Boston, Massachusetts’s Parker Nguyen is Dueling against Racine, Wisconsin’s Brandon Patrick in our first Round 1 Feature Match this weekend! Nguyen is using a HERO Deck that takes full advantage of Elemental HERO Shadow Mist (from the Hero Strike Structure Deck) to grab the HERO monsters and Mask Change cards that overwhelm his opponents. Patrick is using a Qliphort Deck, which was recently weakened by the April 1st Forbidden & Limited List. Will Parker Nguyen’s new-age HERO Deck be able to take on Brandon Patrick’s Qliphorts? We’re about to find out. It’s time to Duel!

Duel One

 

Patrick won the die roll and chose to go second.

 

 

Nguyen started off Duel 1 with Destiny Draw, Shaddoll Dragon, Plaguespreader Zombie, and 2 copies of Elemental HERO Bubbleman.

 

 

He Set Shaddoll Dragon before passing his turn.

 

Patrick activated Upstart Goblin, allowing him to draw a card and give Nguyen 1000 Life Points. Next, he Normal Summoned Qliphort Carrier. He Set a card to his back row and then passed his turn.

 

Nguyen drew another copy of Destiny Draw. He Flip Summoned Shaddoll Dragon and activated its effect to return Patrick’s back row to his hand. Next, he Normal Summoned Elemental HERO Bubbleman! He combined Bubbleman with Shaddoll Dragon to Xyz Summon Lavalval Chain and then detached Bubbleman from his Lavalval Chain to activate its effect and send Elemental HERO Shadow Mist from his Deck to his Graveyard. Next, he activated Shadow Mist’s effect to add Destiny HERO – Malicious from his Deck to his hand. He activated Destiny Draw next, discarding Malicious to draw Mystical Space Typhoon and Goblindbergh from his Deck. He Set Mystical Space Typhoon and Destiny Draw before passing his turn.

 

Patrick Tributed his Qliphort Carrier to Summon Vanity’s Fiend and activated his Tributed Carrier’s effect to return Lavalval Chain to Nguyen’s Extra Deck. Next, Vanity’s Fiend attacked directly, dropping Patrick down to 6600 Life Points. Patrick Set Qlimate Change to his back row before passing his turn, and Nguyen flipped Mystical Space Typhoon in his End Phase to destroy Qlimate Change.

 

Nguyen drew Call of the Haunted and Set it along with a Plaguespreader Zombie.

 

Patrick Normal Summoned Qliphort Disk and attacked Nguyen’s face-down Plaguespreader Zombie with his Disk to destroy it. Next, Vanity’s Fiend attacked directly, dropping Patrick down to 4200 Life Points.

 

Nguyen drew Reinforcement of the Army and activated its effect to add Destiny HERO – Diamond Dude to his hand. He flipped his face-down Destiny Draw next, discarding Diamond Dude to draw Soul Charge and Bottomless Trap Hole. He Set Bubbleman and Bottomless Trap Hole before passing his turn. Patrick activated Soul Transition in Nguyen’s End Phase to Tribute Qliphort Disk and draw 2 cards.

 

Patrick activated Summoner’s Art and added Qliphort Scout to his hand. He activated the Scout and used its effect to pay 800 Life Points and add Qliphort Helix from his Deck to his hand. Next, he placed Performapal Trampolynx in his other Pendulum Zone. He Normal Summoned Qliphort Helix next, and Nguyen flipped Bottomless Trap Hole to banish it. Vanity’s Fiend attacked next, destroying Nguyen’s face-down Bubbleman. Patrick Set a card to his back row before passing his turn.

 

Nguyen drew Vanity’s Emptiness and Set it along with Goblindbergh.

 

Patrick activated Upstart Goblin to draw a card and give Nguyen 1000 Life Points. Next, he Summoned Qliphort Helix. He attacked Goblindbergh with his Helix to destroy it and then attacked directly with Vanity’s Fiend, dropping Nguyen down to 2800 Life Points. In Main Phase 2, Patrick paid 800 Life Points to activate the effect of his Qliphort Scout and add Qliphort Carrier to his hand.

 

Nguyen drew Mystical Space Typhoon next turn. He conceded, with no opportunity to Special Summon due to the effect of Vanity’s Fiend.

Duel Two

 

Nguyen started off Duel 1 with A Hero Lives, Destiny HERO – Malicious, Elemental HERO Shadow Mist, Destiny Draw, and Compulsory Evacuation Device.

 

 

Nguyen started off his first turn by paying 4000 Life Points to activate A Hero Lives! He Special Summoned Elemental HERO Shadow Mist and activated its effect to add Mask Change from his Deck to his hand. Next, he activated Destiny Draw and discarded Destiny HERO – Malicious to draw Raigeki and Reinforcement of the Army. He Normal Summoned Elemental HERO Shadow Mist next and then Set Compulsory Evacuation Device, Mask Change, and Raigeki. He activated Reinforcement of the Army, adding Elemental HERO Bubbleman from his Deck to his hand. He Special Summoned it in Defense Position and then combined Shadow Mist with Bubbleman to Xyz Summon Lavalval Chain. He detached Bubbleman to activate his Chain’s effect and send Plaguespreader Zombie from his Deck to his Graveyard. Nguyen ended his turn with an empty hand.

