Round 2 Feature Match: Hani Jawhari versus Paul Cooper
14 year old Hani Jawhari has entered the Main Event this weekend with Performapals, a popular choice among expert Duelists. Utilizing the Draco engine alongside Performapals, this Pendulum strategy is known for huge explosive combos, but his opponent might just have an even more combo oriented strategy. Paul Cooper is known for being a bit off the wall in terms of his Deck choices, and this weekend is no exception. He is Dueling with a Synchro Deck that tries to empty his opponent’s hand via Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier and PSY-Framelord Omega. Who will show their mastery of combo this Round? In addition, Jawhari’s brother is at the other Feature Match Table, so he needs to do his best here to show his dominance.
Jawhari won the roll and chose to go first.
Duel One:
Jawhari opened with a hand of Archfiend Eccentrick, two Performapal Guitartle, and two Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer. He placed a copy of Performapal Guitartle along with Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer in his Pendulum Zone and Pendulum Summoned the Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer. He Normal Summoned Performapal Guitartle next and then fused them away for Ignister Prominence, the Blasting Dracoslayer before he ended.
Cooper started fast with Terraforming to add Chicken Game, and then the Normal Summon of Performapal Skullcrobat Joker to add Performapal Monkeyboard. He placed Performapal Monkeyboard in his Pendulum Zone and used it to add Performapal Lizardraw. He then activated Chicken Game before he used two copies of Emergency Teleport, getting Dr. Frankenderp as well as Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit. He used the effect of Dr. Frankenderp and added Level Eater to his hand, then paid 1000 Life Points to draw a card from Chicken Game. He played another Chicken Game on top of that one, then paid 1000 again to draw a second card. He activated Terraforming next to add the last copy of Chicken Game before he repeated the process for his third draw. He played Allure of Darkness next, drawing two cards and banishing Blackwing – Zephyors the Elite from his hand. He then Synchro Summoned Ancient Fairy Dragon using his Performapal Skullcrobat Joker and Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit. He used its effect to destroy Chicken Game and gain 1000 Life Points, but didn’t have another Field Spell in his Deck. He then activated the effect of Ancient Fairy Dragon to Special Summon Jet Synchron from his hand. He Synchroed the Tuner along with Ancient Fairy Dragon for PSY-Framelord Omega, then used the effect of Jet Synchron discarding Level Eater to Special Summon it. He then ate a level off of PSY-Framelord Omega to put it to 7, and Synchro Summoned Formula Synchron using both Level 1s to draw a card. He Synchroed with Dr. Frankenderp and the Formula Synchron next for T.G. Hyper Librarian! He used Level Eater to Special Summon itself eating another Level from PSY-Framelord Omega before he slammed down Instant Fusion for Elder Entity Norden. He used its effect to Special Summon Formula synchron, then used the Formula Synchron and Level Eater to Synchro Summon Tatsunoko. He ate another Level off of PSY-Framelord Omega to Special Summon Level Eater. He then Synchroed using Tatsunoko, Elder Entity Norden, and two Level Eaters for Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier! He used its effect to banish Jawhari’s Archfiend Eccentrick and Dinoster Power, the Mighty Dracoslayer. He Special Summoned both Level Eaters back in Attack Position, but when he tried to move to Battle Phase he realized that he could not attack because of Ancient Fairy Dragon! He was forced to end his turn.
Jawhari drew Solemn Strike for turn, and during his Standby Phase, Cooper used PSY-Framelord Omega to put Jet Synchron back in his Graveyard. He Set the Trap and Pendulum Summoned Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer in Attack Position before he ended.
Cooper skipped his draw because of Dr. Frankenderp, then moved to Battle Phase. He declared attacks with his PSY-Framelord Omega, T.G. Hyper Librarian, and Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier to destroy Jawhari’s Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer and leaving him at 2050 Life Points. He switched both Level Eaters to Defense Position before he ended.
Jawhari drew Draco Face-Off, and activated it. He put Vector Pendulum, the Dracoverlord and Luster Pendulum, the Dracoslayer into the ring, with Luster Pendulum, the Dracoslayer emerging victorious as it was Special Summoned. He then Pendulum Summoned Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer and Vector Pendulum, the Dracoverlord before he Synchro Summoned Ignister Prominence, the Blasting Dracoslayer via Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer and Luster Pendulum, the Dracoslayer. Cooper got to draw thanks to T.G. Hyper Librarian, but Jawhari used the effect of Ignister Prominence, the Blasting Dracoslayer to Special Summon Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer from his Deck. He then fused his Vector Pendulum, the Dracoverlord and Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer for Dinoster Power, the Mighty Dracoslayer before he ended his turn.
