Welcome to Round 6! We’re with renowned Duelist Robert Boyajian, here from San Diego. He’s using a unique Deck packing Ghostricks and Spirit monsters! He’s up against Los Angeles Duelist Albert Vinageras, who is using Fire Kings today.

Duel 1

Vinageras led with Fire Formation – Tenki for Fire King Avatar Barong. He Set two back row cards and passed.

Boyajian had Ghostrick Mary, Nikitama, Solemn Warning, Fiendish Chain, and Ghostrick Specter. He drew Mystical Space Typhoon and Set it with his Trap Cards.

Vinageras played Fire King Avatar Barong and attacked, and Boyajian used Ghostrick Mary to Special Summon Ghostrick Jiangshi face-down. Vinageras Set a back row card.

Boyajian drew Black Horn of Heaven. He flipped up Jiangshi, Vinageras used Fiendish Chain, and Boyajian destroyed it with Mystical Space Typhoon. Jiangshi searched out Ghostrick Mary, then he flipped it face-down. He Set the Black Horn.

Barong destroyed Jiangshi, which searched out Specter. When Jiangshi went down, Boyajian Special Summoned Specter to draw Dark Hole.

Boyajian drew Pot of Dichotomy. He flipped up Specter, then Normal Summoned Ghostrick Mary. He Xyz Summoned Ghostrick Dullahan, and used its effect on Barong. Dullahan attacked Barong, then used its effect to cut Barong in half.

Vinageras played Onslaught of the Fire Kings, and Boyajian negated it with Solemn Warning.

Boyajian drew Kagetokage. He attacked with Dullahan.

Vinageras used another Onslaught of the Fire Kings next turn, bringing Fire King High Avatar Garunix to the field! It attacked, and Boyajian used Dullahan’s effect to take less damage. When Dullahan was destroyed, Boyajian used Dullahan’s effect and Ghostrick Specter from his hand. He added Ghostrick Mary to his hand, and drew Nikitama. Vinageras used Call of the Haunted to revive Barong, and it destroyed Specter in battle. Fire King High Avatar Garunix was destroyed in the End Phase, since it was Summoned by Onslaught.

Boyajian drew Allure of Darkness. Garunix returned in the Standby Phase, and destroyed Barong. Boyajian used Allure to draw Nikitama and Mystical Space Typhoon, and banished Ghostrick Mary. Next, he Normal Summoned Nikitama, then Normal Summoned another Nikitama, and activated Kagetokage. He Xyz Summoned Number 101: Silent Honor ARK and sucked up Garunix, and Nikitama’s effect let him draw Mind Control. At the End Phase, Nikitama returned to the hand.

Vinageras used Barong’s effect to add Onslaught of the Fire Kings to his hand, and played it. Another Garunix hit the field. Vinageras played Coach Soldier Wolfbark next, reviving Fire King Avatar Barong. He stacked Wolfbark and Barong for his own Silent Honor ARK, but lost it to Boyajian’s Black Horn of Heaven. Garunix attacked, and Boyajian’s Silent Honor ARK survived with its effect. Vinageras Set one card, and Garunix was destroyed due to Onslaught. Boyajian destroyed the newly Set Circle of the Fire Kings with Mystical Space Typhoon.

Boyajian drew Dark Armed Dragon. He activated Pot of Dichotomy, returning Kagetokage, Ghostrick Mary, and Ghostrick Jiangshi. He drew Fiendish Chain and Seven Tools of the Bandit. Now he could Special Summon Dark Armed Dragon! He banished Ghostrick Specter to destroy Call of the Haunted, and Vinageras Chained it to revive Barong so it would be destroyed. Dark Armed Dragon destroyed Mystical Space Typhoon, which in turn destroyed Boyajian’s Fiendish Chain. Boyajian Normal Summoned two copies of Nikitama for a new Silent Honor ARK, which ate up Garunix. Boyajian Set Fiendish Chain and Seven Tools, unable to attack after playing Pot of Dichotomy.

Vinageras activated his Barong’s effect to add Fire King Avatar Yaksha to his hand. He Normal Summoned it and attacked Silent Honor ARK. When Yaksha was destroyed, it destroyed the Fire King High Avatar Garunix in Vinageras’s hand. He Set two back row cards.

Boyajian drew Kagetokage. Garunix revived itself, Boyajian used Fiendish Chain, and Vinageras used Forbidden Lance! All other monsters were destroyed. Silent Honor ARK destroyed the weakened Garunix in battle, and Vinageras Summoned the weaker form of it, Fire King Avatar Garunix, from his Deck.

Vinageras used Fire Formation – Tenki to add Brotherhood of the Fire Fist - Bear to his hand. He played it, using a Tenki up to destroy Silent Honor ARK. Bear attacked directly to Set another Tenki on the field. Boyajian had 1650 Life Points remaining, while Vinageras had 3250.

Boyajian drew Creeping Darkness, and played it to add Aratama to his hand. He shook his head as he activated Dark Hole, and Fire King Avatar Garunix Special Summoned Fire King Avatar Yaksha from the Deck. Boyajian played Aratama and Kagetokage, then stole Yaksha with Mind Control. He combined Yaksha and Aratama for King of the Feral Imps, then negated Vinageras’s Bottomless Trap Hole with Seven Tools. Kagetokage and King of the Feral Imps attacked directly, ending this incredible first Duel!

Both Duelists moved over to their Side Decks, with only eighteen minutes remaining in the round. That first Duel had been nonstop action, but there was so much going on that it lasted over half the round!

Duel 2

Vinageras led with Fire Formation – Tenki to get Brotherhood of the Fire Fist - Bear. He Set a back row card.

