Round 4 Feature Match: Lexus Wingate versus Jose Marzan

January 31st, 2015

Jose Marzan has made the trip from Puerto Rico, Dueling with a Qliphort Deck utilizing Storm to enable huge combos. Lexus Wingate has made the trip from Northern California, and is using a standard Satellarknight Deck. Both Decks rely heavily on drawing Qliphort Scout and Satellarknight Deneb respectively, but has ways to search them via Summoner’s Art and Reinforcement of the Army. Both Duelists are sitting at 3-0 so they have already begun to show they know their stuff; which Deck will come out on top?

Marzan won the roll and elected to go first.

Duel One:

Marzen started things off with a Qliphort Scout, placing it on his Pendulum Scale and paying 800 Life Points to add Qliphort Disk to his hand. He then placed Qliphort Monolith on the opposite side of the scale so he could Pendulum Summon Qliphort Carrier from his hand. He equipped it with Saqlifice, and then tributed it away for Qliphort Disk. Qliphort Disk Special Summoned a Qliphort Carrier and a Qliphort Helix, the Saqlifice let him add Qliphort Scout.

Wingate opened with a hand of Satellarknight Altair, Satellarknight Vega, Solemn Warning, Raigeki, Dark Hole, and drew Mystical Space Typhoon for turn. He thought for a moment, then used Dark Hole to destroy the Qliphort Disk. He Normal Summoned Satellarknight Vega and activated its effect, but Marzan had Maxx “C” to draw a card. Wingate Special Summoned Satellarknight Altair and attack directly with both. In Main Phase 2 he Xyz Summoned Evilswarm Exciton Knight and used its effect to destroy Marzan’s Qliphort Monolith and Qliphort Scout. He Set the rest of his hand before ending.

Marzan drew to five, then placed Qliphort Scout on a scale. When he tried to activate its effect, Wingate had Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy it putting Marzan down to 3500 Life Points. Marzan then Set a back row, then used Storm to destroy his own Set Dark Hole along with Wingate’s Set Solemn Warning. He placed his third Qliphort Scout on scale, then used it to add Qliphort Carrier to his hand. He placed it on the opposite end of the scale, the Pendulum Summoned Qliphort Monolith, Qliphort Disk, Qliphort Carrier, and Qliphort Helix from his Extra Deck. With only one card in hand, Marzan slammed it down…Snatch Steal! He used it to take Wingate’s Evilswarm Exciton Knight and attacked for game!

Wingate dove quickly to his Side Deck, the key to victory against Qliphort. Will he be able to win two games in a row?

Duel Two:

Wingate chose for Marzan to go first, and he opened up with the dreaded Qliphort Scout on his Pendulum Scale. Paying 800, he added Qliphort Helix. He placed Qliphort Monolith on the other side of his scale, then Pendulum Summoned Qliphort Shell and Qliphort Helix from his hand. He tributed both away for Qliphort Disk, getting Qliphort Carrier and Qliphort Helix from his Deck. He Set a back row before ending, drawing two cards from Qliphort Monolith and having the two Monsters from Disk destroyed.

Wingate opened a hand of Satellarknight Unukalhai, Stellarnova Alpha, Soul Charge, Call of the Haunted, Oasis of Dragon Souls, and drew Reinforcement of the Army for turn. He activated Reinforcement of the Army to add Satellarknight Vega to his hand, then Normal Summoned it and Special Summoned Satellarknight Unukalhai. The Unukalhai sent Satellarknight Deneb, and then he overlayed both his Monsters for Evilswarm Exciton Knight. He activated its effect blowing away Marzan’s scales along with his Set Mystical Space Typhoon but didn’t destroy the Qliphort Disk. He Set all of his Traps before ending.

Marzan drew and Wingate immediately activated Oasis of Dragon Souls to grab back his Satellarknight Deneb, adding Satellarknight Altair to his hand. Marzan attacked over his Evilswarm Exciton Knight with Qliphort Disk before ending.IMG_0444

Wingate drew Call of the Haunted for turn and considered his options. He Normal Summoned Satellarknight Altair and used its effect to Special Summon Satellarknight Unukalhai from his Graveyard, sending another Satellarknight Altair to the Graveyard thanks to Satellarknight Unukalhai. He then overlayed all three for Stellarknight Triverr, bouncing back his traps so he could reuse Oasis of Dragon Souls. He used Triverr’s other effect right after, forcing Marzan to discard Qliphort Disk. He Set all four of his traps before ending.

Marzan drew to three cards and Wingate activated Oasis of Dragon Souls once again to make sure his Stellarnova Alpha was live. He brought back Satellarknight Altair which Summoned Satellarknight Deneb, letting him add another Satellarknight Altair to his hand. Marzan then activated Saqlifice on his Qliphort Disk, and tributed it away for Qliphort Stealth to bounce away Wingate’s Triverr. He then activated Qliphort Scout on his scale, but Wingate used his Nova to stop it and draw Satellarknight Deneb. Marzan attacked over Altair before ending.

