Christopher LeBlanc is no stranger to the main stage. A two-time YCS winner, LeBlanc is looking to get his third ring here this weekend. He is piloting an Xyz Monarch variant utilizing Overdrive Teleporter as a way to enable big combos involving Beatrice, Lady of the Eternal. His opponent is trying to abuse Beatrice, Lady of the Eternal as well, but in a very different way. Jesse Flores is one of many Duelists who piloting Burning Abyss, but he has a bunch of sweet tech like Sky Scourge Norleras, Monster Reincarnation, and even Speed Recovery to help his Speedroid engine. Both Duelists are 6-1 with very exciting Decks, but who will glide into Day 2 able to give a loss?

LeBlanc won and chose to go first.

Duel One:

LeBlanc opened with a hand of Super Quantum Red Layer, Erebus the Underworld Monarch, Ehther the Heavenly Monarch, and two copies of Overdrive Teleporter. He Special Summoned Super Quantum Red Layer and then tributed it away for Overdrive Teleporter which triggered its effect, but Flors had Maxx “C” to make sure things didn’t get too bad. LeBlanc Special Summoned Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit and Super Quantum Blue Layer to the Field and ended his turn.

Flores drew and Special Summoned Speedroid Terrortop and activated its effect, which LeBlanc chose to respond to with Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit to destroy it. Flores pressed on with the Special Summon of Rubic, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss followed up by the Normal Summon of Fiendish Rhino Warrior. He sent both to the Graveyard to Synchro Summon Virgil, Rock Star of the Burning Abyss, then the Fiendish Rhino Warrior triggered and sent Graff, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss with in turn triggered and Special Summoned Cir, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss. Flores Special Summoned Farfa, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss from his hand next and overlayed it with Cir, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss for Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss. He milled Tour Guide from the Underworld, The Beginning of the End, and Farfa, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss by detaching Cir, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss but forgot to trigger the Cir, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss. He discarded Libic, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss to Special Summon Beatrice, Lady of the Eternal, then declared an attack over Overdrive Teleporter before he ended the turn.

LeBlanc drew Edea the Heavenly Squire for turn and Normal Summoned it using it to Special Summon Eidos the Underworld Squire. In response to the effect of Edea the Heavenly Squire, Flores detached Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss to send Alich, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss to the Graveyard. In a new Chain, the Eidos the Underworld Squire triggered as Chain Link 1 and the Alich, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss triggered as Chain Link 2 to negate it. At Chain Link 3, Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss activated to add back Cir, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss. LeBlanc surveyed the Field a bit and released he couldn’t win, so he conceded.

Maxx “C” allows Flores to stop LeBlanc’s combo with Overdrive Teleporter in the first Duel, giving him an opening to win the game. Can LeBlanc manage to fight through two more Duels?

LeBlanc chose to go first.

Duel Two:

LeBlanc started with a hand of Super Quantum Red Layer, The Prime Monarch, Kuraz, the Light Monarch, and two copies of Return of the Monarchs. He Special Summoned Super Quantum Red Layer and then activated Return of the Monarchs. He Set the second The Prime Monarch, then tributed away the Super Quantum Red Layer for Kuraz, the Light Monarch. He targeted both of his back row, and ordered the Chain links so he could still search Ehther the Heavenly Monarch before destroying Return of the Monarchs and drawing Emergency Teleport as well as Gem-Knight Garnet. He activated the second copy of Return of the Monarchs and Set Emergency Teleport before he ended his turn.

