Round 5 Featuer Match: Hughe Blaske versus Philip Zuniga

February 21st, 2016

Philip Zuniga is one of the many Kozmo Duelists here this weekend. Zuniga is trying to show that he has mastered the strategy and rise to the top of the Kozmo crowd, but an unexpected opponent has stepped in his way. Hughe Blaske is 3-1 right now, with probably the most surprising strategy we have seen thus far this tournament: Geargia. Utilizing Geargiano MK-III alongside 22 Traps, Blaske has had a decent start in this weekend and is trying his best to make it to Day Two.

Can Blaske show continued success with his unique strategy? Or will Zuniga take him down?

Blaske won the roll and chose to go first.

Duel One:

Blaske opened with a hand containing Instant Fusion, two copies of Deep Dark Trap Hole, and two copies of Quaking Mirror Force. He Set all of his Traps and ended his turn.

Zuniga drew and announced his phases, once he hit Main Phase 1 he Normal Summoned Kozmo Farmgirl. He declared an attack, but Blaske responded with one of his Quaking Mirror Force, which prompted Zuniga to activate Kozmo Farmgirl to Special Summon Kozmo Sliprider. The Kozmo Sliprider activated and blew away Blaske’s other Quaking Mirror Force, and Blaske needed to use a copy of Deep Dark Trap Hole to clear it away. Zuniga Set three to his back row and ended.

Blaske drew Vanity’s Emptiness and Set it before he passed turn.

Zuniga drew and ended his turn.

Blaske drew Dimensional Fissure and activated it before he ended his turn.

Zuniga drew and moved to Battle Phase. He tried to activate Emergency Teleport, but Blaske had Vanity’s Emptiness to stop it.

Blaske drew Geargiarsenal for turn and Normal Summoned it. He declared an attack for 1700 before he ended.

Zuniga drew and simply passed the turn back.

Blaske drew Geargiarsenal MK-II. He moved to Battle Phase and swung in for another 1700, then ended his turn.

Zuniga drew and Set a fourth card to his back row before he ended.

Blaske drew Geargiarmor. He declared an attack for 1700 with Geargiarsenal, then moved to Main Phase 2 where he Set Geargiarmor.

Zuniga drew and activated Raigeki to clear the Field.

Blaske drew Solemn Strike and Normal Summoned Geargiano MK-II. He declared an attack and ended his turn.

Zuniga drew and Set a Monster before he ended his turn once again.

Blaske drew Geargiagear but couldn’t make any offensive moves, so he ended.

Zuniga tried to Tribute Summon Kozmo Sliprider, but when he used its effect, Blaske had Solemn Strike to destroy it. Vanity’s Emptiness destroyed itself because Solemn Strike hit the Graveyard.

Blaske drew Geargiano for turn and Normal Summoned it. He declared attacks with it and Geargiano MK-II, then moved to Main Phase 2. He overlayed both for Wind-Up Zenmaines and ended his turn.

Zuniga drew and Set a Monster before he tried to end his turn, but during the End Phase Blaske Flipped his Set Geargiagear! After giving it a read, Zuniga conceded.

After a very unimpressive start, Blaske manages to grind through and come out on top. Can Zuniga harness the power of his Kozmos to make a comeback?

Zuniga chose to go first.

Duel Two:

Zuniga drew and started the Duel with three to his back row.

Blaske opened with a hand of Geargiagear, Geargiarmor, Geargiarsenal, Raigeki, Deep Dark Trap Hole, and drew Raigeki for turn. He Normal Summoned Geragiarsenal and declared a direct attack for 1700, but when he moved to Main Phase 2 and tried to activate its effect, Zuniga had Vanity’s Emptiness. Blaske Set two to his back row and ended his turn.

Zuniga drew and Set another back row before he ended.

Blaske drew Geargiano MK-II and chose to Normal Summon Geargiarmor. He declared a direct attack before moving to Main Phase 2, but when he activated the effect of Geargiarmor, Zuniga destroyed it with Solemn Strike! Vanity’s Emptiness also destroyed itself because Solemn Strike hit the Graveyard.

Zuniga drew and moved to End Phase, which prompted Blaske to Flip his Set Geargiagear! In response to the Trap, Zuniga activated Maxx “C”, but Blaske Special Summoned Geargiano and Geargiano MK-III. He activated the effect of Geargiano MK-III to Special Summon Geargiarmor from his Graveyard, giving Zuniga another draw from Maxx “C”.

Blaske drew Geargiaccelerator for turn before he overlayed Geargiano MK-III along with Geargiarmor for Gear Gigant X. He activated the effect of the Xyz to add a second Geargiaccelerator to his hand, then Special Summoned it and overlayed it with Geargiano for a second copy of Gear Gigant X. He activated the effect of the second copy to add Geargiaccelerator back from his Graveyard, then he Normal Summoned Geargiano MK-II and used its effect to Special Summon Geargiano MK-III. He used the effect of MK-III to Special Summon Geargiaccelerator from his Graveyard, then overlayed both Geargiano MK-II and Geargiano MK-III for Wind-Up Zenmaines. He Special Summoned Geargiaccelerator from his hand and overlayed it with the other Geargiaccelerator to Xyz Summon another Gear Gigant X. He used its effect to add Geargiano MK-II and went to his Battle Phase. He declared direct attacks, and although Zuniga had Call of the Haunted to Special Summon Maxx “C”, it wasn’t enough!
