Top 8 Feature Match: Spencer Culwell vs. Ned Salkovitch
Pennsylvania’s Spencer Culwell is Dueling against New Jersey’s Ned Salkovitch in a Top 8 Feature Match that will determine which Duelist advances to the Top 4! Culwell is one of 2 Kozmo Duelists in the Top 8, taking advantage of the new cards in Clash of Rebellions to catch opponents off guard with his new strategy. Salkovitch, on the other hand, is using the tried-and-true Nekroz Deck that we saw him using in earlier Feature Matches. The stakes are high, as the Duelist who is defeated in this Match will be eliminated from the tournament and will be out of contention for the title of “Ultimate Duelist.” It’s time to Duel!
Duel One
Culwell opened up Duel 1 with Emergency Teleport, Dark Hole, Kozmo Sliprider, and 2 copies of Kozmo Forerunner. He Set his Emergency Teleport and then ended his turn.
Salkovitch activated Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy Culwell’s Emergency Teleport and Culwell Chained it to Special Summon Kozmo Farmgirl from his Deck. Next, Salkovitch activated Preparation of Rites to add Nekroz of Brionac from his Deck to his hand and discarded Nekroz of Brionac to add Shurit, Strategist of the Nekroz from his Deck to his hand. He activated Nekroz Cycle next, Tributing Shurit from his hand to Special Summon Nekroz of Valkyrus from his hand. Salkovitch added Nekroz of Trishula from his Deck to his hand with his Shurit’s effect. Next, Salkovitch activated the effect of his Nekroz of Valkyrus to Tribute it and draw a card from his Deck. He banished Nekroz Cycle and Nekroz of Valkyrus from his Graveyard to add Nekroz Mirror to his hand with his Cycle’s effect and then activated Nekroz Mirror to banish Shurit from his Graveyard and Special Summon Nekroz of Trishula. He activated its effect to banish Emergency Teleport from the Graveyard, Kozmo Farmgirl from the field, and Kozmo Forerunner from Culwell’s hand. Next, Salkovitch activated Nekroz Kaleidoscope and sent Herald of the Arc Light from his Extra Deck to his Graveyard to Special Summon Nekroz of Unicore. He added Nekroz of Brionac to his hand with the effect of Herald of the Arc Light. He attacked directly with Nekroz of Unicore and Nekroz of Trishula, dropping Culwell down to 3000 Life Points.
Culwell drew Kozmotown next turn! He activated Dark Hole to destroy Nekroz of Trishula and Nekroz of Unicore and then activated Kozmotown! He activated its effect to add Farmgirl to his hand and lose 300 Life Points. Next, he Summoned Farmgirl to the field and attacked directly with it. Salkovitch lost 1500 Life Points and Culwell paid 500 Life Points to add Kozmo Forerunner to his hand with Farmgirl’s effect. Next, Culwell banished Farmgirl from his field to activate its effect and Special Summon Forerunner from his hand. Forerunner attacked directly, dropping Salkovitch down to 3700 Life Points. Culwell used the effect of Kozmotown to send a Forerunner and Sliprider from his hand to his Deck and then draw Bottomless Trap Hole and Breakthrough Skill. He Set both Trap Cards and then ended his turn.

Culwell opened up Duel 1 with Maxx “C”, Kozmo Forerunner, Kozmo Sliprider, Bottomless Trap Hole, and Raigeki. He Set Bottomless Trap Hole and then ended his turn.
Salkovitch activated Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy Culwell’s face-down Bottomless Trap Hole and then activated Nekroz Kaleidoscope; but Culwell Chained Maxx “C”! Salkovitch sent Herald of the Arc Light from his Extra Deck to his Graveyard to Special Summon Nekroz of Unicore, allowing Culwell to draw Kozmotown. Salkovitch added Nekroz of Gungnir to his hand with the effect of Herald of the Arc Light. Salkovitch attacked directly with Nekroz of Unicore and then ended his turn.
Culwell drew Kozmo Farmgirl next turn! He Normal Summoned Farmgirl and then activated its effect to banish it and Special Summon Forerunner from his hand. Next, he attacked Nekroz of Unicore, destroying it and dealing 500 points of damage to Salkovitch. In Main Phase 2, Culwell activated Kozmotown and used its effect to add Farmgirl to his hand and lose 300 Life Points. Next, he used its other effect to shuffle a Farmgirl and Sliprider from his hand into his Deck and draw Dark Hole and Kozmo Goodwitch.
Salkovitch activated Reinforcement of the Army to add Nekroz of Clausolas from his Deck to his hand and then discarded Nekroz of Clausolas to add Nekroz Cycle from his Deck to his hand with its effect. Next, he banished Nekroz Kaleidoscope and Nekroz of Unicore from his Graveyard to add Nekroz Mirror from his Deck to his hand. He activated Nekroz Cycle next, Tributing Shurit from his hand to Special Summon Nekroz of Gungnir to his field. He added Nekroz of Trishula to his hand with the effect of Shurit. Salkovitch activated Nekroz Mirror next, banishing Shurit from his Graveyard to Special Summon Nekroz of Trishula to his field. He activated Trishula’s effect, banishing Kozmo Forerunner from the field, Maxx “C” from Culwell’s Graveyard, and Raigeki from Culwell’s hand. He activated Preparation of Rites next, returning Nekroz Mirror from his Graveyard to his hand and adding Nekroz of Brionac from his Deck to his hand. Finally, Salkovitch Normal Summoned Denko Sekka. Direct attacks from Denko Sekka, Nekroz of Trishula, and Nekroz of Gungnir finished off Culwell’s last 5400 Life Points!

