Archer Boday and Sam Johanson are both local Duelists who play at the same weekly tournament. Now, they’re off to a strong start in the YCS tournament, each carrying a 1-0 record. 13-year-old Archer Boday is using a Ritual Beast Deck that utilizes the new Ritual Beasts from The Secret Forces. Johanson, on the other hand, is using a traditional Qliphort Deck that Pendulum Summons monsters to overwhelm his opponents. Which strategy will prevail? It’s time to Duel!

Duel One

Boday chose to go first and opened up with Snatch Steal, Solemn Warning, Ritual Beast Tamer Elder, Mystical Space Typhoon, and Emergency Teleport. He Set Ritual Beast Tamer Elder along with Mystical Space Typhoon and Solemn Warning before passing his turn.

Johanson activated Qliphort Scout in his Pendulum Zone and paid 800 Life Points to activate its effect; but Boday Chained Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy it and send it to Johanson’s Extra Deck. Next, Johanson activated Summoner’s Art to grab another Scout from his Deck, placed it in his Pendulum Zone, and paid 800 Life Points to add Saqlifice from his Deck to his hand with its effect. He activated Upstart Goblin next, giving Boday 1000 Life Points and allowing Johanson to draw a card. He Set a card to his back row and then activated Storm. He sent his Saqlifice to his Graveyard and his Scout to his Extra Deck to destroy Boday’s face-down Solemn Warning. Next, he added Qliphort Disk to his hand with the effect of his Saqlifice. He activated another Qliphort Scout next and paid 800 Life Points to add Qliphort Monolith from his Deck to his hand with its effect. He placed the Monolith in his Pendulum Zone and then Pendulum Summoned 2 Scouts from his Extra Deck and a Qliphort Carrier from his hand. He Tributed a Scout and a Carrier to Summon Qliphort Disk. He activated his Carrier’s effect to return Boday’s face-down monster to his hand and activated his Disk’s effect to Special Summon a Qliphort Carrier and a Qliphort Helix from his Deck in Attack Position. He attacked directly with his Scout, Disk, Carrier, and Helix, dropping Boday down to 1600 Life Points. In his End Phase, Johanson’s Carrier and Helix were destroyed and sent to the Extra Deck, and Johanson drew 2 cards with his Qliphort Monolith’s effect.

Boday Summoned Ritual Beast Tamer Elder and tried to activate its effect; but Johanson flipped Skill Drain and paid 1000 Life Points to negate it. Next, Boday activated Snatch Steal to take control of Qliphort Disk. Disk attacked and destroyed Scout, sending it to the Extra Deck, and then Ritual Beast Tamer Elder attacked directly. Boday Set a card to his back row before passing his turn.

Johanson Pendulum Summoned 5 monsters to the field next turn, and then Tributed his Helix and his Carrier to Tribute Summon Qliphort Shell. Boday flipped Emergency Teleport to Special Summon Ritual Beast Tamer Lara from his Deck in Defense Position. Johanson used his Helix’s effect to destroy Snatch Steal, and used his Carrier’s effect to return Ritual Beast Tamer Elder to Boday’s hand. Attacks from Johanson’s monsters subsequently wiped out the rest of Boday’s Life Points!

Duel Two

Boday started off Duel 2 with Ritual Beast’s Bond, Dimensional Fissure, Twister, Ritual Beast Tamer Lara, and Spiritual Beast Cannahawk. He activated Dimensional Fissure and Set Twister and Lara.

Johanson activated Summoner’s Art to add Qliphort Scout to his hand and then activated it. He paid 800 Life Points to use its effect, and Boday Chained Twister, giving up 500 Life Points to destroy it and send it to Johanson’s Extra Deck. Johanson Normal Summoned Qliphort Shell next, and then equipped it with Saqlifice. He activated Laser Qlip next, and then Tributed his Shell to Summon Qliphort Disk. He activated the effect of his Disk to Special Summon Qliphort Carrier and Qliphort Helix from his Deck, and used the effect of Saqlifice to add Qliphort Scout to his hand. He activated the Scout’s effect and paid 800 Life Points to add Qliphort Monolith from his Deck to his hand. He placed his Monolith in his Pendulum Zone and then Pendulum Summoned Qliphort Scout from his Extra Deck in Defense Position. Helix attacked Boday’s face-down Lara, costing Johanson 200 Life Points. Next, Disk attacked and destroyed Lara. Carrier attacked directly next, dropping Boday down to 5700 Life Points. In the End Phase, Johanson’s Helix and Carrier were banished, and Johanson drew a card off of the effect of his Monolith.

Boday drew Mystical Space Typhoon and then Set it to his back row along with Ritual Beast’s Bond. He Set Spiritual Beast Cannahawk before ending his turn.

Johanson activated the effect of his Scout by paying 800 Life Points, and Boday Chained Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy the Scout and send it to Johanson’s Extra Deck. Next, Johanson activated Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy Boday’s face-down Ritual Beast’s Bond. Qliphort Disk attacked and destroyed Spiritual Beast Cannahawk next, banishing it from the Duel.

Boday drew Spiritual Beast Apelio and Set it.

Johanson switched his Scout into Attack Position and then attacked Boday’s face-down Apelio with his Scout to destroy it. Disk attacked directly next, dropping Boday down to 3100 Life Points.

Boday drew and Summoned Ritual Beast Tamer Wen. Johanson flipped Vanity’s Emptiness and then Wen attacked and banished Qliphort Scout.

But it was all over on Johanson’s next turn! Johanson activated Snatch Steal to take control of Ritual Beast Tamer Wen and then attacked directly with Wen and Scout to finish Boday off!
