Round 1 Feature Match: Levi Dodd versus Liam Lamont

Welcome to Round 1 of YCS Tacoma! In this Round 1 Feature Match, local Washington Duelist Levi Dodd is using his new Ritual Beast Deck to Duel against Canada’s Liam Lamont and his Nekroz Deck. Both of these two Decks are made possible by the release of The Secret Forces, but only one of these Duelists can advance to round 2 with a 1-0 record. It’s time to Duel!

Duel One

 

Dodd chose to go first and opened up with Spiritual Beast Pettlephin, Ritual Beast Tamer Lara, Snatch Steal, Raigeki, and Spiritual Beast Apelio. He Set Pettlephin and then passed his turn.

 

Levi Dodd

 

Lamont Summoned Manju of the Ten Thousand Hands and then activated its effect to add Nekroz Kaleidoscope from his Deck to his hand. He activated his Kaleidoscope to send Herald of the Arc Light from his Extra Deck to his Graveyard and Summon Nekroz of Unicore from his hand. He added Nekroz of Brionac from his Deck to his hand with the effect of his Herald and then discarded Nekroz of Brionac to add Shurit, Strategist of the Nekroz to his hand with the effect of Nekroz of Brionac. He attacked Dodd’s face-down Pettlephin with Unicore to destroy it and then attacked directly with Manju, dropping Dodd down to 6600 Life Points. He combined Manju with Nekroz of Unicore to Xyz Summon Lavalval Chain and then detached Manju to send Nekroz of Valkyrus from his Deck to his Graveyard. Next, he activated Reinforcement of the Army to add Nekroz of Clausolas from his Deck to his hand and discarded it to add Nekroz Cycle from his Deck to his hand. He activated Nekroz Cycle, Tributing Shurit to Special Summon Valkyrus from his Graveyard. Next, he Tributed his on-field Lavalval Chain and the Nekroz of Brionac in his hand to draw 2 cards with the effect of Nekroz of Valkyrus.

 

Dodd Summoned Ritual Beast Tamer Lara and activated its effect to Special Summon Pettlephin from his Graveyard. He activated Pettlephin’s effect to banish Apelio from his hand and return Nekroz of Valkyrus to Lamont’s hand. Next, he fused his Ritual Beast Tamer with his Spiritual Beast by banishing them both from the field in order to Summon Ritual Beast Ulti-Cannahawk! He activated its effect by selecting 2 of his banished cards to send to his Graveyard, and then Chained Ulti-Cannahawk’s other effect to return it to the Extra Deck and Special Summon Lara and Apelio from his banished zone. He returned Pettlephin to his Graveyard from his Banished Zone and added Ritual Beast Steeds from his Deck to his hand with the effect of Ulti-Cannahawk. Next, he activated Apelio’s effect by banishing Pettlephin from his Graveyard, and fused his 2 monsters together by banishing them to Summon Ritual Beast Ulti-Apelio. He attacked directly with Ulti-Apelio before setting Ritual Beast Steeds and passing his turn.

 

Lamont activated Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy Dodd’s face-down Ritual Beast Steeds and then banished the Unicore and Kaleidoscope from his Graveyard to add another Kaleidoscope from his Deck to his hand with the effect of the Kaleidoscope in his Graveyard. He activated his new Nekroz Kaleidoscope to send Herald of the Arc Light from his Extra Deck to his Graveyard and Summon Nekroz of Unicore from his hand. He activated his Herald of the Arc Light’s effect to add Nekroz Mirror from his Deck to his hand. Next, he activated the Mirror to banish Brionac and Clausolas from his Graveyard and Special Summon Nekroz of Trishula from his hand. He activated Nekroz of Trishula’s effect, and Dodd Chained the effect of his Ulti- monster to Special Summon Pettlephin and Lara from his Banished Zone. Trishula banished Steeds from Dodd’s Graveyard, Pettlephin from his field, and Raigeki from his hand. Next, Lamont discarded Brionac from his hand to add Nekroz of Clausolas to his hand, discarded Nekroz of Clausolas to add Nekroz Cycle from his Deck to his hand, and then activated Nekroz Cycle to Tribute Shurit from his hand and Summon Nekroz of Valkyrus. Finally, he activated Raigeki, and then direct attacks from Nekroz of Unicore, Nekroz of Trishula, and Nekroz of Valkyrus finished Dodd off!

Duel Two

 

Dodd opened up Duel 2 with Gold Sarcophagus, Emergency Teleport, Spiritual Beast Cannahawk, Maxx “C”, and Ritual Beast Steeds. He Summoned Cannahawk and activated its effect to banish Spiritual Beast Apelio from his Deck. Next, he activated Emergency Teleport to Special Summon Ritual Beast Tamer Elder from his Deck. He banished Elder and Cannahawk to Special Summon Ritual Beast Ulti-Cannahawk from his Extra Deck and then activated Ulti-Cannahawk’s effect to send Cannahawk and Apelio from his Banished Zone to his Graveyard and add Ritual Beast Ambush from his Deck to his hand. Next, he activated Gold Sarcophagus to banish Cannahawk from his Deck. He Set Ritual Beast Steeds and Ritual Beast Ambush before ending his turn.

