Saturday’s Dragon Duel Feature: David Flores versus Tyler Hanson

12-year-old David Flores from Houston, Texas is competing this weekend in his first tournament ever, and currently holds a 2-1 record in the Dragon Duels. 12-year-old Tyler Hanson from Benbrook, Texas has competed in Dragon Duel tournaments before, and as a result of his prior Dueling experiences, has managed to maintain a perfect 3-0 record. Now, David Flores and Tyler Hanson are Dueling against one another at Table 1, in a Match that decides who will become the winner of Saturday’s Dragon Duel. It’s time to Duel!

 

Duel One

 

Hanson won the die roll and chose to go first.

 

Tyler Hanson

 

He Summoned Hardened Armed Dragon and then Set 2 cards to his back row.

 

Flores opened up with Call of the Haunted, Fiend’s Sanctuary, Freed the Matchless General, Battle Fader, Wind-Up Dog, and Compulsory Evacuation Device. He Set Compulsory Evacuation Device face-down and then ended his turn.

 

Hanson Summoned Twin-Barrel Dragon. He activated its effect by flipping a coin twice, but flipped a Tails, rendering him unable to destroy Flores’s face-down card. He attacked with Hardened Armed Dragon, and Flores Special Summoned Battle Fader from his hand in Attack Position to negate the attack and end the Battle Phase.

 

Flores drew Skill Drain. He activated Compulsory Evacuation Device to return Hardened Armed Dragon to Hanson’s hand; but Hanson Chained Interdimensional Matter Transporter to banish his own Hardened Armed Dragon until the End Phase. Next, Flores Tributed Battle Fader to Summon Freed the Matchless General and then ended his turn. Hardened Armed Dragon returned to the field in the End Phase.

 

Hanson activated Raigeki to destroy Freed and then Normal Summoned D.D. Assailant. He attacked directly with Hardened Armed Dragon, D.D. Assailant, and Twin-Barrel Dragon, dropping Flores down to 3100 Life Points.

Flores Set Call of the Haunted to his back row and then Summoned Wind-Up Dog. He activated its effect to give it an additional 600 ATK and then attacked Hardened Armed Dragon; but Hanson activated Offerings to the Doomed to destroy Wind-Up Dog.

 

Hanson skipped his Draw Phase due to the effect of Offerings to the Doomed and then attacked directly with D.D. Assailant. A follow-up attack from Twin-Barrel Dragon finished Aguilar off!

 

Tyler Hanson takes a quick victory in Duel 1!

 

Duel Two

 

Hanson started off Duel 2 by Summoning Breaker the Magical Warrior and adding a Spell Counter to it. He Set a card to his back row and then passed his turn.

 

Flores started off Duel 2 with Torrential Tribute, White Night Dragon, Muka Muka, Possessed Dark Soul, Chaos Necromancer, and Arcana Force XIV – Temperance.

He Set Torrential Tribute and then Summoned Muka Muka with 1800 ATK.

 

Hanson removed his Spell Counter from Breaker to destroy Flores’s face-down Torrential Tribute and then switched his Breaker into Defense Position. He Set a monster face-down and then Special Summoned Backup Warrior in Attack Position. He attacked Muka Muka to destroy it with Backup Warrior.

 

Flores drew Slate Warrior and then Summoned Possessed Dark Soul.

 

Hanson Flip Summoned Drillroid and then switched Breaker the Magical Warrior into Attack Position. He Normal Summoned Twin-Barrel Dragon next, and activated its effect. He flipped a coin twice and got Heads both times, allowing him to destroy Possessed Dark Soul. Direct attacks from Drillroid, Twin-Barrel Dragon, Breaker the Magical Warrior, and Backup Warrior dropped Flores down to 700 Life Points. Hanson Set a card to his back row before passing.

Flores drew Needle Ceiling. He Set it along with a Slate Warrior and then passed his turn.

 

Hanson Summoned Slate Warrior and then attacked Flores’s face-down monster with Drillroid. Flores flipped Needle Ceiling to try to destroy all of Hanson’s monsters; but Hanson flipped Solemn Judgment and gave up half of his Life Points to negate it! Drillroid destroyed Flores’s face-down Slate Warrior in battle, and then direct attacks from the rest of Hanson’s monsters wiped out the rest of Flores’s Life Points!

Some skilled play from Tyler Hanson allows him to finish today’s Dragon Duel tournament with a 4-0 record and become Saturday’s Dragon Duel Champion! Congratulations to Tyler Hanson!
