Round 5 Feature Match: Chancy Wigglestove Versus Nicolas Volk

November 23rd, 2014

Nicolas Volk travelled here all the way from France and is battlingng with an Artifact Dragon Shaddoll Deck trying to make his way to the top cut of the North American stage. Chancy Wigglestove has come down from the land of Canada and is no stranger to the feature match area. He persuaded us with some fantastic artwork on his feature match request form, so we basically had to bring him back. He is also using a Dragon Shaddoll Deck, but has chosen not to play the Artifact engine in favor of some other spicy tech.

Wigglestove won the roll and chose to go first.

Duel One:

Wigglestove opened a hand of two Shaddoll Falco, Mathematician, Shaddoll Beast, and Shaddoll Fusion. He Normal Summoned Mathematician and used its effect to send Shaddoll Squamata to the Graveyard, then used Squamata to send Shaddoll Beast. The Shaddoll Beast let Wigglestove draw Shaddoll Core, so he Set it and ended.

Volk drew for turn, announced his phases, and then Set three to his back row before ending.

Wigglestove drew Shaddoll Dragon for turn, and then activated Shaddoll Fusion and Chained Shaddoll Core. He used the Core along with a Shaddoll Falco as materials to Fusion Summon El Shaddoll Winda, adding the Shaddoll Fusion back to his hand via Core and getting to Special Summon Falco face-down because of its own effect. He declared attacks with both Mathematician and Winda, and in Main Phase 2, tributed his Winda for a Set Shaddoll Beast so he could add back Shaddoll Core. He Set the Core and ended. Volk took a moment to think during the End Phase, and ultimately decided to activate Artifact Sanctum to Special Summon Artifact Moralltach and destroy Wigglestove’s Mathematician. He then followed it up with Sinister Shadow Games, sending Shaddoll Squamata and having Squamata send Shaddoll Beast to draw a card.

Volk drew to five cards in hand. He Normal Summoned Mathematician and used its effect to send Shaddoll Falco, which then Special Summoned itself face-down. He declared an attack with Mathematician on Wigglestove’s Set Shaddoll Falco, which then Special Summoned Shaddoll Squamata face-down. After that, Volk used his Set Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy Wigglestove’s Set Shaddoll Core, and attacked over the Set Shaddoll Beast with Artifact Moralltach, which then triggered its effect. Wigglestove drew Mathematician and Black Dragon Collapserpent , and discarded Shaddoll Dragon to finish the effect. Volk Set a back row and ended his turn.

Wigglestove drew Raigeki for turn, then thought for a little bit. He used Shaddoll Fusion sending Shaddoll Squamata and Shaddoll Falco to the Graveyard to Fusion Summon El Shaddoll Winda. The Shaddoll Squamata triggered sending Shaddoll Dragon, and then Shaddoll Falco triggered to Special Summon itself face-down. When  Shaddoll Dragon activated to destroy Volk’s Set back row, he Chained Super Polymyerization! He discarded Shaddoll Fusion for cost, then used his Set Shaddoll Falco along with Wigglestove’s Winda to make a Winda of his own; he also got to re-Set his Falco face-down. Wigglestove added Shaddoll Fusion back to his hand via his own Winda’s Graveyard effect.  Wigglestove was not done yet though, he Normal Summoned Mathematician and used its effect to send Eclipse Wyvern to his Graveyard and banish Dark Armed Dragon from his Deck! He then Special Summoned his Black Dragon Collapserpent to add the Dark Armed Dragon to his hand, and activated Raigeki to clear everything but the opposing Winda! He ended his turn afterwards.

Volk drew to three cards in hand. He activated Foolish Burial to send Shaddoll Hedgehog to the Graveyard, and added Shaddoll Beast to his hand via its effect. He then Special Summoned Black Dragon Collapserpent banishing his Artifact Moralltach, declaring an attack with the Collapserpent over Wigglestove’s Set Shaddoll Falco which got Wigglestove a Set Shaddoll Beast from his Graveyard. Volk attacked over the Shaddoll Beast with Winda which activated its effect; Wigglestove drew Allure of Darkness and Shaddoll Squamata from the Beast, and discarded Dark Armed Dragon.