Boyajian had Kagetokage, Ghostrick Specter, Ghostrick Mary, Mystical Space Typhoon, Creeping Darkness, and Nikitama. He Set Mystical Space Typhoon.

Vinageras played Bear and attacked. Its effect activated, and Boyajian used Ghostrick Mary from his hand, to Special Summon Ghostrick Jiangshi. Bear Set a Tenki to the field. He activated it, but lost it to Mystical Space Typhoon. Bear used Tenki to destroy Jiangshi, and Boyajian used Ghostrick Specter to draw Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning.

Boyajian drew Ghostrick Jiangshi, then played Creeping Darkness to get Aratama. He played Nikitama, and it was negated by Fiendish Chain. Nikitama’s extra Normal Summon isn’t an effect that can be negated once it’s been successfully Summoned, so Boyajian also Normal Summoned Aratama and activated Kagetokage, and Vinageras Chained Book of Moon to turn Aratama face-down. Aratama’s effect added Nikitama to Boyajian’s hand. Boyajian stacked Nikitama and Kagetokage for King of the Feral Imps, and it added another Kagetokage to his hand. Boyajian Flip Summoned Ghostrick Specter. King of the Feral Imps destroyed Brotherhood of the Fire Fist - Bear in battle, Specter attacked, and then Specter went face-down, and Boyajian Set Ghostrick Jiangshi.

Vinageras used Onslaught of the Fire Kings to bring Fire King High Avatar Garunix to the field. It destroyed King of the Feral Imps in battle, and Vinageras Set one back row card. Garunix was destroyed.

Boyajian drew Debunk. Garunix returned to the field in defense position and wiped away Boyajian’s monsters. Boyajian banished Nikitama and Kagetokage to Special Summon Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning, and it tried to banish Garunix – but Vinageras had Imperial Iron Wall! Boyajian Set Debunk and Jiangshi.

Vinageras used Typhoon to destroy Debunk, then switched Garunix to attack position. Fire King Avatar Yaksha came next, and it attacked Black Luster Soldier, destroying the Fire King High Avatar Garunix in his hand. Garunix attacked the Set Jiangshi, which searched out Specter. When Jiangshi was destroyed, Specter gave Boyajian Pot of Dichotomy.

Boyajian drew Kagetokage, and Garunix returned yet again, in defense position. It wiped away every monster, including the other Garunix, giving Vinageras the dreaded double Garunix lock! Boyajian used Pot of Dichotomy to draw Creeping Darkness and Nikitama.

Garunix returned and destroyed the other one, then attacked directly. Boyajian used Ghostrick Mary, but when he saw his next draw he knew he couldn’t get through the double Garunix setup!

Vinageras has evened the score! Can his destructive effects overpower Boyajian once again?

Duel 3

Boyajian began the final Duel Ghostrick Mary, 2 Nikitama, Creeping Darkness, Pot of Dichotomy, and Jiangshi. He Set Jiangshi.

Vinageras used Dark Hole to take it out, and attacked with Fire King Avatar Yaksha. Ghostrick Mary brought a new Ghostrick Jiangshi to the field, and Vinageras passed.

Boyajian drew Kagetokage, then flipped Jiangshi for Ghostrick Specter. He played Creeping Darkness next for Aratama, and time was called in the round. Boyajian had 6200 Life Points, while Vinageras had 8000. He Normal Summoned Nikitama and Aratama, and Special Summoned Kagetokage. Aratama’s effect added Nikitama to his hand. He stacked Kagetokage and Nikitama for King of the Feral Imps, detaching Nikitama to add Kagetokage to his hand, and Nikitama gave him Fiendish Chain. King of the Feral Imps destroyed Yaksha, which destroyed Barong from the hand. Aratama and Jiangshi attacked directly. Jianshi went face-down, Boyajian Set Fiendish Chain, and Aratama returned to the hand.

Vinageras got Onslaught of the Fire Kings with Barong’s effect, and it Special Summoned Fire King High Avatar Garunix. He played Coach Soldier Wolfbark and used its effect, Boyajian Chained Fiendish Chain, but Vinageras Chained Circle of the Fire Kings! Wolfbark was replaced by Yaksha, and Barong was Special Summoned. Vinageras Xyz Summoned Photon Papilloperative,and it moved Jiangshi to attack position, triggering its effect to give Boyajian a Ghostrick Specter. Papilloperative destroyed Jiangshi, and Specter gave Boyajian another Kagetokage. Garunix destroyed King of the Feral Imps, and Vinageras Set a back row card. Garunix was destroyed by Onslaught. Boyajian had 3700 Life Points now, while Vinageras had 6300.

Boyajian drew Mind Control. Garunix came back in defense position, and when Jiangshi was destroyed, Boyajian Special Summoned Ghostrick Specter to draw Mystical Space Typhoon. He played that to wipe out Forbidden Lance. He played Nikitama next, then Aratama and Kagetokage. He stacked Nikitama and Kagetokage for Lavalval Chain, placing Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning on the top of his Deck. Nikitama triggered, and he drew the same Black Luster Soldier! He Special Summoned it, and it banished Garunix! Aratama and Lavalval Chain attacked directly, leaving the game tied at 3700 Life Points! Aratama returned to the hand at the End Phase.

Vinageras Set a monster and a back row card.

Boyajian drew Dust Tornado, and Vinageras immediately flipped Rivalry of Warlords. Boyajian sent Lavalval Chain to the Graveyard so he only controlled Warriors. He played Mind Control to steal the Set Bear and attacked with Black Luster Soldier, then Set everything he could to his back row. Vinageras had only 700 Life Points remaining on his last turn, and couldn’t make a comeback!
