Round 10: Billy Brake versus Brett Alan Teslaa
3-time YCS Champion Billy Brake from Dallas Texas is back in action this weekend, qualifying for Day 2 with a Performapal Pendulum Deck. He’s facing Brett Alan Teslaa from outside of Detroit, Michigan running Kozmo. There’s only 2 rounds left before the cut to Top 32, so every win is important from here on out. Both players have 1 loss this weekend, so another loss can turn a near-guaranteed Top 32 into uncertainty. Who will come out victorious here? Let’s find out!
Game 1
Brake won the roll and elected to go first.
Brake opened up with a hand of Performapal Monkeyboard, Draco Face-Off, Performage Mirror Conductor Solemn Strike and Bottomless Trap Hole. He started with Draco Face-Off, revealing Luster Pendulum, the Dracoslayer and Vector Pendulum, the Dracoverlord. Luster Pendulum, the Dracoslayer was placed in the Pendulum Zone with Vector Pendulum, the Dracoverlord going to the Extra Deck. Performapal Monkeyboard was activated to add Performapal Pendulum Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer to hand, then Luster Pendulum, the Dracoslayer was activated to destroy Monkeyboard and add another one to hand. Brake Activated Performage Mirror Conductor then Pendulum Summoned Vector Pendulum, the Dracoverlord and Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer, destroying the scales and searching for Performapal Skullcrobat Joker and Performapal Helpprincess. Brake then Normal Summoned Performapal Skullcrobat Joker and followed up with Helpprincess, Performapal Skullcrobat Joker searched Performapal Guitartle and then used the 4 monsters Xyz Summoned 2 Traptrix Rafflesia’s. He set Bottomless Trap Hole and Solemn Strike and passed.
Teslaa started his turn with Kozmotown. He activated Emergency Teleport, Summoning Kozmo Tincan from the Deck. He activated Kozmotown’s effect to shuffle back cards and chained Kozmo Tincan’s banish effect to Special Summon Kozmo Dark Destroyer, and shuffled back Kozmo Sliprider to get a draw. Kozmo Dark Destroyer targeted a Traptrix Rafflesia, Brake chained that Traptrix Rafflesia to dump a Traptrix Trap Hole Nightmare to the grave to negate and destroy Kozmo Dark Destroyer. (Teslaa attempted to dodge a Time-Space Trap Hole or Bottomless Trap Hole by Summoning Dark Destroyer as chain link 2, but Traptrix Trap Hole Nightmare doesn’t have the same activation timing restriction as Time-Space and Bottomless.) Teslaa used the fallen starship’s effect to Summon a Kozmo Forerunner from the Deck, but Brake used Bottomless Trap Hole to destroy and banish that ship. Teslaa then used Kozmotown to add back the banished Kozmo Tincan and Normal Summoned it. In the End Phase, Brake attempted to use Kozmo Tincan’s effect, but Brake blasted it with Solemn Strike. Teslaa ended with 2 set Spell or Traps and no monsters.
Brake drew for turn and Teslaa immediately flipped-up Anti-Spell Fragrance. Brake set his newly drawn Wavering Eyes and passed back.
Teslaa drew to 2 cards in hand and added back a banished Kozmo Dark Destroyer with Kozmotown. He then used Kozmotown’s other effect to shuffle back Kozmo Sliprider and Dark Kozmo Dark Eclipser for 2 more cards. He passed back to Brake.
Brake drew Time-Space Trap Hole, set it and passed.
Teslaa used Kozmotown’s effect to add the banished Forerunner to hand, then shuffled it back for another draw. Teslaa set one and passed, Brake is at 6500 and Teslaa is at 5900.
Brake drew Draco Face-Off. He set it and passed.
Teslaa took no actions during the Main Phase. He went to the End Phase and flipped a set Emergency Teleport, Summoning Kozmo Tincan. He activated the effect, revealing Forerunner, Kozmo Dark Eclipser and Dark Destroyer. Kozmo Dark Eclipser was added to his hand, the others went to the grave. Still in the End Phase, Kozmo Tincan’s Special Summon effect was used to Summon a Kozmo Dark Destroyer from hand, which targeted a Traptrix Rafflesia but Brake chained Time-Space Trap Hole to shuffle Kozmo Dark Destroyer back to the Deck. Still in the End Phase, Brake activated his set Draco Face-Off, putting a Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer in the Extra Deck and a Vector Pendulum, the Dracoverlord on the field as a monster.
Brake Normal Summoned Performapal Lizardraw, and attacked directly with Vector Pendulum, the Dracoverlord and Performapal Lizardraw.
