WCQ – CA: Round 1 Feature Match: Galileo Obaldia vs. Adrian Garcia
Galileo Obaldia from Panama is Dueling against Adrian Garcia from Ciudad Victoria Tamaulipas in our first Feature Match of the weekend! Obaldia was the Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME World Champion in 2010, earning himself an invitation to the 2011 World Championship. In 2011, Obaldia took third place at the World Championship. Now he’s back, looking to compete in yet another World Championship. Obaldia is hoping that his Lightsworn Deck, powered up by cards in the new Realm of Light Structure Deck, will get him the victory; but Adrian Garcia is looking to stand in his way with Madolches. It’s time to Duel!
Duel One
Obaldia opened up Duel 1 with Honest, Judgment Dragon, Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter, Lumina, Lightsworn Summoner, Needlebug Nest, and Gorz the Emissary of Darkness. He Set Ryko and Needlebug Nest before ending his turn.
Garcia activated Madolche Ticket and then Summoned Madolche Messengelato. He attacked Ryko with Messengelato and Ryko flipped face-up. Ryko’s effect destroyed the Ticket and sent Lyla, Kuriboh, and Garoth, Lightsworn Warrior from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard. Garcia Set 3 back rows before ending his turn, and Obaldia activated Needlebug Nest in his End Phase to send Soul Charge, Rainbow Kuriboh, Lightray Diabolos, Redox, Dragon Ruler of Boulders, and Raiden, Hand of the Lightsworn from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard.
Obaldia drew Soul Charge next turn! He Summoned Judgment Dragon and Garcia flipped Torrential Tribute to clear the field! Next, Obaldia Summoned Lumina, Lightsworn Summoner. He discarded Gorz from his hand to try to Special Summon Raiden from his Graveyard, but Garcia flipped Breakthrough Skill and negated Lumina’s effect. Next, Obaldia activated Soul Charge! He Special Summoned Lyla, Raiden, and Garoth from his Graveyard and gave up 3000 Life Points. Next, he activated Lyla’s effect to destroy Garcia’s face-down Trap Stun and switch Lyla into Defense Position. Next, Obaldia sent Wulf, Lightsworn Beast and Blaster, Dragon Ruler of Infernos from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard with Raiden’s effect. Then Garoth’s effect activated to send Lightray Diabolos and Needlebug Nest to the Graveyard. Obaldia combined Lyla with Wulf to Xyz Summon Lavalval Chain in Attack Position and detached Lyla from it to send Eclipse Wyvern from his Deck to his Graveyard with Lavalval Chain’s effect. Then, he used his Wyvern’s effect to banish Judgment Dragon from his Deck. In his End Phase, Obaldia sent 2 cards from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard with Raiden, and then sent Eclipse Wyvern and Lyla from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard with Garoth. He drew a card with the effect of Garoth and banished another Judgment Dragon from his Deck with the effect of his Wyvern.
Garcia Summoned Madolche Hootcake and activated its effect. He banished Messengelato from his Graveyard to Special Summon Madolche Anjelly from his Deck in Attack Position. Next, he Tributed Anjelly to Special Summon Madolche Mewfeuille from his Deck and combined his Hootcake with Mewfeuille to Xyz Summon Mechquipped Angineer! Angineer attacked, but Obaldia negated its attack by banishing Necro Gardna from the Graveyard.
Obaldia drew Rainbow Kuriboh next turn. He combined Garoth with Raiden to Xyz Summon Number 101: Silent Honor ARK, and Garcia activated his Angineer’s effect to switch it to Defense Position. Next, Obaldia discarded a card to activate Lumina’s effect and Special Summon Raiden from his Graveyard. He Tuned Lumina with Raiden to Synchro Summon Michael, the Arch-Lightsworn! He paid 1000 Life Points to banish Angineer with Michael’s effect, and then banished both Wyverns from his Graveyard to Special Summon Blaster. The Wyverns’ effects activated, and Obaldia added 2 copies of Judgment Dragon from his banished zone to his hand. Finally, he Special Summoned Judgment Dragon and attacked directly with his army of Lightsworn monsters to take a dominating victory!

Duel Two
Garcia started off Duel 2 by Setting 3 cards to his back row.
Galileo Obaldia Set Royal Decree and Mystical Space Typhoon before ending his turn.
