Round 7 Feature Match: Ned Salkovitch versus Isaac Florentino

May 24th, 2015

Ned Salkovitch is no stranger to the Yu-Gi-Oh! Championship Series and is looking for another Top Cut finish. He has started off strong at 6-0, but Isaac Florentino wants to continue his own undefeated streak. Both Duelists are using Nekroz Decks and are very familiar for the mirror match, so we are likely to see a pretty skill intensive Set of Duels!

Salkovitch won the roll and elected to go first.

Duel One:

Florentino Normal Summoned Senju of the Thousand Hands, using its effect to add Nekroz of Unicore to his hand before ending.

Salkovitch opened with a hand with two copies of Senju of the Thousand Hands, Denko Sekka, Nekroz of Valkyrus, Reinforcement of the Army, and drew Preparation of Rites for turn and shuffled his hand while he considered his options. He Normal Summoned Senju of the Thousand Hands, using its effect to add Nekroz of Unicore and then used Reinforcement of the Army to add Nekroz of Clausolas using its effect to add Nekroz Kaleidoscope to his hand. After all of that searching he then activated the Nekroz Kaleidoscope, sending Red Nova Dragon to Ritual Summon Nekroz of Unicore and Nekroz of Valkyrus. He declared an attack with Nekroz of Valkyrus over the opposing Senju of the Thousand Hands, then directly with both Senju of the Thousand Hands and Nekroz of Unicore to put Florentino down to 2900 Life Points. He overlayed the two Level fours for Lavalval Chain, then used its effect to send Djinn Releaser of Rituals to the Graveyard! He followed it up by using Nekroz of Valkyrus, tributing itself and the Lavalval Chain to draw Maxx “C” and Shurit, Strategist of Nekroz. He banished the Nekroz Kaleidoscope from his Graveyard along with his Nekroz of Unicore to add Nekroz Cycle, using the Nekroz Cycle to Ritual Summon Nekroz of Clausolas by banishing Djinn Releaser of Rituals from his Graveyard. He finished his turn by using Preparation of Rites to add Nekroz of Brionac to his hand and add Nekroz Cycle back from his Graveyard, then used Nekroz of Brionac to add Nekroz of Valkyrus.

Florentino Normal Summoned another Senju of the Thousand Hands, using its effect to search Nekroz of Clausolas which in turn searched Nekroz Kaleidoscope to his hand. He Set two to his back row before ending.

Salkovitch drew Nekroz Mirror for turn and clarified that Florentino was at 2900 Life Points. He Normal Summoned Denko Sekka before activating Nekroz Cycle, tributing Shurit, Strategist of Nekroz to Special Summon Nekroz of Unicore from his Graveyard! This allowed him to add Nekroz of Trishula which he Ritual Summoned using Nekroz Mirror which prompted Florentino to concede!

Both Duelists made small talk while choosing what they were going to take out and put in; neither seemed to stressed about the match considering their flawless records thus far.

Florentino chose for Salkovitch to go first after Side Decking.

Duel Two:

Salkovitch opened with a hand of Nekroz of Valkyrus, Nekroz of Clausolas, Manju of the Ten Thousand Hands, Nekroz of Unicore, and Nekroz Mirror. He Normal Summoned Manju of the Ten Thousand Hands using its effect to add Nekroz of Brionac. He used Nekroz of Clausolas next, adding Nekroz Kaleidoscope to his hand which he then activated to Special Summon Nekroz of Unicore by sending Herald of the Arch Light to his Graveyard. The Herald of the Arch Light activated, letting him add Nekroz of Unicore, before he used Nekroz of Brionac to add Shurit, Strategist of Nekroz. He used Nekroz Mirror next, tributing Shurit, Strategist of Nekroz, to Ritual Summon Nekroz of Valkyrus! The Shurit, Strategist of Nekroz activated letting him add Nekroz of Brionac before he overlayed his two Level fours for Lavalval Chain. The Lavalval Chain used its effect detaching Manju of the Ten Thousand Hands to send Djinn Releaser of Rituals to his Graveyard before using Nekroz of Valkyrus, tributing both the Nekroz of Valkyrus and Lavalval Chain, to draw Senju of the Thousand Hands and Nekroz Cycle. Things were looking pretty similar to last game for Salkovitch as he activated Nekroz of Unicore, adding back Nekroz of Valkyrus, before banishing Nekroz Mirror and Nekroz of Unicore as well as Nekroz Kaleidoscope and Nekroz of Unicore to add both Nekroz Cycle and Nekroz Mirror to his hand. He then used the Cycle, banishing the Djinn Releaser of Rituals, to Special Summon Nekroz of Clausolas before ending.

