Round 8 Feature Match: William Montes versus Erik Christensen
California’s William Montes is Dueling against Florida’s Erik Christensen at Table 1 in our Round 8 Feature Match! Both of these Duelists are currently undefeated with less conventional strategies. Montes is using a Shaddoll Deck featuring Star Seraph Scepter and Star Seraph Sovereignty – 2 cards that many Duelists seem to have removed from their Shaddoll Decks after new Performage monsters were released to take their place in Clash of Rebellions. Christensen, on the other hand, is using an Infernoid Deck strengthened by the new release of PSY-Framelord Omega in High-Speed Riders. Christensen is able to easily Summon PSY-Framelord Omega in his Deck thanks to his Level-shifting Infernoid Decatron Tuner, and he can use his Omega’s effect to return a banished Infernoid to his Graveyard each turn. One of these two Duelists will advance to today’s final Round of Swiss with a perfect 8-0 record, and we’re about to find out which Duelist it will be. It’s time to Duel!
Duel One
Montes opened up with Shaddoll Squamata, Mind Control, Star Seraph Scepter, and 2 copies of Shaddoll Fusion. He Summoned his Scepter and activated its effect to add Star Seraph Sovereignty from his Deck to his hand.
Christensen activated Charge of the Light Brigade, sending One for One, Galaxy Cyclone, and Infernoid Decatron from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard to add Raiden, Hand of the Lightsworn from his Deck to his hand. He Summoned Raiden and activated its effect to send Card Trooper and Charge of the Light Brigade from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard. Next, he Special Summoned Infernoid Patrulea by banishing Infernoid Decatron from his Graveyard. He Tuned Raiden with Infernoid Patrulea to Synchro Summon PSY-Framelord Omega in Attack Position! Next, Christensen banished Infernoid Onuncu and Infernoid Patrulea to Special Summon Infernoid Attondel from his hand. He attacked Scepter with Attondel to destroy it, and then attacked again with Attondel, this time striking Montes’s Life Points directly. PSY-Framelord Omega attacked directly next, dropping Montes down to 1400 Life Points.
Montes drew a card and then Christensen used the effect of his Omega in Montes’s Standby Phase to return Infernoid Decatron from his Banished Zone to his Graveyard. Montes activated Shaddoll Fusion in Main Phase 1, and Christensen Chained the effect of his Omega to banish Mind Control from Christensen’s hand along with Christensen’s own Omega. This removed his Omega from the field, forcing Montes to fuse the monsters in his hand with Shaddoll Fusion. Montes fused Star Seraph Sovereignty and Shaddoll Squamata from his hand to Summon El Shaddoll Construct, and then used the effects of Construct and Squamata to send Shaddoll Beast and Shaddoll Falco from his Deck to his Graveyard. He used his Falco’s effect to Special Summon it back to the field face-down and drew a card with his Beast’s effect. Construct attacked Attondel next, and Christensen activated Void Seer to protect his monster from Construct’s effect, allowing both the Construct and the Attondel to be destroyed in battle. Montes returned a Shaddoll Fusion to his hand with Construct’s effect.
Christensen banished a Decatron from his Graveyard to Special Summon Infernoid Pirmais from his hand in Defense Position. He returned Montes’s face-down Falco to Montes’s Deck with Pirmais’s effect and then activated his Omega’s effect to banish El Shaddoll Fusion from Montes’s hand. Next, he flipped Burial from a Different Dimension to send 3 of his banished Infernoids back to his Graveyard, and he banished all of them to Special Summon Infernoid Onuncu from his Graveyard. A direct attack from Onuncu finished Montes off!
Eric Christensen leans on his PSY-Framelord Omega’s effect to defeat William Montes’s Shaddolls in Duel 1!
Duel Two
Christensen started off Duel 2 by Summoning Infernoid Decatron and activating its effect to send Infernity Harmadik from his Deck to his Graveyard and raise his Decatron’s Level by 3. He banished Harmadik to Special Summon Infernoid Patrulea from his hand and then Tuned Decatron with Patrulea to Synchro Summon PSY-Framelord Omega! He banished Patrulea and Harmadik from his Graveyard to Special Summon Infernoid Attondel from his hand
Montes opened up with Cursed Seal of the Forbidden Spell, Shaddoll Hedgehog, Imperial Iron Wall, Vanity’s Emptiness, and 2 copies of Star Seraph Sovereignty. He Set Imperial Iron Wall and Cursed Seal of the Forbidden Spell, along with his Shaddoll Hedgehog. At the end of his Main Phase 1, Christensen activated his Omega’s effect to banish Vanity’s Emptiness from Montes’s hand along with his on-field Omega.
Christensen returned his Omega to his field in his Standby Phase and Montes returned his Vanity’s Emptiness to his hand. Then, Montes activated Imperial Iron Wall. Attondel attacked and destroyed Montes’s face-down Shaddoll Hedgehog, and Montes added Shaddoll Fusion to his hand with its effect. Next, Attondel attacked directly with its second attack, and PSY-Framelord Omega attacked directly, dropping Montes down to 2400 Life Points. In Main Phase 2, Christensen activated Mystical Space Typhoon to try to destroy Imperial Iron Wall; but Montes flipped Cursed Seal of the Forbidden Spell and discarded Shaddoll Fusion to negate the Mystical Space Typhoon and prevent Christensen from using any more copies of Mystical Space Typhoon during the Duel.
Montes drew Breakthrough Skill and then Christensen used his Omega’s effect to send Infernoid Patrulea from his Banished Zone back to his Graveyard in Montes’s Standby Phase. He Summoned Star Seraph Sovereignty and then Special Summoned another Star Seraph Sovereignty from his hand in Defense Position with its effect to draw a Retaliating “C” from his Deck. Montes Set Breakthrough Skill before passing his turn.
Christensen attacked the Attack Position Sovereignty with Attondel, and Montes flipped Breakthrough Skill to negate its effect. Sovereignty was destroyed, and Montes dropped down to 400 Life Points. PSY-Framelord Omega attacked the Defense Position Sovereignty next, destroying it.
Montes drew Instant Fusion next turn, and with only 400 Life Points left, he was unable to activate it. He offered the handshake in concession!
Erik Christensen takes a quick 2-0 victory over William Montes to advance with an 8-0 record using his Infernoid Deck!