Garcia Summoned Madolche Mewfeuille and activated its effect to Special Summon Madolche Hootcake from his hand. Next, he activated Madolche Chateau. He attacked directly with Mewfeuille and Hootcake, dropping Obaldia down to 5000 Life Points. Garcia Set a card to his back row before ending his turn, and Obaldia flipped Royal Decree in his End Phase!
Obaldia drew a card, leaving himself with Tempest, Dragon Ruler of Storms, Garoth, Lightsworn Warrior, Lightray Diabolos, Rainbow Kuriboh, and Blaster, Dragon Ruler of Infernos. He Summoned Garoth and then attacked Hootcake. He activated Mystical Space Typhoon before the battle concluded, in order to destroy Chateau and take down Hootcake in battle. Hootcake shuffled back into Garcia’s Deck.
Garcia switched Mewfeuille to Defense Position and ended his turn, flooded with Trap Cards that would all be negated by Royal Decree.
Obaldia drew Judgment Dragon and attacked Mewfeuille with Garoth, destroying it and forcing it to shuffle back into Garcia’s Deck.
Garcia Summoned Madolche Anjelly next turn! He Tributed it to Special Summon Madolche Hootcake from his Deck and then banished Anjelly from his Graveyard to activate Hootcake’s effect. He Special Summoned Messengelato from his Deck with Hootcake’s effect and used Messengelato’s effect to add Madolche Chateau from his Deck to his hand. Next, he activated Chateau. Hootcake, with its 2000 ATK, attacked and destroyed Garoth, and then Messengelato attacked directly, dropping Obaldia down to 2750 Life Points.
Obaldia drew Solar Recharge next turn. He banished Tempest and Lightray Diabolos from his hand to Special Summon Blaster from his hand and then attacked Messengelato with Blaster to destroy it.
Garcia Set a monster and then shuffled Hootcake back into his Deck in the End Phase due to Anjelly’s effect. Blaster returned from Obaldia’s field to his hand in the End Phase.
Obaldia drew Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter next turn! He discarded it to activate Solar Recharge and drew Soul Charge and Minerva, Lightsworn Maiden from the top of his Deck. He sent Kuribandit and Judgment Dragon from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard with the rest of Solar Recharge’s effect. Obaldia activated Soul Charge next, giving up 1000 Life Points to Special Summon Garoth from his Graveyard. Then, he Normal Summoned Minerva, Lightsworn Maiden. He Tuned Minerva with Garoth to Synchro Summon Michael, the Arch-Lightsworn and then paid 1000 Life Points to banish Madolche Chateau with Michael’s effect. Next, he banished 2 copies of Judgment Dragon from his hand to Special Summon Blaster, Dragon Ruler of Infernos, and combined Blaster with Michael to Xyz Summon Mecha Phantom Beast Dracossack! He detached an Xyz Material from Dracossack to Special Summon 2 Mecha Phantom Beast Tokens, and Tributed one of them to destroy Garcia’s face-down Messengelato. Garcia shuffled Messengelato back into his Deck.
Garcia Summoned Messengelato and then activated Madolche Ticket. He attacked the remaining Mecha Phantom Beast Token to destroy it and then passed.
Obaldia drew Charge of the Light Brigade! He activated it to send Raiden, Soul Charge, and D.D. Crow from his Deck to his Graveyard and add Lumina from his Deck to his hand. He detached an Xyz Material from Dracossack to Special Summon 2 more Mecha Phantom Beast Tokens to the field and Tributed one of them to destroy Madolche Ticket with Dracossack’s effect. Next, he Summoned Lumina and activated its effect to discard Rainbow Kuriboh from his hand and Special Summon Raiden from his Graveyard. He sent Ryko and Eclipse Wyvern from his Deck to his Graveyard with Raiden’s effect and then used his Wyvern’s effect to banish Judgment Dragon from his Deck. He Tuned Lumina with Raiden to Synchro Summon Arcanite Magician with 2 Spell Counters in Defense Position next, and then removed a Spell Counter to destroy Messengelato and shuffle it into Garcia’s Deck. Next, he removed another Spell Counter from Arcanite Magician to destroy Garcia’s face-down Torrential Tribute.
Garcia drew a card and passed his turn.
Obaldia banished Eclipse Wyvern and Michael from his Graveyard to Special Summon Blaster back to the field, and used Eclipse Wyvern’s effect to add Judgment Dragon to his hand. He switched Dracossack and Arcanite Magician into Attack Position, Special Summoned Judgment Dragon, and then attacked directly with all of his monsters to end the Duel, and the Match!
Obaldia is moving on 1-0 in the tournament with his Lightsworn Deck!