 

Lamont Summoned Senju of the Thousand Hands and activated its effect to add Nekroz of Brionac from his Deck to his hand. Next, he discarded Nekroz of Brionac to add Nekroz of Trishula from his Deck to his hand. He discarded Nekroz of Clausolas from his hand next, activating its effect to add Nekroz Mirror from his Deck to his hand. He activated Nekroz Mirror and Tributed Shurit to Special Summon Nekroz of Trishula from his hand, and then Dodd discarded Maxx “C” from his hand to empty his hand and deprive Trishula of its effect. Trishula attacked Ulti-Cannahawk, and Dodd flipped Ritual Beast Steeds. He Chained the effect of Cannahawk to Special Summon Ritual Beast Tamer Elder and Spiritual Beast Cannahawk from his Banished Zone, and cleared Lamont’s field with his Steeds.

 

Dodd activated his Cannahawk’s effect to banish Ritual Beast Tamer Wen from his Deck. Next, he combined Ritual Beast Tamer Elder with Spiritual Beast Cannahawk by banishing them to Summon Ritual Beast Ulti-Cannahawk from his Extra Deck. He activated Cannahawk’s effect to target Cannahawk and Wen in his Banished Zone and return them to his Graveyard, and then Chained Ulti-Cannahawk’s effect to Special Summon Cannahawk and Elder from his Banished Zone. Wen returned to his Graveyard and Dodd added Ritual Beast’s Bond to his hand with Ulti-Cannahawk’s effect. Next, he activated Spiritual Beast Cannahawk’s effect to banish Lara from his Deck and Normal Summoned Apelio. He banished Spiritual Beast Cannahawk and Elder from his field to Summon Ritual Beast Ulti-Apelio and then flipped Ritual Beast Ambush to Special Summon Ritual Beast Tamer Wen and Spiritual Beast Apelio from his Banished Zone. He activated the effects of both Apelios to banish Steeds and Ambush from his Graveyard, increasing the ATK of all of his monsters by 1000 each. Next, he fused Apelio and Wen by banishing them, to Summon Ritual Beast Ulti-Apelio. Direct attacks from Spiritual Beast Apelio and both copies of Ritual Beast Ulti-Apelio wiped out all 8000 of Lamont’s Life Points!

Duel Three

 

Lamont started off Duel 3 by activating Reinforcement of the Army and adding Nekroz of Clausolas from his Deck to his hand. He discarded it to add Nekroz Kaleidoscope from his Deck to his hand and then activated his Kaleidoscope. Dodd Chained Maxx “C”. Dodd sent Herald of the Arc Light from his Extra Deck to his Graveyard to Special Summon Nekroz of Unicore from his hand and Dodd drew a card. Next, Lamont used Herald of the Arc Light’s effect to add Nekroz of Brionac from his Deck to his hand. He discarded Nekroz of Brionac from his hand to add another Nekroz of Unicore from his Deck to his hand with Nekroz of Brionac’s effect. Lamont Set a card to his back row before passing his turn.

Dodd had Spiritual Beast Pettlephin, Tempest, Dragon Ruler of Storms, Solemn Warning, Bottomless Trap Hole, Ritual Beast’s Bond, and Anti-Spell Fragrance in his hand going into his first turn. He Set Pettlephin along with 4 cards to his back row.

 

Lamont drew a card and Dodd flipped Anti-Spell Fragrance in his Draw Phase. Next, Lamont discarded Nekroz of Brionac from his hand to add Nekroz of Trishula from his Deck to his hand. Lamont flipped Nekroz Mirror, but Dodd negated it with Solemn Warning by paying 2000 Life Points! Nekroz of Unicore attacked and destroyed Dodd’s face-down Pettlephin, and then Lamont discarded Nekroz of Unicore to add Nekroz Mirror to his hand. He Set 2 cards to his back row before passing.

 

Dodd Set Macro Cosmos to his back row and then passed his turn.

 

Lamont flipped his face-down Nekroz Mirror. Dodd Chained Macro Cosmos, but Lamont Chained his face-down Twister to destroy Macro Cosmos! Lamont Summoned Nekroz of Trishula with his Mirror, and Dodd flipped Bottomless Trap Hole when it activated its effect. Trishula banished Tempest from Dodd’s hand, Pettlephin from his Graveyard, and a face-down Ritual Beast’s Bond from Dodd’s field after being banished by Bottomless Trap Hole. Next, Lamont discarded Nekroz of Clausolas from his hand to add Nekroz Cycle from his Deck to his hand. He attacked directly with Nekroz of Unicore and then Set a card to his back row before passing his turn.
