Vincent Riccardi and Nathanael Patton are both 12-year-old Duelists from North Carolina, and each of them took first place in one of this weekend’s Dragon Duel tournaments. In order to win their respective tournaments, each Duelist constructed a Deck out of cards from packs of Battle Pack 3: Monster League, and used that Deck to defeat several other young Duelists. But now, Riccardi and Patton are facing off using their Advanced Format Decks, in a Duel that will determine which one of them becomes the ultimate Dragon Duel Championship winner of the weekend. It’s time to Duel!

Duel One

 

Riccardi won the die roll and chose to go second. Patton opened up with Djinn Demolisher of Rituals, Hidden Armory, Gorz the Emissary of Darkness, Cir, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss, and Scarm, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss. He Normal Summoned Scarm and then Special Summoned Cir. He combined Scarm with Cir to Xyz Summon Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss in Defense Position and then detached Scarm from Dante to send the top 3 cards of his Deck to his Graveyard. In his End Phase, he added Tour Guide From the Underworld from his Deck to his hand with Scarm’s effect.

 

Riccardi Summoned Qliphort Helix and equipped it with 2 copies of Saqlifice. Next, he played Qliphort Shell to his Pendulum Zone. He attacked Dante with Helix, not realizing his ATK were lower than Dante’s DEF, and lost 100 Life Points.

 

Patton drew Fire Lake of the Burning Abyss and then Summoned Tour Guide From the Underworld. He activated its effect to Special Summon Graff, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss from his Deck in Attack Position. Next, he combined Graff with Tour Guide to Xyz Summon Dante in Attack Position. He switched his other Dante into Attack Position and then detached Graff from Dante to send the top 3 cards – including Djinn Releaser of Rituals – from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard. He activated his Graff’s effect to Special Summon Cagma from his Deck in Defense Position. Next, he detached Cir from his other Dante, and sent Cagma, Libic, and Tour Guide From the Underworld from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard. He activated Cir’s effect to Special Summon Rubic in Defense Position and activated Cagna’s effect to send Good & Evil in the Burning Abyss from his Deck to his Graveyard. Next, he Tuned Rubic with Cagma to Synchro Summon Virgil, Rock Star of the Burning Abyss in Attack Position. He Set Fire Lake of the Burning Abyss and Hidden Armory to his back row and then ended his turn without attacking, with both Dantes and Virgil all in Attack Position.

 

Riccardi activated Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy Patton’s face-down Hidden Armory and then activated Qliphort Monolith. He Tributed Helix to Summon Qliphort Shell, and Riccardi activated Fire Lake of the Burning Abyss to send his 2 Dantes to the Graveyard and destroy Shell and the Monolith in the Pendulum Zone. Riccardi added Qliphort Monolith and Qliphort Stealth to his hand with the 2 copies of Saqlifices that were sent to the Graveyard. Patton added Cir and Good & Evil in the Burning Abyss to his hand with the effects of his Dantes. Riccardi played another Pendulum to his Pendulum Zone and then Pendulum Summoned Qliphort Shell, Qliphort Monolith, and Qliphort Helix to his field in Defense Position.

 

Patton discarded Cir from his hand to activate Virgil’s effect and shuffle Monolith from his opponent’s field back into his opponent’s Deck. Patton activated his Cir’s effect to Special Summon Cagma from his Deck in Defense Position. Patton Set a monster next, causing Cagma to self-destruct. Patton activated its effect to send Good & Evil in the Burning Abyss from his Deck to his Graveyard. Virgil attacked and destroyed Helix, sending it to Riccardi’s Extra Deck, and then Patton ended his turn.

 

Patton discarded Maxx “C”. Riccardi performed a Pendulum Summon to fill up his field with 4 Defense Position Pendulum Monsters, allowing Patton to draw a card. Next, Riccardi Tributed 2 of his monsters to Summon Qliphort Stealth. He used the effect of his Tributed Carrier to return Virgil to Patton’s Extra Deck and then used Stealth’s effect to return Patton’s face-down monster to his hand. Stealth attacked directly next, and Patton Special Summoned Gorz, followed by an Emissary of Darkness Token! Patton drew 2 more cards thanks to Maxx “C”.

 

Patton banished Good & Evil from his Graveyard to send Cir from his hand to his Graveyard and add Malacoda, Netherlord of the Burning Abyss to his hand. He Special Summoned Libic with Cir’s effect, and Libic self-destructed, allowing Patton to Special Summon Scarm from his hand. Next, he Normal Summoned Djinn Demolisher of Rituals. He combined Scarm with his Djinn to Xyz Summon Number 20: Giga-Brilliant and then detached his Djinn to activate Giga-Brilliant’s effect and increase the ATK of his monsters. Next, he activated Good & Evil in the Burning Abyss by banishing Demolisher and Releaser from his Graveyard, and Special Summoned Malacoda to the field! Patton attacked Stealth with his Token, destroying both monsters, and Patton’s other monsters cleared Riccardi’s field, followed by a direct attack from Malacoda that dropped Riccardi down to 5500 Life Points.

