

Duel 1

Galindo started things off with Fire Formation – Tenki, grabbing Coach Soldier Wolfbark. He Summoned Fire King Avatar Yaksha next, and Set a back row card.

Eckroth’s Sunday starting hand was Geargiano, Solemn Warning, Call of the Haunted, Book of Moon, Upstart Goblin, and Geargiaccelerator. Upstart gave him Fiendish Chain, boosting Galindo’s Life Points. He Set all of his Spell and Trap Cards, then Set Geargiano.

Galindo Normal Summoned Brotherhood of the Fire Fist - Bear. He sent Tenki to the Graveyard, and Eckroth flipped his Fiendish Chain to negate Bear. Yaksha took out Geargiano in battle.

Eckroth drew Geargiano Mk-II! He played it to bring back Geargiano, so he could Xyz Summon Ghostrick Alucard. He activated its effect to destroy Galindo’s Set Starlight Road, then destroyed Bear in battle.

Galindo crashed Yaksha into Alucard, destroying both monsters. Yaksha’s effect destroyed the Fire King High Avatar Garunix in Galindo’s hand, then he Set one back row card.

Eckroth drew Geargiano Mk-II, then negated Garunix’s effect in the Graveyard with Solemn Warning. He played Geargiano Mk-II to revive Geargiano yet again, and Xyz Summoned Wind-Up Zenmaines. He attacked, and Galindo used Mirror Force! Zenmaines detached an Xyz Material to survive. In the End Phase, it had to destroy a card, so it picked itself and lost its other Xyz Material.

Galindo played Onslaught of the Fire Kings! He Special Summoned Fire King High Avatar Garunix from his Deck and attacked Zenmaines. Garunix was destroyed by Onslaught.

Eckroth drew Geargiarsenal, and Garunix returned to the field in defense position. He played Geargiarsenal and Geargiaccelerator, and used them to Xyz Summon Gear Gigant X. That gave him a new Geargiaccelerator. He played Call of the Haunted to revive the Geargiarsenal he’d detached, and Tributed it to bring Geargiarmor to the field. He Special Summoned Geargiaccelerator and Xyz Summoned Abyss Dweller! He activated its effect, then destroyed Garunix in battle with Gear Gigant X. Garunix couldn’t activate, and Abyss Dweller attacked directly.

Galindo played a second Onslaught next turn, bringing a new Garunix to the field. He played Wolfbark next, reviving Yaksha. Those he stacked for Bujintei Kagutsuchi, sending five Spell and Trap Cards from his Deck to his Graveyard. Kagutsuchi attacked Abyss Dweller, and Book of Moon flipped it face-down. Garunix attacked Abyss Dweller next, wiping it out. At the End Phase, Garunix was destroyed by Onslaught.

Eckroth drew Upstart Goblin, and Garunix returned to the field, destroying everything. Gear Gigant X revived Geargiano, then Upstart gave Eckroth Mirror Force. Geargiano revived Geargiaccelerator.

Galindo Normal Summoned Thunder King Rai-Oh, and Eckroth flipped his Mirror Force to destroy Galindo’s monsters.

Eckroth drew Geargiaccelerator, and Garunix returned in defense position to destroy the Geargiaccelerator on the field. That let Eckroth get back Geargiano Mk-II, and he played it to revive Geargiano. He Special Summoned Geargiaccelerator, then Xyz Summoned Soul of Silvermountain. It destroyed Garunix in battle, and both monsters activated. Galindo got Yaksha to the field, while Eckroth got Geargiarmor. In Main Phase 2, Eckroth stacked Geargiarmor and Geargiaccelerator for Number 101: Silent Honor ARK, and it ate up Yaksha!

Galindo had Rekindling, but only had Yaksha to revive. He Normal Summoned Brotherhood of the Fire Fist – Boar, and Xyz Summoned Brotherhood of the Fire Fist – Tiger King. That let him get Fire Formation – Tensu from his Deck, then used Tiger King to negate Eckroth’s monsters. Tensu then let him Normal Summon Brotherhood of the Fire Fist - Bear! Bear destroyed Silent Honor ARK, Tiger King destroyed Soul of Silvermountain, and Bear hit directly. That let him grab Fire Formation – Tenki from his Deck, and he played it in Main Phase 2 to get Fire King Avatar Yaksha. When Eckroth drew Torrential Tribute next turn, he conceded!

Duel 2

Eckroth started off this time with Geargiarsenal, Geargiagear, Geargiaccelerator, Fiendish Chain, and 2 Mystical Space Typhoons. He played Geargiarsenal to bring Geargiano to the field, which immediately was Tributed to return Geargiarsenal to the field. He Special Summoned Geargiaccelerator and Xyz Summoned Gear Gigant X. He detached Geargiaccelerator  to activate Gear Gigant X’s effect, returning the same Geargiaccelerator from his Graveyard to his hand.

Galindo played Fire King Avatar Barong and Set five back row cards.

