Round 5 Feature Match: Christopher Gonzales versus Maxwell Shrack
Maxwell Shrack has made his journey here today from Maryland; he is piloting a fairly standard Nekroz Deck using a full Set of Mystical Space Typhoon, not the most popular trend, in his Main Deck to help combat strategies relying on backrow. His opponent is Christopher Gonzales who made his own trip from Illinois, playing an awesome HERO Deck centering around Elemental HERO Shadow Mist and Masked HERO Dark Law trying to take advantage of how well positioned the effect of Dark Law is against the Field. We have seen much success from this newer version of HERO yet, so hopefully Gonzales can prove his stuff and show us why he’s currently undefeated at 4-0.
Gonzales won the roll and chose to go first.
Duel One:
Gonzales opened with Summoner Monk, Elemental HERO Shadow Mist, Mystical Space Typhoon, E – Emergency Call, and A Hero Lives. He looked at his hand for a while before Normal Summoning Summoner Monk and using its effect, ditching A Hero Lives to Special Summon Elemental HERO Shadow Mist from his Deck. He used the effect of Elemental HERO Shadow Mist to add Mask Change to his hand, then Set all of his Spells before ending.
Shrack drew and announced his phases, making sure that Gonzales didn’t want to use Mask Change before his Main Phase 1 while bluffing Denko Sekka. He activated Nekroz Kaleidoscope, but this prompted Gonzales to Flip his Mask Change and Special Summon Masked HERO Dark Law! Shrack banished Herald of the Arch Light, then Special Summoned Nekroz of Unicore from his hand. Gonzales added Elemental HERO Bubbleman to his hand thanks to the effect of Elemental HERO Shadow Mist. Shrack didn’t slow down, he Normal Summoned Senju of the Thousand Hands next and used its effect to add Nekroz of Trishula Shrack overlayed his Senju of the Thousand Hands and Nekroz of Unicore to Special Summon Evilswarm Exciton Knight. He activated the effect of Nekroz of Clausolas, putting himself lower on cards so he could activate the Evilswarm Exciton Knight! Gonzales had no way to stop it as the board got blown away; Shrack added Nekroz Cycle to his hand via the Nekroz of Clausolas he had ditched, and then ended his turn.
Gonzales drew another Elemental HERO Bubbleman for turn, Set Elemental HERO Shadow Mist, and ended.
Shrack drew for turn and slammed down Nekroz Cycle, tributing Shurit, Strategist of Nekroz, to Special Summon Nekroz of Trishula and use its effect to banish the Set Elemental HERO Shadow Mist, Elemental HERO Bubbleman from Gonzales’s hand, and another Elemental HERO Shadow Mist from Gonzales’s Graveyard. He then searched for Shurit, Strategist of Nekroz, adding Nekroz of Brionac to his hand, which he then used to add Nekroz of Unicore. He Normal Summoned Djinn Releaser of Rituals and went to Battle Phase attacking with all of his Monsters putting Gonzales down to 2200 Life Points.
Gonzales drew and found no help before he chose to concede the first Duel!
Both Duelists chatted while Side Decking; once they finished Gonzales said that he would be going first.
Duel Two:
Gonzales opened with a hand of D.D. Crow, two copies of A Hero Lives, and two copies of Elemental HERO Bubbleman. He used A Hero Lives to Special Summon Elemental HERO Shadow Mist from his Deck at the cost of half of his Life Points, but added Mask Change to his hand for the trouble. He Set it along with A Hero Lives before ending.
Shrack drew and Gonzales immediately Flipped Mask Change to transform his Elemental HERO Shadow Mist into Masked HERO Dark Law, but opted not to search for Elemental HERO Shadow Mist. Shrack had the ideal answer though, as he used Mystical Space Typhoon to blow away the Set A Hero Lives and then Book of Eclipse to Flip down the ‘dhlaw before Normal Summoning Manju of the Ten Thousand Hands to add Nekroz of Brionac which he then ditched for Nekroz of Trishula. He activated Reinforcement of the Army next, adding Shurit, Strategist of Nekroz to his hand, before activating Nekroz Cycle, tributing Shurit, Strategist of Nekroz to Special Summon Nekroz of Valkyrus! He added Nekroz of Clausolas from Shurit, Strategist of Nekroz and then used it to add Nekroz Mirror to his hand. He activated the Nekroz Mirror, and although Gonzales had D.D. Crow to banish the Shurit, Strategist of Nekroz from Shrack’s Graveyard, Shrack still had Nekroz of Brionac and Nekroz of Clausolas to banish to Special Summon Nekroz of Trishula! After banishing the opposing Masked HERO Dark Law, Shrack had enough damage to end the game thanks to Gonzales using A Hero Lives earlier!
After a very impressive and fast set of Duels, Maxwell Shrack manages to blow away Christopher Gonzales and move on undefeated with a 5-0 record!
