Collin Paolacci from Ohio and Christopher Nelson from Maryland are no longer in contention for a Day 2 finish. But that’s not going to stop them from playing the final round in Day 1 of the World Championship Qualifier! Both of them have never entered a YCS or a WCQ before, and they want to make their first WCQ experience last for as long as possible. They’re here to play the Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME, and that’s what they’ll do! Now they’re battling it out to the end in this Round 9 Feature Match! It’s time to Duel!

Duel One

 

Paolacci opened up Duel 1 with Call of the Haunted, Infernity Necromancer, Archfiend Heiress, Instant Fusion, Soul Charge, and Infernity Archfiend. He Summoned Infernity Archfiend and then activated Instant Fusion! He paid 1000 Life Points to Special Summon Darkfire Dragon from his Extra Deck and then combined Darkfire Dragon with Infernity Archfiend to Xyz Summon Lavalval Chain. Next, he detached an Xyz Material from his Chain to send Stygian Street Patrol from his Deck to his Graveyard. He Set Call of the Haunted before ending his turn.

Paolacci drew Mystical Space Typhoon next turn. He detached an Xyz Material from his Lavalval Chain to send Stygian Street Patrol from his Deck to his Graveyard and then Summoned Archfiend Heiress to the field. He attacked Nelson’s face-down Bujingi Turtle with Lavalval Chain to destroy it and then attacked directly with Archfiend Heiress. He Set Mystical Space Typhoon to his back row before ending his turn.

 

Nelson Summon Bujingi Hare. He banished Bujingi Turtle from his Graveyard to Special Summon Bujin Hirume from his hand and then combined the Hare with Hirume to Xyz Summon Bujintei Susanowo! Next, he detached Bujingi Hare from Susanowo to activate Susanowo’s effect and send Bujingi Quilin from his Deck to his Graveyard. Next, he attacked Lavalval Chain with Susanowo to destroy it, and then attacked Archfiend Heiress with Susanowo. Paolacci added Archfiend Palabyrinth from his Deck to his hand with the effect of his Heiress.

 

Paolacci drew Bottomless Trap Hole next turn and Set it. Next, he activated Palabyrinth and Summoned Infernity Necromancer. He activated Necromancer’s effect to switch it into Defense Position and then used its effect to Special Summon Infernity Archfiend from his Graveyard in Attack Position. With no hand, he activated his Archfiend’s effect to add another Infernity Archfiend from his Deck to his hand, and then banished Stygian Street Patrol from his Graveyard to Special Summon the Infernity Archfiend in his hand. He activated its effect to add Infernity Necromancer from his Deck to his hand and combined both copies of Infernity Archfiend to Xyz Summon Number 101: Silent Honor ARK! He activated Number 101’s effect by detaching both Xyz Materials from it, and attached Nelson’s Susanowo to Number 101 as an Xyz Material. Next, he banished a Stygian Street Patrol from his Graveyard to Special Summon Infernity Necromancer from his hand. He activated its effect to Special Summon Infernity Archfiend from his Graveyard, and added Infernity Barrier from his Deck to his hand with Archfiend’s effect. Nelson flipped Forbidden Lance, targeting Infernity Archfiend, and then Chained Full House! He targeted his own Lance along with Paolacci’s Palabyrinth and 3 of Paolacci’s back rows. Paolacci Chained Mystical Space Typhoon to target Nelson’s face-down Wiretap, and then tried Chaining his own Call of the Haunted; but Nelson flipped Wiretap to negate Call of the Haunted and shuffle it back into Paolacci’s Deck. Full House eventually resolved, but it was no help – Paolacci combined his two Necromancers to Xyz Summon Leviair the Sea Dragon and then detached an Xyz Material from it to Special Summon Stygian Street Patrol from his Banished Zone in Attack Position. Direct attacks from Stygian Street Patrol, Number 101: Silent Honor ARK, Leviair the Sea Dragon, and Infernity Archfiend dropped Nelson down to 500 Life Points, and Paolacci was able to combine Stygian Street Patrol with Infernity Archfiend in Main Phase 2 to Xyz Summon Gagaga Cowboy in Defense Position. Paolacci detached an Xyz Material from Cowboy to deal 800 more points of damage to Nelson and win the Duel!

Duel Two

 

Nelson started off Duel 2 by activated Pot of Duality! He revealed Pot of Duality, Bujingi Crane, and Bujin Mikazuchi from the top of his Deck and added the Mikazuchi to his hand. He shuffled the other 2 cards back into his Deck. He Set 3 cards to his back row and Set a monster before ending his turn.

 

 

Paolacci opened up with Infernity Break, Call of the Haunted, Mirror Force, Soul Charge, DNA Surgery, and Infernity Archfiend. He Summoned the Archfiend and then attacked Nelson’s face-down Bujingi Turtle to destroy it. He Set all 5 cards in his hand to his back row before ending his turn.