 

 

Patrick activated Upstart Goblin to draw a card and boost Nguyen to 5000 Life Points. He Summoned Qliphort Carrier next, and attacked Elemental HERO Shadow Mist. Nguyen flipped Mask Change to send Shadow Mist to the Graveyard and Special Summon Masked HERO Dark Law. Nguyen added Elemental HERO Bubbleman from his Deck to his hand with Shadow Mist’s effect. Patrick Set 3 cards to his back row and then passed his turn.

 

Nguyen activated his Chain’s effect by detaching Shadow Mist to send Shaddoll Dragon from his Deck to his Graveyard. He activated his Dragon’s effect to destroy Patrick’s face-down Soul Transition, and activated Shadow Mist’s effect to add Destiny HERO – Diamond Dude from his Deck to his hand. He Summoned Diamond Dude next, and activated its effect to reveal Forbidden Lance from the top of his Deck and return it to the bottom of his Deck. Next, he put Mask Change from his hand to the top of his Deck to Special Summon Plaguespreader Zombie from his Graveyard. He Special Summoned Bubbleman next. He combined Bubbleman with Diamond Dude to Xyz Summon Cairngorgon, Antiluminescent Knight in Attack Position. He banished Malicious from his Graveyard to Special Summon another copy from his Deck and then Tuned Malicious with Plaguespreader Zombie to Synchro Summon Void Ogre Dragon! He flipped Raigeki next, and Patrick Chained Soul Transition to Tribute his Carrier and try to draw 2 cards. Nguyen negated the effect of Soul Transition with Void Ogre Dragon, and Patrick used his Tributed Carrier’s effect to return Void Ogre Dragon to the Extra Deck. Direct attacks from Lavalval Chain, Masked HERO Dark Law, and Cairngorgon, Antiluminescent Knight dropped Patrick down to 1350 Life Points.

 

Patrick placed Qliphort Scout in his Pendulum Zone and paid 800 Life Points to activate its effect and add Qliphort Carrier to his hand. Dark Law’s effect activated to randomly banish the Carrier from Nguyen’s hand. Next, Patrick placed Qliphort Monolith in his Pendulum Zone. He Pendulum Summoned Qliphort Helix next, and then ended his turn. Nguyen activated Compulsory Evacuation Device to return Helix to Patrick’s hand in the End Phase, and Patrick conceded.

 

 

Parker Nguyen pays 4000 Life Points on his first turn to activate A Hero Lives and builds up a dominating field because of it! The Match is moving on to a third Duel!

 

 

Duel Three

 

Nguyen opened up Duel 3 with Destiny Draw, Elemental HERO Shadow Mist, Summoner Monk, Plaguespreader Zombie, and Foolish Burial.

 

 

He Summoned Summoner Monk, switched it into Defense Position with its effect, and then discarded Destiny Draw from his hand to activate its effect and Special Summon Elemental HERO Shadow Mist from his Deck. He activated Shadow Mist’s effect to add Mask Change from his Deck to his hand and then Set Mask Change.

 

Patrick Normal Summoned Qliphort Helix and then played Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon in his Pendulum Zone. He attacked Summoner Monk with his Helix to destroy it and then Set a card to his back row. In his End Phase, he used the effect of his Odd-Eyes to have it destroy itself, and Nguyen flipped Mask Change to transform his Shadow Mist into Dark Law! Patrick added Qliphort Scout to his hand with the effect of Odd-Eyes, and Dark Law randomly banished Qliphort Disk from Patrick’s hand. Nguyen added Elemental HERO Bubbleman to his hand with the effect of his Shadow Mist.

 

Nguyen activated Foolish Burial to send Shaddoll Dragon to his Graveyard and activated his Dragon’s effect to destroy Patrick’s face-down Mystical Space Typhoon. Next, Nguyen Normal Summoned Shadow Mist. Dark Law attacked and destroyed Helix, and then Shadow Mist attacked directly, dropping Patrick down to 6400 Life Points. Nguyen Set Call of the Haunted before ending his turn.

 

Patrick played Qliphort Scout in his Pendulum Zone and then played Qliphort Monolith in his second Pendulum Zone. He Pendulum Summoned Qliphort Helix in Defense Position and then ended his turn.

 

Nguyen drew Elemental HERO Bubbleman. He Summoned Plaguespreader Zombie and then activated Call of the Haunted to Special Summon Elemental HERO Shadow Mist from his Graveyard. He activated Elemental HERO Shadow Mist’s effect to add Mask Change to his hand and then combined both Shadow Mists to Xyz Summon Lavalval Chain. He detached an Xyz Material to send Malicious from his Deck to his Graveyard with his Chain’s effect and then banished Malicious from his Graveyard to Special Summon another Malicious from his Deck. He Tuned Malicious with Plaguespreader Zombie to Synchro Summon Scrap Dragon and then placed Elemental HERO Bubbleman on top of his Deck to Special Summon Plaguespreader Zombie back from his Graveyard. He banished Malicious from his Graveyard to Special Summon another Malicious from his Deck and then Tuned Malicious with Plaguespreader Zombie to Synchro Summon Void Ogre Dragon. He Set Mask Change, Special Summoned Elemental HERO Bubbleman in Attack Position, and then attacked Qliphort Helix with Lavalval Chain to destroy it in battle. Direct attacks from Elemental HERO Dark Law, Scrap Dragon, Void Ogre Dragon, and Elemental HERO Bubbleman finished off the rest of Patrick’s Life Points!