Wigglestove drew Shaddoll Hedgehog. He activated the Allure of Darkness drawing El Shaddoll Fusion and Mathematician, banishing Shaddoll Squamata to finish its effect. He Normal Summoned Mathematician to send Felis, Lightsworn Archer to his Graveyard, using its own effect to Special Summon itself and was left the materials necessary to Synchro Summon Arcanite Magician. He removed both counters to destroy Volk’s Black Dragon Collapserpent along with the Set Shaddoll Beast, and even though Volk got some cards out of the transaction he realized that he was done for when Wigglestove activated Shaddoll Fusion.

Wigglestove takes an impressive victory over Volk game one, showing his mastery of Shaddoll. Can he end the match in just two Duels or will Volk be able to mount a comeback?

Volk chose to start the next game.

Duel Two:

Volk Set three back row and ended his turn.

Wigglestove had a hand with two copies of Mathematician, Mystical Space Typhoon, Shaddoll Core, Shaddoll Dragon, and drew Super Polymerization for turn. When he Normal Summoned Mathematician and tried to use its effect, Volk responded with Breakthrough Skill. After a direct attack with Mathematician, Wigglestove Set all of his Spell/Trap Cards to his back row before ending. Volk used Sinister Shadow Games during Wigglestove’s End Phase to send Shaddoll Squamata and then Shaddoll Beast to the Graveyard, drawing a card off of Shaddoll Beast.

Volk drew and simply Set a back row before trying to end, but Wigglestove used his Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy the freshly Set El Shaddoll Fusion.

Wigglestove drew Shaddoll Falco for turn. He grabbed his calculator and did some quick calculations, then Normal Summoned Mathematician and used its effect to send Felis, Lightsworn Archer to the Graveyard which then brought itself back. He declared attacks with both Mathematicians, then Felis, Lightsworn Archer, then activated Shaddoll Core and declared a direct attack with that as well. He followed it up with Super Polymerization discarding Shaddoll Dragon to Fusion Summon El Shaddoll Construct in an attempt to go for game, using Shaddoll Core and Felis, Lightsworn Archer as the materials. Construct sent Shaddoll Beast to which drew him Honest, but when he tried to attack for game Volk had a Super Polymerization of his own and Fusion Summoned El Shaddoll Shekhinaga using Wigglestove’s Construct and a Mathematician! Volk discarded Eclipse Wyvern to banish Dark Armed Dragon from his Deck, and the mighty 3000 DEF was quite a problem for Wigglestove. He added back Shaddoll Core with Construct, and then Set it before ending.

Volk drew to three cards in hand with the Duel standing at his 1050 to Wigglestove’s 8000 Life Points. He Special Summoned Black Dragon Collapserpent by banishing the Eclipse Wyvern, which let him add Dark Armed Dragon to his hand. With two DARKS in his Graveyard, he activated Shaddoll Fusion using El Shaddoll Shekhinaga and Black Dragon Collapserpent as materials to Fusion Summon Winda! He added White Dragon Wyverburster and Shaddoll Fusion back to his hand via their effects. Because of the Shaddoll Fusion he had enough DARKS to Special Summon Dark Armed Dragon, using its effect to destroy Wigglestove’s Mathematician and Shaddoll Core. After attacks with both Dark Armed Dragon and El Shaddoll Winda Wigglestove dropped down to 3000 Life Points.

Wigglestove drew White Dragon Wyverburster for turn! He slammed it down as fast as he could and announced to the world, “I top decked this!” He immediately declared an attack on Dark Armed Dragon, which Volk was perplexed by and had no idea what was about to come; Wigglestove had Honest during Damage Calculation to deal the last points he needed to take the victory!