 

Nelson Set a card to his back row and then Summoned Bujin Mikazuchi. Next, he attacked Infernity Archfiend to try to destroy it; but Paolacci flipped Mirror Force to destroy Mikazuchi. In Nelson’s End Phase, Paolacci activated DNA Surgery to turn all monsters into Fiends.

 

Paolacci drew Instant Fusion next turn and activated it to Special Summon Darkfire Dragon from his Extra Deck. He combined Darkfire Dragon with Infernity Archfiend to Xyz Summon Number 66: Master Key Beetle, but lost his monster to Compulsory Evacuation Device. Next, Paolacci flipped Call of the Haunted. He tried to Special Summon Infernity Archfiend from his Graveyard; but Nelson flipped Solemn Warning and paid 2000 Life Points to negate Call of the Haunted and destroy it. Next, Paolacci flipped Soul Charge! He paid 2000 Life Points to Special Summon Darkfire Dragon and Infernity Archfiend from his Graveyard in Attack Position, and then used his Archfiend’s effect to add another Archfiend from his Deck to his hand. He combined Infernity Archfiend with Darkfire Dragon to Xyz Summon Lavalval Chain and detached an Xyz Material to activate its effect; but Nelson flipped Fiendish Chain to negate its effect. Paolacci Summoned Infernity Archfiend before ending his turn.

 

Nelson Summoned Bujin Yamato. Paolacci tried to destroy it with Infernity Break, but Nelson banished Bujingi Turtle from his Graveyard to protect it. Nelson used his Yamato’s effect to add a Bujingi Turtle from his Deck to his hand and discard it in the End Phase.

 

Paolacci drew Stygian Street Patrol and Summoned it. He combined Stygian Street Patrol with Infernity Archfiend to Xyz Summon Number 66: Master Key Beetle. Next, he detached an Xyz Material from Number 66 to protect Lavalval Chain and then attacked Yamato with Number 66 to destroy it.

 

Nelson activated Bujincarnation next turn! He Special Summoned Bujingi Turtle and Bujin Yamato to his field and then Normal Summoned Bujingi Quilin. He combined Bujingi Turtle with Bujingi Quilin to Xyz Summon Bujintei Susanowo. He detached an Xyz Material from Susanowo to add Bujin Hirume from his Deck to his hand. Next, he banished Mikazuchi from his Graveyard to Special Summon Bujin Hirume from his Deck. He combined Hirume with Yamato to Xyz Summon Number 101: Silent Honor ARK and then detached both Xyz Materials from Number 101: Silent Honor ARK to attach Number 66 to it as an Xyz Material. Number 101: Silent Honor ARK attacked and destroyed Lavalval Chain, and then Susanowo attacked directly, dropping Paolacci down to 2300 Life Points.

 

Paolacci drew Armageddon Knight next turn and Summoned it. He activated its effect to send Archfiend Heiress from his Deck to his Graveyard and activated his Heiress’s effect to add Infernity Archfiend from his Deck to his hand. Next, he banished Stygian Street Patrol from his Graveyard to Special Summon Infernity Archfiend from his hand. He activated his Archfiend’s effect to add Infernity Launcher from his Deck to his hand and then activated the Launcher. He combined his Archfiend with his Knight to Xyz Summon Lavalval Chain and then detached an Archfiend from it to send Infernity Necromancer from his Deck to his Graveyard. Next, he sent his Launcher to the Graveyard to Special Summon Infernity Necromancer and Infernity Archfiend from his Graveyard. He used his Archfiend’s effect to add Infernity Barrier from his Deck to his hand and then Set it. Next, he activated his Necromancer’s effect to Special Summon another Infernity Archfiend from his Graveyard. He used its effect to add Infernity Necromancer from his Deck to his hand. He combined both Archfiends to Xyz Summon Number 101: Silent Honor ARK next, and then detached both Xyz Materials to attach Nelson’s Number 101: Silent Honor ARK to his own as an Xyz Material.

 

Nelson detached an Xyz Material from Susanowo and added Bujin Hirume from his Deck to his hand with Susanowo’s effect. Next, he Summoned Bujingi Hare. He banished Yamato from his Graveyard to Special Summon Hirume and then combined Hirume with Hare to Xyz Summon Constellar Omega. Susanowo attacked Infernity Necromancer to destroy it, and then attacked Lavalval Chain to destroy it in battle. Next, Susanowo attacked Number 101, and Paolacci gave up an Xyz Material to protect it. Constellar Omega attacked and destroyed Number 101: Silent Honor ARK next. Paolacci dropped down to 1100 Life Points.

 

Paolacci drew Foolish Burial next turn! He activated it to send Stygian Street Patrol from his Deck to his Graveyard and then Summoned Infernity Necromancer to his field. He activated its effect to switch it into Defense Position and then Special Summon Infernity Archfiend from his Graveyard in Attack Position. He used Archfiend’s effect to add Infernity Necromancer from his Deck to his hand and then banished Stygian Street Patrol from his Graveyard to Special Summon Infernity Necromancer from his hand. He activated his Necromancer’s effect to Special Summon another Archfiend from his Graveyard and then used that Archfiend’s effect to add Infernity Break from his Deck to his hand and Set it. Next, he combined both Necromancers to Xyz Summon Leviair the Sea Dragon in Defense Position. He detached an Xyz Material from it to Special Summon Stygian Street Patrol from his Banished Zone and then combined Infernity Archfiend with Stygian Street Patrol to Xyz Summon Diamond Dire Wolf in Attack Position.