Teslaa Normal Summoned Kozmo Farmgirl, and used her to attack Performapal Lizardraw. Teslaa activated Kozmo Farmgirl’s effect, paying 500 to add Dark Destroyer to hand. Kozmo Farmgirl was banished to Special Summon Kozmo Dark Eclipser from hand. Kozmo Dark Eclipser attacked Vector Pendulum, the Dracoverlord. In Main Phase 2, Teslaa set a second card.
Brake drew a Draco Face-Off but under Anti-Spell Fragrance, decided to concede and move to game 2.
Game 2
Brake elected to have Teslaa start game 2.
Teslaa started with Kozmotown and a set card. He moved to the End Phase and activated Emergency Teleport for Kozmo Tincan. Kozmo Tincan’s effect was used to reveal Kozmo Dark Destroyer, Kozmo Dark Eclipser and Forerunner. Kozmo Forerunner. was added to hand, the others were sent to the Graveyard. Kozmo Tincan was banished to Special Summon the Forerunner.
Brake drew for turn, Teslaa flipped up an Anti-Spell, but Brake had Twin Twisters, discarding Vector Pendulum, the Dracoverlord, targeting only the Anti-Spell, leaving the Kozmotown on the field. Brake then activated Performapal Guitartle and Performapal Lizardraw. He drew one card with Performapal Guitartle and then used Performapal Lizardraw for another draw. He activated Performapal Monkeyboard, used it for Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer, Teslaa activated Maxx “C”. Pendulum Summoned 4 monsters: Luster Pendulum, the Dracoslayer, Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer, Performapal Lizardraw and Performapal Skullcrobat Joker. He used Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer to destroy the scales and add Performapal Helpprincess and Performapal Skullcrobat Joker. He Synchro Summoned Ignister Prominence, the Blasting Dracoslayer using Luster Pendulum, the Dracoslayer and Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer, then used Ignister to Summon Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer from the Deck, then used the Synchro monster’s effect to destroy his own Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer and shuffle back the Forerunner. Brake then Normal Summoned Performapal Skullcrobat Joker and Special Summoned Helpprincess right after. That was enough monsters to end game 2!
Game 3
Teslaa started off with Kozmo Wickedwitch, set 1 spell or trap and passed back.
Brake drew Treacherous Trap Hole for turn and Teslaa once again had the Anti-Spell Fragrance. Brake chained Draco Face-Off, Teslaa chained Maxx “C”. Brake considered his options, revealing Luster Pendulum, the Dracoslayer and Vector Pendulum, the Dracoverlord. Vector was put in the Pendulum Zone, Luster Pendulum, the Dracoslayer was placed in the Extra Deck. Brake set Treacherous Trap Hole and Twin Twisters. In the End Phase, Teslaa banished Wickedwitch to Special Summon Kozmo Sliprider from his hand and destroyed the Treacherous Trap Hole leaving Twin Twisters set on the field.
Teslaa attacked with Kozmo Sliprider for 2300, set a face-down in the Spell and Trap Zone and a face-down Field Spell and passed. Brake blasted the Anti-Spell Fragrance and the face-down Solemn Strike with Twin Twisters! This could be a huge turning point!
Brake placed Performage Plushfire in the Pendulum Zone. He then Pendulum Summoned 3 monsters: Luster Pendulum, the Dracoslayer, Performage Plushfire and Performapal Helpprincess. He then used Performage Plushfire and Luster Pendulum, the Dracoslayer to Synchro Summon Ignister Prominence, the Blasting Dracoslayer. Ignister used its effect to Special Summon Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer from the Deck, then used its other effect to destroy the Performage Plushfire in the Pendulum Zone and shuffle back the face-down Kozmotown. The destroyed Performage Plushfire Summoned Performage Damage Juggler from the Deck, which was used with Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer to Xyz Summon for King of the Feral Imps, which was used to search for Jigabyte and then banished Performage Damage Juggler from the Graveyard to search for Performage Hat Tricker. Both monsters were Special Summoned in Attack Position. Helpprincess and Performage Hat Tricker was used to Xyz Summoned Castel, the Skyblaster Musketeer, whose effect was activated to shuffle Kozmo Sliprider back into the Deck, and that was enough ATK to win the match!
Billy Brake moves on to the final round with a 9-1 record!
Both competitors reflected on the match afterwards: There was a 50/50 chance of Kozmo Sliprider hitting the Twin Twisters instead of the Treacherous Trap Hole, and Teslaa didn’t see any of his Call of the Haunted’s during the match.
