13-year-old Marco Ruiz from Costa Rica took third place in last year’s Dragon Duel World Championship in Las Vegas, Nevada. Now he’s 2-0 in this year’s Dragon Duel, competing to return to the World Championship. But 11-year-old local Duelist Daniel Coronel Contreras from Guadalajara also holds a 2-0 record, and dreams big of making it to the World Championship in Italy. Marco Ruiz and Daniel Coronel Contreras are about to face off in a Match that will virtually guarantee one of these Duelists a spot in the Top 4 of the Dragons Duels. It’s time to Duel!

Duel One

Coronel Contreras opened up Duel 1 with Honest, Bujin Arasuda, Bujin Mikazuchi, Bujingi Quilin, Forbidden Dress, and Bottomless Trap Hole. He Set Quilin and passed his turn.

Ruiz activated Upstart Goblin to draw a card and give Coronel Contreras 1000 Life Points. He Summoned Geargiarsenal, but lost it to Bottomless Trap Hole. He Set 2 cards to his back row before passing.

Coronel Contreras drew Bujingi Hare and Summoned it. He Flip Summoned Quilin next, and attacked directly with Quilin and Hare to drop Ruiz down to 4700 Life Points. Ruiz activated Geargiagear in Coronel Contreras’s End Phase, Special Summoning 2 copies of Geargiano Mk-II from his Deck in Defense Position.

Ruiz combined his two Geargianos to Xyz Summon Gear Gigant X and then detached an Xyz Material from it to add Geargiaccelerator from his Deck to his hand. Next, he Normal Summoned Geargiano Mk-II. He activated its effect to Special Summon another Geargiano Mk-II from his Graveyard and combined both Geargianos to Xyz Summon Ghostrick Alucard. He detached an Xyz Material from Alucard to destroy Coronel Contreras’s face-down Forbidden Dress, and then attacked Bujingi Hare with Alucard to destroy it. Next, Gear Gigant X attacked Quilin; but Coronel Contreras discarded Honest from his hand to increase his monster’s ATK and win the battle! Ruiz Special Summoned Geargiano Mk-II from his Graveyard in Defense Position with the effect of Gear Gigant X when Gear Gigant X was destroyed.

Coronel Contreras drew Bujin Yamato next turn. He Summoned it to the field and then attacked Geargiano Mk-II with Quilin to destroy it. Yamato attacked Alucard next, but Ruiz flipped Book of Moon to put Yamato face-down.

Ruiz detached an Xyz Material from Alucard to destroy Coronel Contreras’s face-down Yamato and then Normal Summoned Geargiano. He attacked Quilin with Alucard to destroy it, and then attacked directly with Geargiano.

Coronel Contreras drew Bujingi Hare next turn. He Summoned Mikazuchi and then banished Quilin from his Graveyard to destroy Alucard. Next, he attacked Geargiano with Mikazuchi to destroy it and drop Ruiz down to 1700 Life Points.

Ruiz Set a monster and Set 2 cards to his back row.

Coronel Contreras drew Book of Moon next turn. He Summoned Bujingi Hare and then combined his Hare with his Mikazuchi to try to Xyz Summon Bujintei Susanowo; but Ruiz flipped Black Horn of Heaven to negate its Summon! Coronel Contreras Set Book of Moon before ending his turn.

Ruiz Summoned Geargiaccelerator and attacked directly with it. He Set a card to each zone before passing his turn.

Coronel Contreras Summoned Bujin Arasuda next turn. He attacked Geargiaccelerator with Bujin Arasuda, and then discarded Bujingi Crane from his hand during the Damage Step to double Arasuda’s ATK! Arasuda’s 3200 ATK annihilated Geargiaccelerator and its 1400 ATK, wiping out Ruiz’s last 1700 Life Points!

Duel Two

Ruiz started off Duel 2 by activating Upstart Goblin to draw a card and give Coronel Contreras 1000 Life Points. He Summoned Banisher of the Radiance next, and Set 4 cards to his back row.

Coronel Contreras opened up with Mystical Space Typhoon, Bujingi Centipede, Flying “C”, Kaiser Colosseum, Bujin Yamato, and Royal Decree. He activated Mystical Space Typhoon to banish Ruiz’s Fiendish Chain from the Duel and then Summoned his Centipede to the field; but Ruiz flipped Bottomless Trap Hole to banish the Centipede. Coronel Contreras Set Royal Decree before ending his turn, and Ruiz flipped Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy the Decree in the End Phase. Next, Ruiz activated Geargiagear to Special Summon Geargiano and Geargiano Mk-II from his Deck in Defense Position, and Coronel Contreras Special Summoned Flying “C” to Ruiz’s field!

Ruiz switched all of his monsters into Attack Position, Summoned Geargiaccelerator, and then attacked directly with all 5 of his monsters.

Coronel Contreras Summoned Bujin Yamato and attacked Banisher of the Radiance to destroy it. Next, he activated Kaiser Colosseum. In his End Phase, he added Bujingi Hare from his Deck to his hand with Yamato’s effect and discarded it.

Ruiz switched all of his monsters into Defense Position and then Set a card to his back row.

Coronel Contreras drew Solemn Warning. He attacked Geargiano Mk-II to destroy it with Yamato and then Set Solemn Warning. In his End Phase, he added Bujingi Crane from his Deck to his hand with Yamato’s effect and discarded Bujingi Quilin.

