Round 6 Feature Match: Andres Torres versus Charles Denton
Performapal Pendulum has seen by far the most success thus far looking back, and even though the Forbidden & Limited List goes into effect on Monday, that hasn’t stopped Duelists from trying to use it to claim the title this weekend. Both Andres Torres and Charles Denton are undefeated with Performapal variants, and while Denton has tech such as Magic Drain, Torres has his own sweet picks such as Magical Abductor. Who will be the true Master of Pendulum take victory at Table 1?
Torres won the roll and chose to go first.
Duel One:
Torres started with a hand of Performapal Monkeyboard, Performapal Guitartle, Draco Face-Off, Guiding Ardiadne, and Luster Pendulum, the Dracoslayer. He activated Draco Face-Off and Special Summoned Vector Pendulum, the Dracoverlord while Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer was put into his Extra Deck. He then placed Performapal Guitartle in his Pendulum Zone before Performapal Monkeyboard so he got to draw a Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer off of the Performapal Guitartle. He then used the effect of Performapal Monkeyboard to add Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer to his hand. He Normal Summoned Luster Pendulum, the Dracoslayer put it along with Vector Pendulum, the Dracoverlord into the Extra Deck to Synchro Summon Ignister Prominence, the Blasting Dracoslayer . He then announced a Pendulum Summon for four, as Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer and Guiding Ardiadne hit the Field from his hand while Luster Pendulum, the Dracoslayer and Vector Pendulum, the Dracoverlord came from his Extra Deck. He triggered Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer to destroy his Performapal Monkeyboard and Guiding Ardiadne, letting him add Performapal Lizardraw and Performapal Skullcrobat Joker. Guiding Ardiadne then triggered revealing two copies of Solemn Strike and a Solemn Warning, which prompted Torres to give him Solemn Warning. Torres pressed on with the effect of Ignister Prominence, the Blasting Dracoslayer which let him Special Summon Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer from his Deck, which he then overlayed with Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer for Majester Paladin, the Ascending Dracoslayer. He used the effect of Majester Paladin, the Ascending Dracoslayer to Special Summon Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer from his Extra Deck, the fused away Luster Pendulum, the Dracoslayer and Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer for Dinoster Power, the Mighty Dracoslayer. He used the effect of Dinoster Power, the Mighty Dracoslayer to Special Summon Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer from his Graveyard, then overlayed it with Vector Pendulum, the Dracoverlord for TRaptrix Rafflesia. He activated Performapal Lizardraw and destroyed it to draw Wavering Eyes, then Set it along with Solemn Warning before he overlayed for Number 38: Hope Harbinger Dragon Titanic Galaxy using his Ignister Prominence, the Blasting Dracoslayer and Dinoster Power, the Mighty Dracoslayer. During the End Phase, he added Archfiend Eccentrick to his hand thanks to Majester Paladin, the Ascending Dracoslayer.
Denton started by placing both Performapal Silver Claw and Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer in his Pendulum Zones, then Normal Summoned Performapal Skullcrobat Joker which he used to add Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer. He then Pendulum Summoned the single Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer and tried to activate its effect targeting both of his Pendulum Scales, but Torres had Wavering Eyes to completely blow Denton out! Denton took 500, had his Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer banished, and Torres got to add Magical Abductor to his hand. Denton Set two and ended his turn.
Torres drew Vector Pendulum, the Dracoverlord for turn and then activated the effect of Majester Paladin, the Ascending Dracoslayer but Denton Flipped Solemn Strike to take it down. Torres then Normal Summoned Performapal Skullcrobat Joker to add Performapal Silver Claw to his hand, then placed Magical Abductor in his Pendulum Zone. He tried to play Archfiend Eccentrick next but Denton stopped it with Magic Drain. However, trying to fight back was useless at this point as Torres had another high Pendulum Scale which prompted Denton to concede.
An impressive turn one leads Torres to an easy victory. Can Denton manage to win the back two?
Denton chose to go first.
Duel Two:
Denton started off with Performapal Monkeyboard to add Performapal Skullcrobat Joker, which he then Normal Summoned to add Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer to his hand. He placed Performapal Lizardraw in his Pendulum Zone, which prompted Torres to activate Maxx “C”. Denton pressed on and announced a Pendulum Summon for Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer and Guiding Ardiadne. Torres got to draw a card, but Denton used the effect of Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer to destroy his Guiding Ardiadne along with Performapal Monkeyboard so he could add Performapal Guitartle and Performapal Lizardraw to his hand. However, he missed Guiding Ardiadne. He placed Performapal Guitartle in his Pendulum Zone so he could destroy Performapal Lizardraw to draw another card, then Set three before he ended his turn.
Torres opened with a hand of Raigeki, Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer, Performapal Monkeyboard, Performapal Silver Claw, and Maxx “C” before he drew another Performapal Silver Claw. Torres tried to start with Performapal Monkeyboard, but Denton used Mystical Space Typhoon to halt the progression. Torres Normal Summoned Performapal Silver Claw and declared an attack but lost out to Denton’s Set Solemn Strike. Torres activated Raigeki next to clear the Field and passed the turn.
