With the Adjusted List now in effect, we do not really know what the best strategy to be Dueling with is right now. However, both Peter Cheng and Michael Saxon believe that Kozmos are the choice for the weekend. Reigning Ultimate Duelist Peter Cheng wants to keep his title, but Saxon is the first in a long line of Duelists who are doing their best to make sure that does not happen. Which Kozmo Duelist will succeed and start the day off positive?

Cheng won the roll and chose to go second.

Duel One:

Saxon started with the Normal Summon of Kozmo Tincan and Set a back row before he used its effect, revealing Kozmo Dark Destroyer, Kozmo Sliprider, and Kozmo Dark Eclipser. The Kozmo Dark Eclipser was added to his hand and the other two Kozmos hit the Graveyard.

Cheng opened with a hand with Kozmo Dark Destroyer, Kozmo Farmgirl, Kozmo Strawman, Soul Charge, and Twin Twister before he drew Upstart Goblin. He activated the draw Spell and found another copy, then activated the second one and drew into Vanity’s Emptiness. He Normal Summoned Kozmo Farmgirl next and declared an attack on Kozmo Tincan, which prompted Saxon to activate its effect and banish it to Special Summon Kozmo Dark Eclipser. Cheng used the effect of his Kozmo Farmgirl and Special Summoned Kozmo Dark Destroyer from his hand, and continued his Battle Phase with an attack from Kozmo Dark Destroyer on Kozmo Dark Eclipser. Both monsters hi the Graveyard, and Saxon added Kozmo Strawman to his hand while Cheng Special Summoned Kozmo Farmgirl. However, when Cheng tried to continue pressure with an attack from his fresh Kozmo Farmgirl, Saxon responded with his Set Emergency Teleport to Special Summon his own copy! Now halted, Cheng Set all of his spells and traps to his back row before he ended. During the End Phase, Saxon activated the effect of his Kozmo Farmgirl to Special Summon Kozmo Dark Destroyer from his hand and blew away Cheng’s Kozmo Farmgirl!

Saxon drew to four cards and paused for a moment before he Normal Summoned Kozmo Strawman. He activated its effect and tried to Special Summon his Kozmo Dark Eclipser, but Cheng Flipped his Set Vanity’s Emptiness to stop it. Saxon wasn’t going to stop his onslaught though, as he Chained Emergency Teleport to Vanity’s Emptiness to Special Summon Kozmo Farmgirl. He moved to Battle Phase and declared attacks with Kozmo Strawman and then Kozmo Farmgirl. The effect of Farmgirl triggered, and Saxon added Kozmotown to his hand. He then attacked with Kozmo Dark Destroyer before he moved to Main Phase 2, where he activated Kozmotown and used its effect to add back Kozmo Farmgirl. He then used the other effect of Kozmotown to shuffle back the Kozmo Farmgirl for a new card off the top. Saxon continued on by activating a second copy of Kozmotown and added back Kozmo Dark Eclipser to his hand before he Set a back row. The Duel stood at Cheng’s 3000 to Saxon’s 7300.

Cheng drew Dark Hole for turn and considered his possible lines of play. He finally chose to activate the Dark Hole, blowing away both of Saxon’s Kozmos. He Normal Summoned the last card in his hand: Kozmo Strawman. He activated its effect to Special Summon Kozmo Dark Destroyer and moved to Battle Phase. He declared attacks with both the Kozmo Dark Destroyer and Kozmo Strawman to put Saxon down to 3800 Life Points. During his End Phase, the Kozmo Dark Destroyer was destroyed because of Kozmo Strawman, which then prompted Cheng to activate its effect to Special Summon Kozmo Tincan from his Deck. He then activated the effect of Kozmo Tincan which Saxon tried to respond to with Offerings of the Doomed, not realizing that Cheng had already activated its effect. Cheng revealed Kozmoll Wickedwitch, Kozmo Forerunner, and Kozmo Dark Destroyer, ultimately adding Kozmo Dark Destroyer to his hand while the rest hit the Graveyard.

Saxon drew and activated the effect of Kozmotown to add Kozmo Tincan to his hand, and then the other effect to shuffle back Kozmo Dark Eclipser and draw a card. He slammed down Raigeki next, which Cheng responded to with the effect of Kozmo Strawman to Special Summon Kozmo Dark Destroyer. The Kozmo Dark Destroyer was then destroyed by the resolution of Raigeki, and Cheng Special Summoned Kozmo Tincan. Saxon Normal Summoned his own Kozmo Tincan and Set a back row before he ended, using the effect of Kozmo Tincan to reveal Kozmo Dark Destroyer, Kozmo Forerunner, and Kozmo Dark Eclipser. The Kozmo Dark Eclipser was added to his hand randomly. Cheng then used the effect of his own Kozmo Tincan, which revealed Kozmo Dark Destroyer, Kozmo Sliprider, and Kozmotown. The Kozmo Sliprider was added to his hand randomly. Still during the End Phase, Cheng Special Summoned Kozmo Sliprider and used its effect to destroy Saxon’s Set Solemn Strike.

