Round 1 Feature Match: Amy Young versus Brandon Rohmer

February 6th, 2016

Amy Young from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Brandon Rohmer from San Antonio, Texas are both veteran YCS Duelists. Now, they’re Dueling against one another in our Round 1 Feature Match! Young is using a Monarch Deck without an Extra Deck, made possible by the new Emperor of Darkness Structure Deck. Like most Monarch Decks in this weekend’s tournament, Young’s Deck uses Edea the Heavenly Squire to Summon Eidos the Underworld Squire and Tribute them to Summon her Monarchs. Rohmer, on the other hand, is using a Performapal Pendulumn Deck featuring Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer, Performapal Monkeyboard, and Performapal Guitartle from Breakers of Shadow. Rohmer heavily relies on Pendulum Summoning monsters, so Domain of the True Monarchs, which can stop Rohmer from Summoning from his Extra Deck, may be a huge card for Young in his Matchup. It’s time to Duel!

Duel 1

Rohmer won the die roll and chose to go first in Duel 1.

Brandon Rohmer

He Set a monster and then passed his turn.

Young opened up Duel 1 with Eidos the Underworld Squire, Domain of the True Monarchs, Tenacity of the Monarchs, The Monarchs Stormforth, Upstart Goblin, and March of the Monarchs. Young activated Upstart Goblin and Rohmer activated Droll & Lock Bird from his hand when she drew Ehther the Heavenly Monarch. She Summoned Eidos and activated its effect to gain an additional Tribute Summon, and then activated The Monarchs Stormforth! She Tributed Rohmer’s face-down Shaddoll Dragon and her own Eidos to Tribute Summon Ehther the Heavenly Monarch and activated its effect. She sent The Prime Monarch and Pantheism of the Monarchs from her Deck to her Graveyard to Special Summon another Ehther from her Deck. She attacked with both Ehthers and then activated Domain of the True Monarchs and March of the Monarchs in Main Phase 2. She returned one of her Ehthers to her hand in her End Phase before passing to Rohmer.

Rohmer conceded after drawing his next turn, completely shut down by Ehther the Heavenly Monarch, March of the Monarchs, and Domain of the True Monarchs.

Duel 2

Rohmer chose to go first once again, and started off Duel 2 by Summoning Performapal Skullcrobat Joker. He activated its effect to add Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer to his hand and then activated it in his Pendulum Zone. He activated Luster Pendulum, the Dracoslayer in his Pendulum Zone next, and used its effect to destroy his Pendulum Sorcerer and add another copy of Pendulum Sorcerer to his hand. He placed his new Pendulum Sorcerer into his Pendulum Zone, and then Pendulum Summoned Armageddon Knight from his hand and Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer from his Extra Deck. He activated his Sorcerer’s effect to destroy the 2 cards in his Pendulum Zone, and then added Performapal Guitartle and Performapal Monkeyboard to his hand with his Pendulum Sorcerer’s effect. He sent Blackwing – Zephyros the Elite to his Graveyard with the effect of Armageddon Knight. Next, he placed Guitartle into his Pendulum Zone. He activated Monkeyboard next, and drew a card with Guitartle’s effect. Then, he added Performapal Skullcrobat Joker to his hand with his Monkeyboard’s effect. Next, he returned Monkeyboard to his hand to Special Summon Zephyros from his Graveyard. He combined Zephyros with Armageddon Knight to Xyz Summon Abyss Dweller.