Eckroth drew Fiendish Chain. He used Gear Gigant X to get Geargiano Mk-II, and played it to revive Geargiano. He stacked them for Wind-Up Zenmaines, and Galindo played Torrential Tribute, then Chained Skill Drain. Eckroth Chained Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy Skill Drain, then all monsters but Zenmaines were destroyed. Gear Gigant X’s effect brought Geargiano back to the field, and Eckroth Tributed it to bring back Geargiarsenal. He Special Summoned Geargiaccelerator and brought forth another Gear Gigant X, this time losing it to Solemn Warning. Eckroth Set Typhoon and Chain, then Zenmaines destroyed Galindo’s Mirror Force in the End Phase. Eckroth had a nearly full field, while Galindo had just one card left!

Galindo used Barong to get Onslaught of the Fire Kings, and played it to bring Fire King High Avatar Garunix to the field. Then he passed, letting Garunix be destroyed.

Eckroth drew Geargiagear, and Garunix returned to the field. Zenmaines detached an Xyz Material to live through the effect, then went to defense position. In the End Phase, it destroyed Galindo’s Trap Stun.

Garunix destroyed Zenmaines in battle, and Galindo had no other plays.

Eckroth flipped Geargiagear in the End Phase, bringing two Geargiano Mk-II to the field with their Levels increased.

Eckroth drew Bottomless Trap Hole. He Xyz Summoned Number 101: Silent Honor ARK, and attached Garunix to it. Silent Honor ARK attacked directly, and he Set Bottomless Trap Hole.

Galindo played Thunder King Rai-Oh, and Eckroth allowed it. Galindo Set Forbidden Lance, losing it to Eckroth’s Mystical Space Typhoon in the End Phase.

Eckroth drew Upstart Goblin, and that gave him a new Mystical Space Typhoon. He Set it after Silent Honor ARK destroyed Rai-Oh.

Galindo played Coach Soldier Wolfbark, but had its effect negated by Fiendish Chain!

Eckroth drew Torrential Tribute, and Wolfbark fell in battle to Silent Honor ARK. He Set Torrential Tribute to finish.

Galindo had Fire Formation – Tenki, and Eckroth chose not to use Mystical Space Typhoon on it. Galindo got Brotherhood of the Fire Fist - Bear, then played Dark Hole. Silent Honor ARK detached its Xyz Material to survive. When Galindo played Bear, it fell into Bottomless Trap Hole.

Eckroth drew Geargiarsenal, and used it with Silent Honor ARK to take out Galindo’s remaining 3200 Life Points!

Anthony Eckroth has evened the score! It all comes down to this final Duel!

Duel 3

Galindo began the final Duel with Fire Formation – Tenki, for Fire King Avatar Barong. He played Pot of Duality next, revealing Fire King Avatar Yaksha, Mirror Force, and Circle of the Fire Kings. He took Mirror Force. He played out Barong and Set two back row cards.

Eckroth’s hand was Geargiaccelerator, Geargiarmor, Dimensional Fissure, Geargiarsenal, Debunk, and Dark Hole. He began with Geargiarsenal, and Galindo played Torrential Tribute. Eckroth played Dimensional Fissure next, then Set Debunk.

When Galindo activated Barong, it was negated and banished by Debunk. Galindo used Fire Formation – Tenki to search out Brotherhood of the Fire Fist - Bear and attacked with it. Its effect brought another Tenki to the field face-down, then he Set another card.

Eckroth drew Seven Tools of the Bandit. He played Geargiarmor and Geargiaccelerator so he could throw down Evilswarm Exciton Knight! It destroyed everything, including Galindo’s Set Mirror Force and Bottomless Trap Hole! “You didn’t Bottomless because you have an Onslaught,” Eckroth observed, remembering Onslaught of the Fire Kings’s activation requirement. He Set Seven Tools.

Galindo did indeed have Onslaught, and Special Summoned Fire King High Avatar Garunix, right as time in the round was called! Garunix destroyed Exciton Knight in battle, and Galindo Set a card to his back row. Garunix was destroyed by Onslaught in the End Phase, to return in the Standby Phase.

Eckroth drew Book of Moon and Set it.

Galindo attacked with Garunix. Eckroth played Book of Moon to try to block the attack, but Galindo used Circle of the Fire Kings to swap Garunix with Brotherhood of the Fire Fist - Bear! It attacked instead, and brought Fire Formation – Tensu to the field. He Set one more card.

Eckroth drew Call of the Haunted, and Garunix returned the field, destroying Bear. Eckroth Set Call of the Haunted and Dark Hole.

Galindo attacked with Garunix again, leaving Eckroth with only 1100 Life Points. Another Circle of the Fire Kings let him tag in Bear, but Bear’s attack was blocked by Call of the Haunted! Eckroth revived Geargiaccelerator just to stay in the game. Bear destroyed it in battle, and Eckroth used its effect to get Geargiarsenal. Next turn he drew Mirror Force, and had no way to deal 7100 damage in the time limit!
