Texas’s Cameran Paul and Oklahoma’s Kyle Turnbull are both currently 4-0-1 in the tournament. Paul is using the lone PSY-Frame Deck at the top tables, while Paul is using a Burning Abyss Deck featuring Speedroids. Who will advance with a 5-0-1 record? We’re about to find out. It’s time to Duel!

 

Duel One

 

Paul opened up with Pot of Duality, Cardcar D, Psychic Path, Mystical Space Typhoon, and Telekinetic Power Well.

 

 

He activated Pot of Duality, revealing PSY-Frame Overload, PSY-Frame Driver, and PSY-Framegear Delta from the top of his Deck, and added Delta to his hand while shuffling the other 2 cards back into his Deck. He Set Mystical Space Typhoon and then Summoned Cardcar D, but lost out on its effect to Turnbull’s Effect Veiler. Paul sent his Cardcar D to the Graveyard to get it off of the field anyway, without drawing any cards.

 

Turnbull activated Foolish Burial, and Paul negated it with the effect of his Delta, allowing him to Special Summon Driver from his Deck. Turnbull Set a card to each zone and then Driver and Delta were banished from the field in the End Phase.

 

Paul drew Quaking Mirror Force. He activated Psychic Path and gave up 800 Life Points to return PSY-Frame Driver and PSY-Framegear Delta to his hand. He Set Quaking Mirror Force and passed.

 

Turnbull Summoned Fiendish Rhino Warrior and Flip Summoned his other monster. He attacked, but his monsters were put face-down by Quaking Mirror Force.

 

Paul drew another PSY-Frame Driver.

 

Turnbull Summoned Tour Guide From the Underworld and activated its effect to Special Summon Farfa, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss from his Deck. Next, he combined Farfa with Tour Guide to Xyz Summon The Phantom Knights of Break Sword. He activated the effect of Break Sword to destroy his own face-down Rhino along with Paul’s face-down Mystical Space Typhoon, and Paul Chained Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy Turnbull’s face-down Solemn Strike. Rhino was sent to the Graveyard, and Turnbull used its effect to send Scarm, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss from his Deck to his Graveyard. Turnbull added Cir, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss from his Deck to his hand in his End Phase with Scarm’s effect.

 

Paul drew Doomcaliber Knight next turn. He Summoned Doomcaliber Knight and then passed his turn.

 

Turnbull attacked and destroyed Doomcaliber Knight with Break Sword and passed his turn.

 

Paul drew Pot of Duality and activated it to add PSY-Frame Overload to his hand and shuffle the other 2 revealed cards back into his Deck. He Set PSY-Frame Overload along with Telekinetic Power Well and passed his turn.

 

Turnbull drew a card and then Paul activated his Overload and banished Driver from his hand to banish Break Sword from the field. When Calcab was sent to the Graveyard as a Material, Power Well was returned to Paul’s hand. He Summoned Scarm and then it was destroyed by its own effect since Turnbull had a face-down monster.

 

Paul drew a card and passed.

 

Turnbull Summoned Farfa. It was destroyed, and he was able to use its effect to banish his face-down monster and return it to the field in his End Phase.

 

Paul drew a card and Set it to his back row.

 

Turnbull activated Twin Twisters and discarded Cir to destroy 2 Overloads. Next, he used Cir’s effect to Special Summon Calcab and return another Overload to Paul’s hand when Calcab self-destructed. Paul Chained the effect of his Overload and banished Driver from his hand to banish Turnbull’s face-down monster. Next, Turnbull Special Summoned Rubic and Normal Summoned Graff. He combined his monsters to Xyz Summon Dante, and detached Graff to activate Dante’s effect and send 3 cards from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard. He Special Summoned Barbar from his Deck and then attacked directly with Dante and Barbar to drop Paul down to 900 Life Points. In Main Phase 2, Turnbull upgraded his Dante into Downerd Magician, causing the Barbar to destroy itself. Turnbull used Barbar’s effect to banish 3 Burning Abyss cards from his Graveyard and deal 900 points of damage to Paul, finishing him off!

Duel Two

 

Paul opened up Duel 2 with Pot of Duality, Quaking Mirror Force, PSY-Frame Overload, PSY-Framegear Beta, and Flying “C”. He activated Pot of Duality, revealing Pot of Duality, Psychic Path, and Psychic Feel Zone from the top of his Deck, and added the Pot of Duality to his hand while shuffling the other 2 revealed cards back into his Deck. He Set Quaking Mirror Force and PSY-Frame Overload before passing.

 

Turnbull Special Summoned Speedroid Terrortop, and Paul Special Summoned Flying “C” to Turnbull’s field. Paul searched his Deck for Speedroid Tri-Eyed Dice with the effect of Terrortop and then Normal Summoned it to the field. He Tuned Tri-Eyed Dice with Flying “C” to Synchro Summon Virgil, Rock Star of the Burning Abyss, and Paul flipped Overload and banished Beta from his hand to banish Virgil face-down. Terrortop attacked directly, and then Turnbull passed.

 

 

Paul activated another Pot of Duality next turn, and used its effect to add his third Pot of Duality to his hand.