Cooper drew for turn and began looking through his Extra Deck. He moved to Battle Phase and attacked with his PSY-Framelord Omega and his Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier into Ignister Prominence, the Blasting Dracoslayer just so he could clear some space. He Normal Summoned Uni-Zombie, then used its effect to discard Shaddoll Dragon. The Dragon triggered and destroyed Jawhari’s Set Solemn Strike, then Cooper returned PSY-Framelord Omega to his Extra Deck along with Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier. He then discarded a card to Special Summon Jet Synchron, then Synchroed it away with a Level Eater for Formula Synchron to draw two cards thanks to T.G. Hyper Librarian. He ate a Level off of T.G. Hyper Librarian to Special Summon Level Eater, then he used Uni-Zombie to send Mezuki to his Graveyard. He Synchroed away a Level Eater, T.G. Hyper Librarian, and Uni-Zombie to Special Summon Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier again! He used its effect to banish Jawhari’s Performapal Guitartle and Draco Face-Off. He Special Summoned Blackwing – Zephyors the Elite next by returning Performapal Monkeyboard to his hand, then he ate a Level off of Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier to Special Summon Level Eater. He then Synchroed away Formula synchron at Level 3 and two Level Eaters for Accel Synchron before he played two copies of Upstart Goblin to draw two cards. He placed Performapal Monkeyboard and Performapal Lizardraw in his Pendulum Zones, then Pendulum Summoned a single Performage Trick Clown from his hand. He used the effect of Performapal Lizardraw to draw another card, then used Level Eater to eat a Level from Accel Synchron and Special Summon itself. He overlayed his Blackwing – Zephyors the Elite, Accel Synchron, and Performage Trick Clown to Special Summon Evilswarm Ouroboros! He used its effect to return Ignister Prominence, the Blasting Dracoslayer to the Extra Deck then used Level Eater again to reduce Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier and Special Summon the Level Eater. He activated One for One and discarded Armageddon Knight to Special Summon Glow-Up Bulb, then Synchro Summoned PSY-Framelord Omega using Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier and Glow-Up Bulb. He Set a card to his back row and ended his turn.
Jawhari desperately needed a high Pendulum Scale and drew Rescue Hamster! He placed it in his Pendulum Zone and then Pendulum Summoned two copies of Vector Pendulum, the Dracoverlord, Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer, and Luster Pendulum, the Dracoslayer. He Synchro Summoned Ignister Prominence, the Blasting Dracoslayer using Luster Pendulum, the Dracoslayer and Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer, and then overlayed Vector Pendulum, the Dracoverlord and Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer for Majester Paladin, the Ascending Dracoslayer. He used the effect of Majester to Special Summon Luster Pendulum, the Dracoslayer from his Extra Deck, and then used Dinoster Power, the Mighty Dracoslayer to Special Summon the detached Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer. He Synchro Summoned another Ignister Prominence, the Blasting Dracoslayer next using the Luster Pendulum, the Dracoslayer and Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer, then used its effect to destroy his own Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer and spin away the PSY-Framelord Omega before he used Rescue Hamster to add back two copies of Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer from his Extra Deck. He Normal Summoned one and moved to Battle Phase, with enough damage to attack through Cooper’s defenses and end the Duel!
Cooper chose to go first in the second Duel.Duel Two:
Cooper started off with Brilliant Fusion! He sent Gem-Knight Garnet along with Performage Trick Clown to the Graveyard to Special Summon Gem-Knight Seraphinite, which triggered Performage Trick Clown to Special Summon itself at the cost of 1000 Life Points. Cooper used the additional Normal Summon from Gem-Knight Seraphinite to Normal Summon Performapal Skullcrobat Joker and add Performapal Monkeyboard. He used Performapal Monkeyboard and then added Performapal Lizardraw, then activated Upstart Goblin to draw a card. He then Normal Summoned Jet Synchron and Synchro Summoned T.G. Hyper Librarian using the Tuner along with Performapal Skullcrobat Joker. He placed Performapal Lizardraw in his Pendulum Zone, and then Pendulum Summoned two copies of Armageddon Knight from his hand to the Field! Both triggered and let Cooper send Level Eater and Plaguespreader Zombie to the Graveyard. He had Performapal Lizardraw destroy itself so he could draw a card, then overlayed all of his Level 4s for Evilswarm Ouroboros! He used its effect and randomly sent Guiding Ardiadne from Jawhari’s hand to the Graveyard. He discarded Mezuki to Special Summon Jet Synchron, then ate a Level off of Gem-Knight Seraphinite to Special Summon Level Eater. He Synchro Summoned Formula Synchron using both Level 1s, and drew two cards thanks to T.G. Hyper Librarian. He ate a level off of T.G. Hyper Librarian to Special Summon Level Eater again, then Synchro Summoned Tatsunoko using the Level Eater and Formula Synchron. He Synchro Summoned Ancient Fairy Dragon next using Tatsunoko and Gem-Knight Seraphinite, drawing another card from T.G. Hyper Librarian. He activated Emergency Teleport to Special Summon Dr. Frankenderp from his hand. He used Ancient Fairy Dragon to Special Summon Level Eater, then banished Mezuki to Special Summon Plaguespreader Zombie. He Synchro Summoned Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier using Ancient Fairy Dragon, Plaguespreader Zombie, and Level Eater! He banished Jawhari’s in hand Solemn Warning and then pressed forward with Upstart Goblin. Time was called, and it looked like Cooper’s combo Deck was taking a bit too long to operate and thus he was punished for his mistake as well as Jawhari’s luck in the first Duel. He activated Emergency Teleport next and Special Summoned Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit, before he Synchro Summoned Ancient Fairy Dragon using it and T.G. Hyper Librarian. He activated the effect of Ancient Fairy Dragon to destroy Chicken Game and add another copy to his hand. He ate a Level from Ancient Fairy Dragon to Special Summon Level Eater, then used Plageuspreader Zombie’s effect to stack a card in order to Special Summon itself. He Synchro Summoned another PSY-Framelord Omega using Plaguespreader Zombie and Ancient Fairy Dragon, then ended his turn.
Jawhari had a hand of Mystical Space Typhoon, Archfiend Eccentrick, before he drew Vector Pendulum, the Dracoverlord. He Normal Summoned Vector Pendulum, the Dracoverlord and Cooper responded with the effect of PSY-Framelord Omega to get rid of Jawhari’s in hand Mystical Space Typhoon. Realizing that it would just be game next turn, Jawhari conceded.
A stellar match ends in a draw, as Hani Jawhari manages to squeak out a win in the first Duel while Paul Cooper successfully goes off in the second. Both Duelists are now 1-0-1 in the tournament with this draw.
