Marcus Carisse from Toronto and Jordan Bermudez from Kentucky are both currently 8-1 in this weekend’s YCS tournament. Both Duelists and Decks seem well-equipped to beat Nekroz Decks – Carisse has Dueled against 5 Nekroz Decks and defeated all of them this weekend, while Bermudez has Dueled against 7 Nekroz Decks and only lost to 1. But neither one of these Duelists will be facing off against a Nekroz Deck in this round. Carisse is using a Satellarknight Deck, while Bermudez is Dueling with Shaddolls. Both of these Decks have a somewhat similar style, as they both aim to gradually gain the upper hand through the effects of their monsters; but only one of these Decks – and one of these Duelists – will enter the final Swiss Round with a 9-1 record and an incredible shot at a Top 32 finish. It’s time to Duel!

Duel One

 

Bermudez won the die roll and chose to go second.

 

Carisse opened up with Fiendish Chain, Oasis of Dragon Souls, Satellarknight Rigel, Book of Moon, and Satellarknight Vega.

 

 

Carisse Set 4 cards to his back row and passed his turn.

 

Bermudez Set 4 cards to his back row and passed as well.

 

Carisse passed his turn once again, and Bermudez flipped Sinister Shadow Games in his End Phase. He sent Shaddoll Squamata to the Graveyard and then used Squamata’s effect to send Shaddoll Falco to his Graveyard and Special Summon it face-down.

 

Bermudez Flip Summoned Shaddoll Falco and activated its effect to Special Summon Squamata from his Graveyard face-down. He attacked directly with Falco and then Tributed Shaddoll Falco to Set a monster.

 

Carisse Summoned Satellarknight Vega and activated its effect to Special Summon Satellarknight Rigel from his hand. He combined Vega with Rigel to Xyz Summon Lavalval Chain and then activated his Chain’s effect by detaching Vega to send Satellarknight Deneb from his Deck to his Graveyard. Lavalval Chain attacked Carisse’s face-down Squamata and then Squamata’s Flip Effect destroyed Lavalval Chain. Carisse Set Fiendish Chain before passing his turn.

 

Bermudez Flip Summoned Shaddoll Beast but lost out on its effect to Carisse’s Fiendish Chain. He Set a monster and then passed his turn. In his End Phase, Carisse flipped Oasis of Dragon Souls to Special Summon Deneb; but Bermudez countered Deneb’s effect by activating Mistake!

 

Carisse switched Deneb into Attack Position and attacked Bermudez’s face-down Shaddoll Hedgehog to destroy it in battle.

 

Bermudez Summoned Shaddoll Squamata and then switched his Beast into Defense Position. He attacked Deneb with Squamata to destroy it in battle.

 

Carisse Summoned Satellarknight Altair and activated its effect to Special Summon Satellarknight Rigel from his Graveyard. He activated Rigel’s effect to increase the ATK of Altair and then activated Soul Charge and paid 2000 Life Points to Special Summon Deneb and Vega from his Graveyard. Next, he combined Rigel, Deneb, and Vega to Xyz Summon Stellarknight Triverr in Defense Position! He activated its effect to return all cards on the field to their owners’ hands and then detached an Xyz Material from it to discard Mirror Force from Bermudez’s hand. He Set 4 cards before passing his turn.

 

Bermudez drew a card and then Carisse activated Mind Crush, forcing Bermudez to discard 2 copies of Mistake. Bermudez Set 2 cards to his back row and Set a monster before passing.

 

Carisse Summoned Altair and activated its effect to Special Summon Deneb from his Graveyard. Next, he activated Deneb’s effect to add Altair to his hand. He combined Altair with Deneb to Xyz Summon Abyss Dweller and then detached an Xyz Material from Abyss Dweller to activate its effect. Next, he activated Triverr’s effect to discard Artifact Lancea from Bermudez’s hand. He activated Raigeki to destroy Bermudez’s face-down Squamata and then attacked directly with Triverr. He upgraded Triverr to Stellarknight Constellar Diamond in Main Phase 2 and then passed his turn.

 

Bermudez Summoned Shaddoll Squamata and then ended his turn.

 

Carisse Summoned Satellarknight Unukalhai and activated its effect to send Deneb to the Graveyard. He attacked Squamata with Stellarknight Constellar Diamond and then attacked directly with Abyss Dweller and Unukalhai to drop Bermudez down to 1500 Life Points.

 

Bermudez activated Shaddoll Core to Special Summon it and then Tributed it to Set Shaddoll Beast.

 

Carisse attacked the face-down Beast with his Stellarknight Constellar Diamond and then negated the Beast’s Flip Effect by detaching an Xyz Material from Diamond. He attacked with Unukalhai next, and Bermudez flipped Shaddoll Core to Special Summon it in Defense Position and block the attack. Bermudez Set a card to his back row in Main Phase 2.

 

Bermudez activated El Shaddoll Fusion, but when Carisse flipped Solemn Warning and gave up 2000 Life Points to negate it, Bermudez promptly conceded.

Duel Two

 

Carisse opened up Duel 2 with Soul Charge, Shadow-Imprisoning Mirror, Vanity’s Emptiness, Satellarknight Deneb, and Stellarnova Alpha. He Summoned Deneb and activated its effect to add Altair to his hand. Next, he Set Shadow-Imprisoning Mirror, Vanity’s Emptiness, and Stellarnova Alpha.

