Round 2 Feature Match: George Ashi versus Nicholas Smith

January 31st, 2015

We picked George Ashi this Round for our Feature Match because we knew that he was playing HERO this weekend, and he made sure to inform us of his enthusiasm. He has flown all the way from California to show his devotion to Jaden Yuki, so we wanted to make it worth his while. Nicholas Smith hails from Maryland and is also using a HERO variant! Both Duelists have clearly taken advantage of the tools from the HERO Strike Structure Deck so we’ll see who is the true HERO master!

Neither Duelist had a die so they chose to Flip a coin, and Ashi called it in the air as Smith flipped it. After getting a little lucky with the flip, Smith chose to go first..

Duel One:

Smith started things off with A Hero Lives, paying half of his Life Points to Special Summon a Elemental HERO Shadow Mist from his Deck. He used its effect to add Mask Change from his hand, then Set two his back row before ending.

Ashi opened a hand of Goblindbergh, A Hero Lives, Elemental HERO Shadow Mist , Reinforcement of the Army, E – Emergency Call, and drew another copy of E – Emergency Call for turn. He Normal Summoned Goblindbergh and used it to Special Summon Elemental HERO Shadow Mist, using that to add Mask Change to his hand. He activated E – Emergency Call, but Smith Chained Mask Change to Special Summon Masked HERO Dark Law! E – Emergency Call resolved and Ashi added Elemental HERO Bubbleman to his hand, but Smith forgot to use his Dark Law’s effect to banish a random card. Ashi then Set the rest of the Spells and Traps to his backrow, so he could Special Summon Elemental HERO Bubbleman. He overlayed Goblindbergh with Bubbleman to try to Xyz Summon Heroic Challenger – Excalibur, but Smith stopped it with Solemn Warning. Ashi followed it up by flipping a Set E – Emergency Call to add another Bubbleman to his hand, but messed up by activating a Set Reinforcement of the Army to add Goblindbergh to his hand not letting his Special Summon his Bubbleman. Clearly shaken by this, Ashi decided to just end his turn.

Smith drew to five cards in hand and Normal Summoned Summoner Monk, but when its effect activated to switch it to Defense but Ashi Chained his Mask Change to send away his Elemental HERO Shadow Mist to in order to Summon Masked HERO Dark Law, stopping Smith from using Summoner Monk’s effect. Smith followed things up with Miracle Fusion, banishing the Elemental HERO Shadow Mist from his Graveyard along with the Summoner Monk from the field to Summon Elementa HERO Escuridao. He attacked over the opposing Dark Law, and then directly with his own dropping Ashi down to 5500.

Ashi drew Snatch Steal for turn, then Flipped his Set A Hero Lives to Special Summon Elemental HERO Shadow Mist from his Deck neglecting to use its effect. He then activated Snatch Steal to take the opposing Masked HERO Dark Law! He Normal Summoned Goblindbergh then overlayed it with the Elemental HERO Shadow Mist to Castel, the Skyblaster Muskeeter. He Special Summoned Elemental HERO Bubbleman from his hand, then used Castel to spin away the Elementa HERO Escuridao so that he could search another Bubbleman from the detached Elemental HERO Shadow Mist. With a clear field, Ashi was able to attack for game!

Both Duelists were surprised by facing their own Deck, and while both stumbled a bit Ashi emerged the winner of game one. Can he take the match or will Smith mount a comeback?

Duel Two:

Smith activated Reinforcement of the Army to add Elemental HERO Shadow Mist to his hand, then Normal Summoned it. He Set two to his back row and ended.

A Hero Lives, Elemental HERO Bubbleman, Book of Moon, Mirror Force, and Tin Goldfish drawing Elemental HERO Shadow Mist for turn. He Normal Summoned Tin Goldfish so he could Special Summon Elemental HERO Shadow Mist, but in response to the Mist’s effect Smith tried to activate Mask Change II! Ashi had Book of Moon to Flip the opposing Elemental HERO Shadow Mist face-down so that it would resolve without effect and got Mask Change to his hand via Elemental HERO Shadow Mist. He Set all of his Spells and Traps to the back row, and then Special Summoned Elemental HERO Bubbleman from his hand in Defense Mode. He overlayed the Tin Goldfish and Elemental HERO Bubbleman for Cairngorgon, Antiluminescent Knight. He then ended his turn.

Smith drew and activated Puppet Plant on Elemental HERO Shadow Mist, but Ashi responded with Mask Change which had Smith try to Maxx “C” in response. Smith didn’t realize that his card he drew would get banished though, so he lost E – Emergency Call! He ended his turn right after.

Ashi drew De-Fusion for turn. He declared attacks with both Monsters, clearing away the Set Elemental HERO Shadow Mist and putting Smith down to 5550 before Setting the freshly drawn Spell and ending.

Smith drew, Set a Monster, and ended.

Ashi drew Mask Change for turn, Normal Summoned Elemental HERO Bubbleman and went to attack. After activating the freshly drawn Mask Change to Summon Masked HERO Acid and Smith conceded.