 

Riccardi Summoned Qliphort Disk and then attacked Number 20, destroying both monsters in battle. The Scarm attached to Number 20: Giga-Brilliant as an Xyz Material was sent to the Graveyard, so Patton added Tour Guide From the Underworld from his Deck to his hand in his End Phase with Scarm’s effect.

 

Patton Summoned Tour Guide From the Underworld next turn and activated its effect to Special Summon Scarm from his Deck in Attack Position. Direct attacks from Malacoda, Scarm, Tour Guide, and Gorz wiped out Riccardi’s last 5500 Life Points!

Duel Two

 

Patton Summoned Tour Guide From the Underworld and activated its effect to Special Summon Graff, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss from his Deck. He combined his 2 monsters to Xyz Summon Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss in Defense Position and then detached Graff from Dante to send the top 3 cards of his Graveyard – Libic, Malacoda, and Good & Evil in the Burning Abyss – to the Graveyard. He activated Libic’s effect to Special Summon Cir from his hand and activated Graff’s effect to Special Summon Cagna from his Deck. He combined Cir with Cagna to Xyz Summon another Dante in Defense Position and detached Cagna from Dante to send Tour Guide, Djinn Demolisher of Rituals, and Karma Cut from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard. He activated Cagna’s effect to send Good & Evil from his Deck to his Graveyard. He Set 3 cards to his back row before ending his turn.

 

Riccardi activated Summoner’s Art to add Qliphort Scout to his hand and placed it in his Pendulum Zone. He paid 800 Life Points to activate its effect, but lost out when Patton flipped Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy it! Riccardi activated Snatch Steal next, taking control of Dante. He activated The Monarchs Stormforth and Patton Chained Fairy Wind to destroy Snatch Steal and The Monarchs Stormforth, deal 600 points of damage to both players, and take back his Dante. Next, Riccardi Tributed Patton’s Dante to Summon Majesty’s Fiend.

Patton drew Beginning of the End. He activated it and banished 5 DARK monsters from his Graveyard to draw Cir, Graff, and Phoenix Wing Wind Blast. He Set Phoenix Wing Wind Blast and then ended his turn.

 

Riccardi passed once again without making a play.

 

Patton activated Phoenix Wing Wind Blast and discarded Fire Lake of the Burning Abyss to send Majesty’s Fiend to the top of Riccardi’s Deck. Next, he banished Good & Evil from his Graveyard to send Cir from his hand to his Graveyard and add Scarm from his Deck to his hand. He activated Cir’s effect to Special Summon Dante from his Graveyard in Attack Position. Next, he attacked with both Dantes, dropping Riccardi down to 4600 Life Points. Both Dantes switched into Defense Position at the end of the Battle Phase and Patton detached an Xyz Material from Dante to send Djinn Releaser of Rituals, Cagna, and Rubic from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard in Main Phase 2.

Patton activated Fire Lake of the Burning Abyss and sent both of his Dantes to the Graveyard to destroy Riccardi’s face-down Vanity’s Emptiness. He added Good & Evil and Malacoda from his Graveyard to his hand with his Dantes’ effect. Next, he activated Good & Evil and banished Djinn Releaser of Rituals and Djinn Demolisher of Rituals from his Graveyard to Special Summon Malacoda from his hand! He Summoned Tour Guide From the Underworld next and activated its effect to Special Summon Scarm from his Graveyard. He combined Scarm with Tour Guide to Summon Number 20: Giga-Brilliant and then Flip Summoned Scarm, which was destroyed by its own effect. He detached Scarm from Giga-Brilliant to activate Giga-Brilliant’s effect and then attacked with Malacoda; but Riccardi discarded Swift Scarecrow from his hand to end the Battle Phase. Patton added Graff, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss from his Deck to his hand during his End Phase with Scarm’s effect.

 

Riccardi activated Summoner’s Art to add Qliphort Scout to his hand and then activated it. He paid 800 Life Points to try to use its effect, but Patton flipped Fairy Wind to destroy it and inflict 300 points of damage to each player. Riccardi activated Qliphort Shell in his Pendulum Zone next, and then Normal Summoned Qliphort Carrier. He attacked Number 20: Giga-Brilliant with his Carrier, destroying both monsters in battle.

 

Patton Set Karma Cut, Summoned Graff, and then attacked with Malacoda; but Riccardi discarded Swift Scarecrow from his hand to block Riccardi’s attacks once again.

Patton Summoned Graff and combined it with his other Graff to Xyz Summon Ghostrick Alucard. He activated Alucard’s effect to destroy Riccardi’s face-down monster and then attacked directly with Malacoda and Alucard to finish Patton off!
