Welcome To The 2015 Central American World Championship Qualifier!

June 20th, 2015

Last year, while the North American, South American, and European World Championship Qualifiers were dominated by Infernities and Hand Artifact Traptrix Decks, the Central American Finals came down to a clash between Geargia and Mermails.  Reigning Central American Champion Jose Lagunes defeated Filiberto Parra, crushing clockworks with a tsunami strategy of powerful Water monsters, to shock Duel-fans around the world.

Time and time again, Duelists from the Central American region – Mexico, Panama, Honduras, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, Trinidad & Tobago and beyond – innovate to the point of creating unique strategies and metagames that set this group of Duelists apart from the rest of the world.  Right now, the global consensus is that Nekroz lead the field, while Qliphorts and Burning Abyss have become bigger threats since YCS Columbus four weeks ago.  Shaddolls, Ritual Beasts, and ‘tellarknights have nipped at their heels in recent Regional Qualifiers… but here in Mexico City, that order may be overturned.  Could we see an upset?  Could an innovative strategy – or a new one entirely! – upset the dominance of Nekroz?

That’s just one of the questions we’ll answer this weekend, as we bring you feature matches, interviews, tech updates and deck insight all weekend long, live from the historic Expo Reforma in Mexico City!  Over 1,100 Duelists earned their invitation to today’s Main Event through Regional Qualifiers this year, and hundreds more turned out for Last Chance Qualifiers yesterday, with an additional 140 earning last-minute invites.  The atmosphere is electric here in Mexico City as we prepare to crown a new Central American Champion, as well as a new Central American Dragon Duel Champion – two Duelists who’ll represent Central America at the 2015 Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME World Championships in Kyoto, Japan on August 15th and 16th.

Welcome to the kick-off to the WCQ Season!  Welcome, to the 2015 Central American World Championship Qualifier!