 

Turnbull Summoned Scarm and it destroyed itself with its effect. Next, he attacked directly with Terrortop. He added Tour Guide From the Underworld from his Deck to his hand with Scarm’s effect in his End Phase.

 

Paul drew Psy-Framegear Alpha and then activated Pot of Duality, revealing PSY-Frame Overload and 2 copies of Cardcar D from the top of his Deck. He added the Cardcar D to his hand and Summoned it. He sent it to the Graveyard to draw another Cardcar D and a PSY-Frame Circuit from his Deck.

 

Turnbull Summoned Tour Guide From the Underworld and activated its effect. Paul Special Summoned Psy-Framegear Alpha from his hand along with a Driver from his Deck, and added Psy-Framegear Gamma from his Deck to his hand. Turnbull Special Summoned Fiendish Rhino Warrior from his Deck and combined Terrortop with Fiendish Rhino Warrior to Summon Dante. Paul banished his Driver from his field to try to banish Dante with Overload; but Paul Chained Twin Twisters and discarded Scarm from his hand to destroy Overload and Quaking Mirror Force. Next, Turnbull detached Fiendish Rhino Warrior from Dante to send Solemn Warning, Cir, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss, and Barbar, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard. He banished a Scarm from his Graveyard to deal 300 points of damage with Barbar’s effect, and used Rhino’s effect to send Libic, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss from his Deck to his Graveyard. He activated Libic’s effect to Special Summon Alich, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss from his hand with its effect negated, and combined Alich with Tour Guide to Xyz Summon Dante. He activated Dante’s effect to send Graff, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss, Effect Veiler, and Fiendish Rhino Warrior from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard, and used Graff’s effect to Special Summon Farfa, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss from his Deck. Next, he attacked Alpha with Farfa to destroy it, and attacked directly with Dante; but Paul Special Summoned Beta from his hand along with a Driver from his Deck to destroy Dante and end the Battle Phase with Beta’s effect! Turnbull added Cir from his Graveyard to his hand with Dante’s effect. Next, he discarded Cir to upgrade Dante into Beatrice, Lady of the Eternal, causing Farfa to destroy itself, and he used Cir’s effect to Special Summon Dante from his Graveyard. Then, he discarded Rubic from his hand to upgrade his other Dante into Beatrice. In his End Phase, Turnbull added Alich, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss from his Deck to his hand with Scarm’s effect.

 

 

Paul activated PSY-Frame Circuit and then Normal Summoned Cardcar D; but Turnbull detached Dante as an Xyz Material from Beatrice to activate her effect and send Farfa from his Deck to his Graveyard. He used Farfa’s effect to banish Cardcar D and used Dante’s effect to add Barbar from his Graveyard to his hand. Next, Paul activated Psychic Feel Zone and banished PSY-Frame Driver and PSY-Framegear Beta from his Graveyard to Special Summon PSY-Framelord Zeta in Defense Position. Then, he banished PSY-Frame Overload from his Graveyard to add PSY-Framegear Beta to his hand.

 

Turnbull switched a Beatrice into Attack Position and then detached Dante from his other Beatrice to activate her effect and send Farfa from his Deck to his Graveyard. He tried to use Farfa’s effect to banish Zeta, but Paul Chained Zeta’s effect to banish it along with Beatrice. Turnbull added Cir to his hand with Dante’s effect. He Summoned Cir, which self-destructed because Beatrice was on the field, and then Turnbull Special Summoned Dante from his Graveyard with its effect. Next, he discarded Barbar from his hand to upgrade Dante into Beatrice, and banished 3 Burning Abyss monsters from his Graveyard with Barbar’s effect to drop Paul down to 4400 Life Points. Turnbull switched his other Beatrice into Attack Position and then attacked Cardcar D with Beatrice, destroying it and dropping Paul down to 2700 Life Points. Turnbull attacked directly with his other Beatrice next, and Paul Special Summoned Beta from his hand! He Special Summoned a Driver from his Deck along with it, and combined them by using his Circuit to Synchro Summon PSY-Framelord Zeta. When Beatrice was destroyed, Turnbull Special Summoned Dante, Pilgrim of the Burning Abyss from his Extra Deck.

 

Paul drew a card, and Zeta and Beatrice returned to the field. Paul used Zeta’s effect to banish the Zeta and a Beatrice, and Turnbull discarded Barbar with Dante’s effect to draw a card. He used Barbar’s effect to banish 3 more Burning Abyss cards from his Graveyard and drop Paul down to 1800 Life Points.

 

Turnbull drew a card and then switched Beatrice into Defense Position. He Summoned Speedroid Terrortop from his hand and used its effect to add Speedroid Taketomborg from his Deck. Next, he activated Dante’s effect and discarded Alich from his hand to draw a card. He used Alich’s effect to negate the effect of Zeta, and then combined Terrortop with Taketomborg to Xyz Summon Number 47: Nightmare Shark! He detached an Xyz Material from Nightmare Shark to allow it to attack directly, and then a direct attack from Nightmare Shark finished Paul off!