Flores drew and Normal Summoned Tour Guide from the Underworld, using it to Special Summon Graff, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss. He overlayed both for Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss and then detached Graff, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss to send Scarm, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss, Fog King, and Alich, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss. He triggered the effect of Graff, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss, and Special Summoned Cir, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss from his Deck. He Special Summoned Farfa, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss next, overlaying it with the Cir, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss for a second copy of Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss. He detached the Farfa, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss to send Scarm, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss, Alich, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss, and Speed Recovery. He then stacked Beatrice, Lady of the Eternal on top of Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss and tried to move to Battle Phase, but LeBlanc flipped his Set Emergency Teleport to try to Set up a powerful turn with Ehther the Heavenly Monarch. Flores responded with Maxx “C”, stifling LeBlanc pretty badly, as LeBlanc Special Summoned Super Quantum Blue Layer. He then used the effect of Ehther the Heavenly Monarch, banishing Return of the Monarchs, to tribute away his Kuraz, the Light Monarch and Super Quantum Blue Layer, and finally put the Ehther the Heavenly Monarch into play. The Ehther the Heavenly Monarch then triggered and sent Pantheism of the Monarchs and The Prime Monarch to the Graveyard to Special Summon another Ehther the Heavenly Monarch, while the Return of the Monarchs triggered allowing to add Erebus the Underworld Monarch. Flores moved to Battle Phase and declared an attack with Beatrice, Lady of the Eternal into Ehther the Heavenly Monarch, destroying it and triggering both Beatrice, Lady of the Eternal and Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss. Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss added back Farfa, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss, while Beatrice, Lady of the Eternal Special Summoned Dante, Pilgrim of the Burning Abyss. He then declared an attack with Dante, Pilgrim of the Burning Abyss and crashed it into Ehther the Heavenly Monarch, triggering its effect to get rid of LeBlanc’s in hand Gem-Knight Garnet at random. In Main Phase 2, Flores used Foolish Burial to send Sky Scourge Norleras to the Graveyard which he then immediately added back via Monster Reincarnation discarding Farfa, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss! He Special Summoned the mighty Sky Scourge Norleras next, banishing a few Malebranches along with Beatrice, Lady of the Eternal. He activated its effect by paying 1000 Life Points. Everything went to the Graveyard and Cir, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss as well as Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss triggered. Cir, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss Special Summoned the Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss, while Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss added back the Cir, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss. He then ditched the Farfa, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss that he drew off of Sky Scourge Norleras so he could Special Summon Beatrice, Lady of the Eternal. During the End Phase he added Barbar, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss with Scarm, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss. LeBlanc also Special Summoned The Prime Monarch.

LeBlanc drew The Monarchs Stormforth for turn and then Special Summoned The Prime Monarch. He overlayed both of the traps for Constellar Pleiades, but in response to the Summon Flores activated Beatrice, Lady of the Eternal to send Speedroid Terrortop to the Graveyard by detaching Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss. Flores forgot to use his Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss, then LeBlanc declared a direct attack with Constellar Pleiades.

Flores drew and began by banishing Speed Recovery to add back Speedroid Terrortop. He Special Summoned the Speedroid Terrortop, which then triggered to add Speedroid Taketomborg to his hand. Flores Special Summoned the Speedroid Taketomborg and then overlayed the Speedroids for Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss. He then discarded Cir, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss to Special Summon Beatrice, Lady of the Eternal on top of the Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss, triggering the Cir, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss to Special Summon another Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss. He discarded Barbar, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss next to Special Summon a second Beatrice, Lady of the Eternal on top of the other Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss, then triggered the Barbar, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss banishing three Malebranches to deal 900 Life Points. Flores tried to attack over Constellar Pleiades, but LeBlanc responded by bouncing the other Beatrice, Lady of the Eternal. The Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss triggered to add Cir, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss, and then the Beatrice, Lady of the Eternal attacked into the Constellar Pleiades to destroy itself. This triggered the Beatrice, Lady of the Eternal to Special Summon Dante, Pilgrim of the Burning Abyss, as well as trigger Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss to add back Farfa, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss. Flores made an attack with Dante, Pilgrim of the Burning Abyss over Super Quantum Blue Layer which triggered to shuffle back two copies of Super Quantum Red Layer.

LeBlanc drew Tenacity of the Monarchs and ended, but during his End Phase Flores activated Dante, Pilgrim of the Burning Abyss to discard Cir, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss and draw a card. the Cir, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss Special Summoned Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss.

Flores drew and ditched Calcab, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss to Special Summon Beatrice, Lady of the Eternal. He then Normal Summoned Fiendish Rhino Warrior. He moved to Battle Phase and declared attacks with both Beatrice, Lady of the Eternal and Dante, Pilgrim of the Burning Abyss, but when he tried to attack with Fiendish Rhino Warrior, LeBlanc Special Summoned The Prime Monarch. Flores used Dante, Pilgrim of the Burning Abyss to ditch Farfa, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss to the Graveyard to banish the The Prime Monarch, allowing Fiendish Rhino Warrior to get in and leave LeBlanc with 400 Life Points.

LeBlanc drew Upstart Goblin, but before he could do anything Flores activated Beatrice, Lady of the Eternal to send Barbar, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss to the Graveyard and finish the Duel!

After two grueling games, Jesse Flores emerges victorious with his Burning Abyss Deck and moves on with a 7-1 record!