 

Nelson attacked Leviair with Susanowo. Paolacci flipped Infernity Break to destroy Susanowo, and when Nelson tried to stop it by banishing a Turtle from his Graveyard, Paolacci negated the Turtle with Infernity Barrier to make sure Susanowo was destroyed! Omega attacked and destroyed Infernity Archfiend next, and then Nelson ended his turn.

 

Paolacci drew Reinforcement of the Army and activated it to add Dark Grepher from his Deck to his hand. He Summoned it and then detached an Xyz Material from Leviair to Special Summon Infernity Archfiend from his Banished Zone. He activated his Archfiend’s effect to add Infernity Break from his Deck to his hand and then Set the Infernity Break. Next, he combined Dark Grepher with Infernity Archfiend to Xyz Summon Maestroke the Symphony Djinn. He detached an Xyz Material from Maestroke to put Constellar Omega face-down and then attacked Omega with Diamond Dire Wolf to destroy it. Maestroke attacked directly next, dropping Nelson down to 3500 Life Points.

 

Nelson Set a card to his back row and Set a monster. Paolacci flipped Infernity Break in the End Phase to destroy Nelson’s newly Set Artifact Sanctum. Artifact Sanctum destroyed Diamond Dire Wolf.

 

Paolacci drew Summoner Monk and Set it. He switched Leviair into Attack Position next. Maestroke attacked and destroyed Nelson’s face-down Bujingi Crane and then Leviair attacked directly.

 

Nelson drew a card and Set it to his back row.

 

Paolacci drew Mystical Space Typhoon and activated it to destroy Nelson’s newly Set card: It was Artifact Moralltach! Nelson Special Summoned it used its effect to take down an Xyz Material from Maestroke. Moralltach protected Nelson from defeat!

 

Nelson activated Fire Formation – Tenki next turn to add Bujin Yamato to his hand. He Summoned Yamato. Moralltach destroyed Paolacci’s face-down Summoner Monk in battle.

 

 

Nelson Summoned Bujingi Crane and combined it with Yamato to Xyz Summon Gagaga Cowboy next turn! He detached an Xyz Material to win the Duel with Cowboy’s 800 points of damage, just as Paolacci had done in Duel 1!

 

Duel Three

 

Time in the round was called on Paolacci’s first turn, so the Duel would only last for 5 turns! Paolacci started off his first turn by Summoning Stygian Street Patrol and activating Instant Fusion. He paid 1000 Life Points to Special Summon Darkfire Dragon from his Extra Deck. He combined both of his monsters to Xyz Summon Lavalval Chain and then used its effect to send Archfiend Heiress to his Graveyard. He activated Heiress’s effect to add Infernity Archfiend to his hand and then Set 4 cards to his back row. He banished Stygian Street Patrol from his Graveyard to Special Summon Archfiend from his hand and used Archfiend’s effect to add Infernity Barrier from his Deck to his hand. He Set Infernity Barrier before ending his turn.

Paolacci activated another Instant Fusion, paying another 1000 Life Points to Special Summon Fusionist from his Extra Deck. He activated Call of the Haunted next, Special Summoning Archfiend Heiress from his Graveyard. He combined Heiress with Fusionist to Xyz Summon Ghostrick Alucard and then detached an Xyz Material to try to destroy Artifact Sanctum. Nelson Chained it to Special Summon Artifact Moralltach from his Deck in Attack Position! He used Moralltach’s destruction effect to destroy Alucard and Artifact Sanctum’s destruction effect to destroy Infernity Archfiend. Next, Paolacci activated Soul Charge; but Nelson flipped Solemn Warning and paid 2000 Life Points to negate its activation! Paolacci attacked and destroyed Nelson’s face-down Bujingi Hare with Lavalval Chain before ending his turn.

 

Nelson Summoned Bujingi Turtle and then banished Bujingi Hare from his Graveyard to Special Summon Bujin Hirume from his hand. He combined his Hare with Hirume to Xyz Summon Constellar Omega and then attacked Lavalval Chain with Moralltach. He discarded Honest to try to increase Moralltach’s attack, but lost out on the attack boost to Debunk. Moralltach nevertheless destroyed Lavalval Chain, and then Constellar Omega attacked directly.

 

Paolacci drew Book of Moon next turn and Set it.

 

Nelson activated Prohibition naming Infernity Archfiend and then attacked with Moralltach. Paolacci flipped Book of Moon to put it face-down and then Omega attacked directly. With more Life Points left in overtime, Nelson was declared the winner!

 

 

Christopher Nelson finishes with a 5-4 record! Although his record isn’t strong enough to make it to Day 2, he scored himself a Feature Match victory and an unforgettable weekend!