Wingate drew Satellarknight Vega for turn, then used Call of the Haunted to bring back his Satellarknight Altair using it to bring back Satellarknight Deneb which let him search Satellarknight Unukalhai. He Normal Summoned the Unukalhai so he could Xyz Summon Stellarknight Triverr, bouncing back his cards once again. He used the Stellarknight Triverr to take Qliphort Carrier away from Marzan’s hand before ending.

Marzan attacked over the Stellarknight Triverr with Qliphort Stealth, which let Wingate bring back Satellarknight Altair which revived Satellarknight Deneb. Deneb added X*, Marzan ended.

Wingate drew Dust Tornado for turn, then overlayed his two Monsters for Daigusto Emeral. He sent three of his Monsters back to his Deck to draw Breakthrough Skill, then considered his options. He Normal Summoned Satellarknight Vega, used it to Special Summon Satellarknight Deneb which then searched Satellarknight Altair. He overlayed both of them for Gagaga Cowboy to put Marzan down to 6400, then Set the remaining cards he could to his back row before ending.

Marzan drew to two cards and declared an attack over Daigusto Emeral with Qliphort Stealth before trying to pass, but Wingate hadCall of the Haunted to bring back his Satellarknight Vega. Vega activating Special Summoning his Satellarknight Altair, which let him bring back Satellarknight Deneb to add another Satellarknight Altair; a lot for the end of his opponent’s turn.

Wingate drew Honest, a perfect draw! He switched his Monsters to attack mode and cleared the Qliphort Stealth with the help of the Fairy, then attacked with the rest for game.

Evilswarm Exciton Knight makes a huge impact against Qliphort, and Wingate is able to claim the second Duel. Who will be victorious and move on undefeated?

Duel Three:

Marzan started once again and had Summoner’s Art to add Qliphort Scout to his hand. He used the Qliphort Scout to add Qliphort Helix, then Normal Summoned it before Setting three to his back row.

Wingate had a hand of Reinforcement of the Army, Soul Charge, Night Beam, two copies of Satellarknight Vega, and drew Solemn Warning for turn. He activated Reinforcement of the Army adding Satellarknight Deneb to his hand, then Normal Summoned Satellarknight Vega and attempted to activate its effect which prompted Marzan to flip his Vanity’s Emptiness. Wingate Set Solemn Warning with no further actions, but Marzan had Mystical Space Typhoon during the End Phase to blow away the Solemn Warning and send his own Vanity’s Emptiness to the Graveyard.

Marzan drew and activated Qliphort Scout, searching his Deck for Saqlifice. He equipped it to his Qliphort Helix, then tributed the Helix away for Qliphort Monolith which let him destroy his own Scout because of Helix as well as add another copy of Scout thanks to Saqlifice. He activated the new Qliphort Scout and used it to search another Qliphort Monolith from his Deck. He activated the new Monolith at the opposite end of the scale, then Pendulum Summoned his Qliphort Helix in Attack Mode along with his Qliphort Scout in Defense Mode. He attacked over Satellarknight Vega and then directly putting Wingate down to 5000 Life Points. He drew a card during the End Phase from Qliphort Monolith.

Wingate drew Satellarknight Unukalhai for turn, then activated Night Beam to blow away Marzan’s Set Raigeki. When he Normal Summoned Satellarknight Vega and used its effect, Marzan had Maxx “C” to draw a card off the Special Summon of Satellarknight Unukalhai. Wingate then overlayed them both for Evilswarm Exciton Knight, blowing away Marzan’s whole field! He ended his turn once the coast was clear with Satellarknight Deneb and Soul Charge left in his hand.

Marzan drew to four cards and thought for a bit before Setting a card to his back row and using Storm to blow it away. The recently yarded Saqlifice then triggered, letting him add Qliphort Scout which he then placed on a scale. He paid 800 putting himself down to 4800 Life Points, adding Qlimate Change to his hand. He Set all three of his cards to his back row before ending.

Wingate drew Dust Tornado turn, then slammed down Soul Charge to bring back his Satellarknight Unukalhai, Satellarknight Deneb, and Satellarknight Vega. He used the Deneb to add Satellarknight Altair and Unukalhai to send Deneb to his Graveyard, but Marzan had Bottomless Trap Hole to banish both Satellarknight Deneb and Satellarknight Unukalhai. Now a bit stifled, Wingate proceeded to Normal Summon Satellarknight Deneb but opted not to use its effect, simply overlay it with Satellarknight Vega for Castel, the Skyblaster Musketeer. He used the Castel to shuffle back Marzan’s Qliphort Scout, then Set his Dust Tornado before ending. Marzan used his Mystical Space Typhoon during the End Phase though to destroy Wingate’s Dust Tornado.

Marzan drew to one card and immediately Flipped his Qlimate Change, adding Qliphort Monolith, and two copies of Qliphort Scout to his hand. He activated one of the Qliphort Scouts after placing it on scale, paying himself down to 4000 Life Points so he could add Qliphort Stealth to his hand. He placed Qliphort Monolith on the other side of his scale, then Pendulum Summoned practically his whole Extra Deck to the field. He tributed a couple Qliphorts away to Summon Qliphort Stealth, bouncing away the Evilswarm Exciton Knight so he could attack for game!