Denton began with Performapal Lizardraw, letting him draw a card with Performapal Guitartle before he destroyed the Performapal Lizardraw to draw another. He then activated Draco Face-Off which Torres responded to with Maxx “C”. Denton Special Summoned Luster Pendulum, the Dracoslayer off of the Draco Face-Off and Vector Pendulum, the Dracoverlord went to his Extra Deck. Torres drew Treacherous Trap Hole from the Special Summon thanks to Maxx “C”. Denton placed Vector Pendulum, the Dracoverlord into his Pendulum Scale and then ‘Pendulum Summoned for Performapal Skullcrobat Joker, Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer, Guiding Ardiadne, and Vector Pendulum, the Dracoverlord. Torres drew Electric Virus off of Maxx “C”. Denton did some math, then chose to activate Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer to destroy his own Performapal Guitartle to add Performapal Silver Claw to his hand. He placed it on his Pendulum Scale then moved to Battle Phase, which was enough for Torres.
Denton sets up a two turn win to defeat Torres in the second Duel. Who will come out on top and move on undefeated?
Torres chose to go first.
Duel Three:
Torres started with Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer, Draco Face-Off, Guiding Ardiadne, and two copies of Wavering Eyes. He first activated Draco Face-Off, pitting Luster Pendulum, the Dracoslayer and Vector Pendulum, the Dracoverlord against each other. Vector Pendulum, the Dracoverlord emerged victorious and was put into his Pendulum Scale while Luster Pendulum, the Dracoslayer hit the Extra Deck. Torres placed Guiding Ardiadne in his Pendulum Zone next, then activated Wavering Eyes to deal 500 and add Performapal Monkeyboard to his hand by destroying both of his Pendulums. The Guiding Ardiadne triggered which revealed two copies of Solemn Strike and a single Solemn Warning, prompting Denton to give him Solemn Strike. He activated Performapal Monkeyboard next and added Performapal Silver Claw to his hand, placing it alongside Performapal Monkeyboard. He then Pendulum Summoned Luster Pendulum, the Dracoslayer, Vector Pendulum, the Dracoverlord, and Guiding Ardiadne from his Extra Deck along with Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer from his hand. The Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer triggered to destroy both of his Pendulum Scales, letting him search Performapal Lizardraw and Performapal Guitartle. He Synchro Summoned Ignister Prominence, the Blasting Dracoslayer next using Luster Pendulum, the Dracoslayer and Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer, then used its effect to Special Summon Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer. He placed Performapal Guitartle in his Pendulum Zone and then Performapal Lizardraw. The Performapal Guitartle triggered which let him draw Archfiend Eccentrick, then he destroyed Performapal Lizardraw to draw Draco Face-Off. He then used the effect of Ignister Prominence, the Blasting Dracoslayer to destroy his own Guiding Ardiadne and spin away the Performapal Guitartle. The Guiding Ardiadne triggered, and Denton gave Torres a Solemn Strike. Torres then overlayed Performapal Skullcrobat Joker and Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer for Majester Paladin, the Ascending Dracoslayer, then used its effect to Special Summon Luster Pendulum, the Dracoslayer from his Extra Deck. He then Fusion Summoned Dinoster Power, the Mighty Dracoslayer using Vector Pendulum, the Dracoverlord and Luster Pendulum, the Dracoslayer. He used the effect of Luster Pendulum, the Dracoslayer to Special Summon Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer from his Graveyard, then overlayed both of his Level 8s for Number 38: Hope Harbinger Dragon Titanic Galaxy . He Set four cards to his back row and during the End Phase added Performapal Guitartle to his hand thanks to Majester Paladin, the Ascending Dracoslayer.
Denton began his turn with Draco Face-Off, but Torres negated it with Number 38: Hope Harbinger Dragon Titanic Galaxy and took it as an Xyz Material. Denton pressed on and placed Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer in his Pendulum Zone along with Performapal Silver Claw, then announced a Pendulum Summon for Guiding Ardiadne. He declared an attack with Guiding Ardiadne on Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer, but Torres used the other effect of Number 38: Hope Harbinger Dragon Titanic Galaxy to switch the battle so he could deal more damage. Denton revealed two copies of Solemn Strike and a Magic Drain as Guiding Ardiadne triggered, prompting Torres to give him the Magic Drain. He Set a Monster along with two to his back row, but when he tried to end Torres had Draco Face-Off for Vector Pendulum, the Dracoverlord and Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer. Vector Pendulum, the Dracoverlord won and was placed in his Pendulum Zone, and still during the End Phase Torres used Wavering Eyes! That was enough for Denton and he conceded!
Showcasing how well he knows the Deck, Andres Torres moves on undefeated with Performapals earning a spotless 6-0 record!