 

 

Bermudez Summoned Mathematician and activated its effect; but Carisse flipped Stellarnova Alpha to Tribute Deneb, negate the effect, destroy the Mathematician, and draw a card. Next, Bermudez activated Shaddoll Fusion and Carisse Chained Shadow-Imprisoning Mirror! Bermudez sent Shaddoll Hedgehog and Effect Veiler from his hand to his Graveyard to Special Summon El Shaddoll Construct and then used his Construct’s effect to send Shaddoll Core from his Deck to his Graveyard. He used his Core’s effect to add Shaddoll Fusion from his Graveyard to his hand. Bermudez attacked directly with El Shaddoll Construct and then Set 2 cards to his back row.

 

Carisse Summoned Satellarknight Altair and activated its effect to Special Summon Deneb from his Graveyard. He tried to activate its effect, but Bermudez flipped Mistake to stop it! Next, Carisse combined Altair with Deneb to Summon Castel, the Skyblaster Musketeer and detached both Xyz Materials from it to return El Shaddoll Construct to the Extra Deck. Carisse Set 2 cards to his back row before passing.

 

 

Bermudez Summoned Denko Sekka and then activated Shaddoll Fusion. He fused Shaddoll Squamata and Peropero Cerperus from his Deck to Summon El Shaddoll Shekhinaga. He attacked Castel with Shekhinaga to destroy it and then attacked directly with Denko Sekka.

 

Carisse activated Soul Charge! He paid 2000 Life Points to Special Summon Deneb and Altair from his Graveyard, dropping down to 900 Life Points, and then combined Altair with Deneb to Xyz Summon Castel, the Skyblaster Musketeer in Defense Position. He activated its effect, but when Bermudez discarded Shaddoll Fusion from his hand to negate its effect and destroy the Castel with Shekhinaga, Carisse conceded.

Duel Three

 

Bermudez started off Duel 3 by simply passing his turn without making a play.

 

 

Carisse opened up Duel 3 with Reinforcement of the Army, Satellarknight Rigel, Satellarknight Unukalhai, Fiendish Chain, and 2 copies of Mystical Space Typhoon. He activated Reinforcement of the Army to add Satellarknight Deneb to his hand and then Summoned it and activated its effect to add Satellarknight Altair to his hand. He attacked directly with Deneb to drop Bermudez down to 6500 Life Points and then Set Mystical Space Typhoon and Fiendish Chain to his back row.

 

Bermudez Summoned Denko Sekka. He activated Shaddoll Fusion next, fusing Effect Veiler and Shaddoll Squamata from his hand to Summon El Shaddoll Construct. He used Squamata’s effect to send Falco to the Graveyard and Construct’s effect to send Shaddoll Hedgehog to his Graveyard. He used his Hedgehog’s effect to add Shaddoll Beast to his hand and Shaddoll Falco’s effect to Special Summon it to the field face-down. Next, Denko Sekka attacked and destroyed Deneb, and El Shaddoll Construct attacked directly. Then, he fused his Construct with the Beast in his hand by using El Shaddoll Fusion and Fusion Summoned El Shaddoll Winda. He drew a card with his Beast’s effect. He attacked directly with El Shaddoll Winda to drop Carisse down to 2800 Life Points.

 

Carisse Summoned Satellarknight Unukalhai and activated its effect to send Satellarknight Vega from his Deck to his Graveyard. He attacked Denko Sekka with Unukalhai to destroy it and then passed his turn.

 

Bermudez attacked Unukalhai with Winda, destroying it in battle and dropping Carisse down to 2400 Life Points. He activated El Shaddoll Fusion next, fusing Winda and Shaddoll Beast to Special Summon another Winda. He drew a card with his Beast’s effect and added El Shaddoll Fusion to his hand with Winda’s effect. He attacked directly with Winda, but Carisse flipped Fiendish Chain to stop the attack. Bermudez Flip Summoned El Shaddoll Falco in Main Phase 2 and activated its effect to Special Summon Shaddoll Hedgehog from his Graveyard face-down. Next, he Tuned Falco with Winda to Synchro Summon Arcanite Magician. He removed both Spell Counters from it to destroy both of Carisse’s face-down Mystical Space Typhoons and then Set 2 cards to his back row.

 

Carisse drew a card and then Bermudez flipped Crush Card Virus! He Tributed his Hedgehog to infect Carisse’s monsters! Carisse lost 2 copies of Satellarknight Altair and Satellarknight Rigel from his hand and then sent 3 more Satellarknights from his Deck to his Graveyard. He Set Mystical Space Typhoon to his back row and passed his turn with an empty hand.

Carisse drew and Summoned Satellarknight Altair. He activated its effect to Special Summon Satellarknight Rigel from his Graveyard in Defense Position. He activated Rigel’s effect to increase the ATK of Altair and then attacked Arcanite Magician. Bermudez flipped El Shaddoll Fusion to fuse Arcanite Magician with the Shaddoll Dragon in his hand and Special Summon El Shaddoll Construct. Construct’s effect targeted Carisse’s Mystical Space Typhoon for destruction, and Carisse Chained it to destroy Bermudez’s Mistake. Carisse added Shaddoll Squamata to his hand with the effect of Construct. Next, Carisse combined Altair with Rigel to Xyz Summon Number 39: Utopia and passed his turn.

 

Bermudez activated Shaddoll Fusion and sent Shaddoll Squamata and Peropero Cerperus to his Graveyard to Special Summon El Shaddoll Shekhinaga. Carisse immediately conceded, realizing he was beaten.
