As a VIP Duelist, one of the perks is that you get two free wins in the YCS. Craig Burke is one of those Duelists, but now he’s got to get in and Duel with everybody else! He’s using Burning Abyss today, facing off against the Yosenju Deck piloted by his opponent, David Huss! One uses a ton of Special Summons, the other gets extra Normal Summons – which will come out on top?
Huss began the Duel with Pot of Duality, revealing Raigeki, Yosenju Kama 3, and Traptrix Myrmeleo. He took Myrmeleo played it to add Traptrix Trap Hole Nightmare to his hand. He Set five cards to his back row.
Burke had a hand of Graff, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss; Cir, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss; Solemn Warning; Majesty’s Fiend; Mask Change II; and Rubic, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss. He activated Rubic’s effect, and Huss Chained Mind Crush! Rubic was discarded before it could be Summoned. Burke continued by using Cir’s effect to Special Summon itself, then Tributed it for Majesty’s Fiend. He attacked, Huss activated Mirror Force, and Burke used Mask Change II to swap Majesty’s Fiend for Masked HERO Koga in Defense Position! He discarded Graff for Mask Change II, and Graff Special Summoned Scarm, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss from the Deck. Since he controlled a monster that was not of the Burning Abyss, Scarm was destroyed by its own effect. Burke Set Solemn Warning, and in the End Phase, he got Tour Guide From the Underworld with Scarm’s effect.
Huss Set a back row card.
Burke drew Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning. He Normal Summoned Tour Guide, which Special Summoned Graff from the Deck with its effect negated. He stacked Graff and Tour Guide for Ghostrick Alucard! He activated Alucard’s effect, targeting a back row card, and Huss Chained it – Traptrix Trap Hole Nightmare! Alucard went down. The Graff that was attached to it activated, bringing Scarm to the field, and it was immediately destroyed by its own effect. Burke moved to the Battle Phase, and Masked HERO Koga was hit by Huss’s Fiendish Chain. In the End Phase, Scarm added Farfa, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss to Burke’s hand.
Huss Set a back row card.
Burke drew Mind Crush. He Normal Summoned Farfa, which destroyed itself, and it banished Koga for the turn. Next, Burke banished Tour Guide and Majesty’s Fiend to Special Summon Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning! It attacked, and was blasted by Ring of Destruction! Both players took 3000 damage! In the End Phase, Koga returned, now free of Fiendish Chain.
Huss passed.
Burke drew Karma Cut. Koga attacked Myrmeleo, finally taking it down.
Huss Set a monster.
Burke drew Mathematician and Normal Summoned it, sending his third Scarm to the Graveyard. Koga attacked, destroying Huss’s Set Thunder King Rai-Oh, and Mathematician attacked directly. Huss had 3500 Life Points remaining. Burke Set Karma Cut. In the End Phase, Scarm’s effect gave him Cir.
Huss Normal Summoned Yosenju Tsujik. It used its effect on itself, but when it attacked into Karma Cut, Huss knew the Duel was over! He couldn’t seem to draw anything but Trap Cards, and Burke was able to slowly overcome them all! Huss went immediately to the Side Deck, looking for an answer to the Burning Abyss.
Duel 2
Huss started this time with Pot of Duality, revealing Mystical Space Typhoon, Solemn Warning, and Yosenju Kama 2. He took Solemn Warning. Next, Fire Formation – Tenki gave him Yosenju Kama 1. He Set two to his back row.
Burke had Mystical Space Typhoon, Book of Moon, Foolish Burial, 2 Cir, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss, and Farfa, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss. He Normal Summoned Cir and attacked directly. In Main Phase 2, he used Foolish Burial to put Graff, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss in the Graveyard, which Special Summoned Scarm, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss in Defense Position. He Set Book of Moon and Mystical Space Typhoon to finish.
Huss started with Yosenju Kama 2, followed by Yosenju Kama 3 and Yosenju Kama 1. Burke chose to use Book of Moon on Kama 1, and Huss Chained Soul Transition, Tributing it for two new cards! Kama 2 attacked Cir, and Cir had its effect negated by Huss’s Solemn Warning. In Main Phase 2, Huss Xyz Summoned Lightning Chidori, which targeted Burke’s Mystical Space Typhoon. Burke Chained it to destroy Fire Formation – Tenki. Next, Huss detached an Xyz Material from Chidori to put Scarm on top of the Deck.
Burke drew Scarm again. He tried using Farfa’s effect to Special Summon itself, and Huss Chained Mind Crush to discard it first! Burke tried to Special Summon Cir next, and Huss had a second Mind Crush for that too! He had no cards left but Scarm, and Set it.
Huss passed, knowing his Lightning Chidori wouldn’t beat Scarm’s DEF.
Burke drew Rubic, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss! He Special Summoned it and stacked it with Scarm for Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss. It detached Scarm, then sent Graff, Night Beam, and Libic, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss from the Deck to the Graveyard. Huss negated Dante with Effect Veiler, but Burke’s Graff still Special Summoned Farfa. He entered his Battle Phase, then his Main Phase 2, and used Dante to Xyz Summon Downerd Magician. Farfa was destroyed with the introduction of a non-Burning Abyss monster, and Farfa’s effect banished Lightning Chidori. In the End Phase, Scarm gave him Tour Guide From the Underworld. Chidori returned to the field, but now was without Xyz Materials.
Huss Normal Summoned Yosenju Kama 2 and attacked directly with its effect.
Burke drew Scarm. He Normal Summoned Tour Guide and Special Summoned Farfa from the Deck. He Xyz Summoned Ghostrick Alucard, and detached Farfa to destroy Huss’s Mirror Force, and Chidori was banished by Farfa! Alucard and Downerd attacked directly. Dante was detached from Downerd, and Cir was added to Burke’s hand. When Huss drew his card, he knew it was all over!