Florentino drew his sixth card and sat a while considering what his best line of play was. He started off with Raigeki, clearing away the Djinned Nekroz of Clausolas so that he could Special Summon! He activated Nekroz of Brionac next to search Nekroz of Valkyrus, but chose to pass after he thought about playing a card.

Salkovitch drew Nekroz of Unicore for turn but knowing his opponent had added Nekroz of Valkyrus had to find a line that didn’t cause him to over extend. He banished Nekroz Cycle and Nekroz of Brionac from his Graveyard to add Nekroz Kaleidoscope, then used the Nekroz Kaleidoscope, sending Red Nova Dragon, to Special Summon Nekroz of Valkyrus and Nekroz of Unicore. He then Normal Summoned Senju of the Thousand Hands and used its effect to add Nekroz of Valkyrus. He attacked with the whole team and Florentino chose not to use his Nekroz of Valkyrus, leaving Florentino with a mere 1400 Life Points. He overlayed the two Level fours once again for Daigusto Emeral, using its effect by detaching Nekroz of Unicore to shuffle back Lavalval Chain, Manju of the Ten Thousand Hands, and Nekroz of Unicore letting him draw Shurit, Strategist of Nekroz. He then used the Nekroz of Valkyrus effect, tributing itself and Daigusto Emeral, to draw Artifact Lancea and Vanity’s Emptiness! He Set the Vanity’s Emptiness before ending.

Florentino Normal Summoned Senju of the Thousand Hands and used its effect to add Nekroz of Clausolas which then searched Nekroz Kaleidoscope. He activated Nekroz Kaleidoscope which caused Salkovitch to consider using Vanity’s Emptiness, but chose not to knowing that he would be locked under it if he did. Florentino sent Herald of the Arch Light to Ritual Summon Nekroz of Unicore; the Herald of the Arch Light let him search Nekroz of Trishula to his hand. He activated Preparation of Rites next to search Nekroz of Brionac from his Deck and add Nekroz Kaleidoscope back from his Graveyard. He activated Nekroz of Brionac, adding Shurit, Strategist of Nekroz, but when he went to activate Nekroz Cycle Salkovitch chose to Flip his Vanity’s Emptiness. After attacks with both Senju of the Thousand Hands and Nekroz of Unicore, Salkovitch fell to 4300 Life Points before Florentino ended.

Salkovtich drew another copy of Artifact Lancea but was still locked under the Vanity’s Emptiness. He used Nekroz of Brionac to add Zefrasaber, Swordmaster of the Nekroz. He Normal Summoned and tried to attack over Senju of the Thousand Hands, but Florentino stopped it with Nekroz of Valkyrus. Salkovitch passed with no further actions.

Florentino drew to five cards in hand and thought about his next move before choosing to simply pass.

Salkovitch drew Nekroz of Gungnir and tried to declare an attack once again over Senju of the Thousand Hands which went through, putting Florentino down to 1300 Life Points. With seven cards in hand, Salkovitch chose to Set Nekroz Kaleidoscope before ending.

Florentino tried to use Dark Hole but Salkovitch Chained Nekroz of Gungnir to save his Zefrasaber, Swordmaster of the Nekroz! Florentino lost his Nekroz of Unicore and Vanity’s Emptiness stayed in play; he banished Nekroz of Unicore and Nekroz Cycle next to add another copy of Nekroz Cycle to his hand. He was forced to just Set a Monster before ending.

Salkovitch drew Manju of the Ten Thousand Hands for turn, then tributed his Zefrasaber, Swordmaster of the Nekroz to Normal Summon Artifact Lancea which caused Vanity’s Emptiness to destroy itself. He used Nekroz Cycle, tributing Shurit, Strategist of Nekroz, to Special Summon Nekroz of Gungnir from his Graveyard. He then used Shurit, Strategist of Nekroz to add Nekroz of Trishula which he then Ritual Summoned using his Set Nekroz Mirror! Once Florentino realized what was going on he promptly scooped up his cards and conceded.
