Round 1 Feature Match: Alexander Juneja versus Yahir Amat

Alexander Juneja from Pasadena, California took third place at the recent Yu-Gi-Oh! Championship Series event in Las Vegas using his Kozmo Deck. Now, with the release of Beatrice, Lady of the Eternal in Premium Gold: Infinite Gold, he sees new hope in the Burning Abyss archetype. Juneja has switched over to a Burning Abyss Deck featuring this new Xyz Monster, and is now facing off against Florida’s Yahir Amat and his Kozmo Deck in this Round 1 Feature Match! It’s time to Duel!

Duel One

 

Amat started off the Duel by Setting a card to his back row and Summoning Kozmo Tincan. He paid 500 Life Points to activate its effect in his End Phase, randomly adding Kozmo Forerunner to his hand and sending Kozmo Dark Destroyer and Kozmo Dark Eclipser to his Graveyard.

Juneja opened up with Alich, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss; Scarm, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss; Rubic, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss; Maxx “C”; Twin Twisters; and Speedroid Terrortop. He Special Summoned Terrortop and activated its effect; but Amat activated Solemn Strike and gave up 1500 Life Points to negate its effect and destroy the Terrortop. Next, Juneja Normal Summoned Scarm. He attacked Tincan, and Amat activated its effect to banish it and Special Summon Forerunner from his hand. Juneja Special Summoned Alich from his hand in Main Phase 2 and then combined his two Burning Abyss Monsters to Xyz Summon Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss. He detached Scarm to send Raigeki, Scarm, and Gameciel, the Sea Turtle Kaiju from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard with Dante’s effect. Next, he discarded Rubic to Xyz Summon Beatrice, Lady of the Eternal in Defense Position by using Dante as an Xyz Material. In his End Phase, he added Tour Guide From the Underworld from his Deck to his hand with Scarm’s effect.

 

Amat gained 1000 Life Points in his Standby Phase with his Forerunner’s effect and then activated Kozmotown. He used its effect to add Tincan to his hand from his Banished Zone by giving up 100 Life Points, and then used the effect of Kozmotown to shuffle Kozmoll Wickedwitch into his Deck and draw a new card. Next, he Summoned his Tincan to the field. He Set a card to his back row and then entered his End Phase and gave up 500 Life Points to select Kozmojo, Kozmo Sliprider, and Kozmo Dark Destroyer from his Deck, and randomly add the Kozmojo to his hand while sending the other 2 cards to his Graveyard. During his End Phase, Juneja activated Beatrice’s effect to send Interrupted Kaiju Slumber from his Deck to his Graveyard by detaching Dante, and then used Dante’s effect to add Scarm from his Graveyard to his hand.

 

Juneja detached Alich from Beatrice to send Calcab, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss from his Deck to his Graveyard. He used Alich’s effect to negate Tincan’s effect and used Calcab’s effect to return Amat’s back row to his hand. He banished Interrupted Kaiju Slumber from his Graveyard next, adding Kumongous, the Sticky String Kaiju from his Deck to his hand. Amat discarded Maxx “C” from his hand. Next, Juneja Tributed Forerunner to Special Summon Kumongous to Amat’s field. He Summoned Tour Guide From the Underworld next, and activated its effect to Special Summon Cir, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss from his Deck, allowing Amat to draw another card. Next, he combined Tour Guide with Cir to Xyz Summon Dante, letting Amat draw another card. He detached Cir from Danate to activate its effect and send Effect Veiler, Fiendish Rhino Warrior, and Foolish Burial from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard. He used his Rhino’s effect to send Farfa, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss from his Deck to his Graveyard; he Special Summoned Dante from his Graveyard with Cir’s effect, allowing Amat to draw another card; and then he used Farfa’s effect to banish Kumongous until the End Phase. Next, he discarded Scarm to upgrade Dante into Beatrice. With Tincan’s effect negated by Alich, attacks from Dante and both copies of Beatrice finished Amat off!

Duel 2

 

Juneja started off Duel 2 with Fiendish Rhino Warrior, Foolish Burial, Farfa, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss, Raigeki, and Gameciel, the Sea Turtle Kaiju.

He activated Foolish Burial to send Graff from his Deck to his Graveyard and used Graff’s effect to Special Summon Cir from his Deck. Next, he Normal Summoned Fiendish Rhino Warrior. He combined Cir with Fiendish Rhino Warrior to Xyz Summon Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss and detached his Rhino to send Gameciel, Rubic, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss, and Speedroid Taketemborg from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard. He used his Fiendish Rhino Warrior’s effect to send Scarm from his Deck to his Graveyard. Next, he discarded Farfa to use Dante as an Xyz Material to Xyz Summon Beatrice. In his End Phase, he added Tour Guide From the Underworld from his Deck to his hand with Scarm’s effect.

Amat Summoned Kozmo Farmgirl. He banished her to Special Summon Kozmo Dark Destroyer from his hand and activated the effect of Kozmo Dark Destroyer to destroy Beatrice. Juneja Chained the effect of Beatrice by detaching Dante, in order to send Interrupted Kaiju Slumber from his Deck to his Graveyard. Beatrice went to the Graveyard along with the Cir attached as an Xyz Material, and Juneja used all of their effects. He Special Summoned Dante, Pilgrim of the Burning Abyss with the effect of Beatrice, Special Summoned Dante from his Graveyard with the effect of Cir, and added Graff, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss to his hand with the effect of Dante. Next, Amat attacked Dante, Pilgrim of the Burning Abyss with Kozmo Dark Destroyer, and Juneja activated the effect of his Pilgrim by discarding Graff to draw a card. He Special Summoned Scarm from his Deck with the effect of Graff. After his Pilgrim was destroyed in battle, he used his Pilgrim’s effect to randomly send Kozmojo from Amat’s hand to his Graveyard. Amat Set 2 cards to his back row before ending his turn.

 

Juneja drew System Down. He banished Interrupted Kaiju Slumber from his Graveyard to add Kumongous to his hand and Amat activated Kozmojo. He destroyed his own Kozmo Dark Destroyer to banish Dante, and then Special Summoned Sliprider from his Deck in Defense Position. Next, Juneja Summoned Tour Guide From the Underworld, prompting Scarm to destroy itself. He activated Tour Guide’s effect to Special Summon Cir from his Deck and then combined Tour Guide with Cir to Xyz Summon Dante; but Amat activated Time-Space Trap Hole to send Dante back to the Extra Deck. Next, Juneja Tributed Sliprider to Special Summon Gameciel to Amat’s field, and then Special Summoned Kumongous to his own field. He attacked Gameciel to destroy it with Kumongous, and then added Farfa from his Deck to his hand with Scarm’s effect in the End Phase.

Juneja attacked directly with Kumongous, dropping Amat down to 4400 Life Points. He Set Farfa and then passed.

 

Amat Set another card to his back row and passed his turn.

 

Juneja drew Calcab and attacked directly with Kumongous, dropping Amat down to 2000 Life Points.

 

Amat Set a monster and passed his turn.

 

Juneja activated System Down and paid 1000 Life Points to banish Sliprider from Amat’s Graveyard. Next, he Flip Summoned Farfa to banish Amat’s face-down monster until the End Phase. A direct attack from Kumongous finished Amat off!