Cheng drew Reasoning for turn and activated it, prompting Saxon to call Level 5. Cheng Flipped over a Kozmotown and then hit a Kozmoll Wickedwitch, which he chose to Special Summon in Defense Position. He then Flipped his Set Soul Charge and paid himself down to 500 Life Points to Special Summon just Kozmo Dark Destroyer. He then activated the effect of Kozmo Dark Destroyer to destroy itself to then triggers it other effect, letting him Special Summon Kozmo Sliprider. He overlayed both for Cyber Dragon Nova, but in response to its Summon Saxon activated the effect of his Kozmo Tincan to Special Summon Kozmo Dark Eclipser. Cheng overlayed Cyber Dragon Infinity on top of Cyber Dragon Nova before he ended.

Saxon drew and activated Kozmotown to add back Kozmo Farmgirl to his hand. He Normal Summoned the Kozmo Farmgirl and declared an attack with it over Kozmo Tincan, and then Kozmo Dark Eclipser over Cyber Dragon Infinity.

Cheng drew Call of the Haunted and could only Set it before he ended.

Saxon drew and went to Battle Phase, where Cheng tried to activate Call of the Haunted but he negated it with Kozmo Dark Eclipser! With two attacks, the Duel was over!

The atmosphere became tense as the clock continued to tick down. Cheng chose to go second.

Duel Two:

Saxon started with Kozmoll Wickedwitch and a back row before passing.

Cheng drew into a hand of Solemn Strike, Upstart Goblin, Kozmo Sliprider, Cyber Dragon, and two copies of Kozmo Tincan. He traded Upstart Goblin for Vanity’s Emptiness before he Normal Summoned Kozmo Tincan. He Set both Solemn Strike and Vanity’s Emptiness before he tried to activate the effect of Kozmo Tincan, which he lost to Saxon’s Solemn Strike.

Saxon drew and immediately moved to Battle Phase. He declared a direct attack with Kozmoll Wickedwitch and then tried to activate its effect, but Cheng chose to use Solemn Strike to stop it. Saxon followed that up by moving to Main Phase 2 and activating Kozmotown. He used the effect of the Field Spell to add Kozmoll Wickedwitch to his hand, and then Normal Summoned it before he ended.

Cheng drew Raigeki for turn and considered his options. He Normal Summoned Kozmo Tincan and moved to End Phase, then used the effect of Kozmo Tincan to reveal Kozmo Dark Destroyer, Kozmo Forerunner, and Kozmotown. The Kozmotown was added to his hand, the rest hit the Graveyard.

Saxon drew and during the Standby Phase activated the effect of his Kozmoll Wickedwitch, which prompted Cheng to respond with Vanity’s Emptiness, but Saxon had Twin Twister discarding Cyber Dragon to destroy the Vanity’s Emptiness and his own Kozmotown. The Kozmoll Wickedwitch Special Summoned Kozmo Forerunner, and Kozmotown let him add Kozmo Dark Destroyer to his hand. He gained 1000 putting himself at 8100 with Kozmo Forerunner, then moved to Battle Phase. He declared an attack with Kozmo Forerunner into Cheng’s Kozmo Tincan, which prompted Cheng to activate it and Special Summon Kozmo Sliprider. Saxon had Maxx “C” so once the Kozmo Sliprider hit the table he drew a card, and he continued by attacking over the Kozmo Sliprider. He Set a back row and ended.

Cheng drew Kozmo Dark Destroyer for turn and Special Summoned Cyber Dragon. Saxon Flipped his Set Kozmojo, banishing the opposing Cyber Dragon and destroying his own Kozmo Forerunner. The Forerunner triggered, and Saxon Special Summoned Kozmo Tincan. Cheng activated Raigeki which Saxon responded to with the effect of Kozmo Tincan. He Special Summoned Kozmo Dark Destroyer, and then Raigeki destroyed the spaceship and Saxon Special Summoned Kozmo Forerunner from his Deck. Cheng then activated Kozmotown and added Kozmo Tincan back to his hand. He Normal Summoned and then moved to End Phase, where its effect revealed Kozmoll Wickedwitch, Kozmo Sliprider, and Kozmo Dark Destroyer. Ultimately the Kozmo Dark Destroyer was added to his hand.

Saxon drew to a single card and during the Standby Phase gained 1000 Life Points. He moved to Battle Phase and declared an attack, which Cheng responded to with Kozmo Tincan to Special Summon Kozmo Dark Destroyer. Saxon Chained Maxx “C” to draw a card but then ended. Turn 0 was announced.

Cheng drew Emergency Teleport for turn and then activated Kozmotown to add back Kozmo Tincan. He Normal Summoned it and declared an attack with Kozmo Dark Destroyer to destroy the Kozmo Forerunner, which let Saxon Special Summon Kozmo Tincan. Cheng activated the effect of his Kozmo Tincan to Special Summon Kozmo Dark Destroyer from his hand, but Saxon responded with his own Kozmo Tincan to Special Summon Kozmo Sliprider. Cheng was forced to attack into Kozmo Sliprider with his Kozmo Dark Destroyer, which let Saxon Special Summon Kozmo Tincan. Cheng then used Emergency Teleport to Special Summon Kozmo Farmgirl and destroy the Kozmo Tincan before he ended.

Saxon drew to a single card, but conceded to Cheng’s powerful fleet!

Peter Cheng emerges undefeated yet without a victory in the first Round, drawing with Michael Saxon to begin the Ultimate Duelist Series – Winter Invitational.