Duel Three
Salkovitch started off Duel 3 by simply passing his turn.
Culwell opened up Duel 3 with Maxx “C”, Artifact Lancea, Kozmotown, Vanity’s Emptiness, Breakthrough Skill, and Kozmo Sliprider. He activated Kozmotown and then used its effect to shuffle Sliprider back into his Deck and draw Maxx “C”. He Set Breakthrough Skill and Vanity’s Emptiness before passing.
Salkovitch drew a card and then once against passed his turn without making a play.
Culwell drew a Sliprider and then used Kozmotown’s effect again, shuffling Sliprider back into his Deck to draw Emergency Teleport! He activated it to Special Summon Kozmo Farmgirl from his Deck and then attacked directly with Farmgirl! Salkovitch lost 1500 Life Points and Culwell paid 500 Life Points to add Kozmo Forerunner to his hand with Farmgirl’s effect. Next, he banished his Farmgirl from the field to activate her effect and Special Summon Forerunner from his hand. He attacked directly with Forerunner. In Main Phase 2, he added Farmgirl to his hand with Kozmotown and lost 300 Life Points.
Salkovitch activated Nekroz Kaleidoscope, and Culwell Chained Vanity’s Emptiness! Salkovitch was rendered unable to Special Summon! Salkovitch discarded Nekroz of Unicore to add Nekroz Kaleidoscope back to his hand next, and then passed his turn.
Culwell gained 1000 Life Points in his Standby Phase thanks to the effect of Kozmo Forerunner and then activated Kozmotown’s effect to Special Summon Kozmo Forerunner back into his Deck to draw Bottomless Trap Hole. He attacked directly with Forerunner, and Salkovitch discarded Nekroz of Valkyrus from his hand and banished Nekroz of Unicore from his Graveyard to stop the attack and end the Battle Phase. Culwell Set Bottomless Trap Hole before passing.

Culwell gained another 1000 Life Points in his Standby Phase thanks to the effect of Forerunner, bringing him up to 9200 Life Points, and then he attacked directly with Forerunner; but Salkovitch discarded Nekroz of Valkyrus again and banished his other Nekroz of Valkyrus from his Graveyard to stop the attack and end the Battle Phase once again. Culwell shuffled a Farmgirl and a Goodwitch from his hand into his Deck with the effect of Kozmotown to draw Kozmo Forerunner and Honest.
Salkovitch activated Raigeki to destroy Kozmo Forerunner, and Vanity’s Emptiness went down with it. Next, Salkovitch discarded Nekroz of Brionac from his hand to add Shurit, Strategist of the Nekroz from his Deck to his hand. He activated Nekroz Cycle next, and Culwell Chained Maxx “C”. Salkovitch Tributed Shurit from his hand to Special Summon Nekroz of Valkyrus and Culwell drew a card. Next, Culwell flipped Bottomless Trap Hole to banish Nekroz of Valkyrus. Salkovitch added Nekroz of Trishula to his hand with Shurit’s effect. Salkovitch banished a Ritual Spell and a Nekroz Monster from his Graveyard to add a Nekroz Mirror to his hand and then activated it. He banished Shurit from his Graveyard to Special Summon Nekroz of Trishula and Culwell drew a card before negating Trishula’s effect with Breakthrough Skill.
Culwell activated Dark Hole to try to destroy Nekroz of Trishula, but Salkovitch discarded Nekroz of Gungnir from his hand to protect it. Next, Culwell Summoned Goodwitch and activated its effect to banish it and Special Summon Forerunner to his field. He attacked Nekroz of Trishula to deal 100 Life Points, but Nekroz of Trishula was protected by Nekroz of Gungnir from earlier in the turn. Next, Culwell added Goodwitch to his hand from the Banished Zone by giving up 400 Life Points with Kozmotown, and shuffled the Goodwitch back into his Deck with Kozmotown’s other effect to draw Mind Crush from his Deck. He Set Mind Crush before passing his turn.
Salkovitch discarded Nekroz of Clausolas from his hand to add Nekroz Mirror to his hand and then switched Nekroz of Trishula into Defense Position.

Salkovitch drew a card and then Culwell activated Mind Crush, naming Nekroz Mirror. Salkovitch revealed Torrential Tribute, Nekroz Kaleidoscope, Nekroz of Valkyrus, and Nekroz Mirror in his hand. He discarded the Mirror and then Culwell discarded Artifact Lancea from his hand to prevent Salkovitch from banishing cards for the rest of the turn. Salkovitch Set Torrential Tribute and then passed his turn.

Culwell Chained Maxx “C”, and Salkovitch sent Herald of the Arc Light from his Extra Deck to his Graveyard to Special Summon Nekroz of Unicore to the field, allowing Culwell to draw a card. Salkovitch added Nekroz of Unicore from his Deck to his hand with the effect of his Herald of the Arc Light.
Culwell gained another 1000 Life Points in his Standby Phase, bringing him up to 9100 Life Points. He activated the effect of Kozmotown next, shuffling his Goodwitch and Farmgirl into his Deck to draw Farmgirl and Juragedo. He Normal Summoned Farmgirl to the field and then attacked Nekroz of Unicore with Farmgirl. In the Damage Step, Culwell discarded Honest to increase his Farmgirl’s ATK by 2300, wiping out the rest of Salkovitch’s Life Points!
