Sohrab Pasikhani is the only Duelist to go undefeated throughout the 10 Swiss Rounds of the tournament. What’s most impressive, however, is the fact that he won all 10 rounds – including yesterday’s Round 7 Feature Match – with a Volcanic Deck. Few Duelists were expecting Volcanic Decks to be a powerful force in this weekend’s tournament, and Pasikhani proved all of those people doubting his Deck’s power wrong. Now, he has made it to the elimination rounds, and will be Dueling against Brian Guerrero and his Burning Abyss Deck in the Top 32. Will Pasikhani’s win streak continue? It’s time to Duel!

Duel One

 

Pasikhani opened up Duel 1 with Phoenix Wing Wind Blast, Volcanic Scattershot, Vanity’s Emptiness, Royal Firestorm Guards, and Blaster, Dragon Ruler of Infernos. He Set both Traps to his back row and passed his turn.

 

 

Guerrero Summoned Tour Guide From the Underworld and activated its effect; but Pasikhani flipped Vanity’s Emptiness to prevent Tour Guide from Special Summoning a monster from the Deck. He attacked directly for 1000 points of damage with Tour Guide and then passed his turn.

 

Pasikhani drew another Volcanic Scattershot and then passed his turn.

 

Guerrero attacked directly with Tour Guide again.

 

Pasikhani drew Mystical Space Typhoon and Set it along with a Royal Firestorm Guards.

 

Guerrero activated Raigeki to destroy the Guards and Vanity’s Emptiness went down with it. He attacked directly with Tour Guide and passed.

 

Pasikhani drew another Vanity’s Emptiness and Set it.

 

Guerrero attacked directly with Tour Guide once more, dropping Pasikhani down to 4000 Life Points. Guerrero discarded Graff in his End Phase since he had 7 cards in his hand, and Pasikhani flipped Vanity’s Emptiness to prevent it from Special Summoning a monster from Guerrero’s Deck.

 

Pasikhani drew a card and Set it.

 

Guerrero attacked directly with Tour Guide and discarded Cir in his End Phase since he had 7 cards in his hand.

 

Pasikhani drew Snatch Steal and passed.

 

Guerrero attacked directly with Tour Guide once more. He discarded Scarm in the End Phase, activated Scarm’s effect to add Tour Guide to his hand, and then discarded Calcab from his hand to send a face-down Mystical Space Typhoon to Guerrero’s hand.

 

Pasikhani Summoned Volcanic Rocket and added Blaze Accelerator Reload to his hand with its effect! He attacked Tour Guide with his Rocket to destroy it. He Set Mystical Space Typhoon and Blaze Accelerator Reload before passing.

 

Guerrero Summoned Tour Guide From the Underworld and activated its effect to Special Summon Graff from his Deck. He combined his 2 monsters to Xyz Summon Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss and then detached Graff to send the top 3 cards of his Deck to his Graveyard. He activated Graff’s effect to Special Summon Farfa, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss from his Deck in Defense Position and then Special Summoned Alich, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss from his hand. He combined Alich with Farfa to Xyz Summon Mechquipped Angineer. Pasikhani flipped Blaze Accelerator Reload and discarded Volcanic Scattershot. He sent another Scattershot from both his hand and his Deck to the Graveyard to destroy Guerrero’s monsters and deal 1500 points of damage to Guerrero; but Guerrero Chained the effect of his Angineer by detaching Farfa to protect his Angineer. Guerrero added Cir to his hand with Dante’s effect when Dante was destroyed.

 

Pasikhani discarded Volcanic Shell to draw a card with Blaze Accelerator Reload and then paid 500 Life Points to search his Deck for another Shell and add it to his hand. He Summoned Royal Firestorm Guards next and sent 4 Pyro monsters back to his Deck to draw 2 cards. Pasikhani activated Snatch Steal next, taking control of the Angineer and switching it into Attack Position.

 

 

He attacked with all three monsters, and then combined his Rocket with his Guards to Xyz Summon Gagaga Cowboy and finish Guerrero off!

Duel Two

 

Guerrero chose to go second in Duel 2. Pasikhani opened up with Magic Planter, Mystical Space Typhoon, Volcanic Shell, and 2 copies of Pot of Duality. He activated Pot of Duality to reveal Fiendish Chain, Maxx “C”, and Volcanic Scattershot from the top of his Deck. He added Maxx “C” to his hand and then Set Mystical Space Typhoon and Pot of Duality before ending his turn.

 

Guerrero Special Summoned Rubic, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss from his hand and Pasikhani Chained Maxx “C” to Rubic’s effect to draw a card. Guerrero Tributed his monster to Summon Majesty’s Fiend next, and attacked directly. Pasikhani activated Mystical Space Typhoon in the End Phase to destroy Guerrero’s face-down Mystical Space Typhoon.

 

 

Pasikhani activated Pot of Duality to get Snatch Steal from the top of his Deck and then activated it to take control of Majesty’s Fiend. He attacked directly with Majesty’s Fiend and then Set Volcanic Shell.

 

Guerrero activated Allure of Darkness to draw 2 cards and banish Rubic from his hand and then activated Mystical Space Typhoon to take his Fiend back. He attacked Pasikhani’s face-down Shell with his Fiend, destroying it.

 

Pasikhani drew a card and Set Maxx “C”.

 

Guerrero attacked Maxx “C” to destroy it with his Fiend.

 

Pasikhani Set a card to each zone and passed.

 

Guerrero attacked with Majesty’s Fiend, but Pasikhani flipped Fiendish Chain to stop the attack. Guerrero Tributed his Fiend to Summon new Majesty’s Fiend in Main Phase 2.

