WCQ – CA: Finals Feature Match: Filiberto Parra vs. Jose Lagunes
This is it. Jose Lagunes from Veracruz, Mexico is Dueling against Filiberto Parra from Aguascalientes, Mexico in a Match that will determine which one of them represents Central America in the 2014 Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME World Championship. Filiberto Parra entrusted his Geargia Deck to take him all the way to the top, and Jose Lagunes entrusted his Mermails. Now, one of these Duelists is about to realize his dream of competing in the World Championship. It’s time to Duel!
Duel One
Parra opened up Duel 1 with Geargiarmor, Geargiaccelerator, Geargiano Mk-II, Dark Hole, Mystical Space Typhoon, and Needle Ceiling. He Set Mystical Space Typhoon and Needle Ceiling and then Set Geargiarmor face-down.
Lagunes Summoned Genex Undine and activated its effect. He sent Atlantean Dragoons from his Deck to his Graveyard to add Genex Controller to his hand and then activated the effect of Atlantean Dragoons to add Atlantean Marksman to his hand. Next, he discarded Atlantean Marksman to Special Summon Mermail Abyssteus from his hand, and used the effect of Abyssteus to add Mermail Abysspike to his hand. He destroyed a face-down Geargiarmor with his Marksman’s effect and then attacked directly with Abyssteus and Genex Undine. He Set 2 cards to his back row and lost Forbidden Lance to Parra’s Mystical Space Typhoon in his End Phase.
Parra drew Geargiagear and then Summoned Geargiano Mk-II. He activated its effect to Special Summon Geargiarmor from his Graveyard and then flipped his Geargiarmor face-down with its effect. Next, he Set 2 more cards to his back row and ended his turn.
Lagunes Summoned Mermail Abysspike and activated its effect to discard Atlantean Marksman and add another Marksman from his Deck to his hand. He used the effect of his discarded Marksman to destroy Parra’s face-down Geargiarmor. He attacked Geargiano Mk-II, but Parra flipped Needle Ceiling to clear the field!
Parra Summoned Geargiaccelerator next turn and attacked directly with it. Next, he Set Wiretap and ended his turn.
Lagunes Set a card to his back row. In his End Phase, Parra flipped Geargiagear and Special Summoned Geargiano Mk-II and Geargiano from his Deck as Level 4 monsters.
Parra drew Mind Control next turn! He combined Geargiano Mk-II and Geargiano to Xyz Summon Gear Gigant X, and Lagunes flipped Bottomless Trap Hole to banish it. Parra Special Summoned Geargiano from his Graveyard with the effect of Gear Gigant X and then Tributed it to Special Summon Geargiarmor from his Graveyard. He combined Geargiarmor with Geargiaccelerator to Summon Gear Gigant X and Lagunes flipped Book of Moon to put Gear Gigant X face-down.
Lagunes Summoned Genex Controller next turn and then Flip Summoned another Genex Controller. He combined bother Genex Controllers to Xyz Summon Ghostrick Alucard in Attack Position and then detached an Xyz Material from it to destroy Parra’s face-down Gear Gigant X. Parra Special Summoned Geargiano from his Graveyard with the effect of Gear Gigant X and then Alucard attacked Geargiano to destroy it in battle.
Parra flipped Dark Hole to destroy Alucard and then Set a card to his back row.
Lagunes discarded Tidal, Dragon Ruler of Waterfalls and Mermail Abyssgunde to activate Tidal’s effect and send Abyssturge to his Graveyard. Then, he Special Summoned Abyssturge from his Graveyard with Abyssgunde’s effect, and activated Abyssturge’s effect by discarding Atlantean Marksman. Atlantean Marksman targeted Parra’s face-down Book of Moon for destruction, and Parra Chained Book of Moon to flip Abyssturge face-down.
Parra Summoned Geargiano Mk-II next turn! He activated its effect to Special Summon Geargiaccelerator from his Graveyard and then activated Mind Control to take control of Lagunes’s face-down Abyssturge. He Flip Summoned Abyssturge and then combined it with Geargiaccelerator to Xyz Summon Abyss Dweller. Abyss Dweller and Geargiano Mk-II attacked directly.
Lagunes discarded Atlantean Marksman and Atlantean Heavy Infantry to Special Summon Mermail Abyssmegalo! He activated Abyssmegalo’s effect to add Abyss-sphere to his hand and Abyss Dweller gave up an Xyz Material to prevent the effects of the discarded Atlanteans. Mermail Abyssmegalo attacked and destroyed Abyss Dweller and then Lagunes Set Abyss-sphere before ending his turn.
Parra Summoned Geargiarsenal and Tributed it to Special Summon Geargiarmor from his Deck. He activated his Geargiarmor’s effect to flip it face-down and then switched Geargiano Mk-II to Defense Position before ending his turn.