Young opened up with Edea the Heavenly Squire, Ehther the Heavenly Monarch, Pantheism of the Monarchs, The Monarchs Stormforth, and Forbidden Chalice. She drew Maxx “C” in her Draw Phase. She activated Pantheism of the Monarchs by discarding The Monarchs Stormforth, and Rohmer Chained the effect of Abyss Dweller; but Young Chained Forbidden Chalice to negate Abyss Dweller’s effect! Young drew Twin Twisters and Mystical Space Typhoon from her Deck. She Summoned Edea the Heavenly Squire next, and activated its effect to Summon Eidos the Underworld Squire. Next, she banished Pantheism from her Graveyard to reveal 3 copies of Domain of the Monarchs from her Deck, forcing Rohmer to add one of them to Young’s hand. She activated Domain’s effect to lower the Level of Ehther by 2, and then activated Eidos’s effect to gain an additional Normal Summon. She Tributed Edea to Summon Ehther the Heavenly Monarch, and activated Ehther’s effect by sending Pantheism of the Monarchs and The Prime Monarch from her Deck to her Graveyard. She Special Summoned Ehther from her Deck with her other Ehther’s effect, and added Pantheism of the Monarchs to her hand with the effect of Edea. She attacked and destroyed Abyss Dweller with one Ehther, and then attacked and destroyed Skullcrobat Joker with her other, sending it to the Extra Deck. Rohmer dropped down to 4300 Life Points. Young banished The Monarchs Stormforth from her Graveyard to Special Summon The Prime Monarch and then Set Mystical Space Typhoon and Twin Twisters before entering her End Phase. In her End Phase, Ehther returned to her hand.

Lightning is about to strike

Rohmer activated Raigeki to clear Young’s field! He activated Performapal Monkeyboard next, and attempted to activate the effect of his Guitartle; but Young Chained Twin Twisters! She discarded Panethism from her hand to destroy Monkeyboard and Guitartle in the Pendulum Zones, and send them to the Extra Deck. Next, Rohmer activated Foolish Burial to send Shaddoll Dragon from his Deck to his Graveyard and destroy Young’s face-down Mystical Space Typhoon. He Summoned Skullcrobat Joker next, and activated its effect to add Monkeyboard to his hand. He activated it in the Pendulum Zone and then used its effect to add Performapal Lizardraw from his Deck to his hand. Young activated Maxx “C” by discarding it from her hand. Rohmer activated Lizardraw in his Pendulum Zone next, and then Pendulum Summoned Performapal Skullcrobat Joker, Luster Pendulum, the Dracoslayer, and Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer, allowing Young to draw 1 card.

Performance of a Lifetime

Direct attacks from Rohmer’s 5 monsters finished Young off!

Duel 3

Young chose to go first in Duel 3, and opened up with Reinforce Truth, The Prime Monarch, Solemn Scolding, Eidos the Underworld Squire, and Thestalos the Mega Monarch.

Amy Young

She Set 2 cards to her back row and passed her turn, unable to Summon any Monarchs.

Rohmer activated Draco Face-Off, revealing Luster Pendulum, the Dracoslayer and Vector Pendulum, the Dracoverlord from his Deck. Vector Pendulum was randomly selected, and Young Special Summoned it to the field while sending his Dracoslayer to the Extra Deck. Next, Rohmer Summoned Performapal Skullcrobat Joker and activated its effect to add Performapal Guitartle to his hand. He activated it and then activated Performapal Monkeyboard. He drew a card with Guitartle’s effect and then activated Monkeyboard’s effect to add Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer from his Deck to his hand. He Pendulum Summoned Luster Pendulum from his Extra Deck and Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer from his hand. He activated his Pendulum Sorcerer’s effect to destroy his Monkeyboard and then add another Monkeyboard from his Deck to his hand. He combined his Pendulum Sorcerer with Skullcrobat Joker to Xyz Summon Performage Trapeze Magician in Attack Position, and Young flipped Reinforce Truth! She Special Summoned Edea from her Deck and then activated its effect to Special Summon Eidos. Rohmer activated his Trapeze Magician’s effect to allow his Luster Pendulum to attack twice, and then activated Raigeki! Young Chained Solemn Scolding and paid 3000 Life Points to negate Raigeki. Luster Pendulum attacked and destroyed both of Young’s monsters, and then Performage Trapeze Magician and Vector Pendulum, the Dracoverlord attacked directly, dropping Young down to 650 Life Points. Luster Pendulum was destroyed in the End Phase due to the effect of the Trapeze Magician, and it was sent to the Extra Deck.

Young drew another Eidos next turn. With 2 copies of Eidos in her hand and one in her Graveyard, she didn’t have any left in her Deck to Special Summon with Edea. Unable to Summon any Monarchs, she conceded.

End of a Reign

A weak hand for Amy Young in Duel 2 allows Brandon Rohmer to take a 2-1 victory in the Round 1 Feature Match!