 

Pasikhani activated Magic Planter to draw 2 cards and then Flip Summoned Royal Firestorm Guards. He Summoned Volcanic Rocket and combined it with his Guards to Summon Dark Rebellion Xyz Dragon! He tried to attack Majesty’s Fiend, but lost out to an Enemy Controller switching his Dragon to Defense Position. Pasikhani Set 2 cards before passing.

 

Guerrero tried to attack the Xyz Dragon with Majesty’s Fiend, but Pasikhani flipped another Fiendish Chain to stop the attack. In Main Phase 2, Guerrero Summoned Tour Guide From the Underworld and activated its effect to Special Summon Graff from his Deck. Pasikhani discarded a Volcanic Shell to draw a card thanks to Blaze Accelerator Reload. Guerrero combined Tour Guide with Graff to Xyz Summon Dante and then detached Graff from Dante, sending Graff, Scarm, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss, and a third card to his Graveyard. He activated Graff’s effect to Special Summon Libic, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss and then activated Libic’s effect to Special Summon Cir from his hand.

 

Pasikhani switched his Xyz Dragon back into Attack Position next turn and then entered his Battle Phase. Guerrero flipped Fire Lake of the Burning Abyss to send Dante and Cir to the Graveyard while wiping out Pasikhani’s field! Pasikhani Set Blaze Accelerator Reload before passing.

 

Guerrero attacked directly with Majesty’s Fiend.

 

Pasikhani Set Royal Firestorm Guards and passed.

 

Guerrero attacked with Majesty’s Fiend and then Set a card to his back row.

 

Pasikhani flipped Blaze Accelerator Reload and then activated Wild Fire by paying 500 Life Points; but Guerrero flipped Fairy Wind to end the Duel!

Duel Three

 

Pasikhani opened up Duel 3 with Pot of Duality, Mystical Space Typhoon, Royal Firestorm Guards, Wild Fire, and Vanity’s Emptiness. He activated Pot of Duality, revealing Pot of Duality, Magic Planter, and Vanity’s Emptiness from the top of his Deck. He added the Emptiness to his hand and shuffled the other 2 cards back into his Deck. He Set 2 cards to his back row before passing to Guerrero.

 

Guerrero attempted to Special Summon Cir, but Pasikhani flipped Vanity’s Emptiness to stop it. He Set a monster and Set 3 cards to his back row instead.

 

Pasikhani Summoned Royal Firestorm Guards and attacked into a face-down Scarm, losing 300 Life Points.

 

Guerrero activated Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy Pasikhani’s face-down Vanity’s Emptiness, and Pasikhani lost his other Emptiness when his first one hit the Graveyard. Guerrero Summoned Cir, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss and then combined it with Scarm to Xyz Summon Dante in Attack Position. He detached Scarm to send 3 cards from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard and then attacked Royal Firestorm Guards to destroy it. He switched Dante to Defense Position at the end of the Battle Phase and then added Tour Guide From the Underworld to his hand with Scarm’s effect in the End Phase.

 

Pasikhani drew Volcanic Rocket and Summoned it. He activated its effect to add Blaze Accelerator Reload to his hand. He Set 2 cards to his back row and then passed.

 

Guerrero detached Cir from Dante and sent 3 cards from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard. He activated Cir’s effect to Special Summon Scarm from his Graveyard in Defense Position and then Normal Summoned another Scarm. He combined both Scarms to Xyz Summon another Dante and then detached Scarm to send 3 more cards, including a Graff, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss, from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard with Dante’s effect. He Special Summoned Farfa from his Deck in Attack Position with Graff’s effect. Pasikhani flipped Blaze Accelerator Reload and Guerrero flipped Fairy Wind; but Pasikhani Chained Wild Fire and paid 500 Life Points to try to destroy his own Blaze Accelerator Reload along with all monsters on the field! Guerrero Chained Fire Lake of the Burning Abyss to the Wild Fire and sent 2 of his monsters to the Graveyard to destroy Pasikhani’s Rocket and face-down Mystical Space Typhoon. When the Chain resolved, all cards on the field were sent to the Graveyard! Guerrero used the effects of his Dantes to add Alich, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss and Libic, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss from his Graveyard to his hand and Pasikhani Special Summoned a Wild Fire Token to the field in Attack Position. Guerrero Special Summoned Libic and Alich from his hand. Pasikhani banished Blaze Accelerator Reload from his Graveyard to send Volcanic Scattershot from his Deck to his Graveyard and then sent 1 more from his hand and his Deck to the Graveyard to destroy Guerrero’s 2 monsters and deal 1500 points of damage to Guerrero. Guerrero activated Raigeki to destroy the Wild Fire Token and then Guerrero added Cir to his hand with Scarm’s effect in the End Phase.

 

Pasikhani drew Volcanic Shell and Set it.

 

Guerrero Summoned Tour Guide From the Underworld and activated its effect to Special Summon Graff, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss from his Deck. He combined Graff with Tour Guide to Xyz Summon Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss and activated Dante’s effect by detaching Graff to send 3 cards from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard, including Farfa. He used Farfa’s effect to banish Shell from the field until the End Phase, and then Special Summoned Rubic from his Deck with Graff’s effect. Next, he Special Summoned Scarm from his hand. He combined Scarm with Rubic to Xyz Summon Number 30: Acid Golem. Direct attacks from Number 30: Acid Golem and Dante wiped out Pasikhani’s last 5200 Life Points!