Lagunes banished 2 WATER monsters from his Graveyard to Special Summon Tidal from his Graveyard in Attack Position. Mermail Abyssmegalo attacked and destroyed Geargiano Mk-II and then Tidal attacked and destroyed the face-down Geargiarmor. Parra added Geargiaccelerator to his hand with his Geargiarmor’s effect. In Main Phase 2, Lagunes combined Tidal with Abyssmegalo to Xyz Summon Mecha Phantom Beast Dracossack. He detached an Xyz Material from Dracossack to Special Summon 2 Mecha Phantom Beast Tokens to the field and Tributed one of them to destroy Parra’s face-down Wiretap.
Parra drew Geargiarsenal next turn and Summoned it. He Special Summoned Geargiaccelerator next, and combined both monsters to Xyz Summon Evilswarm Exciton Knight. He activated Evilswarm Exciton Knight’s effect to destroy all cards on the field, and Lagunes Chained Abyss-sphere to Special Summon Mermail Abyssleed from his Deck. All of Lagunes’s cards, other than Dracossack, were destroyed, and then Parra detached another Xyz Material from Evilswarm Exciton Knight to take down Dracossack.
Lagunes banished 2 more WATER monsters from his Graveyard to Special Summon Tidal, Dragon Ruler of Waterfalls back from his Graveyard next turn and then Normal Summoned Mermail Abysslinde. Next, he banished a WATER monster from his Graveyard to Special Summon Aqua Spirit. Mermail Abysslinde attacked into Evilswarm Exciton Knight, and when it was destroyed in battle and sent to the Graveyard, Parra Special Summoned Mermail Abyssteus from his Deck with Abysslinde’s effect. Tidal attacked and destroyed Evilswarm Exciton Knight, and then direct attacks from Mermail Abyssteus and Aqua Spirit dropped Parra down to 900 Life Points. In Main Phase 2, Lagunes combined Abyssteus with Tidal to Xyz Summon Mermail Abyssgaios.
Parra drew Mystical Space Typhoon next turn and conceded, with no plays remaining.

Duel Two
Parra opened up Duel 2 with Banisher of the Radiance, Mystical Space Typhoon, Torrential Tribute, Wiretap, and 2 copies of Geargiarsenal. He Summoned Banisher of the Radiance and Set Mystical Space Typhoon, Torrential Tribute, and Wiretap to his back row.
Lagunes activated Book of Moon to put Banisher of the Radiance face-down and then Summoned Mermail Abysspike. He discarded Atlantean Marksman from his hand to activate Abysspike’s effect and add Atlantean Marksman from his Deck to his hand. He used his Marksman’s effect to destroy Parra’s face-down Torrential Tribute. Next, Lagunes discarded 2 more copies of Atlantean Marksman to Special Summon Mermail Abyssmegalo from his hand. He activated Abyssmegalo’s effect to add Abyss-sphere from his Deck to his hand and destroyed Parra’s face-down Banisher of the Radiance and Mystical Space Typhoon with the effects of his 2 Marksmen. Next, Abyssmegalo and Abysspike attacked directly, dropping Parra down to 4000 Life Points. Lagunes Set a card to his back row before ending his turn.
Parra Summoned Geargiarsenal and attacked Mermail Abysspike to destroy it. Then, in Main Phase 2, he Tributed Geargiarsenal to Special Summon Geargiarmor from his Deck. He activated his Geargiarmor’s effect to flip it face-down and Lagunes flipped Abyss-sphere at the end of Main Phase 2; but Parra flipped Wiretap to negate it and shuffle it back into Lagunes’s Deck!
Lagunes Summoned Atlantean Heavy Infantry next turn. He Tributed to activate Mermail Abyssmegalo’s effect so that his Mermail Abyssmegalo could attack twice, and then attacked Geargiarmor to destroy it. Parra added Geargiaccelerator to his hand with Geargiarmor’s effect when Geargiarmor flipped face-up. Next, Lagunes attacked directly with Mermail Abyssmegalo.
Parra Summoned Geargiarmor and then Special Summoned Geargiaccelerator. He combined both monsters to Xyz Summon Number 101: Silent Honor ARK and activated its effect to attach Mermail Abyssmegalo as an Xyz Material. Number 101: Silent Honor ARK attacked directly before Parra ended his turn.
Lagunes drew a card and passed without making a play.
Parra attacked directly with Number 101: Silent Honor ARK and then Set a monster.
Lagunes activated Mind Control to take control of Parra’s face-down Geargiarmor and then flipped it face-up. He Summoned Atlantean Dragoons next and combined his two monsters to Xyz Summon Number 101: Silent Honor ARK.
Finally, he detached both Xyz Material from Number 101: Silent Honor ARK to attach Parra’s Number 101: Silent Honor ARK as an Xyz Material, and Filiberto Parra offered the handshake, realizing he would be defeated by Number 101.
Jose Lagunes takes a 2-0 victory with his Mermail Deck and advances to the World Championship in Italy!
