Tech Update: Breakers of Shadow

February 7th, 2016

The previous YCS in North America took place in San Jose, California in November, a good 3 months ago. Since then, we’ve had a ton of new cards become available in two Structure Decks and in Breakers of Shadow! With these new releases, Duelists are trying to find the perfect cards that will complement their strategies and give them the edge they need to come out on top. Let’s take a look at some of the cards from Breakers of Shadow that have gotten the most attention.

Twin Twisters

One of the newest Quick-Play Spell Cards has made a big impact today. At the cost of another card in your hand, you can destroy up to two Spell or Trap cards on the field. Players today have been destroying Pendulum Spells, set Spell and Traps allowing for comebacks and sometimes entire blowouts. As we saw in the Round 3 feature match, Twin Twisters allowed for a player about to lose his entire hand to an Artifact Durendal / Droll & Lock Bird combo, he used Twin Twisters to take 2 Pendulum Scales with it.

Solemn Strike

The newest counter trap in the line of Solemn Counter Trap Cards, this one offers additional utility as it can negate a monster effect or a Special Summon, a combination of effects not often seen on Counter Traps.

Draco Face-Off

We’ve seen this card in a lot of Decks using the suite of Draco- Pendulum Monsters. With one card, a Duelist can put one monster into the Extra Deck and another one on the field as either a Monster or a Pendulum Spell, accelerating a Pendulum strategy and allowing the player to take full advantage of the monsters on their field or in their Extra Deck.

Dark Doriado

Not appearing in a whole lot of Decks, but when it does, it’s usually high-impact. The ability to put 4 monsters from your Deck on top doesn’t seem great, but when you combine this with the draw power that the new Performapal Pendulum monsters provide, you end up with getting exactly what you need when you need it. With the ability to put cards like Droll & Lock Bird, Performapal Guitartle, Performapal Lizardraw and Luster Pendulum, the Dracoslayer on top of the Deck and draw them with Performapal Guitartle and Performapal Lizardraw, it’s getting attention from a number of Duelists in attendance today.
