Round 3 Feature Match: Jason Zimmerman versus Joe Bogli
Long Island’s Jason Zimmerman is one of this weekend’s VIP players. He won his local VIP Qualifier Tournament with a Shaddoll Deck before the release of Secrets of Eternity, earning him a spot in the VIP section of the tournament floor and a 2-round Bye at the start of the tournament. Now he’s 2-0 in the tournament with his Infernoid Deck, and Dueling against Joe Bogli – a 2011 World Championship competitor who won his first 2 rounds this weekend by using his Burning Abyss Deck. Only one of these two duelists can advance with a 3-0 record. It’s time to Duel!
Duel One
Bogli won the die roll and opted to go second in Duel 1.
Zimmerman opened up with Upstart Goblin, Infernoid Seitsemas, Infernoid Attondel, Solar Recharge, and Infernoid Harmadik.
He activated Upstart Goblin to draw another copy of Infernoid Seitsemas and then passed his turn. He Special Summoned Cir from his hand and then Normal Summoned Graff. He combined Cir with Graff to Xyz Summon Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss and then detached Graff to activate Dante’s effect and send Enemy Controller, Rubic, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss, and Libic, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard. Graff Special Summoned Scarm from Bogli’s Deck and then Libic Special Summoned Cir from Bogli’s hand. He combined his monsters to Xyz Summon another Dante in Attack Position and then detached Scarm from Dante to send 3 more cards from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard. He attacked directly with both copies of Dante to drop Zimmerman down to 3000 Life Points and then upgraded both of his Dantes into Downerd Magicians in Main Phase 2. He Set 3 cards to his back row and then ended his turn.
Zimmerman drew a card and conceded on his next turn, completely outmatched by Bogli’s field.
Bogli punishes a bad opening for Zimmerman by taking a speedy win in Duel 1!
Duel Two
Zimmerman chose for Bogli to go first in Duel 2.
Bogli Normal Summoned Scarm and then Special Summoned Rubic from his hand. He Tuned his monsters together to Synchro Summon Virgil, Rock Star of the Burning Abyss and then Set 2 cards to his back row. He added Graff, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss from his Deck to his hand with the effect of Scarm during his End Phase.
Zimmerman started his turn with Infernoid Seitsemas, 2 copies of Infernoid Onuncu, Mystical Space Typhoon, Reasoning, and Infernoid Attondel in his hand. He Special Summoned Infernoid Seitsemas by banishing 2 copies of Onuncu from his hand. Next, he activated Reasoning; but Bogli Chained Vanity’s Emptiness. Bogli called 4 with Reasoning, and Zimmerman flipped Lumina, Lightsworn Summoner from the top of his Deck and sent it to the Graveyard since Vanity’s Emptiness prevented it from being Special Summoned. Infernoid Seitsemas attacked Virgil and Bogli flipped Book of Moon to try to put Infernoid Seitsemas face-down; Zimmerman Chained Infernoid Seitsemas’s effect to Tribute it and banish Scarm from Zimmerman’s Graveyard. Vanity’s Emptiness went to the Graveyard as a result of Bogli’s Book of Moon going to the Graveyard.
Bogli attacked directly with Virgil and passed his turn.
Zimmerman banished Infernoid Harmadik and Infernoid Seitsemas to Special Summon Infernoid Attondel. He attacked Virgil to destroy it, allowing Bogli to draw a card, and then attacked directly with Attondel’s second attack. He Set a card to his back row before passing his turn.
Bogli Special Summoned Farfa and then Normal Summoned Graff. He combined both monsters to Xyz Summon Dante and then detached Graff to activate Dante’s effect and send Scarm, Karma Cut, and Raigeki from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard. Next, he Special Summoned Cir from his Deck with Graff’s effect. He attacked with Cir and Dante, dropping Zimmerman down to 1400 Life Points. He activated Snatch Steal to try to take control of Infernoid Attondel in Main Phase 2, and Zimmerman Chained its effect to Tribute it and banish Scarm from Bogli’s Graveyard. Next, Bogli upgraded Dante to Downerd Magician, causing Cir to self-destruct and allowing Bogli to Special Summon Virgil from his Graveyard with Cir’s effect.
Zimmerman conceded on his next turn, unable to take down Bogli’s monsters.
Joe Bogli takes a quick 2-0 victory and advances in the tournament with a 3-0 record!