Ruiz attacked Bujin Yamato with Flying “C” to finally destroy his Flying “C” so that he could Xyz Summon again. He lost 1100 Life Points from the attack, dropping himself down to 6700 Life Points. Next, he combined his 2 remaining monsters to Xyz Summon Number 101: Silent Honor ARK.

Coronel Contreras drew a card and then Ruiz discarded Ally of Justice Cycle Reader to banish Quilin and Hare from Coronel Contreras’s Graveyard. Coronel Contreras Chained Hare’s effect to protect his Yamato once during the turn. Next, Yamato attacked Number 101: Silent Honor ARK, and Coronel Contreras discarded Crane from his hand to double his monster’s ATK. Number 101: Silent Honor ARK gave up an Xyz Material to protect itself, and Coronel Contreras added Bujingi Hare from his Deck to his hand and discarded it with Yamato’s effect in the End Phase.

Ruiz attacked Yamato with Number 101: Silent Honor ARK, and Coronel Contreras banished Hare from his Graveyard to protect his Yamato.

Coronel Contreras drew Bujingi Turtle next turn. He Summoned it to the field and then combined it with Yamato to try to Xyz Summon Constellar Omega; but Ruiz flipped Solemn Warning and paid 2000 Life Points to negate its Summon!

Ruiz activated Upstart Goblin to draw a card and give Coronel Contreras 1000 Life Points. Next, he tried to Summon Geargiarsenal; but Coronel Contreras flipped Solemn Warning and gave up 2000 Life Points to negate its Summon. Number 101: Silent Honor ARK attacked directly, and Ruiz Set a back row before passing.

Coronel Contreras drew a monster and Set it.

Ruiz flipped Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy Coronel Contreras’s Kaiser Colosseum and then Summoned Geargiarmor. He Special Summoned Geargiaccelerator next, and combined Geargiarmor with Geargiaccelerator to Xyz Summon Number 82: Heartlandraco. Next, Ruiz detached an Xyz Material from Heartlandraco, allowing it to attack directly. One direct attack later, Coronel Contreras dropped from 1400 Life Points down to 0.

Duel Three

Coronel Contreras opened up with Fire Formation – Tenki, Bujin Yamato, Royal Decree, Bujincarnation, Fiendish Chain, and Mystical Space Typhoon. He activated Tenki to add Bujin Mikazuchi from his Deck to his hand. Next, he Summoned Yamato and Set 3 cards to his back row. He added Bujingi Hare from his Deck to his hand and discarded it with Yamato’s effect in the End Phase.

Ruiz Set a monster and Set 2 cards to his back row. Finally, he activated Dimensional Fissure. In Ruiz’s End Phase, Coronel Contreras flipped Royal Decree to pin down Ruiz’s Trap Cards. Then, he flipped Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy Ruiz’s Dimensional Fissure!

Coronel Contreras drew another Mystical Space Typhoon next turn. He Summoned Mikazuchi to the field and then attacked Ruiz’s face-down monster with Mikazuchi. Geargiarmor flipped face-up, and Ruiz added Geargiaccelerator from his Deck to his hand with its effect. Geargiarmor was destroyed in battle by the 2000 ATK Mikazuchi, and then Yamato attacked directly. Coronel Contreras Set Mystical Space Typhoon and then entered his End Phase, activating the effect of his Yamato. Ruiz Chained Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy Royal Decree, and Chained Macro Cosmos. Coronel Contreras added Bujin Arasuda from his Deck to his hand and banished it with Yamato’s effect.

Ruiz Summoned Geargiano Mk-II and activated its effect. Coronel Contreras Chained Fiendish Chain to try to negate it; but Ruiz Chained Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy the Fiendish Chain. Ruiz Special Summoned Geargiarmor from his Graveyard in Defense Position with the effect of Geargiano Mk-II. Next, Ruiz Special Summoned Geargiaccelerator from his hand in Defense Position. He combined Geargiaccelerator with Geargiarmor to Xyz Summon Evilswarm Exciton Knight and then detached an Xyz Material from Evilswarm Exciton Knight to activate its effect. Coronel Contreras Chained the effect of his Bujingi Hare by banishing it from his Graveyard to protect Mikazuchi.

Coronel Contreras attacked Evilswarm Exciton Knight, but Ruiz activated the Knight’s effect to destroy Mikazuchi. Next, Coronel Contreras activated Bujincarnation. He Special Summoned Bujin Yamato and Bujingi Hare to the field and combined them to Xyz Summon Bujintei Susanowo. Next, he detached an Xyz Material from Susanowo to send Bujingi Turtle from his Deck to his Graveyard. He Set Vanity’s Emptiness before ending his turn.

Ruiz switched his Evilswarm Exciton Knight to Defense Position and passed.

Coronel Contreras activated the effect of Susanowo to add Yamato to his hand and Summon it to the field. He attacked Evilswarm Exciton Knight with Yamato and attacked directly with Susanowo. Finally, he Set Royal Decree and entered his End Phase. In his End Phase, he added Bujingi Turtle from his Deck to his hand and discarded it with Yamato’s effect.

Ruiz Set a monster and Set a card to his back row. Coronel Contreras flipped Royal Decree in the End Phase, shutting down Ruiz’s Trap Cards.

Coronel Contreras attacked Ruiz’s face-down Banisher of the Radiance with Susanowo to destroy it and then attacked directly with Yamato.

Ruiz conceded on his next turn, unable to overcome Coronel Contreras’s field.
